Romney, Gingrich Launch 99 Percent Attacks On One Another

Romney, Gingrich Launch 99 Percent Attacks On One Another

For the past several weeks, Presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney have been engaged in a “who made more doing what” debate that one might concede plays right into the philosophy of the 99 percent.

Gingrich has consistently and vehemently attacked Romney for his lucrative tenure at Bain Capital, the investment firm involved in saving companies such as Staples and Sports Authority but also in laying off workers at companies it did not save. The former House Speaker, who released his tax returns right before the South Carolina primary, also attacked Romney for failing to do the same.

“The country deserves accountability and transparency,” Gingrich said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “I’m going to try to set the example to provide the leadership to do the right thing.”

Romney bowed to the political pressure and released his tax returns this week, which reveal he is indeed part of the 1 percent. The documents indicate that the candidate paid $6.2 million in taxes on about $42.5 million in income for 2010 and 2011, according to MSNBC.

Now, Romney has issued a statement raising questions about the relationship that Gingrich had with housing giant Freddie Mac and offering a $1.6 million reward for more information.  Gingrich released only one year’s contract; Romney wants to know more.

Gail Gitcho, Romney communications director, said:

Newt Gingrich’s Freddie Mac contract raises more questions than answers. His secrecy about his lobbying for Freddie Mac is troubling. No amount of bluster will hide the fact that Newt had his hand in Freddie Mac to the tune of $25,000 a month. The bursting housing bubble helped lead to the current economic crisis and Newt Gingrich has his fingerprints all over it. His shifting explanations amount to a shell game with the truth. Speaker Gingrich needs to fully disclose his work as a lobbyist for Freddie Mac.

According to Reuters, the efforts of the two candidates to make one another appear as fat-cat crony capitalists are playing into the hands of the Barack Obama campaign, which has plans to use Bain-fodder to attack Romney.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) released a statement earlier this month chiding Republicans who attack Republicans for embracing free-market ideas and capitalism, playing the same game as the left:

I am disturbed by recent developments in the Presidential race. These attacks, using the class warfare language of the far left and the demagoguery of Chicago politics, go against the core of our political philosophy. Republicans are proud of hard work and success. We encourage job creators. We applaud success in capitalism.

What is that old saying about rattlesnakes being placed in a dark bag together ?…Oh i know the sayiong goes that they will begin striking out at each other when they have lost clear sight..that is where the Republican party sits today and they strategized themselves into this corner when they made the foolish choice to meke their national political campaign all about the one-sighted goal to “see Obama fail” and then had the short-sighted vision to actually go about wasting the nations time and squandering opportunities to actually solve problems by remembering the value of the “art of compromise”…..watching them implode has been both instructive and a little so much as the respect for the other side of the aisle is at the core of what makes our DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC WORK ….Republican politicians have in some cases taken the near “totaltarian” position of even refusing to “hear” the seated President as in the case of a couple of freshmen congressmen who in protest refused to even attend the state of the nation..saying they disagreed with the juvenile , how completely “uneducated” ON THE TENENTS OF HOW OUR GOVERNMENT WORKS FUNDAMENTALLY !

    • JThaddeustoad

Greetings … Here is how our Democratic Republic is neither Democratic nor a Republic …. In a true republic the rule of law is the basis for governing NOT RULING !In the mess we have as a representative democracy 51 percent of the population can take away the rights of the remaining 49 percent..

  • peter

Who on earth would seriously want either of these two as their president? Please are Americans so devoid of persons of integrity that they are reduced to voting for the LEAST rotten apple in the basket?

    • Sikofitall

“are Americans so devoid of persons of integrity that they are reduced to voting for the LEAST rotten apple in the basket?”

Not really. Pete.. There are moral politicians on both sides but when your own party pushes slime balls and the media propagandizes in the name of their CEO big wigs, then what option do you have other than ‘write in’..? There’s only one runner who hasn’t lied to us.. Who doesn’t flip flop.. Who’s views appeal to logical thinking individuals.. Forget about the propaganda that one country with one bomb will destroy the free world.. Somebody is lying and stirring up the warmongers.. North Korea has had nuclear weapons for over a decade, they despise the western world, they also know if they attack any western ally that they will be destroyed in an instant.. We don’t worry about them because they don’t have any oil reserves.. The feds put fear in our minds in order for us to say, “nuke’um” therefore take the responsibility from what they would do in any case. We have been warned by both China and India (having many more nukes) that if we attack Iran it may (will) create repercussions.. How do the feds react to this ultimatum? “More wars for us, Rah!” You best play the game as our hidden rulers dictate, then on election day.. Vote RON PAUL!! He’s our only hope in a hopeless situation. Listen to HIS message, don’t believe the crap that controlled media is churning and twisting. Let this be ‘the season of the voter’.. not another billionaire controlled electoral manipulation…

  • Kerry

First off Mitt Romney’s father was born in Mexico making him inellegible to run for office! You know just like Obama’s grandfather and father that are Mau Mau’s whom enjoyed chopping up whitey in Africa when they cut nuns arms and legs off and gang raped them for fun! Well Obama was born in Mombasa Kenya and he doesn’t even have a US citizenship because he never applied for it. George Soros bought and paid for his boyfriends office to go along with the bought and paid for Nobel Peace Prize! By the way Obama has 3 names and 27 Social Security numbers, more felonies. Impeach Eric Holder who has sealed all of obamas documents and records and it will all come to light!

    • JThaddeustoad

Kerry … this a slippery slop … given that Kenyan is in the same boat in addition his credentials have yet to have been veted..

    • Justin

Actually if im not mistaken… the Natural Born Citizen clause in the constitution states that both parents need to be US citizens. Just cuz his father was born in mexico doesnt mean anything. If his parents were both US citizens at the time Romney was born then that covers him. This is to ensure he grows up with American values and liberty.

      • BSG

Both of them could be using this transparency argument to go after Obama’s sealed records, and chastising the compliant press for its lack of oversite in the vetting process of their little project. Wouldn’t it be interesting to find out that Obama went to Columbia under a different name and had it paid for because he claimed to NOT be an American citizen…Maybe some people would step up that actually saw him at the school?
Gingrich is desperate, and as a career politician and a self promoting goon he is having to stoop to levels that will only end up hurting the party.

        • WickedPickle

The ‘compliant’ press has nothing to do with it and if they begin to slur what hasn’t been confirmed, well.. They’ll loose their reporter status.. It’s the House and Senate that’s lacking in their responsibilities.. Just as when Clinton was charged with (extra marital affairs) it wasn’t the press that condemned him, it was congress (after assuming his deeds) that got the ball rolling.. No one else!! Blame our own g’ment for refusing to go forward with these accusations and leave the rumors and innuendos at home.. If there is any legality to these charges, they will (or should) find it and don’t say Obama is so powerful that he’s bought everybody on the hill and in law enforcement because if that’s true then Romney could have easily doctored his tax return(s) as he too first evaded then slowly (as if to give his minions time) revealed almost all that we suspected in the beginning.. Remember, corruption isn’t a one party game no matter how much they crow about their morality… We made a mistake by voting in Bush so we ‘flip-flopped’ and went the opposite way thinking the world as we know it would change for the better.. Obama has not performed as promised and in effect has only added to the debt, he too must go, but let’s not re-flip-flop with the pipe dream that these clowns will do any better.. Only Ron Paul has been up front with the American public.. You may not like everything he stands for (try seeking the truth of his platform through dot gov and not dot com) but he’s got a plan that no one can challenge.. It’s time to give a better man a chance to prove himself.. Vote RON PAUL!!

    • Shirley

Kerry you need to take two aspirin and call your doctor in the morning!

I think that it is wrong for any American, but most especially someone who aspires to be our President, to shield his income in the Caymans. I also think that the way some of the money was made; shutting down companies, laying off workers – all in the name of the almighty dollar, should make that person ineligible to be our President. I also think that anyone who ‘worked with’ Freddie and Fannie and took millions in pay from them as they played a large part in our financial crisis, should be ashamed to think that they deserve to be President of the USA.

  • Dave

The whole idea of Boehner’s statements when the Obama administration started, to guarantee to make Obama fail on every measure, was the grossest diversion of efforts even when time after time Obama flexed and bent to include the right’s input. Lack of respect for the workings of government and the people’s desire.
No victory can be claimed by the Republicans as they have squandered all efforts to right the boat we are in by just saying “NO”.
Now the candidates continue this rhetoric with a lack of platform. They only want to unseat Obama. What are they really going to do when they get there? They really have no ideas and have been so inconsistent in their past statements, flip-floppers to the ‘nth degree.
The only guy that has been steadfast? RON PAUL.

  • Don

I’m so over these idiots and the media’s constant pushing them on us! Their agenda is so obvious that it makes me wonder how anyone with even a quarter of a brain could vote for any candidate that they push forward in their so-called polls.

This election I’ll be voting my conscience even if the media is saying that my man cannot win and will cause the Imposter to be re-elected, because it’s time to send a message that apparently can’t be heard any other way due to media bias and government corruption. Time to prepare for the next rush on firearms and ammo sales!!! ;-)

    • JThaddeustoad

If you truly want to vote your consious …. be mindfull of the fact that your wasted vote is a vote for the destruction of what is left of this great nation…. The massses are starting to wake up and there is going to be a major shake up of the establishment in both parties this will bringdown both parties.. and it TAKES TIME… 2012 is just the beginning..

      • ChristyK

I will be voting my conscious this election. I am tired of voting for the lesser evil. I want Obama gone, but Mitt or Newt won’t be much different in the way they run the government. They will talk a different story, but the underlying actions will be the same. Because Mitt & Newt claim to support the constitution & capitalism they will give the constituion & capitalism a bad name. I think any of the three will collapse our country, but if Obama collapses the nation, we might have a chance to rebuild under capitalism and the constitution as a Republic. If Newt or Mitt collapses the country, they will give capitalism such a bad name that we will fall into tyranny and socialism and never recover.

Ron Paul or it’s all over. (and Ron Paul probably won’t be enough if we don’t vote in some constitutionalist Congressmen and Senators)

  • Joan

Santorum wins the debates. Makes outstanding
and reasonable sense. He comes from a
higher perspective God. And he is discounted.
    He can win
    Listen to his words

    • ChristyK

Santorum does not believe in liberty. His entire platform is about telling others how to live their lives, whether at home or abroad. If you are a foreign nation living differently than he believes they should, he will bomb them into submission. If you are an American he will not hesitate to spy on you to make sure you live the way he thinks you should. It doesn’t matter if your bad behavior only effects you and doesn’t hurt annyone else, he thinks he knows better. Welcome to the police state if Santorum gets elected.

      As CS Lewis wisely said:
Of all tyrannies a tyranny sicerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I used to think Santorum seemed like a nice guy, but something didn’t set well with me. Reading CS Lewis’s quote clarified my uneasiness. He is A moral busybody.

    • http://none R Paul or status quo

Joan, the debates are a joke. It’s MSM. Don’t use them for determining the best snake oil salesman. ChristyK said it best about santorum, he’s another moral busybody. RON PAUL 2012

  • home boy

these idiots just don’t get it. to bad the congress makes their own rules which limits the countries ability to get them out of office.

    • Bulldog MAMA

It is really sad, but you are right. The people are going to have a hard time getting them out, the only way is, rebellion in the streets, and remove all of them immediately, no matter what. We have allowed them to do this to all of us, the only question, are you ready to die and kill them to get them out? I am thinking there are people ready to have war here. If Obama gets in, we had all better prepare for the worst!

  • JimH

Be sure to vote in the Primary’s. In the 2010 primary election 20% of the eligablr voter’s voted, in our county. Then the people who just wanted to vote in the generals wonder why we had soch poor choices.
The primary is just as or more important than the general election.

  • http://none R Paul or status quo

Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. The only insurance I truly believe in, preparation for who knows what. Ron Paul has been my guy for a long time, I’m now looking to folks who can help him after he gets elected. Admittedly, it does not look good for his election, but there are more people awakening to his message, esp. the guys he’s running against. Trying to espouse Ron’s ideals as their own, truly laughable. RON PAUL 2012

    • WickedPickle

“it does not look good for his election”..

Where are you getting that R Paul? From the small stadiums that are applauding their choice in order to benefit with a free dinner and be a (small) part of history if one of their monkeys win? Go to every forum that you can visit and count up the followers of Ron Paul.. Do this diligently and you’ll discover there are more Ron Paul supporters than you ever thought (and that’s not counting the one’s who have no computer).. I too thought his attempt would be just for show until I began reading the posts and counting the numbers and that’s where it really is, the so-called experts determine a grand win by the group amount of ayes in any political gathering and warpedly assume they represent everyone in their State not taking into consideration that the candidate’s rival voters aren’t included within the whole.. Ron Paul is very determined.. He knew (knows) even with good intentions, no one pays attention to third parties.. He knows the reason is that the Ind. (for instance) doesn’t have the funds to threaten the big boys, to become as visible as the ruling parties so he’s doing something about it.. He’s becoming just as noticeable as the so-called leaders, saving his funds for the great confrontation with little to no dirty laundry for the opposition to exploit.. Oh yes, RP knows he won’t get the pub nomination, but he does believe when the dust has settled that all mindful voters will really have a choice of the same old or one more chance to escape corporate control. I’m an Ind. (leaning dem) but I can see a better future and Ron Paul will usher in a new wave of change and an end of stagnated leadership.

  • Rozwaldo

Articles like this simply reinforce the fact that we need Ron Paul. I keep hearing the other candidates adopt parts of his rhetoric to elicit a positive response from their audiences. Ron Paul is the man with a plan. The others will continue to let the country wallow in stagnation.

  • scibbs

I wish at this point Romney and Gingrich both dropped out and let the other two hash it out on the real issues since it’s obvious they’d rather point the finger and continue this constant bickering! I for one won’t show up to vote if Romney or Gingrich are the Nominee, they have both proven to me to be beneath the presidency!!!!!

This is what these do nothing but run off at the mouth and piss and moan, KKK racist bozo’s do best!

  • jopa

Santorum is another phony.I live in Pennsylvania and nobody here has seen him in years. He supposedly represented a Pittsburgh suburb where he owns a home but he has never lived in it.The reports of the MSM were that Rick went home to PA to do his taxes, however the home address that he has listed has no curtains on the windows and no furnishings.During the campaign he claimed to live in a little ninety thousand dollar home in Pa with his wife and kids not the $900,000.00 mansion that he actually lives in in Virginia. He can stand there and lie all week long because when Sunday comes around all will be forgiven.

  • jopa

I forgot to mention somehow Santorum was able to bill the residents of Pa, for his kids education in Virginia.Would he carry Pa. in an election. No Way Jose.

  • Angel Wannabe

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve about had enuff of the in-fighting between Romney~Gingrich!_ They act like a couple of teenagers volleying for the Miss Congenality Contest!_

Anything hidden by ANY one of these candidates WILL BE REVEALED, rest assured! You can run, but you can’t hide! ;P

  • Shirley

Is it too late for someone else to step forward and take the Republican torch? Not Palin nor Trump either! Listen to what Paul supports…isolationism and very little government…back to the frontier days, but we are no longer a frontier nation. Yes, we are tired of the way the government functions today, but let us not “throw out the baby with the bath water”.

  • jopa

I believe Mitts religion of MoreMoneyism will bring him down in the end.If we ever get to see his tax returns from previous years and see how much corporate welfare he enjoyed over the years, and his tax shelters in the Swiss and Cayman bank accounts to dodge the taxes we have to pay.His actions may not be illegal but somewhat immorral, like going to a house of ill repute in Nevada.

  • http://personallibertydigest Gottaplenty

Two things that become manifest is Mitt and Obama neither is legaly by the constitution able to run for the office of president because of their fathers not being natural born citizens That is the issue that we must all get behind and force a showdown on whether America enforces its laws or just lets the wannabe,s rewrite it to their likeing…

  • GILLYSROOMS in Australia

Gottaplenty, I think you need to veer off these type topics as it offers no advantage and wastes valuable debating time. It wont be long you will have earth citizens without borders to worry about. The task at hand is getting Dr Ron Paul into office if you republicans are really interested in small government.

  • GILLYSROOMS in Australia

Both Romney and Gingrich should know better,,, thats why they both are not President material. They playing into their Democratic oppositions hands by giving them all their faults to replay over and over again. They are both displaying very poor judgement and certainly not President my opinion.
