Senate Passes Indefinite Detention Bill With ‘Meaningless’ Changes

Senate Passes Indefinite Detention Bill With ‘Meaningless’ Changes

On Thursday evening, the Senate passed a $662 billion Defense bill, which included controversial provisions for the detention of American citizens on U.S. soil.

The bill passed 93-7, after an agreement was reached to add compromise language on the detention of U.S. citizens and terror suspects on U.S. soil. The compromise, proposed by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), states that “nothing in the bill changes current law relating to the detention of U.S. citizens and legal aliens,” but this measure is meaningless according to some opponents of the bill.

Two provisions that would have specifically blocked the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens on American soil and ensured “the military won’t be roaming our streets looking for suspected terrorists” were barred with the passage of the bill.

Many opponents of the legislation say language included in the bill that defines the homeland as a part of the battlefield in the ill-defined War on Terror is in direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 (18 U.S.C. Section 1385):

Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

On Nov. 30, Senator Rand Paul spoke on the Senate floor against the act, saying that even the discussion of ending due process of law for any citizen is a disturbing reaction to an endless war.

Former Reagan Administration official and columnist Paul Craig Roberts said the provisions are the beginnings of the repeal of the U.S. Constitution and that the country is on its way to becoming a police state.

“Only two Republicans in the Senate voted against this amendment, only two, so what do we know? We now have a Republican party that is a Gestapo party,” he said on RTAmerica.

Because the provisions also offer revisions of banned torture policies, the Administration of Barack Obama has threatened to veto the bill.

Well now so this goes to oblama in which the anti-american son of a bitch will indeed curse the USA with his signature.

    All be DAMMED

Yeah I’m waiting for all of you stupid blow asses to come out and tell me that I’m wrong.

Because the provisions also offer revisions of banned torture policies, the Administration of Barack Obama has threatened to veto the bill.

Am I the only dumby in the house that understands the provisions of the sentence above?
Prehaps if torture had been confirmed into the bill oblama would be more willing to accept it.
It is funny ( but not ) how his only bitch is that there is not a provision of tourture, instead he seems perfectly acceptable with an extermination or a imprisonment process.

When the hell was the last time that one of these piece of chit politicans gave a rats ass about you?.. And to think that some here suggest that you can “vote” and make a difference.
I would let you know that your “vote” doesn’t mean a damm thing but it may piss you off.
Go ahead and “vote”… See what good that does ya.

If you fool yourself into thinking that your little thought will make a difference, well I hate to tell you but…

Well most of you will not understand until it hits you in the face.
    And so be it.

I rant about this somewhat and thats is because I know the truth.

raggs; the timing is calculated to circumvent november 2012 to stop the vote! THE END OF LIBERTY, indeed!! This is absolute madness!!

Raggs, our fearless leaders must be afraid that something is about to happen. When they can find the time to ignore the economy and act as though America has no Constitution, it should be obvious that American ‘leadership’ is content to adopt the Napoleonic Code. You see, you don’t need a judge or a jury with the Napoleonic Code. It lets you assume that anyone who has been charged with an offense is already guilty. It STREAMLINES the process.
So, did they include funds to start building jails and prisons? It might be a dandy way to “put people to work,” but it also makes a mockery of representative government.
Now, if they could only find ways to get inside our heads. Obviously, many Americans are already guilty of something, so it would be “wise” to start arresting us now and avoid the rush. Only the elected can be ‘trusted.’ After a while, it would require those Einsteins to start arresting each other, as NO ONE can be trusted. Hitler would be so PROUD. We’ve come SO FAR in creating a perfect, long-cherished UTOPIA (for ‘some’ people, that is).

  • hoser

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they told us to fight terrorism over “THERE” so we wouldn’t have to “Over Here!” Did I miss something?

  • dan

is this the precursor to a declaration of war on the american people by the US government?

    • bp

dan; this monstrosity declares the USA a BATTLEGROUND! We are all terrorists now.

You got to realize that the REPUBLICAN PARTY does not want you FREEDOM LOVERS !!! SERIOUSLY !
YOU GOT TO REALIZE THIS !! It’s hard to fully grasp what I am telling you….

I realized this many years ago, coming to a point of acceptance of this fact was tough…..

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY does not want to run RON PAUL as their candidate. The Republican Party just wants the votes of the Ron Paul supporters …. do I have to repeat myself ?

SO THEY ARE “OK” TO TOLERATE “EXTREMIST” LIKE RON PAUL AND HIS SUPPORTERS !!! YOU ALL SHOULD BE THANKFUL OF THAT !!! ACCORDING TO THEM !!!

To think a war hero, and a former Republican candidate – John McCain – would sell out the Constitution and American people like this …… it’s just hard to believe. BUT IT IS HAPPENING !!!!!

The REASON is simple — John McCain is a honorable man ! He served his country ! He is passing such a law because of all you Pinko Commie lovers who protested against the Vietnam War. He’s doing this for all THE VETERANS who were spat upon, when they came home, from Vietnam.

You all take it from here – do I need to say more ? The American people elected the idiots to office back in the 1960′s – who limited the US military — and gave us our final defeat in Vietnam. So Screw You Voters ! THAT’s NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN !!! JOHN McCAIN AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY JUST MADE SURE OF THAT !!!

So frankly I have to admit – John McCain has done right by the military ….

Senate bill 1867 sound very disturbing to me. I am starting to have night sweats and nightmares. I am law abiding and patriot of our country. Non Pinko Commie Fascist. Just a common sense without any malice as we have seen from the Republicans and some Democrats Independents leaning to extreme right.

    • Denise

This bill passed the DEMOCRAT senate over the objections of 3 Republicans, 3 Democrats and 1 Independent. Obama greatly assisted in the writing of this bill. This is an extreme left wing bill as it gives the government/military complete power and ignores the constitution. The left aims to abolish the constitution with the help of our constitutional law “president”.

  • jopa

Raggs:Our current President with his high Christian values would never let a bill like this pass no matter how much the Republicans push for it.It is totally unconstitutional in the way it is written and Mr.Obama would never take a stand against or change our Constitution. He knows full well that our country is based on this document and that is what makes America as great as it is.The Costitution is his field of expertise.

P, it could be that the brainwashing that was part of voting for Obummer was free. It could be that people had to ‘buy shares’ in it. However it was done, you are about to learn that one thing Obummer is NOT is a functional, America-loving Constitution “protector.”
He’s already proven that what he wants comes first. That makes a strong case for the idea that Obummer doesn’t give a damn about you or me or anyone else in America. America’s kids and grandkids and great grandkids are in bondage.
Zbig’s hand is firmly in the middle of his back, and controls what Obummer says and does. Who controls Zbig is another matter.
Better that Obummer fails than the Constitution, p.
Have you already forgotten that his AG is a criminal who identifies with convicted felons? Obummer has no use for Congress, and he will bypass Congress any time it is ‘convenient’ for him. When you were brainwashed, your posterior was part of the price, or you wouldn’t be protecting him. Trust, transparency, ethics, character and leadership are alien words to Obummer. Sooner or later, that will be a way to describe you.
You not only chug the KruelAde, you sold your country, your family, your self-respect and any right to claim you are an American. You should have been born in Hitler’s Germany. If nothing else, you would have been seen as a ‘loyal’ member of the party when the parades went by, comrade.
When Obummer’s collective ‘stuff’ hits the fan, the entire nation will shake and its foundations will be tested. Who the hell are you to put THAT much faith in someone who HATES America?
America was destined to be a free republic. That utopia you’re chasing was always a dream. HOW can you NOT ‘get it’ unless you are willing to destroy America to “save” it?

jopa; BHO is a true-blue Muslim & Marxist. Do NOT insult my Jesus & call this man good or Chrisian. It is time to stand & be counted. Give me Liberty or give me DEATH! -Patrick Henry Or we will lose our country, which is their objective.

  • jopa

Last sentence should read Constitution.Sorry about that.

    • Joe H.

      jopa
The constitution is his area of expretise”. Expertise??? Try FIELD OF STUDY!! he has violated the constitution numerous times!! No “expert” in that field would do that, unless he wanted to see how far the people wuld stand for it!! If we don’t do anything we lose rights, if we do protest, he declares martial law and arrests, jails, or kills us. We lose either way!!

  • Denise

Remember that Obama spent our tax dollars to assist his dictator buddy Odinga in Kenya in writing a new constitution that would include legal abortions and Sharia law. He’s so helpful!

  • dan

Aren’t these people (our elected officials)sworn to uphold the constitution? Isn’t this bill an affront to the constitution and the Bill of Rights? Are’nt these people (our elected official)in violation of their oath? Shouldn’t those that have presented, endorsed, promoted, vote for, etc., be at the very least discharged from their positions, or impeached? Would this affront to the U.S. Constitution be considered a treasonist act… Should’nt all those that are in support be treated as traitors and charged with treason?
    just sayin!

    • bp

dan; do you think this DOJ will take any action? God help us all.
