Student Opens Fire At California High School

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (UPI) –  A student armed with a shotgun opened fire in a Southern California high school Thursday, injuring at least one student, investigators said.

The incident prompted evacuation of Taft High School in Taft, KGET, Bakersfield, reported.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Department said one student had been airlifted to the Kern Medical Center and a second student was in custody.

KNBC, Los Angeles, reported a teacher suffered minor injuries.

Kern County Fire Capt. Eric Coughran said fire officials received a call at 9:01 a.m. PST about two injuries at Taft High School. A family member said the student treated at Kern is a junior, The Bakersfield Californian reported.
