Return To The City On A Hill

November 2, 2010 by

Return To The City On A Hill

My Fellow Americans:

Today we will exercise one of the most fundamental of the freedoms granted us by the greatest assemblage of intellect in human history. Today, thanks to the foresight and forbearance of our Founding Fathers, we rise together to choose the path we shall collectively — and individually —  follow into the future.

In the largest cities and the smallest villages, we will stride confidently into our polling places and offer our electoral endorsements to those whom we deem worthy to do our bidding as our proxies in city council chambers, State legislatures, Governor’s mansions and the Nation’s capital.

Despite the increasingly shrill calls from the left for a halt to the intellectual and industrial progress which has fueled this magnificent Nation’s greatness for nearly two and a half centuries, today we can add our voices to the mellifluous chorus of those who have gone before us on behalf of those who will come behind us. We can join hands and call out across the fruited plains:  Do not despair, brothers and sisters of this American family. The greatest days of the greatest Nation the Almighty has ever allowed to grace His green earth lie eternally ahead.

Even the most beloved President was merely a man. Without the blessing of the electorate, his most noteworthy accomplishments would have existed only in his imagination. The finest Senator was simply an aspirant to eminence without a collective nod of the peoples’ heads at the ballot box, consigned to the humdrum routine of daily life. The Governors, State legislators, mayors and even dog catchers who climbed the heights of distinction were faces in the crowd without the acclaim afforded to them by the people whom they served.

Today, amidst the endless line of applicants and also-rans who have spent time and money begging for electoral scraps from the peoples’ table, we have the joy of granting the worthy our assent and barring the unworthy from our corridors of authority. Today, we remind them — at the loftiest moments of their political existence, from city council chambers to the U.S. Senate chamber itself:  The power is ours to lend you. The clout you crave is ours to bestow…or deny. Despite the gripes and groans of those who have lost faith in the American system of government, thus has it always been, and thus should it always be.

I often marvel at those who would sell their vote so casually; whether for cash, for patronage, or empty promises of governmental largesse. The idea of offering up that greatest reminder of personal authority over even the most grotesquely greedy, the most fanatically fatuous and the most stupefying and smug office-seekers for the promise of a potential plum is anathema to me. On this one day, no matter how humble our circumstances, we can tell those who yearn to be our masters: The Obamas, Pelosis, Reids and Rangels — that even in the lofty heights of electoral dominion — WE are the masters of America’s fate, the Captains of the National soul.

Office-seekers: You are ours. You serve us. The mandates you claim, the authority you seek, even the remuneration you may receive is all contingent upon you performing the duties of your employment to our satisfaction.

My fellow Americans: Today we are the hope of the nation. On behalf of those who came before us, many of whom sacrificed their very lives on the altar of American virtue, I urge you to remember the promise of an American future they passed down to you. I urge you, on behalf of those yet to come, to consider the sacred liberty entrusted to us all, and consider which among those who clamor for your ballot is likely to preserve it for future generations.

Under the watchful eyes of your fathers and sons, those who have passed and those yet to present themselves; indeed, under the gaze of Almighty God himself:

And if that soaring requiem for the American Dream didn’t move you, think of it this way:

You might as well vote. Most of the Democrats are going to do it at least twice.

IF voter fraud doesn’t play into this election, the results shall stand that the voters have spoken. And if those who are voted in or reelected don’t listen to the voters, there is always the next election!

    • Kinetic1

I’ll say it again, voter fraud is a straw man used to promote the illegal and/or immoral restriction of legal voters to exercise their rights. The Bush administration spent 5 years investigating and prosecuting voter fraud and they only found about 130 cases to prosecute, 86 of which lead to a conviction. In the mean time politicians like Katherine Harris turn to claims of voter fraud to justify the misuse of election laws to eliminate voters they oppose. In Harris’ case she removed over 57,000 voters from Florida’s voter roster with erroneous claims of prior felony convictions and other “disqualifiers.” Of course they eventually regained the right to vote, but by then the election was over and it was too late to be counted.

      • AstheCrowFlies

Need to bring back the poll tax. 10, 25, and 50 dollars for city, state, and national election voting. Need to have IQ requirements. If the IQ is too low or too high you cannot vote.

Dead should not be allowed to vote.

Career criminals should not be allowed to vote unless they already hold a public office.

Pets should only vote if they are more intelligent than their owners.

Illegal immigrants can vote as soon as they have broken ten laws.

Spelling should not be a test of voter elgibility unless you cannot spell your own name. Then, you get to vote twice if Democrat, none at all otherwise.

Also, need a four party system to make voting more confusing. And, we can have a country like Italy.

Vote early and often. Vote absentive and on election day. Haul in the infirm and mentaly ill to vote. Just vote for them and send them back to the house. ALL drug dealers and users get to vote three times. Once for the taxes they do not pay. Once for the taxes we pay for them. And, once legally so they can say they did something legal for a change. Change, that’s it. Change we need. And a little Hope.

Robin, I agree with you and would like to add a few ideas. To my mind the greatest problem with Congress is the extended terms of the members. Some have been there thirty years or more. I believe that, after they have been there for a while they stop representing those who sent them there and begin to represent the Congress and the national government. I long ago quit watching C-SPAN because I came to realize that those who spoke were actually play acting (i.e. lying) for the home folks to ensure their return to Washton (as they pronounce it) and the decisions on all the bills had already been made in their committee rooms. How many bills are defeated never to be brought back? They return with a new name and number, plus a bunch of added features that add to the cost of the bill.
The only solution I see is term limits by the voters giving them only one term.

Watch this very short video…regarding how Franken won the Senate seat in Minnesota in 2008. Here’s his formula:add together…
      1) Lawyers
      2) Big Labor
      3) Left-Wing Shadow organizations
      4) Illegal votes by convicted felons.

  • David

Step 1, elect tea party members. Step 2 inform the Rinos like Graham, they had better conform or they will be removed in 2012 with obummer.

2013 take back America for good and push progressives back to the UK.

    • AstheCrowFlies

      Good plan.

    • DaveH

The RINOs had their chance. Remove them from office. No second chances.

      • Denniso

And just who decides what politicians are RINO’S? You,in all your libertarian glory and knowledge???

  • Cecilio

Unfortunately, I am one of those non-voters-by-law. I live in Puerto Rico and have no power to cast my vote today. Or any other day in the mainland. Nevertheless, I do recognize that America is under a relentless attack from those who would like to kill our way of life, our government system and our fundamental faith. Democracy is government by majority. But, in America, that majority has kept it’s silence for too long. To those I say: stop whining and complaining. Go out and cast your vote! O prepare to lose that opportunity slowly but surely.

    • Al Sieber

Cecilio, we are not a democracy ruled by the majority, we’re a constitutional republic with a bill of rights and elected officials who are suppose to represent us and protect our rights, so far they’re doing a bad job. they all need to go.

      • Bud Bruce

Mr Seiber is right. My policy is never vote FOR an incumbent (unless, of course, all his oponents are far worse than the incumbent [which is too frequently the case, thereby keeping the bad in office.]) Thus we end up with politicians in power, not statesmen concerned with the future of our children and grand children and republic.

        • Al Sieber

Mr Bruce, you are correct, good luck to all of you who want to save the Republic.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            Al Sieber,
Our polls opened at 6:30 this morning and as usual I was there at 6:45! Also, as usual I had to show my drivers licence to vote. I watched them turn a lady away and she had to go to her car to retrieve her licence in order to vote!! I don’t know if this is just our city or state of Ohio but I have had to show it for 20 years! I don’t know why they keep telling Arizona that they can’t require it and don’t tell Ohio they can’t !!

          • libertytrain

JoeH – when I voted early last week all I had to do was tell them my name and address. I wish they’d at least ask for a driver’s license. This was in Western North Carolina -

          • Al Sieber

Joe H, theres a lot of heavy $hit coming down in Ariz. and other border states. if you don’t live in the rural areas it’s hard to understand. when you have illegals coming through your property day and night something is bound to happen. I have helicopters flying around all night spot lights all over the mountains.

          • Al Sieber

Joe H, I had to show ID, I screw up my mail in ballot so I had to go to town to vote, the guys that work with me didn’t want to vote, so I convinced them to vote an took the day off. we have a large illegal alien population in AZ., and I don’t know why they don’t ID them, but everyone else has to.

        • David

Too bad the dorks in Barney Frank’s district are too stupid to realize what he has done and will continue to do to them…..

          • DaveH

They’re not dorks, David, they are thieves. They want to take the easy road, as all thieves do, and live on other peoples’ money.

          • David

That time has come and gone. Unions spent more on these elections than the US Chamber….wow didn’t hear that on the evening news. They must be really worried about something hummm……

          • Denniso

Unions and working people are worried about the corporations regaining power through their surrogates, the Republican party, and big business controlling the gov’t and our working lives like they’ve done in the past.

          • http://naver sook young

Denniso, today I voted for the first time as an American. I understand what you mean by the government being controlled by some outside entity, but isn’t Obama influenced by Wall Street individuals, radicals, and other shadow people that we don’t know about? Let’s hope the ones we voted for get this country back to the ways it was founded. If we can get back to doing that, then they will be no outside entity in control of our country. I pray that God will have us win and straighten out this country. Thank you.

          • Denniso

Congratulations on voting for the first time in our country…great!
But maybe in time you will learn the simple fact that the Repub party is essentially the party of big business…even their stand on gun rights is essentially designed to benefit gun and ammo makers, nothing more. They are comfortable in their support for big biz while watching the huge income gap between working people and the wealthy continue to grow. Good luck…

          • http://naver sook young

I understand what you are saying Denniso, but any politician can be controlled by an outside entity. Obama seems to be controlled by not just what I’ve said before, but also by his muslim faith which goes against everything this country stands for and our Christian founding. It is true that the gap between rich and poor is widening, but it has been continuing for many years no matter the party in power. I do know that all Americans are not destined to be rich, many are the average working American like my household, but for someone to say “close the gap all the way” would be an impossible task. The poor need more education and job experience to earn more money, but not at the government’s expense. We were founded on the belief of limited government, so the government funding these programs would be unconstitutional and therefore, illegal. It’s been proven that the more education you get, the more money you earn. The rich do give some of their money to helping the poor through charities, church, and other groups, but this can only go so far. Thank you.

            Sook Young
            Wife of the Samurai

P.S. All the people I voted for yesterday won their election! I’m very happy! I hope some real “change” comes to this country soon.

          • http://?? Joe H.

just as bad are the ones in dirty Harry reids area of screw-over!!! How the hell did those people vote him back in?!?!?!?!?!

          • Denniso

As JoeH remembers,I said that Reid would beat Angle…thank you God. Angle won’t be back, adios dear.

          • http://naver samurai

Denniso, why would you be thanking God for someone who cares nothing about this country, the people, or the direction it is going? Gee, I guess you really don’t care about our founding principles of self reliance, personal responsibility, and limited government. The days of the hand outs are over. Let’s see how long it takes before Obama bin Laden care is overturned, cap and trade gone, U.N. Small Arms Treaty gone, etc. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

          • Denniso

‘thank you God’ was just a little humor that you didn’t get….

    • Winnie Finbar

We WERE not a democracy. Our country was founded as a REPUBLIC. Every country that was a democracy fell. Look at Rome. It fell in sexual decay and a democracy. Those who will not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.

      • Robert Bradfield

Hi, it is that South African again. Every form of government, whether it is a Republic or Democracy depends on people one trust to represent one’s objectives for freedom, fairness, development, or whatever other objective to be had. The problem the world over, and I think also in the US is that we do not realize that the only time that we have a say (“democracy”) is the five or ten seconds in the voting booth. It seems that nobody, even if they vote, really consider their vote as that important. After the close of voting and the euphoria of the moment we are again ruled by a minority, the elected representatives, which may be altruistic or self-centered. I would imagine that the only way in which things might change is if no public representative is paid a salary because they feel themselves that they serve the greater cause. I wonder how many people will then volunteer to become, in your context, senators, governors, congressmen or for that matter the President.

If I say this it also includes most other countries in the world, especially my own.

        • Tom from Idaho

Robert, Your message is right on, except: Here in the United States of America, our elected officials do not “rule”, rather they SERVE us, we the people (at their own peril!) and; the “unpaid volunteer” suggestion is well intended but that leaves things open to what is called unintended consequence, that is that they are then left open to being bought off by special interests; probably worse so than they are now – - which is pretty bad at the moment. Thank you for your support of us, however. Thank you for the positive input!

Yes, God Bless America!! PLEASE, PLEASE VOTE TODAY, AMERICA!!

        • Robert S

Robert Unfortunately DeKlerk sold out to the Communists led by our own Henry Kissinger.

          • AstheCrowFlies

Kiss is a very greasy man. He also spins in the polical winds to keep his own air fresh. The liberals want him on trial for his dirty roles in the overthrow of governments. I think he should be at least rode on a rail for some of his deals in the middle east that were counter to his own country.

I would not go to him for advice. He is very intelligent and works only for Kiss INC.

          • Robert Bradfield

Hi, it is me again. Tom and Robert thanks for your messages. I am of the opinion that no people should be governed by paid representatives. Practically it is never going to work and I accept that. The problem I see is that one can only get rid of the dead wood, or the incompetent, in your case, very second year. In many cases countries are stuck with these politicians for five or more years, sometimes for life. Your country and the political processes are something to strive for, but even in your case voters do make mistakes because they do not realize how important it is to have themselves heard.

I do not know whether one will ever solve voter ignorance but one can only try. About our country, there are many people that feel that we were sold down the river. We have to live with that and try and make the best of it. Long live the USA and could I add the RSA.

        • DaveH

If we don’t pay them, Robert, it would be even more likely that they would seek help from those in society that would buy power with under-the-table money or other forms of bribery.

          • Kate8

DaveH – But they do that anyway! In fact, they are in perfect positions to get rich from taking bribes and payoffs. And they do.

I want a job like that (sarc), where I can tell my employer how much he has to pay me, and give myself hefty raises even as my employer is bankrupt. They have to be without conscience to sleep at night. That alone says alot.

I sure hope we do better this time. We’ll see.

  • Warrior

Well done Ben. A one man standing ovation. This reminds me of Independence Day.

  • barbm

obama was God’s greatest gift to america. if not for his election, we the people would still be asleep at the wheel. don’t blame just the reps and dems, we MUST accept a lot of the blame for the mess our country is in. we have not risen up in mighty protest since the viet nam war. we have sat in front of our tv sets letting the politicians run our great nation into the ground. we can’t go back to sleep after this election. we have to start working on the 2012 one. and we sure need to start protesing the way the media has supported the broken 2-party system. texas has a great choice for governor in kathie glass of the libertarian party, but nobody i’ve spoken to even knows there are 4 candidates on the ballot. too many good people have not had a chance because of the media. and they wonder why newspapers are going bankrupt.

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

barbm…. I agree. My hope is that we will not have to settle for the lesser of two evils the next presidential election. I prayed for months before the election about who would win. I believe God allowed our country to get to this point to wake us up out of the coma we have been in for so long. And, you are right…. we cannot fall back asleep, but we must maintain the level of intensity we have right now to demand that we get politicians in office that have morals, standards, and ethics. Those who think they are above the law need to go and we cannot depend on MSM to do their job, so we will have to continue to look for competent sources to find accurate and factual information. We cannot go on as before!

      • http://naver samurai

100% agree with you fellow patriot and hoosier! We’ve already voted this morning (Sook Young and I) and we hope the ones we voted for win the day. I too would like to see this country get back to the ways of our Christian founding fathers. Back to the ways of self reliance, personal responsibility, and smaller government. I will not stop fighting for this country as long as there is at least one moron in office that shouldn’t be there. This means fighting for the next two years against this administration, so be it. If I ran a quote by Obama bin Laden, I don’t think he would meet the criteria for our freedom.

“It is religion and morality alone, which we can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.”

        John Adams
        2nd U.S. President

We have to keep up the good fight, fellow patriots! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

      • http://?? Joe H.

In addition we need to assure that we don’t aim our protests at our troops like they did during VietNam!!! A good number of our troops died because of what was said about them here in the states. A moments hesitation due to doubt or any other reason can be the moment that kills them!!

        • http://naver samurai

100% agree, fellow patriot! I was infantry and believe me, you couldn’t afford to hesitate at any time. What is said back here does effect battle performance. Let’s welcome our troops home like the heroes they are. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

Europe is a nice place to visit but I would’nt want to live there..however..this current administration has done everything they could to replace the American way with failed European style policies that simply won’t work over here.Their contempt for the nation and all that this great country stands for will be their downfall. Many of us may be of European descent..but we’re exactly that for a reason..because our ancestors fled from the very same oppressive and restrictive as well as intrusive form of govt. the so called Obama led Democrats want to force upon us.We are not Europe,we are the United States of America now and always…anyone who associates themselves with the Democratic party might want to reclaim what your party once represented…Americans for America…unfortunately your party has turned red..the hammer and the sickle won’t work here.

The democratic party and a vast number of the republican party are an evil empire. They are for EVERYTHING that God is against, abortion, homosexuality, pornography, and on and on. This morning I voted for governor of NY, but, to not vote for the democrat I had to vote for a porno sleeze. Years ago I read a book titled “A CHOICE NOT AN EHCO”. Fro many years we have had to vote for the lesser of the evils when they’re both evil. I’m sick of it. Why can’t the Republicans and Conservatives put up anyone decent? You know, years ago when our country was young only property owners could vote (because they had the most to lose by not voting right) and Mostly Christians occupied seats of government. Now look what we have. God can’t even be mentioned in public and He’s been expelled from our schools. But, God bless America. Do you really think that God can bless America in the condition it is in? He’d have to go against His word and He can’t do that. Neither can He bless America in the wicked condition it is in.

        Didn’t they have an independent???

      • http://none Mike

Winnie, I understand your frustration but lets put it this way there was only one perfect man to ever grace this world he was Jesus Criste. Men no matter who they are will never be able to live up to this example. No matter who we are we all have faults. When the people came out to stone the adultress Jesus told them that he who was without sin be the first to cast a stone. So lets try to set the bar as high as we can but lets not look for perfection because it dosent exist here on this earth. Mike L.

If they can’t field a candidate desirable to you then withhold your vote. When you vote for somebody you don’t like, you are enabling their bad behavior.

      • barbm

winni, God is still in our schools. that’s your job as a parent to make sure of that. just because they can’t have an organized prayer doesn’t mean they can’t pray – teachers, administrators, and children. i know my son prays every time he has to take a test. :)

        • Kate8

barbm – no God in California schools. In fact, they are controlled by the gay agenda, sexualizing grammar school kids.

We tightened our belts even more to send my grandson to private school. It’s worth every cent, even though the state is trying to control even the private school curricula.

All of you in states where you still have relative choice over your kis, pay attention to California, because this is what is planned for you as well, unless we can oust the Progressives.

I Voted and feel real good and Patriotic about the process, thank God we have a voice in his thing. Then I hear on the radio coming in that in Chicago the Democrats have a $1M fund for street spending for Election Day, to do whatever is necessary to insure Obama’s old Senate seat is kept in Democrats hands. So what do you think this is for? I believe this is another desperate attempt, we the silent majority will overwhelm the system today and none of this will matter, VOTE!

The pen is mightier than the sword!!___VOTE_VOTE_VOTE!!_PEOPLE!!___I say this at the risk of sounding like a female Paul Revere calling all patriots to arms against the british. ___We have yet another chance to turn America around, the skeptical side of me prays for at least a balance of power, while the positive side hopes the Conservatives in this Country gather together, as individuals to form a powerful union, to wrangle and hog tie the b*stards, who brought us to this brink of near ruin._Changes won’t be overnight, but we won’t be sleeping anylonger, while the “real enemy” quietly attempts to steal away our Liberties & Freedoms.__This Country was founded on Godly principle, if we fall, it will be ONLY by his hand. May it be his will That if “God stands before us, who can be against us!

Hey,,,hey,,,Angel,,,go girl and may many others follow your lead,,,,,

Always keep the marxist muslim moron comment that we are the enemies. Did anyone hear any democrat speak up, that we aren’t the enemies, or did NMCDP tell the purple lipped dork to knock it off no. Because the dems are and always have wanted total government control and a dictatorship. They will never change or from beleiving in everyone making the same amount no matter what you do in life.

And here is why his friends will also have to go with him.

      By Moe Lane

What a title: “Grim Democrats await huge House losses.”

Not nearly as much as we are, of course: but they’re frantically counting up their likely losses, and forecasting fifty to seventy (which means, obviously, that we need to increase that to seventy to ninety).

At this point, the consensus seems to be among a variety of remaining-nameless professional Democrats that everyone in the House within the margin of error is going to lose to the Republican nominee.

These people are on the verge of watching a large percentage of their client list – and in many cases, friends and members of their social circle – be thrown out of work right in the middle of one of the most toxic employment environments in recent history. And they’ve been fighting it for a year and nothing worked.

Now, some of you (more of you, I suspect, than are willing to admit it) read the paragraph above and then started to feel … pity. Or empathy, because it happened to you in 2006 and 2008. Or merely a natural desire to not kick someone when they are down. And those are laudable impulses to have.

But before you act on those impulses with regard to these professional Democrats, please remember this:

These people told their clients to say that you hate African-Americans.
These people told their clients to say that you hate Latinos.
These people told their clients to say that you hate gays.
These people told their clients to say that you hate women.
These people told their clients to say that you hate Jews.
These people told their clients to say that you hate Muslims.
These people told their clients to say that you hate the poor.
These people told their clients to say that you hate America.

      Shall I continue?

These people told their clients to say that you were fascists.
These people told their clients to say that you were theocrats.
These people told their clients to say that you were stupid.
These people told their clients to say that you were uneducated.
These people told their clients to say that you were hatemongers.
These people told their clients to say that you were insane.
These people told their clients to say that you were violent extremists.

I can keep this going for quite a while, you know.

These people told their clients to call you unpatriotic.
These people told their clients to call you cowards.
These people told their clients to mock you at every opportunity.
These people told their clients to deliberately use a sexual slur when referring to you.
These people told their clients to trivialize and dismiss your concerns at every opportunity.

And now these professional Democrats are sad because they’re going to lose.

Well, they deserve to lose, because they are bad people and because the entire point of the United States of America is to make sure that bad people lose.

So GO VOTE today and make as many bad people as possible lose.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Our Father which art in heaven,
    Hallowed be thy name,
    Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our debts,
    as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil:
    For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
    for ever. Amen.

      • Angel Wannabe

Small town here too kimM, but the numbers are up!

  • s c

Vote, people. Act while you can. ‘Forgive and forget’ DO NOT apply to politicians. Think about forgiving and forgetting AFTER the toilets have been flushed.
Career politicians have it too easy, and they know from experience that most Americans have a short memory. Prove to them that they’re a clear and present danger to America. Vote the bastards OUT!

  • Palin12

Angle to Reid: “Man up, Harry Reid”

  • Ram

Very few Americans realize this (quiz your children!), but we didn’t always vote for our U.S. senators.

Under our Constitution as originally ratified, senators were appointed by the state legislatures. The idea was that the members of the Ho…use of Representatives would represent the people of the United States, and the senators would represent the interests of the state governments.

In 1913 the Seventeenth Amendment changed all that. From that point on, senators were elected by the people.

Things have been pretty much going downhill ever since.

The principal problem with the Seventeenth Amendment is that it leaves our states with no official representation in Washington.

Our Founding Fathers clearly felt that most governance should be at the local level. Today, we’ve failed at that goal. With no official representation inside the Beltway, the state governments have no real ability to help restrain the flow of government power from the local to the national level.

The repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment would help correct this imbalance, vastly strengthening the state governments’ hand in Washington. In that sense power would begin to shift from the federal level to the state level, bringing us closer to the system of semi-sovereign states that was envisioned by our founders.

    • http://none Mike

Also The president was never an elected office as well Ram. He was appointed by the congress. Just a fact I thought I might add there

  • chuck b

all of us conservatives should write a thank you to karl rove for his remarks he made about christine o’donnell after she beat his buddy mike castle in the primary election. this no doubt helped her opponent and garanteed her loss.
the republican party needs to shed some of these rino’s.

  • chuck b

    • Denniso

Yep, purge your party some more. Get rid of Rove since he was one of the few to speak what most sane people knew, that O’Donnell was toast even before the election. He didn’t cause her loss, her stupid statements caught up w/ her. But hey, I’m just a know nothing liberal,so don’t listen to me or Rove…kick his ass out.

      • http://naver samurai

You mean like the way we purged many cowards and traitors from their jobs on Tuesday? Just think Denniso, Obama bin Laden will never be more than a one term president. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • http://?? Joe H.

Now why you wanna make dennislobber cry like that for????

          • Denniso

Sure, Palin picked winners at just less than 50/50…you realize that is no better than chance?

Angle is done and gone,O’Donnell is toast, and the 160 million dollar woman, Meg Whitman will slink back to her mansion, just $160 million poorer. Joe Miller is about to eat it as well. The great buffoon,Palladino in NY…dead meat.
