Rhetoric About Disaster Abounds

Rhetoric About Disaster Abounds

Following the weather and geological events that surprised residents along the East Coast last week and gave mainstream media a topic to inundate the public with for several days, ideas about links between natural phenomena and humanity are surfacing everywhere.

First, former Vice President, current millionaire, filmmaker and amateur climatologist Al Gore (who also claimed in 1999 that he invented the Internet while in Congress) spoke out on climate change last Friday.

While being interviewed by Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky, Gore linked climate change denial to blatant racism and ignorance, according to Huffington Post. In discussing why environmentalists must win the conversation about global warming, the activist told a story:

I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me. My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, “Whoa! How gross and evil is that?” My generation asked old people, “Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?” And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.

There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, “Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.” That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.

The former Vice President went on to suggest that industrial agriculture and the consumption of meat is to blame for climate change and natural disaster, according to FOX News.

Then, over the weekend, GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann suggested to a group of about 1,000 people in Sarasota, Fla., that God was addressing politicians directly with Hurricane Irene and the earthquake, reported the St. Petersburg Times.

“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending,” said Bachmann.

Analysts at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University have also weighed in, claiming that climate change — whether man-made, created by God or just a naturally occurring global phenomenon — increases the likelihood of civil war conflicts in coastal countries, according to the International Business Times. The theory comes from a study recently published in the science journal Nature.

Vice President Gore is correct about human activity causing upsetting weather, but not for the reasons he states. When a nation makes laws legalizing wickedness, then it is only a matter of time before it brings upon itself the Wrath of God.

    • eddie47d

In 2010 the National Academy of Science stated that there is “a strong credible body of evidence shows that climate change is occurring and is largely by human activities”. 97-98% of all scientific researcher/scientists who have published extensive research believe in some degree of anthropogenic climate change. What about that other 2-3% who are saying that it doesn’t exist. Should they be listened to? Absolutely for all scientific evidence has to be looked at and some of those in the 3% category also have compelling theories.

      • Dale on the left coast

Key wor here eddie is “BELIEVE” . . . I don’t care what they believe . . . what do they “KNOW” . . . what can the prove?
Was there a time when Climate did not change? When was that?
Gorebull Warming is Patent Nonsense . . . Anthropogenic Gorebull Warming is an UNPROVEN Hypothesis.
The earth is much warmer now than it was during the last ice age . . . and much cooler now than it was 1000 years ago when the Vikings lived in Greenland!!! So what’s the big deal.
PS: Name one country in the world that is CLEANER than the USA.

        • eddie47d

          Sweden.

      • Leon Myers

Sorry but the overall (by far greater numbers)climatoligist disagree with Al Gore and his followers. The climate thoughout time has changed and cycled from hor to cold. I hope that one day Mr. Gore will take his head out of his backside, but I don’t it, because he makes millions of dollars spilling his crap!

      • DaveH

I say you’re lying, Eddie, as usual. But maybe you can reference your statement and show us that somebody else is lying and you are just repeating their lie.

        So does this guy:

        • DaveH

There sure must be a lot of scientists out there if 31,487 have signed this petition, and they amount to only 3% of those who take a stand on Homogenic Global Warming:

      • DaveH

For those of you who don’t know Eddie has no credibility, watch this:

    • wandamurline

Absolutely, these are warning shots across the bow from our Lord. It is “you ain’t seen nothing yet” scenario. When Bloomberg decided that we could not have prayers at the 9/11 anniversary, and when Obama stated we are not a Judeo-Christian nation anymore and took the side of Palestine against Israel, they both crossed the lines. Look at the tropics…there is another one coming this way that will make Irene look like a rain shower (which it was….in Texas, we are used to Katrina, Rita and Ike). This one seems to be headed where? Well, the same area that just got hit. Our country had better fall on their knees and pray for forgiveness and give up their wickedness….this is just the beginning and it has nothing to do with global warming. Gore is set to lose billions of dollars if he can’t get global warming accepted with his Carbon Tax Credits….that is the only reason he is still in the show.

      • http://BobLivingston Sheldon

You said it very well. I too believe we have only seen the beginning of the end. The wrath of God does not come until later. God have mercy on us.

      AMEN

    • Christin

      oldbill,

      You got that right!

“You will her of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is stil to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

      Matthew 24 6-8

“… and you will be hated by all nations because of me [Jesus]. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm will be saved. … and then the end will come.”

      Matthew 24 9-13

  • Mikel

To me the entire points being discussed concerning Global Warming and the war conservationists say they are in to make people believe in it is a rediculous waste of time. Every time they start spouting the rhetoric “its the worst its been since…” whatever. We are setting records set back in the 1920′s 1890′s who cares… we have only been keeping concise and accurate weather records since 1878… 133 years. Wow! Now thats a truly significant representation of planetary weather history isn’t it? Kind of like a CNN Poll where they poll 1000 people, 400 from Berkley, 400 from UCLA and 200 “random blind calls” of the Los Angeles area and then show the country a heavily left leaning opinion on some political point. It’s a real mystery isn’t it? The point I get from all of this is we are supposedly setting records from 100 years ago… meaning that 100 years ago we were dealing with what we are dealing with now. Thats because weather patterns such as this are cyclic and are caused by cosmic circumstances in conjunction with a massive global engine which we neither affect or control.

They want to shove this notion about how man is causing global warming… pretty arrogant point of view in my opinion. Mount St. Helens poured more green house gases into the atmosphere in one giant belch than man has contributed since his first flatuation. Do we have global warming? Yes we do… so does Mars by the way… are we causing that too? Thats because weather patterns such as this are cyclic and are caused by cosmic circumstances in conjunction with a massive global engine which we neither affect or control.

The next notion they want to shove down our throats is they believe we can turn it around. Another arrogant point of view. Should we do more to protect our planet and natural resources? Absolutely! It is irresponsible of us to do many of the things we do on our increasingly shrinking planet. Will we turn global warming around? No! Not up to us. Thats because weather patterns such as this are cyclic and are caused by cosmic circumstances in conjunction with a massive global engine which we neither affect or control.

The global warming debate is strictly a politically driven scare tactic designed to instill fear and control thinking. Al Gore is the last person on earth anyone should listen to when it comes to global conservation. Has anyone seen the ecological footprint this elitist imposes on his little kingdom? And you want this man to be your ecological moral compass? Just shows you there are a lot of dumb, clueless sheep in this country that thrive on the ideology of bumper stickers and special interest politicians.

Lastly, are these events God’s way of getting our attention? It is funny how people think when we have a Katrina or an earthquake or some other cataclysmic event that kills a few people that it is God showing His wrath, but when it happens in Indonesia and kills 175,000 people, mostly Muslims, then it is just an unfortunate weather event and has nothing to do with God. If God wants your attention He can do a lot more than Hurricane IRENE or a 5.8 earthquake on the east coast.

Quit listening to idiots and try thinking for yourself.

    • eddie47d

Because Al Gore has a big house and an airplane you say he shouldn’t be listened to? Some of you have been saying that about “tree huggers” for years who live in cabins, live off the land and live humbly. So it’s not about Al Gore you just can’t stand anyone rich or poor who challenges the degrading of our environment. They are “the enemy” no matter what you say even though you say that the environment should be protected. So which is it?

      • Dale on the left coast

No eddie . . . its because Al Bore is a Clueless Moron . . . and to think think this clown came within a few votes of the highest office in the land!!!
Would he have been better than the current occupant? I would suggest it would probably be a TIE!!!

        • eddie47d

Al “Bore” isn’t any more clueless than your comments.

How is that legal? You know they mentioned a solar company in calif.that he had interest in,I wonder if the one that went belly up because they got a grant and he didn’t had any thing to do with it?

    • wandamurline

Don’t forget the eruption in Iceland last year…it wiped out all our carbon foot savings for the last ten years.

  • Jim

The only way GOD could get their attention, is to completely LEVEL all the Capital building while ALL of congress is in session.
    One can only dream …

    • Gary

Yeah, that’s about the size of it, somewhat like the old joke.
“I have good news and bad news. The good news is that an airliner half full of politicians went down in the Pacific. The bad news is that is was only half full.”

Sooner or later the American people are going to wise up and realize that the people that take an Oath of Office haven’t been keeping their Oath to Protect the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Rather sad that most of the domestic enemies are the very people sworn to protect and uphold the Document.

      • 45caliber

I like the joke – lol.

      • r.p.

You know what the voter said when he heard the plane went down? “It’s a start in the right direction”.

  • Ellen

I’ve read several articles by scientists who have proof that global warming stopped 10 years ago. Since that time, the northern hemisphere has continued to get warmer and the southern hemisphere has been getting cooler. It was not well published that global warming scientists had thermometers removed that showed cooling and now only refer to the ones that show warming. Two weeks ago, New Zealand had hostorical snowfall unlike anything on their recorded history. Of course, because they are in the southern hemisphere where the earth is cooling, mainstream media didn’t address it. South Africa and Chile have also had more snow this year but, again, it goes unreported. We should be able to trust science and scientists, but we have too many people who put their reputations on the line when we were in a warming phase and they need to perpetuate the man-made global warming theory for their egos. So, they remove thermometers and manipulate data to prove their theory.

    • eddie47d

Warming air in the atmosphere whether in the Southern Hemisphere or Northern Hemisphere will produce more moisture when it rains or snows. Such as in Chile or in our Northeast this year. Global warming can easily trigger colder winters with more snow.So don’t close your minds yet on the matter.

      • 45caliber

        eddie:

Global warming – and cooling – has been going on since the Earth was formed. We are, actually, below normal historically on the average temperature. The AVERAGE world temp has been as much as 15 degrees higher than it is now. I’m not too worried about a half degree or so …

      • Dale on the left coast

eddie . . . relax . . . they made it all up. Fake Computer Modellers, East Anglia Clomate folks controlled the debate. The fraudulent IPCC started by the loonie M. Strong . . . buddy of Soros.
All their prophesies have been 100% WRONG!!!
The surface temperature data got warmer in the 90′s . . . because the Soviet Union shut down and Siberian data was no longer supplied . . . hence artificial data warming.
        Fat Al made 10′s of Millions . . . and now he’s lost his mind . . . LOL

    • wandamurline

I read an article that was talking about global warming and how the icebergs were melting and the polar bears were losing their habitat the other day and that if things didn’t change, most of America would be under water within ten years….had me really going, then I discovered that the article was written in 1929.

      • Dan az

        :)Thats true!

  • Polski

If there is a God, and I think there is (I can’t see how throwing a rock with iron in it into water will produce LOVE BOAT in 50 million years), all of what’s happening is its doing. No concern on its’part. We aren’t important in the scheme of things, and why would God bother with anything to do with us?

  • DROB1776

Al Gore is a gigantic TWIT, it is for sure when he asked about rasism, he did not ask his father who voted against civil rights legislation at every opportunity. As for climate Gore never lets real science or fact get in his way, I for one wish like the dinosaurs he would just fad away or have an asteriod land on him.

    • eddie47d

People change how about you? Are you exactly the same as your father? Which side of racism are you on? Al’s or his father if what you say is true about his father.

      • Song

I don’t know about TWIT DROB1776 but he definitely is a HYPOCRITE of the worst kind. And eddie47d do some research for once, will you? It is true about Al Gore’s father and speaking of the dinosaurs, what pray tell was it that wiped them off the face of the planet eddie? I don’t think it was humans now was it…

        • 45caliber

          SONG:

It was probably aliens who came here hunting a food source that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of reports of UFO’s lately. I wonder if they are hungry again. We aren’t as big as dinosaurs but there are a lot more of us …

        • eddie47d

For a quick answer I believe it was a massive meteor that crashed into the Gulf of Mexico and wrecked havoc on the earth and the dinosaurs along with it.

          • DaveH

That is just one of many theories about the extinction of dinosaurs. Nobody knows for sure.

  • 45caliber

“The former Vice President went on to suggest that industrial agriculture and the consumption of meat is to blame for climate change and natural disaster, according to FOX News.”

In other words, everyone should stop growing – and eating – food since it causes climate change. Therefore if we all starve, there will be no more climate change.

Funny. I happen to remember that we had earthquakes and hurricanes prior to Big Al’s “discovery” of global warming.

And considering his size, perhaps he should start dieting FIRST.

  • paintbrushbright

I would be concerned if an asteroid was streaming toward earth from the outer galaxy and was scheduled to collide with the earth in the year 2035. All humanity would be working for a solution to solve this life threatening event and all resources would be applied in perpetration. I wouldn’t protest paying higher taxes to fund the project. How could we put global warming on a magnitude of the same life threatening disaster? We can’t but the alarmists will tell you different. The earth is not going to suddenly turn to fire and brimstone. Polar bears are not going to drown and New York City in not going under water. If the earth is warming it would take hundreds of years to make the thermometer move more that a couple of degrees. The thousands of years of earths existence has went back and forth with the ice age to a virtual greenhouse. The natural cycle give nature a chance to adapt to the climate and those of us who believe in evolution would give examples of animals shedding their fur for a warmer climate. Of course the higher intelligent human animals will come up with better air conditioning but we seem to have a lesser intelligent human group who follow a man who invented the internet and has a heat fetish.

    • eddie47d

Al Gore never said he invented the Internet in the context he has been accused of. He set up a program for the military where the Internet was first molded and extensively used. That in turn gave way to where it was greatly expanded into commercial use. Which in turn created millions of jobs. He received much praise for setting the Internet in motion and all of us has benefited from it. Give some credit where credit is due. Reagan is given credit for helping the collaspe of the Soviet Union. The Soviets brought their demise on themselves but Reagan is still given the credit. So put it in that context.

      • DaveH

Here are Al Gore’s exact words — “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet”.
        http://usgovinfo.about.com/blgorenet.htm

      • DaveH

Are you completely shameless, Eddie? Anybody who reads the article I linked to can see what you said was purely conjecture — “He set up a program for the military where the Internet was first molded”.

        http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/1999/03/18390

They could power a biomass generator with the stuff that comes out of your mouth, Eddie.

  • CJM

It’s too bad Al Gore checked his brains in the cloak room of the hatrack motel and forgot to retrieve them when he left. Hurricane Irene created no more damage than any other storm of that category; we’ve certainly witnessed worse–even on the East Coast. His global warming analogy to race-related conversations is certainly naive, to say the least. I hardly think that “conversations won” when one considers the fact that the allegedly offended persons of color use the ‘N’ word profusely and prolifically in their daily barrage of verbosity–and even give the ‘N’ word more punch when they attach ‘F—n’ N’ to make their point. So–how is it offensive to anyone when those claiming to be hurt by such words are the worst offenders of all? No, indeed, Al Gore, the only thing in your conversation analogy is the fact that some can claim they have now put non-color persons “in their place;” if what you claim is true, then racism should no longer exist, right?

  • CJM

The media hype over Irene is just that; they are resting for the up-coming elections so they can badger and otherwise malign those who do not agree with the impotent imposter now gracing the Oval Office.

    • eddie47d

My MY now Obama is responsible for the good and the bad surrounding Irene. I say it is CJM’s hot air that caused Hurricane Irene and like himself I don’t need any proof to prove it. My accusation should be good enough.

  • Earl, QUEENS, NY

Just yesterday in a local newspaper (8/30/11 – amNewYork, page 6) we read that Michelle Bachmann said she was only being humorous with her comments. Apparently she suggested that two events (earthquake and Hurricane Irene) within one week were God’s warning to the politicians in Washington, DC. IMHO, there’s no need for apologies or disclaimers by Bachmann. Her recent comment makes far more sense than the drivel we hear from leftists/democraps, who suggest that natural disasters are the fault of GW Bush, the GOP, etc. I find it frustrating that many people believe the democraps’ stupid remarks. Even many kids know better than that!! As for man-made disasters, I’d have to say that perhaps the worst one occurred on 11/4/2008. On that infamous date, you made One Big Awful Mistake America!!

Look at what’s happened in DC over the past several decades. School prayer banned, while the LGBT lifestyle is being defended and promoted – even to kids as young as kindergarten age!! Big government and socialism seem to be a God for drones and liberals/democraps. The environmentalist wackos seem to worship earth and nature as idols. Our first amendment rights to speech and worship are being threatened while legalized abortion kills nearly a million innocent infants each year. And as for class envy, the Democraps want us to hate anyone who has a dollar more than we do …..never mind the fact that so many democraps themselves are rich phonies. Is it not also a sin to covet or envy???? Given Washington DC’s behavior in recent years, it’s probably a miracle that we have yet to see God’s real wrath!!

  • eddie47d

Come on Earl you actually expect a Republican like Bachmann to apologize. She has been making gaffs on a regular basis and writes them off as “trying to be funny”. A natural disaster can’t be blamed on anyone unless you see it coming and refuse to take precautions.Precautions were taken with Irene and few were taken with Katrina. There was another earthquake near Washington in 1886 with a magnitude of 7.3 The Epicenter was closer to Charleston SC and 60 people were killed. I wonder how many folks back then blamed it on God or the President back then. As someone mentioned earlier a meteor will hit the earth in 2035 and there is some credible evidence of that. Will that be the new doomsday date for all of us or is 2012 still the end of the world?
