Senate Bill Seeks To Declare America A Battlefield

Senate Bill Seeks To Declare America A Battlefield

A bill discussed in the U.S. Senate on Monday, dubbed the National Defense Authorization Act, would authorize the military to detain Americans suspected of terrorist activities on U.S. soil without charge or trial.

The bill, created by Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Carl Levin (D-Mich.), declares American soil a battlefield and allows the President and all future Chief Executives to order the military to arrest and detain American citizens, innocent or not, without charge or trial.

Opponents of the legislation say that it will create military powers never before used within the borders of the United States and that it designates the entire planet as the battlefield in the War on Terror.

The American Civil Liberties Union released a statement last week calling into question the motives behind the legislation:

Hasn’t anyone told the Senate that Osama bin Laden is dead, that the president is pulling all of the combat troops out of Iraq and trying to figure out how to get combat troops out of Afghanistan too? And American citizens and people picked up on American or Canadian or British streets being sent to military prisons indefinitely without even being charged with a crime. Really? Does anyone think this is a good idea? And why now?

There is some speculation that organized protest movements such as Occupy Wall Street have encouraged lawmakers to put provisions in place that give the Federal government the authority to quickly quell dissent that grows out of control and the detain agitators.

I thought there were laws already in place for just cause, one merely has to enforce them!!??__

The main terrorism come from Islam Extremist’s, and it’s two fold problem!_ There are Muslims dressed in Native Garb who come and go from Country to Country, and never cause harm. Then there are “Other’s” that are Dressed in Native Garb. who are hell bent on destroying the West. Difference is, is hard to tell the difference! Unless your frisking them all!__ That’s the bottom line!
So as not to “Target” peace loving Muslims,(and keeping it all Politically Correct) Our ever Lovin’ GUV, sets up TSA, to “Cop a Feel” or scan everyone, so no one gets they’re feelings hurt!__
Great Bill GUV, now if someone in the Military wants to get revenge on a movie, they can target anyone they wish with no repercussions!

Good grief, that’s suppose to be a “Civie” or Civilian!

      • sidewinder

        Yeah…
That’s if you believe everything you hear..that is.

Whether these terror threats have been orchestrated by our intelligence agencies, or whether they were simply allowed to happen, or…even if the government was totally clueless about them, the bottom line is, the federal government benefited massively from them. The Fed Gov’t benefited from its massive increase in power it now has over the American public.

The government likes that power, and you are kidding yourself if you believe that they wouldn’t love another terrorist attack to give them the justification for even more federal power over us.

They are already installing Intellistreets in many major cities. And this, at a time of total financial crisis….very smart.

But my real reason for posting is this…
Over a year ago on THIS site, I asked if sociopaths were perhaps running our government and major corporations. I also sent that question around to the major political parties.

Now I see an excellent article on sociopaths/psychopaths, and how they are attracted to positions of power.

Read this…you need to understand what a psychopath is, and why its useless to complain about “fairness” or wait until they finally do the right thing…because they never will.

        Read this, and understand this.

I also called for mental health screening for all those wishing to enter public office, and seeking to climb the corporate ladder where they will find themselves in a position, such as Wall Street Banking, to wreak havoc on a nation without remorse, then advise Government how best to fix it.

These mental health defectives, are the equivalent to throwing sand in the gear train of society, so long as we continue to ignore them, and the vast potential of damage they do.

Either we screen for psychopaths, or else we stop playing games and end drug screening, and call it a day.

Why focus on a small problem and ignore the greater one?

          • Joe H.

            sidewinder,
Yup! Let’s drop the screening!! UH, the next time you fly, let me know the day before so I can take your pilot out and get him real high AND drunk!! A hungover pilot, just the thing to take your mind of the worlds troubles. Course, I’ll make sure you meet him and smell the booze on his breath!!

If any American ever needed proof that WAY too many losers in Congress have WAY too much free time on their hands, this is it. McCain and Levin are INSANE.
Uncle Scam doesn’t have too much power and control NOW? And you LOSERS want Uncle Scam to have MORE power and control? I refuse to give either of you LOSERS any benefit of any further doubt. Retire. Go away. You truly make people who were born retarded seem intelligent. In case you’re not certain, that was NOT a compliment. You are BEYOND disgust.

    Constitution???…

Welcome to the police state people, the government is out of control.

How many of your are aware of that plans are also on the table to use drones to spy on Americans?

  • simian pete

I have a question ! Does this bill apply to the members of the Senate also ?

So if you are a Senator, and designated a “suspect terrorist”, THEN you are arrested and held indefinitely (suspension of habeus corpus) !!!???

All I can say is “HAIL CAESAR ” !!! HA HA HA !!! It’s the end of the Senate !

These are exciting times ! Adventurous times !! In the end only one man will rule ! This is the will of the American VOTER !!! HA HA !

This bill specifically precludes any US citizen, therefore members of congress would not be subject to the provisions of this bill were it to become law.

OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT IS LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM BEING TRUSTWORTHY FOR SUCH A SINGULAR DECISION AS THIS.

OBAMA IS A MAN WITH A NATURE OF A MUCH EARLIER PRIMATE THAN HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS.

I AM 74 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE NEVER, NEVER LIVED UNDER A PRESIDENT LACKING HIS RESPECT FOR THE TRUTH.

I HAVE NOT READ ALL PRESIDENTIAL BIOGRAPHIES OF OUR COUNTRY’S EXECUTIVE OFFICE HOLDERS, BUT, I’VE READ ENOUGH TO CONFIDENTLY CONCLUDE THAT BARACK OBAMA HAS HAD ZERO COMPETITION ON DEDICATION TO CORRUPTION FROM ANY AND ALL PRIOR LEADERS.

WTH is wrong with you people? You are all referring to S 1867 which specifically states that “The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States.” Is that not clear enough? Do you need to check your prescription? This bill (amongst other apporpriations) authorizes funding for a number of defense related activities that are not normally carried in the defense budget, such as medical care for Americans that are liberated from captivity by terrorists, interpreters, and other related subjects. Read it for yourself, DO NOT just take what the ACLU says as gospel.

So local law enforcement cannot check your immigration status… but a military “arrest” will? Chances are that reality will be closer to the paranioa of many here. Even if the released you once your citizenship was proven, the damage to your life would already be done… from lost jobs, damaged families, communities pit against each other….

  • Jackie Yow

This is but one of manr step to destroy liberty.

    • Jeep

Did you read the bill? Or, are you basing your comment on what others have said? This is not an issue…the bill does not contain all the bad things being swept around the internet.

      • action not words

I have to agree with Lori. If they get this bill in,it wouldn’t take much for them to amend or even encompass for clarification on terms like terrorist or dissent. Perfect example is how easily the constitution is manipulated and distorted to fit their needs. We already see the direction that law enforcement is taking against what they consider dissent, recently with OWS and Univ.of CA. Even if you don’t side with these groups the old constitution proteced these americans. And this is before S 1867 ?

  • loriwy

I do not want this bill period! Do you really believe it will never have ammendments added? No military arrests within our borders! We have civilian law enforcement (police) federal excists (Ice). We have FBI the CIA, we have border patrol and probably 100 more agencies. Why do we need a military state also?
