Santa Claus

December 23, 2009 by

Santa Claus

One Christmas past my eldest son Richard was furious with me.

Since he was old enough to remember, his mother and I had told him about Santa Claus. It seemed like a harmless enough fib.

He loved Santa Claus. Not only was Santa a magical character of mythical proportions, but his very existence—in the eyes of a 7-year-old—meant limitless potential. If he wanted something special, all he had to do was ask Santa Claus.

Of course Santa didn’t always bring everything he wanted; but there was always the prospect that he could, or the hope that next year he would. It was the ultimate fantasy of something for nothing.

Unfortunately Richard’s fairy tale came to an end.

“There really isn’t a Santa Claus, is there Dad?”

It is one thing to perpetuate a myth and another one to outright lie.

“No son,” I said, “Santa Claus isn’t real.”

Disappointment washed over his face. He had to get the truth from his cousin. Mom and Dad couldn’t be trusted. The whole thing, even the milk and cookies set beside the fireplace, were one big lie.

Yet for our 5- and 3-year-olds—Matthew and Sarah—the myth burned on for a few more years. They knew there was a Santa. Mom mailed letters to the North Pole every year, and there were visits to the mall to see Santa himself. Sometimes Santa even brought them exactly what they wanted.

It’s been 20 years since that Christmas and I am starting to wonder if there is a Santa Claus. It is our Federal Government, and this Santa gives the gift that lasts all year.

“If you take the government to be Santa Claus,” says economist Robert Higgs, “you naturally want every day to be Christmas; and the bigger the Santa, the bigger his sack of goodies.”

That sack is certainly getting bountiful. Today the Federal Government is not only the nation’s largest creditor, debtor, lender, employer, consumer and contractor; it is also Santa Claus to tens of millions of Americans.

According to the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, roughly 47 percent of Americans either pay no tax or a negative tax (Washington sends money to some people every year through such programs as the Earned Income Tax Credit).

The Federal Government has a long list and lately it hasn’t bothered checking it twice. Since October of 2008 the Federal Government has committed $700 billion and already spent $420 billion through the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. The Feds have also set aside another $400 billion in separate bailouts to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

For companies like General Motors (GM) and AIG, which have been gifted $50.4 billion and $69.8 billion respectively, there really is a Santa Claus.

If you want to check on all the goodies that Washington has given, there is a detailed list you can see here.

Best of all, Santa wants to see all of his gifts given. On Dec. 8, President Obama unveiled plans to use some of the $200 billion in lower-than-expected spending on troubled bank assets as a fiscal stimulus. Obama claimed his proposal is aimed at alleviating the “continued human tragedy” of unemployment.

Obama said he wants to create “the greatest number of jobs while generating the greatest value for our economy.” And just like Santa, Obama is leaving the price tag off.

What we do know is that the President is calling for an extension of unemployment and health insurance benefits for the more than 15 million out-of-work Americans. According to Obama, boosting jobs—through more government spending—is the best way to tackle the deficit. That kind of deductive reasoning is every bit as magical as Santa Claus.

The list seems endless. Forty billion dollars needed in Afghanistan? Done! One trillion dollars needed for Obamacare? The Democrats are working on that. Meanwhile there is even $1.1 billion for a new agency to protect consumers. And the Greens can count on a stocking-stuffer delivered fresh from Copenhagen.

Bad Santa

There is just one problem. Santa is broke. The budget deficit is a runaway sleigh. For the year ending in September it hit a stunning $1.4 trillion. If that weren’t bad enough, the Congressional Budget Office forecasts a cumulative $9 trillion deficit over the coming decade. When I started in this business in the early 1980s some were issuing dire warnings over Reagan pushing federal debt above the $1 trillion mark. This Christmas it is $12 trillion and climbing.

“No single year’s deficit is any particular danger,” says the Dec. 8 Motley Fool, “but their accumulation quickly becomes lethal. Piling up endless sums of debt works until it doesn’t, at which time a vengeful flock of chickens comes home to roost. Those needing proof can ask Dubai, or simply refer to the recent performance of the U.S. dollar.”

In fact there may be one heck of a Christmas hangover. Moody’s is looking at the debt of both the U.S. and U.K. and might downgrade it from “Triple-A” status.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “Moody’s released the report as part of an effort, spurred by investor demand, to examine the creditworthiness of the world’s most highly rated countries.”

That’s very bad news for Treasury investors. And in the end it may mean the end of Santa Claus. Foreigners hold $3.5 trillion in Treasury debt. If they start unloading even a fraction of this debt the U.S. dollar will crash and the price of gold will soar.

So let me leave you with this Christmas wish; that you buy you and your loved ones some gold. Unlike Santa Claus, it will always be there for you.

Yours for real wealth, good health and, Season’s Greetings,

As a student at the University of Alaska i must completely disagree. What obama is actually trying to do is enrich our capital system within our own american economy. The fear in washington is that Americans will not be able to sustain a viable lifestyle in the 21st century because virtually nothing is produced on american soil anymore these days. The clinton administration allowed for american based companies to leave our traditional ways of manufacturing nurtured by our own economy and produce abroad in order to save on working wages, therefore un-employing more and more americans. The ugly truth is that in order to save on production costs america fired its own work force and hired the chinese instead leaving our own to fend for themselves. not everyone in america is a millionaire and can afford to start a business or trade with foreign markets. What you have now is a nation of buyers and not a nation of producers draining our entire economy by our own companies abroad. The companies which have left us in the dust are simply draining our wallets without remorse.Calling obama a fictitious santa is simply red herring. Washington is aware of our economic problem and is attempting to reserve what wealth is left within our system by lowering the cost of medication, and socializing another huge drain to our economic solidarity “THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES” because americans are no longer able to afford health care costs which in comparison to other nations are unfair and economically unethical. In order to generate a more sound economy washington “should” re invest in american based businesses and NOT FOREIGN VENTURES. In fact it would be wise to raise taxes to companies whom import and do not produce within our boundaries in order to discourage from buying foreign goods because they are a drain to our economic solidarity.

  • IdiotOBAMA

This is just another reason why we must all band together and do WHAT EVER IS NECESSARY to get this idiot and all of his czars out of office.

Unfortunately OBAMA has also probably kiiled the chances of any other black man being considered for the position of president……

    • Maxine Albritton

Lots of luck, We will be lucky if the American Dummies don’t put him in for another 4 years. I thought one previous Democratic was about the worse I have ever seen, I was sure 4 years would do it. Wrong! He earned another 4. I am real tired of purple lips and dumbo ears.

    • Jay

Then there’s even another reason to get rid of Obama. Has it struck anyone that what’s going on today is a mirror-image of what happened to Germany in the 1920′s and 1930′s? That maybe Obama is deliberately spending these huge amounts of money that the Treasury will have to print, so that it will re-create the hyper-inflation of Germany during those two decades? And has anyone considered that Obama doesn’t want to be re-elected in 2012, but instead declared da Fuhrer, leader and savior of the economic disaster he’s purposely creating? It’s not hard to reach this conclusion. Either Obama is deliberately wrecking the country to bring about a result like this, or he’s stupid. I don’t think he’s stupid.

      • http://Yahoo Dee D

Hey Jay – To think the whole scheme started with Geo. Bush Sr when he proposed the plan to his Russian buddy (N.C.) at the summit they attended together. Every other Pres. and members of all three branches has bought into the OWO – OWG scheme.
Both Republicans and Democrat parties. It’s been one heck of a game plan and all us stupid voters have enabled them along the way and publicly fought the battles for them. Yep – just like Hitler – he also swayed the masses.

        • http://Yahoo Dee D

          Me dumb N.K. that is.

      • JC

Jay, I’ve been saying that for a long time now. Keep spreading the word…keep trying.

    • Raven 1

I so agree with you …. People voted for Odumbo because they wanted to show how open minded they were. Many who voted for him say it was about time and it was history making and they were doing their part for History??? What the hell does that mean? So open minder their brains fell out.On election night I told my husband that it will be 100 years before another Black liberal will be in the WH because he will screw this country and its people to the wall.I can see Black Conservatives getting there as it will take someone equally passionate and articulate to bring us back from the distruction this fool is causing.

      • Palin is the Problem

Much of the reason for Obama victory was the competition. McCain was the right man… in 2000. Nobody with half a brain wanted Palin to be one beat from McCain’s heart stopping. Palin might be likable and all, but let’s face it she has a BA from Idaho. The one job she had as governor… well she quit. I had a lot of friends that made fun of the fact that they graduated Wash State U. They said they could always take solace that at least their college was better that Idaho.

Perhaps she visited Stanford once and thought that made her smart.

        • DaveH

No college can make you smart. That is a task only you can accomplish. Don’t think for a minute that bashing others will really elevate you.

        • http://aol Devil Dog

Hey Palin is the problem; I would DEFINITELY have Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency than the grinning idiot, foot in the mouth, Biden. for that matter I wish she WAS on the ticket as pres. rather than vp. I’d vote for her in a heartbeat. She has more experience and common sense, plus KMOWLEDGE, something you youngsters think you have but don’t. Grow up kid.

          • Jana

            Devil Dog,
I would have Palin in there too. The problem is she represents middle America with good solid standards. Socialists and Communist wannabe’s are afraid she will pull us back to our good ole American values.
Oh I pray their fears come true.

        • Big D

Palin is the problem, you better watch what you say here. Some of us our from Idaho and due to popular belief, we are not the stupid, brainless hicks you college wanabes think we are. By the way, Merry Christmas.

          • Jana

Big D, I have relatives in Idaho, and its a beautiful and wonderful state.

    • Big D

I can totally agree with that! As I listen to various talk shows, I hear Black people calling in now and saying how disappionted they are in Obama. He is making it harder for the black comunnity, and their goal to rid this country of racism. Another African American holding such a high office…… I doubt it now.

      • CB

I just bought my first concealed weapon today!! Go out there Americans and use your right to the Second Amendment!! Merry Christmas!!

        • Big D

I’m behind you CB 100%, but be careful not to get to extreme, our amendment rights are a great thing, but we can’t use them as a threat to others who may not agree.

    • Dennis

Just like Santa Claus, HE DOESN’T HAVE ONE!!!

When all guns are removed from the American citizens………….then AMERICANS will not be able to protect our families or self from the take over of the Federal Government as it is happening right now under our noses.

The only way to stop the organized take over, going on today by the anti-illegal American president, is be prepared. Being prepare is not to give up our rights to the second amendment, to protect ourselves.

I strongly urge ever God fearing American to arm your self and be prepared to protect your love ones. I hate to think that our great country is coming to now.

Who said they would take over America without firing a shot? It’s happening right now faster that a speeding bullet.

    Get prepare to defend yourself.

One executive order from the White House could undone what our forefathers fought for, “OUR FREEDOM TO BEAR ARMS”.

Are you READY?????? You had better be……………..

    Red Neck Country Boy’s opinion.

    What Yours??????

    • Maxine Albritton

Right on Redneck Boy. Obama tells others we are not a Christain Nation anymore – well, we must not be to have elected him. You told it like it is. I am sure God has turned his back on us by now and we truly deserve it.

      • jim

Hi Maxine, All of the people who voted for Obama are getting all that they deserve. The only thing I resent is the number of us that knew better and voted against him are going to be dragged down with them.

        • Michael

Yes we are getting what we voted for. Health care reform and finally a country we can be proud of again after 8 years of embarrasment under bush.

          • jim

Hi Michael, So you think heading towards and embracing socialism is something to be finally proud of. Let’s ask the Soviet Union how it’s going for them. Oh wait, they’re not around any more. We are talking about Obama and a Democrat congress and what thet’re doing now. When ever you can’t refute what was said just change the subject. What were you most embarased by from Bush anyway?

          • DaveH

Is this the same Michael who says he teaches college classes and censors the sources that his students can use for reports? Talk about propaganda and a closed mind.
How can a college teacher be so ignorant? Do some studying teacher. Socialism doesn’t work:

          • Diana

Michael needs to read this website:
Perhaps the new world order will be more to his liking than the semi-freedom we still enjoy. History repeats itself, IF you can find any unabridged versions of history. There is nothing new under the sun that has not been tried. You like socialism/communism, well hold onto your seat, you are about to experience it.

          • http://Yahoo Dee D

Nothing as close as Socialism Jim.
It’s the ONE WORLD ORDER that’s been the game plan all along.
And all us suckers have enabled them. Smart aren’t we?????????????

          • JC

How very short sighted, small minded and history ignorant.

          • Big D

We voted for healthcare reform, not healthcare replace, or healthcare run by the government and forced on the people!

          • http://none John Staples

You are just another blinded Bush hater, and like ALL Bush haters you have not one reason. Not one reason other than what you might have picked up from other Bush haters. So, what is your reason? If you are a Bush hater, you must be an Obama lover.

        • http://Yahoo Dee D

Jim: With the administrationS (many) before Obama – We had already hit the bottom of the barrel and that left only one way to go – up.
I think the one true reason Obama was elected was because we could not go another 4 years with McSame. We never learn. Same mistakes time and time again.
Regardless who is put in office – not much improvement could be accomplished for our country and her citizens because the game plan was set in motion many years ago.

          • DaveH

And it won’t end until people finally realize that Big Government isn’t the solution to their problems.

    • Raggs

Well… I have been hearing the threat of a dictatroship removing my rigths to bare arms like everyone else…
They can have mine one bullet at a time!!!!!!

  • http://none John Detwiler

Hang onto your hats people, we haven’t seen anything yet if this Guy and his minions have their way we will be forever changed. Our only hope that we can correct some of the damage and get these clowns out of office. It must be ovious by now that Obama wants to change the way the USA functions. (WORLD GOVERNMENT ANYONE?) But some of the things in the Obamacare bill will no doubt be Constitutionaly chalenged. How about equal taxation? Some of those states that recieve relief from tax in the bill for instance. And how about forcing someone to buy insurance? That in my estimation is another constitutional question. That in my opinion is a viotation of my God given and constitional right to protect my privacy.

    • Curtis S

I gotta ask, why is a one world government a bad thing? We are a global village. Our trading and financial systems are globally inter-twined. We pollute globally, thanks to affordable air travel, diseases are no longer a regional concern and many more can become a worldwide pandemic. We are one world, and no longer just a bunch of independent tribes, why not a Global Government?

      • Richard Citizen

Why not a global government?? Well ask ImAnutjob of Iran who is sure that there will be a global government, and it will be a muslim one. And how can there be a global Government when there are countries that are avowed to wipe other countries from the face of the earth.
We have not evolved as humans enough to be ready for a global government. And perhaps never will. And such a government would be socialistic in nature, which defeats the individual drive to achieve. There are many reasons that a Global government will not work for many generations to come on this planet. It might be a nice thought, but not practical now. Until all humans have a universal enemy, and come together to defeat it, it is impossible.

        • Curtis S

Ah yes, the one world Islamic government. That’s gonna be the last big war. Once all religions are exposed for the controlling frauds that they are, maybe then we can all live free.

          • Vinny Raineri

Religions are “controlling frauds”? I thought Liberals were supposed to be tolerant!

            I think you’re projecting, Curtis.

          • Diana

If you think the Islamic people live “free” then you need a reality check. Do you think you want to live under that, well, when it happens, lets see if your definition of “free” still stands.

          • DaveH

I guess then that Liberalism must be a religion, because they sure are control freaks (and thieves too).

      • DaveH

You can’t even get along with us. And you think the whole world can get along under one government? Give me a break. As government has grown more intrusive in our society, there is more arguing and fighting than ever before. It makes sense as government tends to impose one-size-fits-all solutions. We all have different likes and dislikes. The best way to satisfy that condition is to allow people to make their own choices for their own lives, something that Democrats don’t understand (and many Republicans too).
As far as the pollution thing goes, it is a well-known fact that the wealthiest countries are the cleanest. So you think impoverishing the US is going to help pollution?
Big Government has never been the solution to economic prosperity. The most desirable and economically robust countries have the least government. Look up “economic freedom” and start learning.

      • Jay

For one thing Curtis, the one-world government was prophesied in the Bible 2000 years ago. And if you read all the way through the Book of Revelation, you’ll find that after the one-world government comes the Antichrist, the Mark of the Beast, and total annihilation of Earth. And you think that’s a good thing? The only people that’s good for are the Christians because it means Jesus has come and taken them away, while anyone who doesn’t have a relationship with Christ will remain here to live through all the devastation. Just something to consider.

        • Diana

AMEN, Jay. The people left behind are going to experience terrorism after the first 3 1/2 years as they only see on the movie screen, but it’s going to be real life, I feel so sad for those people.

      • http://Yahoo Dee D

Curtis S – You may have a point there.
Maybe all the top dogs will kill each other off, wanting to be the leader of the whole cancerous scheme. Dreams are free.

      • J C

Hitler had a global government in mind too. So did Stalin. Nuff said, or do you somehow think that a global government is just a bunch of good ol boys who love and care about us all? This just in: “They Don’t”.

  • JuliBMe

Sorry, but the color of his skin makes NO difference to me whatsoever. If Thomas Sowell we EVER to run for president, I would vote for him in a minute. So, basically, you see, this IS a color-blind society. Unless, of course, you happen to be COMMIE RED. Then, we will reject you!

    Merry CHRISTmas!

  • DaveH

The difference between the mythical Robin Hood with his ‘robbing from the rich to give to the poor’ and the modern day Liberal version is that very little of the money stolen by the Liberals actually gets to the poor. Most of it goes to the Political Class.
Above all, the money they steal is not theirs to give.
Charity is when you donate your own money to those in need. What the Government practices is just plain theft.
Nobody except the owner of that money knows how what sacrifices or hard work went into his/her life earnings.
And nobody but the poor person knows how little effort went into his/her life.
For an outsider to take from the wealthier person to give to the poorer person is nothing short of theft. And that theft destroys the work ethic of its victims. When those victims give up the hard work and sacrifice that got them their wealth, we all will lose.

  • Phillip Sandusky

Character is the measure of a person not the color of their skin. We have a President that has no character at all in relation to being an American. He appears to be not American but concerned with other things. His agenda seems to be the undoing of everything that sets the United States apart from the rest of the world.

Obama is first of all a socialist, pure and simple. He wants to turn the United States into a socialist state like the other countries of the world. Obama set the poor against the rich in his fever to begin class warfare in the U.S.

Our struggle is to rid the nation of such thoughts but how if so many suck at the teat of government? A merry Christmas indeed.

    • American Citizen

Under this administration and Democrat Congress, we are quickly sliding into becoming a third world country. Our educational system is failing our future voting citizens as was shown in the last election.

I doubt there are many of our young people who could pass the test for citizenship. I think it’s time all students have to pass it in order to graduate.

        • Phillip Sandusky

We are losing our national identity. Young americans do not know what it means to be a citizen. Our schools teach multiculturalism rather than history. And the history they do teach is a mishmash of distortions about our founders and mostly about the contributions of lessor characters of other races. Have you looked at your child’s school books? If not, you are in for a surprise.

          • Richard Citizen

I read an article not too long ago about an interview a reporter did with a High School student. When asked what was done during the week in his history class, he said that on monday they discussed President Obama and how he was so important to the country in these times. The rest of the week was spent watching and discussing a movie about the US hockey team defeating the russians many years ago.

Corruption and fraud….how about class action lawsuits against all of them. They are traitors to our constitution…Also the trial is pending over obozo’s documents in the California court, due on Jan 26. Maybe he can be impeached and his cabinet expelled…All of them need to be impeached and jailed and we need to repeal every thing these incompetents have crapped out of their limited brains.

    • Michael

I would not start looking into court proceedings if I were you considering bush/cheney started an illegal war and should be tried as criminals. Furthermore parts of the so called patriot act is unconstitutional.

      • Richard Citizen

I believe that if you do some checking, the president can only present to the congress the need to go to war, and it is only congress that can declare war.
And as to Iraq, there are now an estimated 300,000 iraqi’s alive that might have been butchered under Saddam Hussein since we threw him out. And it is recorded that he murdered thousands of hiis own people over the years he was in power.
In addition recent documents have shown that he did indeed have nucleur development underway and moved it to Syria prior to our going in. That was destroyed bu the Israli’s a few months ago, and has only recently come to light.
So If you want to call the Iraq war illegal, fine. But it did save a lot of lives, and perhaps will save a lot more if Iraq can become a democractic country. And we don’t have Nukes in the hands of a despot.

        • http://Yahoo Dee D

Richard – Bush Sr supplied Hussein with the arms that he turned on his own people.
Hussein nor the Iraqi people had anything to do with the invasion on American soil on 9/11.
So why is bin Laden still alive? Why did the Cheney/Bush administration leave Afghanistan before the promise was completed bringing the al-Qaida thugs with them into Iraq?

      • DaveH

So you have a problem with somebody spying on your conversations? Me too, but I would take that any day over the freedom loss and theft that the Liberals force on us.

Blarg! Your benevolent TOTUS and his circus clowns didn’t repeal the “Patriot Act” as you anticipated. …and I agree with you that they should. But, it works so well now in their favor! To be used against us as Citizens who might dissent against the new policies of Washington and the horrible majority elected through ignorance that they were going to make the Federal Republic better by destroying the Constitution. Unintended consequences? Blind faith in an amateur?

When you are cleaning up anothers mans mess. What do you think is going to happen. Remember George Bush and his henchmen?????

Well, Santa comes but once a year and my is he prolific….Our Big Fat Government is coming far more than anyone wants them to and they are making a huge mess.

Tiny Tim said and rightfully, “GOD BLESS US ALL”…..With the government intervening in every aspect of out lives these days I say “God help us all”.

ONTIME- With the Republicans fighting at every thing put on the table.
The health care plan is so corrupt as it stands right now. We need to bow to the Republicans for putting up the good fight to squash everything anyone has tried to do for the people and our country.
Maybe we should polish off the swastika and display it instead of our stars and stripes.

  • Phillip Sandusky

I would like court proceedings on all who have enacted unconstitutional crap, who limited it? Just because there is a lot of noise about Obama, does not excuse the rest of the rats.

  • Ardvark

Mr. Myers, is what your family gets an deserves for having worshipping pegan rituals like Santa. Christmas is the most holy time to worship. Even the nottion os Santa Claus is confusing. It hurts kids from worshiping Jesus our blessed Lord & Savior

    • Richard Citizen

Wow!! Are you the guy that put the Aethiest sign up on the lawn of the capitol of washington??
I don’t think that Santa is worshiped by anybody in this country. He is actually a symbol of the good that a person can do for others. Children need to believe during their earlier years that there may be some magical things in the world. And the notion that all children should be taught nothing but reality from birth is not right. Notwithstanding the fact that Santa is actually based on Saint Nicholas an actual person that did good during the Christmas season many years ago. We have perhaps gotten to the point where we are more materialistic, and need to back down a bit. But outlaw Santa, I think not.
And as my children got to an age where they no longer believed in Santa, I made it clear that we all should practice the giving spirit that he represents all year long, and that this season is called Christmas for a reason. To celebrate the birth of Christ.

      • Lena

I couldn’t agree with you more Richard. Childhood is about fantasies. We grow up all to soon and quickly find out that miricles really don’t happen. Mr. Myers, the notion of Santa was a good thing to give your children.

    • jim

Hi Ardvark, Our family found room for both Santa and Jesus our Savior. We understood that you can have fun and still believe. The Santa didn’t diminish from The Christ. Ardvark and everyone who reads this, may you all have a Blessed and Merry Christmas.

  • Elmer Schumacher

This is my opinion, just the way I see things. All I read in the news is finger pointing. Our country has grown not to accept responsibility for our actions. I do not care where it started, what I do care about is that the big spending is still going on, and that my children are not going to be able to go to college or see another christmas gift under the tree, because I can not afford it, Thanks to both political parties. We need to take a hard look at ourselves not only as individuals but also as a country. The fact is that the government is not listening to the voice of the people. They just do what they please when they please. I could give a rats ass that the President is black. I just want a President that will listen to the American people and not the stack of money dropped on his desk. We do need to stand together as a nation, but that will not happen until we as a nation put aside our hate for one another. Peace on earth and a safe and happy Christmas to every one this holiday.

    • Richard Citizen

      I second that motion.

    • DaveH

    • Diana

Your are so right, the gov. doesn’t listen to the people. Look at this crazy deadline they have on the healthcare bill, they have paid off those opposed to get them on board. Now if that is a good bill, why the rush?? Why the payoffs??? Our gov. has gone amuck and there is no stopping them.

      • http://Yahoo Dee D

Diana: You are correct – they do not listen because they know they don’t have to. We keep putting the same scum bags into office election after election and they keep voting themselves pay raises so that when they do retire they are able to live the life of luxury at our expense. Yep – we done a wonderful job telling them to keep at it.

Go to this may be what your looking for.

  • Johnnyrite

It seems to me that if we don’t bailout almost everything we will fall into another Great Depression. This way we don’t suffer the terrible economic consequence of outright deflation, but we do suffer growing inflation and frankly a loss of our freedomes. There is no free lunch, and goverment hand-outs come at a cost to all Americans.

Spending was getting out of control but this crazy war in Iraw has really put a buzz saw through the economy. The U.S. has spent over $3 trillion in its two Mid East wars, and no idea when we can pull out.

Just as Rome feel becasue of over-spending and military conquest, so too is America

    • DaveH

We need to get back to the wise ways of our forefathers (without the slavery part).

      • Elmer Schumacher

        Very well said DaveH

      • http://Yahoo Dee D

DaveH: We are all slaves to our dictator government (the same ones we keep putting in office) election after election. They dictate who can work and who can’t. They tell us how much of the pay we earn we can keep and how much we must pay in Federal, State, City, and County taxes.
Then they throw in all the extras that we must pay, e-checks, drivers license fees, insurance to be able to drive and the list is endless, like the bunny, it keeps going and going with no end in sight for us slaves.
We keep going along with every directive. They’ve got us right where they want us. We aren’t able to think for ourselves, we are at each others throat on a daily and constant battle. The rule – divide and conquer. We follow their bidding. They are winning and we keep losing.

        • Dennis

Go to we can change all of that just check out the site.

  • Abdul-Aziz

I like the idea of the” forefathers (without the slavery part)” At the beginning a congress man represented his constituents. However, after watching the congressional debates of Healthcare reform, it seems the members of congress representing the healthcare industries more than representing those who elected them. I think that the congress had been hijacked by the healthcare companies who contributed to each member of congress up to $10,000,000.

  • Raggs

Thats almost all I have to say, but not everything I need to say.
I’m sure the same idiots who are for abortions and health care are behind all of this… Well well.. its just a matter of time and time is all it is.

    • Dennis

For a very good explaination of the dangers of our freedom, please see The movie is also shoing on cable showtime2 channel. It is very interesting!

Now this will make you sick!!!! If it doesn’t you need a lot of help but I’m sorry I will not abide!!!!

I had to investigate a “rumor” of MOA TSE TUNG on the “so-called” white house Christmas tree. See it for yourself… If you agree with what obama has done than well you know… I told you this fool is the anti-christ….

  • Raggs

Oh me I mispelled his name…. MAO… I wonder if I can mispell oscumbob’s name?

  • nancy

If all the people think that this administration is doing good for the country, maybe they should look at the Soviet Union. Poor people on government run programs no incentive to work and better themselves.
Large number of alcoholics and living in poor housing. I think there are to many here wanting a free ride. If you can’t afford a house and have no job how can the government expect you to buy insurance? I guess I am from the old school but if you can’t buy groceries and housing how does that make since to insist that you buy insurance? Isn’t it more important to have a home and food?

    • Raggs

Thats an easy one… The why is… this gives obama control over you and every aspect of your life. And thats the bottom line for the congress we have which must go. They want you to be belittled by them, dependant on them, and loyal to them. The term “SHEEPLE” comes to mind… In other word’s they want a mindless idiot to produce for them what they wish nothing more and nothing less.
If for some reason you grow old ( go figure ).and cannot produce you will be cast away. Oh I know all agout the sweetheart deals of free health care,,, Yeah rigth as a rock floats! I have a real hard time understanding why most people dont see the communist dictator writting on the wall… You need to get to the point… Control, power and corruption not to mention lies fraud and deception.

Am I wrong? I would like to know if I am wrong if so I will correct myself. Does anyone think I’m wrong and if so tell me why without a lame excuse or misconception…

      • American Citizen

Those of us with any common sense who voted in the last election could see the writing on the wall as to what would happen if Obama was elected. It’s happening much to our detriment but not to our surprise.

The whole concept of Santa Claus is wrong and that makes Mr. Myers’ column ignorant.

Perhaps he will read the scripture: And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

    • jim

So Santa is the Beast? Who worships his image?

      • Raggs

Funny… Thats about the same as asking who does the beast worship.

    • American Citizen

There is nothing wrong with the image of Santa Claus as he is who we are supposed to be, not the federal government. I like the picture above with the image of the White House with the huge Santa hat on top. That’s who Congress thinks they are.

  • Abdul-Aziz

This Administration inherited the collapse of the financial and housing industries and the sky rocketing unemployment. The Government had to step in to save these sectors and prevent more foreclosures, holt unemployment, and keep credit available. If these three aspects are not saved a world power would have been history.

GOOOH stands for ‘Get Out of Our House’ and is pronounced like the word ‘go’. It is a NON-PARTISAN plan to evict the 435 career politicians in the U.S. House of Representatives and replace them with everyday Americans just like you.

If you are tired of career politicians, GOOOH is for you. If you believe money has corrupted Washington, GOOOH is for you. If you believe politicians have too much power, GOOOH is for you. If you are weary of the death grip the two parties have on our government, and are ready to return control of our government to the people, then GOOOH is for you.

GOOOH is NOT just another political party. It is a system that will allow you and your neighbors to choose, among yourselves, the person who can best represent your district.

GOOOH is an evolving system and your input is requested. The questions are changing based on the feedback of members just like you. Participate in the forums, take the survey, and send us your thoughts. This is YOUR system. We will perfect it with your input.

GOOOH is a new system that will allow “we the people” to select true representatives, not choose between a Democrat and a Republican. If we continue to elect career politicians who represent their party, the special interests that fund them, and themselves, nothing will change. GOOOH is a non-partisan process that will allow us to effect the change we all know we need.

    GOOOH will allow you to:

1.Help select your Representative – while being considered yourself
    2.Hold your Representative accountable
3.Replace career politicians – with true representatives
4.Take the money out of the process
The GOOOH process allows Americans of every political leaning to participate in the selection of their District’s Representative while being considered themselves. Through GOOOH’s Candidate Selection Sessions you and your peers will select the candidate in your district who best represents your district’s views. Even if you do not wish to become your district’s representative you will want to participate in the process and have a direct say in who is chosen to represent your district. GOOOH will fund a single national campaign to promote the 435 candidates (one from each district) who are selected to run against the party politicians. Because GOOOH is a process for selecting representatives (not an agenda-based party platform) we expect a person left of center to be selected in San Francisco and one right of center in Colorado Springs — but it will be up to the GOOOH members in each district to decide.

For GOOOH to succeed we will need at least 500,000 participants. We will continue to build our base of supporters until we have the participation we need, at which time we will begin our effort to have the GOOOH party added to the ballot in the 50 states and to select our 435 nominees. There are many variables involved in reaching this level of support, but we believe it is only a matter of time.

Originally, the founder of GOOOH proposed excluding lawyers, members of political families, and individuals with more than $11.5 million in assets (250 times the median income). They were not to be excluded because they are bad people, but because they are overly represented in government today and, generally speaking, no longer seem to represent the common man. However, based on input from our members, the Question Committee has voted to remove the exclusion of lawyers and the wealthy. Instead, it has been decided that members of these two groups must simply declare that they are a lawyer or have more than $11.5m in assets in each Selection Session in which they participate. It will be up to the participants in each pool to decide whether or not that is of concern. We believe this change is indicative of the continuing evolution of the GOOOH system.

We hope you will join GOOOH today and help us take our House back from the politicians!

How do you know when Obama tells a lie? His lips get bigger. Those Democrats who promised to vote against the bill and then allowed themselves to be bought deserve to be voted out. I hope the people in those states are paying attention. Senator Bayh is in the same boat, paints himself as a moderate and votes as a liberal. It’s time to clean House/Senate with a great big broom/votes.

  • James Corbin

Jay, you are right but this is the worst I have ever seen—This left wing party is destroying us. When Obama’s term is up in 2012, everything will start to really kick in and guess who gets the blame!!!! As for me a am a registered Democrat but this is going to change!!!After I have seen and heard all this corruption and Harry Reid, saying it is business as usual—–and Obama campaigned that it wouldn’t be business as usual in Washington. They all LIE.

    • DaveH

Obama and the Democratic Congressmen will never accept the blame. We could be in Depression for 10 years (as under FDR) and they would still not admit anything was their fault.

  • James Corbin

Jay, Yes! This is what it is working up to—I have said all the time Obama is taking us to one world government, One world religion(muslim) Have you ever seen such a growing religion( here in the last days) and one world bank. after awhile money wont be worth anything, then they will change the currency. They will have the US so in debt
and this is what will happen!!Jay, this is what you are talking about.
    You are exactly right1

Remember that song, “Grandma got run over by a raindeer”?. Let’s hope all the members of Congress, the Senate get run over by raindeers this holiday. As far as the White House and it’s staff, they deserve a lump of coal in their stockings.

Getting back to Hitler and history repeating its self. Do any of you know how close that is? Do you know that there already concentration camps in the U.S.? Who do you think they are for? They have been built for awhile and no one talks about them. Just go to or go to (surprise, surprise) They have taken unused military camps among other sites and referbished them with high fences, alarms, camera’s etc. Just check it out for yourself because its more than I can tell you about here. Also check out the hidden Muslim camps that have cropped up along the east coast and now starting on the west coast. Concealed in remote places with guards. The Time is Near!! Please check it out for yourself and pass the info on to all you know.

Our Republic has a broken Government.

Replace ALL of them and return to the Gold Standard.
Hows that change working out for you?

James, Mrs. Obama may be right, Our Constitution is the heart and soul,
of our Republic. One thing is for sure, middle-class America will have

    1980 TO 2008

    1980 to 2007

    18 years Conservative Senate
    12 years Conservative House
    6 years Total Conservative Control

Redistribution of Wealth to top 20%.

Folk! It is downhill slide for Middle Class.

    FACTS—numbers rounded-

1946–1% owned 30% of Total Wealth

1980—20%–a 33% decline due to Estate Tax and High Top Income Tax Rate.

    thence cometh conservatism

80% Increase in 8 years of Reaganism

2007–20% owned 93% of Total non home Financial Wealth

    80% owned equity in homes.

Most major corporations are owned by WALL STREET RICH MEN CASINO

In 1945, corporations paid 35.4% of federal revenues and 7.4% in 2003

In 2000, 45% of corporations with revenue over 50 million paid no federal tax

Five Wall Street Banks own 75% of all Bank Deposits in America. 5.

    Two own 20%.

    Think that is not POWER???

In 8 years of Bush with 6 years of Total Control

They (wall street rich) created a Net New Jobs of 31,000 per month.

Why? That is NET. You take the new jobs created and subtract the ones sent to China, etc

    31,000! Wow!

Bush took over after Clinton had created 237,000 Net New Jobs per month.

Clinton left Bush a spending of 1830 B Per Year.

Bush doubled it to 3600 B.

Bush inherited a 5700B Debt from Clinton. He took it to 11,500B

20 years of 3 conservative presidents did this horrible thing.

Took the Debt of less than 1000B after 200 years and added on 8000B.

In 2009 they are spinning big time to blame Obama for huge debt.

Conservatives will spend millions to coverup their Big Recession.

Much of that 8000B Debt add-on went to WALL STREET GAMBLERS.

The people do not know what has happened to them.

Forbes list of 400 Richest reveals how many became Billionaires via corporate
    takeovers and Hedge Gambling

Right Wingers yell Rich Pay most of taxes.

Income Taxes!Yes! They have most of the money.

Yet! Conservatives transferred much of taxation from Rich to Middle Class. Reagan voiding REVENUE SHARING a disaster for Middle Class where taxes were transferred from Rich Income taxes to Middle Class in State and Local Taxes. Was it by design?

Was it a Designed Act of taxation transfer by Conservatives.

In 2008 the Middle Class paid 30% of nominal Income in Federal-State-Local Taxes.
Top 10% paid 30% also. Progressive tax system?

Social Security Tax Increase in 1983 was it designed to hit the Middle Class and ease on the rich?

Greenspan + Reagan. 6.2% Tax on Middle Class. One earns $50,000 pays 6.2%. Earns $1,000,00 pays 6.4%. Earns $10,000,000 pays 1/10th of 1%. By design to keep rich rich?

Was Destruction of S&Ls a deliberate act of wealth transfer from 400 local investors to individual Rich on Wall Street?

Key actor Michael Milken became a Multiple Billionaire with income of 550 Million in one year from raiding S&L deposits (plus) for his Rich Corporate Raiders on Wall Street.

Raiders like Perelman and Ichan became multiple Billionaires.
    Sweat of Brow? Ho Ho.

Bush I had to borrow 140 Billion on 40 year bonds to pay for the raids on S&L’s by Wall Streeters.
140B creates many Billionaires and Millionaires. Depositors money was used by those Corporate Raiders and bankrupted the S&L then the government pay off to depositors by Federal Deposit Insurance created Debt for Middle Class.

    RAPE OF MIDDLE CLASS 1980-2007

Same ideology gave us Great Depression now Great Recession.

It is not a Depression due to:

Democratic Social Safety Nets such as
    Social Security and Medicare

Only the uninformed vote to send conservatives to Washington.

Some type of Revolt will take place in next decade.

Democrats will continue to allow Conservatives with their huge right wing talk shows spreading lies to blame them.

Democrats need a national Megaphone informing all the people as to what has been done and how they have been RAPED by a few million RICH on Wall Street who have taken their Wealth.

    I ask one thing.

PROVE ME WRONG. With numbers and facts not usual vile name calling

All American Party-How Democrats created a great successful Middle Class and how Conservatives are determined to destroy it
