Stolen Tombstones Show Up In Back Yard

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Aug. 17 (UPI) — Sheriff’s deputies in San Bernardino, Calif., found 24 stolen tombstones in a back yard while serving a search warrant in a narcotics investigation.

Authorities are now trying to identify the markers to they can be matched to the proper grave sites, The (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise reports.

The granite slabs, values at $48,000, were found in a back yard during the Tuesday investigation.

“While in the back yard, … deputies noticed several tombstones lying around,” investigators said in a written statement. “The tombstones had been stolen from the Montecito Cemetery in … Colton.”

Jail records show that John Orville Bleuer, 50 was arrested during the search on charges of methamphetamine sales and firearm possession and was being held on $50,000 bail.
