Ron Paul Told Us There’d Be Days Like This

Ron Paul Told Us There’d Be Days Like This

On Tuesday morning, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell decried President Barack Obama’s continued refusal to address the “fiscal cliff” toward which their Republican and Democratic accomplices are currently driving us at terminal velocity. According to McConnell, Obama needs to get off “the campaign trail.”

For what it’s worth, McConnell is right. Obama ought to care a great deal more about the crushing debt with which he will burden future generations of Americans — especially considering they’re already going to be saddled with the hassle of learning English as a foreign language. But Obama won, so he doesn’t care about much beyond fixing his putting stroke and making sure Susan Rice wins the State Department’s annual “Miss Benghazi” pageant. Come to think of it, add Obamacare to the list and that’s nearly everything Obama ever cared about. Waiting for him to wise up about combining spending increases with tax hikes at a time when the national debt has increased under his reign from “humongous” to “broken calculator” is about as worthwhile as expecting the first lady to shop in the discount section.

Meanwhile, McConnell — who is supposed to be able to wrangle some sort of unity from the Republican minority — appears to be doing so with all the skill of a blind quadriplegic herding tigers. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) actually seems proud to have abandoned his post as one of the few Horatios at the American economic bridge.

With GOP resistance requiring a B12 injection to reach “token,” it looks like the rest of us ought to prepare ourselves for tax hikes across the board. Obama and the Democrats will claim the hikes will only affect the “rich.” But 401(k)s and mortgage deductions have hit the table, meaning the definition of “rich” is about to get a lot more expansive. On the plus side, the Senate may finally pass a budget for the first time since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was still rigging land deals.

With the Democrats planning to rifle through our sock drawers for loose change and the Republicans cowering like Rahm Emanuel at a tanning salon, to whom will fall the duty of protecting what little we are allowed to keep? The answer is the same as it has been since the days of the founding of our Republic: you (also, me). Upon being asked by a citizen what he and his fellow Framers had wrought, Benjamin Franklin reputedly responded: “A Republic, if you can keep it.” It was our job to preserve and protect ourselves then, and it remains so today.

When the Democrats claim that our fiscal crises are somehow the fault of some amorphous group of wealthy folks, they do so for the sole purpose of pitting the proverbial us against the proverbial them. As they roar their tired class-warfare clichés, the corporate media dutifully make idiotic “fair share” debates the focus. When Republicans concede ground on punitive tax rates and spending cuts (let’s get rid of the Marine Corps, but keep funding — or whatever), the Democrats see that as a green light to roll heavy into our wallets.

If Obama’s trouncing of the only-slightly-more-conservative-than-Obama Mitt Romney should have taught the Republicans anything, it’s that Americans are seriously disinterested in replacing pathologically dishonest Democrats with mewling, moderate, milquetoast Republicans. Yet the GOP appears well on its way to flunking “What The Voters Want 101” — again.

And now, both parties are engaged in an attempt to keep the economy from falling off a cliff by yanking the wheel and stepping on the throttle at the same time — meaning we’re still going to take the plunge, but now we’ll be doing it backward. 401(k)s? Mortgage interest deductions? Why not go whole hog and bring back the Democrats’ infamous attempt to tax imputed income from potential room rentals? When the Beatles wrote a song about this in the late 1960s, they were only kidding. Yet I half expect some Internal Revenue Service suit to hand me a bill for sitting down.

A quick glance at the Federal budget reveals no shortage of programs which can and should be cut. The idea that the Feds would respond to a fiscal crisis by ignoring those programs and instead start drooling over our homes, our savings and our future is neither more nor less shameful than the idea that any of these clowns, Republican or Democrat, are allowed to manage a piggy bank, much less our national economic future.

What a silly concept! How about that Obama talking to THE PEOPLE rather than the right wing that hasn’t cooperated at all for the last four years.

    • hipshotpercusion

      Mr. smith…Are an complete Idiot?

      • Robert Smith

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but America voted out a siginificant number of the right wing teabaggers, and rightly so.

May I ask a question? Certainly. Why are you so opposed to the PEOPLE being involved in government? Aren’t the PEOPLE what America is about?

      • Warrior

“involved” or “working for”. BIG DIFFERENCE! Majority “working for” are NON-PRODUCTIVE. Git it?

      • momo

hipshotpercusion says: “Mr. smith…Are an complete Idiot?”

      • victoryintruth

        Apparently so…..

    • eddie47d

Just as I suspected the Republicans are accusing the Democrats of sitting on their hands when in reality it was they who fiddled and delayed while Rome burned. Republicans are still stroking themselves and putting on a good face but it is all a mirage. Either work with the other party or go back to your Barbie dolls.

      • ANNE

The Democrats have not put forth a budget in 4 years, on the other hand Republicans have put forth a budget and Harry Reid filed it in the round file, you know the file that goes no where. Obama wants tax hikes without any spending cuts, (he says he will entertain spending cuts, yeah right) the Republicans have fallen for that old line before, we raise taxes but Obama once again ignores all spending cuts and the Republicans once again come away with egg on their faces. I don’t mind some tax hikes, but we must have spending cuts, and take away the credit card of the politicians, they are like children in a candy store with unlimited spending. The first thing that needs to be cuts is all Foreign Aid, #2 stop all power to the EPA, they are a job killing agency. #3 stop all funding to the United Nations, we don’t need them telling us how to run our country, I could go on and on but I will leave it here.

      • victoryintruth

They’re all liars and only in it for their own wealth accumulation and power trips.

      • Motov

The only thing both parties work for is to increase GOVERNMENT over our lives.
Get rid of several aspects of the Government The Constitution states is off limits to the federal government. That alone would make the budget easier to manage.
We don’t need a military presence around the globe, That would make a much better impression with everyone. Get rid of TSA, and other alphabet organizations that cater to fat cats/mad scientists/communist central planners/brainwashers.
In other words get Washington DC stripped from its illegal power grabs, Make the politicians play by the same rules WE all have to play by.
Bring real transparency into the Government, so they are actually doing what we voted them to do.

      • Frank Kahn

And the Democrats are sitting on their faces and talking out their backsides eddie. It was Obama and the Democrats that caused the gridlock by REFUSING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY. NO NEW TAXATION CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. CUT THE SPENDING LEFTY, WE WONT PAY FOR YOUR WORTHLESS GARBAGE ANYMORE.

The last stimulus money could have created several hundred million jobs, or could have just given millions of people enough money to live comfortably for several years.

Have you seen the latest reports on GM, they are toast, they will need another multi-billion dollar bail out in the next 5 years. They never had any credible plans for staying competitive before Obama wasted that outrageous multibillion dollar bailout the last time and they still dont have a plan.

And infrastructure? Well, yes, we need infrastructure for all the businesses, that are failing, to use. You dont need roads to drive on if you cant afford gas to run your car. And, eddie, who is going to pay for all this rebuilding of the infrastructure? The Government? No, wait. they are broke, and the taxpayers (what few are left) cant help them out.

Raise taxes? Well, lets see here, the current spending of the government is what 40% of GDP? So if we take every penny that is produced we will lower the debt by what 1 trillion a year? So, in 16 or 17 years (assuming anyone survives starving to death) we might pay off the debt? Oh, and lets see now, with every penny going to pay off the debt, where is the money to create new jobs? Cant even pay the workers they have now.

Obama, and the democrats, along with most republicans are mind dead when it comes to solving the economic problems we have.

Obama uses sound bites that come very close to the start of a solution, if he was serious and knew how to accomplish it. We need better scientific training, higher standards of education in the basics like math and science. We need people that are motivated to be innovative and creative. People that have the skills to create new products that are needed and are good for the populations of the world. We need the Unions out of our government and our school system. We need the government to create incentives for EVERYONE to strive for more knowledge and understanding of how things work.

We need the Democrats to get out of our lives, leave social issues to the people, stop telling us what we should think and how we should act. They dont want me to tell them that abortion is murder then they should not PRETEND killing an unborn baby is a mothers RIGHT. They dont want me to say that being a HOMOSEXUAL is IMMORAL then they should stop trying to tell everyone it is normal and acceptable.

Two homosexual women say they just want to be allowed to raise their children in a loving home. Their children? Two women cannot have a child together, it is biologically impossible so saying they are their children is not correct. And I know some will say they just mean children that men helped them produce but just as sperm donors of something, but that is not always the case. I actually saw two women fighting because one woman said her lesbian lover lied about the baby she was carrying being hers. She actually thought the other woman was pregnant with her baby and then found out the other woman had cheated on her with a man. Okay, maybe that is an extreme case, but I am fairly certain any child raised by those two women would have some twisted ideas about biology.

Sorry, I got a little sidetracked there. Anyway, back to the subject. It is not the republicans job to agree to whatever the democrats demand, higher taxes are bad, failing to drastically cut spending is bad. If you want something positive accomplished they (both democrats and republicans) need to work together to find a good solution. And OBAMA needs to keep his annoying and divisive nose out of their business.

    • Motov

Obama only lies to the people. Please try to be more accurate. He’ll say what ever they want to hear, but what happens is often another thing.

    • Bud Tugly

On the list of sanctimonious blow hards, McConnell is close to the top. When, after the 2008 election, he declared that the number one job was to make sure Obama was a one term POTUS, he lost me. His number one priority should have been doing what is best for the country.

      • Frank Kahn

But he was doing what would be best for the country, getting rid of Obama. It is a matter of point of view and opinion there.

    • dcjdavis

Would THE PEOPLE be the ones receiving benefit of all his stolen goodies?

    • Smoovious Laxness

It isn’t the duty of the Republicans (or us Libertarians for that matter), to cooperate with the Democrats, just because we were collectively stupid enough to keep them in power another four years.

If the Republicans genuinely believe that the path we’re on with the never-shrinking government spending, will inevitably destroy our future, then it is the Republicans and Libertarians duty, to fight the Democrats’ push in that direction, at every single turn, with no compromise whatsoever.

Conservatives have compromised over and over and over again, keeping up their end, while the spenders never seem to keep up their end of the deal.

      Enough is enough.

Taxes are plenty high enough, in some cases (inheritance tax in particular) too high.

The government has enough money coming in to do the job they’re supposed to and then some, and don’t need another penny.

The only remaining issue is to slash spending deeply, and get our country’s finances back in the black and out of debt. This is the only fiscal issue that matters anymore.

      – Smoov

      • James Smith

They don’t have enough money coming in to police the world and keep the drug war going.

        • Smoovious Laxness

Sure they do… they own and control the printing presses, which gives them all the money they will ever need. They don’t even have to tax anybody at all because of it!

Although… without taxes, their ability to exert control over our behavior evaporates… so, there is that…

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he’s good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
“Taxes drove me to my doom!”
And when he’s gone, we won’t relax,
We’ll still be after the inheritance tax.

    • Barb Patton

Sadly your little poetry is very very true. We are there already and unless something is done about the ayatollah barack hussein (I wish I could use my middle name)(muslim) obama, he will, with his thugs, minions and czars continue to ride roughshod over WE THE PEOPLE. Furthermore, there is only one party in America and that is the democrat party… All the republicans do is “posture” so that the people thinks there is another party. It is a hoax and a lie..

      • victoryintruth

You’re right about there being only one party in the US. It’s the party of power, greed, corruption, evil, and utter criminal behavior. It’s called democrats and republicans… and the same “party” wherein they steal from the people who think they elected and employ them. That party is so passe and proven to be impotent when it comes to obeying their oaths of office–traitors, all.

    • yogibear

And Hahaha… that awesome dan, i was checking out all comments and opinions. Obama nows what he is doing, why would you all think he cares for any us. If many of you say his taxs effect middle class folks and not the rich, ponder just that for now. Majority is middle class, does that sound like we are in trouble? Now you dont have to believe what i am about say, but just dont rule it out…….. DEPOPULATION. This is the big conclusion that many across the United States and even Canada, if i can remember even the Prime Ministers from Great Britain mention financial collapse in there lands and in ours is DELIBURATE. I am a Veteran of The United States of America and i took an oath to defend the the Constitution of The United States of America from ENEMIES FORIEGN and DOMESTIC so help me God. So my service is to God for you all, The People (constitution). Americans and those from other countries who swore in to this country have a duty to full fill and that is 100% to defend our constitution and if not, sorry then you are the threat. So start to understand your position in America because eventually there will be civil unrest. ( )

  • teddy maher

In principle,Ron Pauls’ platform was correct and probably would have started this country on a road to stability, the unfortunate reality is the american people were not ready for his reality… They will be sooner than later unless the Dems pull a rabbit out of the hat… May I suggest that rabbit could very well be energy and oil specifically….We have enough energy in country to get us independent and become a primary supplier to the world… This would mean Obama would have to throw the enviromental wackos under the bus….For a third term he would do that…As soon as the Dems get control of both houses a third term for Obama could become a reality…

    • GRusling

That would require a Constitutional Amendment my friend, since the XXII Amendment would have to be repealed. An Amendment requires two-thirds approval in both the House and the Senate (never happen) PLUS ratification by three-fourths of the States (REALLY never happen)! Add to these two impossibilities the TIME required to get all that done and there simply AIN’T NO WAY!

Discussing such a thing also ignores the GREAT probability of another REVOLUTION if it was even attempted! Some things just aren’t worth worrying about at this point in time…

      • Centurion

So why would the Congress or administration pay attention to the 22nd Amendment when they thoroughly ignore the the body of the Constitution and amendments 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, and never actually got state adoption of the 16th?

If one man can write an order that suspends habeus corpus, gives himself the power to declare anyone, for any reason a threat to national security and also authorizes him to indefinitely detain or assassinate that person, without Constitutionally guaranteed due process, what on earth makes you think that they would pay attention to a piddly amendment that limits a president to two terms?

      • Jim Lyde

GRusling, Teddy is probably right on the oil and gas thing. If so, economic prosperity will follow. Obama will gleefully throw the tree huggers under the bus for the possibility of becoming a “benevolent dictator.” Porter Stansberry predicts that Obama will become an international idol. Under those circumstances anything is possible. Don’t forget, THE PEOPLE can amend the Constitution, also.

      • Motov

The constitution already doesn’t mean squat to Obama, it it did he would never have been POTUS in the first place, He has ignored that document since day one, and will continue to so, And the Republicans are just as guilty by not impeaching this FAKE.

      • K. August

Someone FINALLY mentioned the 22nd Amendment! I was beginning to think all we could do is bend over and grab our ankles. Next is defeat Obama, or deport him. Was he actually born in Hawaii? I have doubts about that! Prove it!

    • mark

Ron Paul didn’t even have the courage to run on the Libertarian ticket for president this year. Please. And this was his last opportunity to do so. The man is 77-years-old.

      • GRusling

Ron Paul had more courage than most of us can even understand, but he was also a realist. He knew no third party candidate could win so he didn’t waste his effort on pipe-dreams and senseless rhetoric. That’s also why both Democrats AND Republicans hated his guts…

      • Motov

After what happened in his bid with the GOP, He did the wise thing, America unfortunately will have to learn it lesson the hard way. Ron Paul offered our last exit ramp off the highway to meltdown, but no one is paying attention to all the idiot lights going off in the vehicle nor the signs warning us of our destiny.

      • Vicki

        Motov writes:
“Ron Paul offered our last exit ramp off the highway to meltdown,….”

He also clearly exposed the corruption of the GOP.

    • eddie47d

The Democrats have been doing that for drilling is way up especially for natural gas production. Obama has the correct balance in keeping the oil flowing while allowing the environment to be protected. Considering all the coal trains that rumble through Colorado I don’t think their production has been hurt either. There will be no third term for Obama so that makes you the wacko!

      • duaner

Whacko! eddie that’s calling the kettle black. Why do show up here? Go play with all of your libtard friends at msnbc.

    • Toy

I watched/recorded Ron’s Farewell Address; he was entirely correct but unfortunately, he ain’t no Cicero, which is a truly great pity.
I listened to the recording to get a better comprehension of his speech and advise you to do the same.
I’m a bit older than Ron and I give him full marks for his efforts over many decades, to wake up America.
The looks on the faces of Obama supporters when he “won” the return to the White House, was a saddening sight.

  • mark

You have to realize that Mitch McConnell is totally lost here. As he said after the 2008 election: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president,” You can see why he is so discombobulated. Small miscaluclation, there, Mitch. That goes, of course, for your entire party.

  • http://yahoo bob peters

You fools really still think you are Republicans and democrats…HAHAHA You ignorant fools. you are communists and don’t even have a clue…

    • GRusling

Not really true bob… although we now appear to be living in a communist-leaning country…

    • mark

Yeah, we’re all such ignorant fools. And you’re such a brilliant genius. You alone understand it all. Congratulations, Mr. Wonderful.

    • Mark Anthony Jones

It’s true — the Democrats are Communists and the Republicans are Socialists. The last election was a race to see who could get us into debt faster, while the media ignored the two candidates that would have balanced the budget in three years and brought us back to the Constitution. Anyone that disagrees should go back and read Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto – the D’s have embraced ALL of them and the R’s about 6 at least and we are waffling on the others. As a precinct committeeman in the R party, I am thoroughly DISGUSTED with my party, much less the other one. The party hacks in Washington stomped all over the grassroots at the Republican National Convention in Tampa and I was there to see it – THAT is why they lost in November. Consider ME uncooperative with BOTH parties.

      • Motov

In short Washington DC needs an enema,… the sooner the better

    • victoryintruth

That’s it in a nut shell, Bob.

    • Steve E

Here’s a short video of what were are talking about. This shows exactly how many Americans are.
I think many of you will agree with this.

  • NoteToSelf

Get the Government to cut the deficit down to $250 Billion first and I’m sure Americans will willingly cough up the other $250 Billion to balance the budget. Show of good faith first that you in Congress are doing something and that the additional tax money will be put to good use and be used for a good cause to balance the budget, then we’ll sacrifice out of our wallets for the taxes.

  • Elton

What conservatives fail to realize is, you cannot reason with liberal socialist democrats. They ate one of two kinds, either rich elites that want to control others or lazy do nothings that want the government to supply their basic needs so they don’t have to exert any effort.

  • Elton

    are one of two kinds…..
