Scott Brown Sworn In, Promises An Independent Voice In Senate

February 9, 2010 by

Scott Brown sworn in, promises an independent voice in SenateScott Brown officially became the 41st Republican member of the Senate after being sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden Feb. 4, a week earlier than expected.

"I want to get to work," said the junior senator shortly after taking the oath of office. "There are a lot of votes pending that I would like to participate in."

Brown, who has vowed to vote against the healthcare bill and "send it back to the drawing board," said last week that he plans to take part in the debate over the best strategy for job creation.

"The last stimulus bill did not create one new job," he said. "In Massachusetts, it hasn’t created one new job, and across the country as well."

Brown added that small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy, and that tax cuts across the board are necessary to stimulate economic growth.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin demanded that Brown "respect the rights of the [Democratic] majority," referring to the former state senator’s sudden push to be seated before a vote on one of President Obama’s nominees for the National Labor Relations Board, according to the Boston Herald.

Brown was initially expected to be seated on Feb. 11, but pushed to be sworn in sooner after several commentators complained that he was "dilly-dallying" and taking "a three-week victory lap."

An independent voice??? Just what does that mean? Will that be his excuse to vote with Democrats? Before the election, I had never heard of him. But since he got elected, I have read and heard that he has a voting record in Massachusetts as a liberal. Is he just another RINO??

    • Michael J.

      Harold,
I think the answer is yes, he’s a RINO and at least some of us knew that. The upside to Brown’s victory is that it put up a temporary road block to Obamacare. Time will tell if he will vote in a Romneyesque fashion or meld with the conservative momentum which is currently sweeping the country.

      • Bruce

        Michael,

Can’t argue with that now can we. Saddly we have more nut cases in both houses then seems possible, let alone the gutless weeine’s.
But lets see what he does. I think that removing all the OWO Progressives is whats needed if they have ever laid claim to being such we need to remove them, all of them.

My fellow patriot, are you beginning to see the light? He has already said that Rep’s should not expect him to vote across the board with them.Simply follow the trail. The first two he met with in D.C. were Kerry and Teddy McCain. What was discussed in those meetings? Why would he meet with a leftwing liberal and a Rep.Progressive/Liberal? McCain supported Brown and has now suckerd him into voting across the aisle.Brown is indebted to McCain. We now see them trying to take control of the tea party, through Palin.McCain is a Progressive leech and his prints are all over these people.Remember that Palin is campaigning for Lefty McCain. No RINO’s allowed in the tea party! Remember, once they get there, they do as they please. They forget to ask what “we the people want”.
“There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily.” George Washington

I hope Scott is not a progressive, They are the ones we need to remove from office because they have a agenda that does not include us. You know we the people.
I pray that he will listen to us and have a open mind to vote on issues that will serve us best, And not what they want. Most of us LOVE AMERICA and we want to hand down to our children a great nation that is productive and honest.
The government took an oath and we demand they stand by it and not violate any part of the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION.

    • DaveH

      Phil,
It’s a little late. They’ve been breaking their Constitutional Oaths for at least the last hundred years.

      • http://victorbarney@embarqmail.com Victor L Barney

Only with the Marxist agenda. Otherwise, even the forefathers who wrote the Constitution broke it.

  • J C

What oath is they swear to when they are sworn in? Is it to protect the Consttitution? If so they are liars before they start aren’t they?

    • William Nealey

yes Jc. they swear to uphold and defend the constitution of the united states and defend it from all enemys with out and within. the same oath we all took in the military, and so many of them now have scorned the very oath they took and now are trying to destroy the UNITED STATES, and our way of life which so many of us fought and in the case of a lot of my friends died for, thats why I wont vote for an incumbent office holder next election. and I will scrutenise all of them very closely the next election if God willing I am here to vote,

      • J C

It’s time for a major overhaul William. This dog and pony show needs to end.

        • http://personallibertydigest Mari

I agree. We need more people willing to stand up with good morals who can be elected into office so that we can get all the trash out of the White House. One thing that could possibly help is for there to be term limits on the congress and senate. We know they’ll never vote for that one.

      • http://victorbarney@embarqmail.com Victor L Barney

I thought that breaking the Constitution was TREASON? Why is no one being charged?

        • s c

Victor, when foxes control the hen house (a very polite way to describe Washington), you should know in advance who’s going to get served up on a platter. This is one of the many secrets about Washington that has as yet to become widely known.
In effect, Washington is bunch of criminals who are busy watching each other’s back. Once in a while, someone has to be sacrificed, if only to ‘appease’ the dumbed-down populace.
Meanwhile, the charade goes on, and America gets to pay for having faith in those who are not fit to govern anyone or anything.
If NO politician could look forward to a career in Washington, most of this crap could be solved. As simple and as true as this is, some people JUST DON’T GET IT.

          • Joe H.

            S C,
Well let’s hope the next one to go under the political bus is Obummer! right behind him should be P-lousy and Dirty Harry Reid!!!

  • Norm

Scott is a centrist Republican. I share most of his views. RINO means
Republican, and it is a good title. Neocon radicals are not Republicans, they are right wing extremists and are more dangerous the left wing.

    • DaveH

RINO means Republican-In-Name-Only. The Republicans used to be the party of Free Markets and Limited Government. That is no longer the case.
There is only one Party that toes the line of Freedom that our Founders envisioned. That is the Libertarian Party. If you think there should be Individual Liberty, Individual Responsibility, Limited Government, and Free Markets, then the only political party for you is the Libertarian Party:
      http://libertarianparty.org/platform

      • Norm

        DaveH
Republican in name only, as in non right wing extremist, sounds great.
The Libertarian Party has about as much a chance of getting a candidate elected as the Green Party, the Perot party, the Communist Party, or the tea baggers. That is – no chance in hell.

        • Frank

The Libretarian Party only struggles because the sheeples wont get behind them! Its the people that make the party, not the other way around. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the Libretarian party, in fact and principal they are a better party (when you look at their stance) then the Dem or Rep. I was a staunch Rep for 20+ years until I woke up to the reality of a losing battle the “2 party one source” political situation we have here! Sadly both parties are financed by BIG bussiness and elitest, the longer we stay behind the Dem & Rep party the faster we sink. Now once the cycle is broken, and Liberty is restored, we can reclaim those 2 parties. Until then we will be continually “Fed” candidates from the party, not the people.

        • DaveH

Kinda like your chances of losing the Blinders, Norm.

          • Norm

            DaveH
More like yours. Wake up Dave, it’s not 1800. We don’t live on farms and fight indians. We have advances in medicine and technology, and live in a complex world.

          • Joe H.

            DaveH,
What Norm means is we live in a politically corrupt world as is proven daily by the libbers he supports!! Is it any wonder the crime rates are up in the inner cities? They see the corrupt leaders of this country getting away with everything short of murder and think they can too!!

          • DaveH

We have advances in Medicine and Technology Norm? Aren’t you one of the Liberals that argues we need government intrusion into the healthcare industry because they are so deficient?
The 1800s would be an advancement over the Dark Ages that you Liberals aspire to.

          • DaveH

Here is the kind of person that thinks like Norm. Listen to this speech and hear how this Liberal Idiot prescribes more poison for the disease that he and his fellow Democrats created.
Keep in mind that Reagan cured these problems by getting government out of energy and getting control of the money supply:
            http://millercenter.org/scripps/archive/speeches/detail/3402

          • Dylan

            Dave,
Norm doesn’t have blinders on. He’s just had his head up Obummers a$$ so long, he hasn’t seen the light of day for 18 months. I don’t expect this to “change” any time soon…. ;-)

        • rwnut

When the moment in a movement like the tea party is handed to us,and we don’t get in there and take it,and fight for change, then we don’t really want it.Norm is perfectly happy being a left wing liberal. No chance in hell,Norm? We the people are in the process of cleaning house,so step aside Norm,or get in and fight for the Constitution.
“Let me now ….warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party…It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeebles the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms;kindles the animosity of one party against another;foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption…A fire not to be quenched,it demands a uniforms vigilance to prevent its bursting into flame, lest, instead of warning,it should consume.”
          George Washington.

        • JC

I see Norm, so all Republicans are right wing nuts unless they are “centrists”. In which case you can agree with them.
Still dosn’t make much sense though…wouldn’t you have to move about one solar system to the right to be any where near centrist?

        • Meteorlady

Actually I have lived places where the Libertarian candidate has gotten elected and has done a pretty good job. The press would love you to believe that Libertarians are nut cases, cranks and extreme right, but they are probably the true believers in this country and it’s Constitution. What the press won’t say is that if they give them too much publicity people might really start believing we can change things.

  • realbigal

Don’t put too much faith in the “Brown Revolution” in Massachusetts. The moderate Brown (Scott) was recently elected in what was really a referendum about “Obamacare”. He will vote like McCain. The LaRouche follower Brown (Rachel) is running against Big Brother Barney Freak in the Democratic Primary (That will be comical.). Neither one is “the answer” but how can any Conservative be too disappointed in having really bad legislators replaced. We just need to do better.

The good news is that the patriot Brown (Dale) is also running in another congressional district. He is the real deal and would be one of the top 10 Congressmen in the country if he could get elected. Visit http://www.brownsview.us for more information.

  • B.J. Holmes

We can remain a great nation by following the Constitution and by fearing God. It is time that we place our confidence in Him if we care to win our nation back from corruption. We have placed corruption and the Chicago mob in power. It is evident on every issue. There is not one knowledgable person holding office except maybe Robert Gates, in the entire administration. No wonder Michelle was advised to “hug” Queen Elizateth and ‘Obummer” to bow to all dictator world leaders. He doesn’t bow to democratic leaders. Wonder why” I think it is because he expected them to “rule” as a dictator. But so far, they too, think he is a Muslim jerk, unable to “rule” even with their tips. He taught the “Constitution”??? in the university??? Actually, only how to violate it. He slipped through school only by means of affirmative action.

  • realbigal

Hi, DaveH — Keep up the good work.

    • Norm

Love is a many splendored thing.

      • DaveH

Maybe you can buy yours Norm, like Obama buys his votes.

  • s c

For the uninformed, a RINO is a lower life form best thought of as a ‘Republican In Name Only’. If Brown
can remain truly independent, good for him. My concern is that he may rely an ultraliberal dictionary. God willing, we will not learn the hard way that yet another ‘useful idiot’ RINO has escaped from an asylum.
If we ever need a ‘useful idiot’ RINO, we can always get Specter, a certain general or what’s-his-name from Arizona.

  • Dave K

The only way we are going to get the country back to its root values of maximum individual freedom and minimum government is by educating the younger generations to think for themselves. I’ve seen my nephews become much more receptive to conservative values over the last few years. The key was in planting a seed of doubt in the youthful acceptance of all that glitters is gold, but doing so in a way that did not impugn their intelligence, and more importantly, demanded at least a minimum of critical thinking from them.

When young people discover that they have been used for a political agenda they will never forget that lesson. They get pissed off like anyone would, and though it may sound cruel to accelerate the pace of their felix culpa, it is now necessary like never before in this country’s history to wake the little buggers up as quickly as possible.

We have some great kids around these days, despite the usual generational grumblings about the “entitlement generation”, etc… Encourage them to develop their own tools for making informed decisions and they will be the ones to undo what our lack of vigilance has precipitated.

Who knows, they could be the propellant for a new age of free market individualism. Better by far than the current leftist nihilism that has supplanted religion.

  • eddie47d

I’m a progressive on many issues and I say congratulations to Scott Brown. I believe Coakley did’t take her job of running for Senator very serious. She thought it would be a walk in the park and deserved to loose.

    • realbigal

Be careful not to misinterpret the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts. The election was not about the candidates, it totally became a referendum on “Obamacare”. Any equivalent (to Scott Brown) Republican canidiate in Massachusetts (there really are about 6 Republican State Senators) would have had the same results. If you talked to the voters on election day you amazingly discovered that over 90% of them were voting to either stop or advance socialized medicine, NOTHING ELSE. This clearly shows that there really are more ordinary people than there are twinkies, watermelons, and elitists. EVEN IN TAXACHUSETTS. We just need to get honest media coverage of reasonable and excellent candidates, and then get the ordinary people out to vote.

      • Joe H.

        realbigal,
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for honest news coverage by the MSM, it could be a long breathless wait!!!

  • (Wondering Woman)

When we look at what the “elite planners” have produced and managed to
infiltrate governments with, and then read that plans are to start public education at age 3, and couple this with what appears to be a global effort to outlaw home schooling, it smells mighty-lak it is aimed at brainwashing our children in the most formative years. I have read that Obama has already signed papers to place us under UN and WHO rule, which means that UN will also be ruling what our children are taught in our schools. I don’t trust the UN’s future ruling any more than I do their past ruling (remember that Copenhagen conference led by the UN which was touting the scientific lies of global warming). Whoever the hacker was who exposed the scientific lies coming from the prestigious scientific organizations, we all owe him/her/or them a mutlitude of thanks for their diligent work in hacking and their perfect timing of making them public just before this Copenhagen conference has delayed the “elite’s” success in ramming the new world order through at that Conference, and buys “we the people” all over the globe time to counteract this inhumane group of people who would govern us and reduce our numbers by orchestrating programs like sterility drugs in the water supply, possibly enforced abortions, unidentified GMO foods which definitely have not been genetically engineered to improve our health. For other things to look forward to just look into the books written by and the backgrounds of those czars and others that Obama is surrounding himself with. A few excerps from his safe school czar’s reading recommendations for grades 7 through 12 are enough to thoroughly disgust and outrage those who realize that somebody whose recommended reading material for schools sounds more like the pedophiles’ “grooming of the child” than it does education has been appointed as one to keep our schools safe. One has to question the morals of this man, as well as the morals of the man who placed him in that position and keeps him there despite many protests from outraged parents and some of the legislator’s requesting his removal from that position. When you look at the backgrounds of these czars and others appointed by the same man, you realize all of them share
some inhumane beliefs, and must have been handpicked, brain washed and trained by the same ones who would have the new world order. Imagine what a world of children brainwashed by that government would be like!!!!! If they succeed in making home schooling illegal, that means no child will escape that brainwashing, because their parents will be arrested as criminals and probably incarcerated if they defy the law.

In closing, I have a question. Does anyone have any definite knowledge or reliable source of information on whether or not Obama was sworn in using his Koran (Muslim) instead of the Christian Bible? If so, his conversion to Christianity is his biggest lie yet!
Which raises another question, whether he is a natural born citizen and not a dual citizen, has he been legally inaugurated ???? or does using a foreign holy book make it illegal and thus would make every act he has taken since then illegal!!!!!! Just Wondering and hoping for some humane, sane answers.

    • D. Bryson

BO HAS HIS OWN PRIVATE CEREMONY AND WAS SWORN IN USING THE KORAN, AFTER THE INITIAL INNAUGURATION CEREMONY IN FRONT OF PEOPLE WHERE HE INITIALLY USED THE BIBLE..THAT WAS JUST HIS CONTINUED ACT OF DECEPTION. THE INTIAL ONE WAS GETTING ELECTED BY FRAUD AS A SENATOR, WHEN HE WASN’T EVEN AN AMERICAN CITIZEN. HE WAS BACKED BY BIG MONEY UNIONS AND THE LIKE WHO BOUGHT A PUPPET. OBAMA ALSO HAD A ‘CLOSED DINNER’ NOT EVEN OPEN TO THE MEDIA, WHERE HE ACCEPTED FOREIGN DONATIONS FOR HIS CAMPAIGN, ANOTHER ANTI AMERICAN, UNCONSTITUTIONAL THING. BUT WHAT DOES HE CARE? HE WAS NEVER AN AMERICAN CITIZEN! AT BEST, HE HAD DUAL CITIZENSHIP, WHICH IS STILL UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND MAKES HIM INELIGIBLE FOR THE PRESIDENCY. SO HE IS ONE BIG LIE. HE WAS ADOPTED BY HIS INDONESIAN STEP FATHER, WHO WAS A MUSLIM, HIS OWN FATHER WAS MUSLIM BUT UNDER BRITISH CROWN, SO HE WAS NEVER AN AMERICAN, AND HIS MOTHER, WAS TOO YOUNG TO CONFER CITIZENSHIP ON HIM AT THAT TIME ANYWAY.HE IS HIDING THE FACTS SO HE CAN INSTITUTE THE AGENDA OF THE LEFT WHICH IS WHY HE IS DOING THINGS SO QUICKLY, BEFORE ANYONE DOES WHAT IT TAKES TO STOP HIM!AND HE IS NO BIBLE BELIEVING CHRISTIAN! HE HAS PLAINLY STATED THAT “THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO HEAVEN!” AS YOU KNOW, JESUS IS THE ONLY DOOR.

    • Michael J.

      (Wondering Woman),
Sounds like you get it, thanks and keep up the fight. The price we pay for freedom is eternal vigilance.

  • D. Bryson

If you think that not voting Republican and splitting the ticket will accomplish what you Republicans or Libertarians want, think again! We have to STAND TOGETHER, UNDER ONE BANNER, or we are going to let our name calling and division stop us from taking control of the country, as has happened this last time. No matter what you think of those in the Republican Party to date, there are those who are good and honest, too. If you don’t think so,then vote them out, but for God’s sake and that of our Country, DON’T NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN BECAUSE YOU THINK YOUR PARTY IS BETTER.IF YOU DO,NEITHER ONE WILL WIN AND THE DEMONS WILL HAVE CONTROL FOR FOUR MORE YEARS! WHAT IN GOD’S NAME IS WRONG WITH YOUR THINKING THAT YOU WOULD DO SUCH A THING? NOT VOTING IS THE SAME AS VOTING FOR THE ENEMY. THEY WIN BECAUSE YOU DON’T GET IN THERE AND FIGHT, YOU ARE MAMBY PAMBY AND LILLY LIVERERED AS WE SAY OUT WEST! SO STOP YOUR SNIVELING AND START WORKING TOWARDS ONE GOAL.”A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF CANNOT STAND!” and “every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation..”

    • Dylan

      D.Bryson;
You are ABSOLUTLY CORRECT!! A split conservative vote will give the liberals a win, both this November, and again in 2012. I would vote Libertarian, BUT until I can convince 50 million other conservatives to do the same, my vote would just be wasted. Why don’t people realize this??

  • BUTCH

THANK GOD FOR SCOTT BROWN! HE STOPPED OBAMA’S DEATH PANEL FROM KILLING MY PARENTS.

  • rricharadson

Scott Brown, not a US citizen. Scott Brown has never proven that he is a US citizen. Scott Brown has never shown his birth certificate. Why doesn’t Scott Brown show his birth certificate and make this go away?

  • American liberal

So far Scott Brown seems to have more commonsense than the average Washington Republican… Let’s just hope he keeps voting for the good of the people and not the same old ” just say No” routine from the republican party…
