Six NATO Troops Killed In Afghan Bombings

KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 11 (UPI) — Six Western soldiers were killed in bombings in Afghanistan Thursday, five of them in a single attack, NATO said.

The nationalities of the victims were not released, although most foreign forces serving in southern Afghanistan where the bombings took place are either American or British.

Improvised explosive devices remain the biggest killer of Western troops in the country, and the Taliban and other insurgents have been using more powerful bombs in recent months.

U.S. forces make up more than two-thirds of the NATO force in Afghanistan, with almost 100,000 U.S. military personnel deployed, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Before Thursday’s deaths, 382 NATO troops had been killed so far this year, including 285 Americans.
