Research Finds Beneficial Compounds In Pure Maple Syrup

Study finds pure maple syrup contains antioxidants that are beneficial for healthNew research suggests that pouring pure maple syrup on your next order of pancakes will do much more than just give you a sugar high.

University of Rhode Island researcher Navindra Seeram, who specializes in medicinal plant research, has found more than 20 compounds in maple syrup from Canada that have been linked to human health, 13 of which are newly discovered in maple syrup.

During his maple syrup research, Seeram and his research team found phenolics, the beneficial class of antioxidant compounds also found in berries. These antioxidants are known to have anti-cancer, anti-bacterial and anti-diabetic properties.

“We know that plants must have strong antioxidant mechanisms because they are in the sun throughout their lives,” Seeram said. “We already know that berries, because of their bright colors, are high in anti-oxidants. Now we are looking at maple syrup, which comes from the sap located just inside the bark, which is constantly exposed to the sun.”

Previous research has found that maple syrup is full of naturally occurring minerals such as zinc, thiamine and calcium.

“Maple syrup is unique in that it is the only commercial product in our diet that comes from a plant’s sap. Canada is the biggest producer of maple syrup and the U.S. is the biggest consumer,” Seeram said.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19682759-ADNFCR

    yes, but maple syrup also contains wild chemicals such as high fructose corn syrup and preservatives. EE makes sure there are plenty of bad stuffs in healthy foods.

      Real maple syrup does not contain high fructose corn syrup. If you are referring to products such as Aunt Jemima or Eggo Brand, then yes, these faux syrups do contain plenty of HFCS, but they are not pure maple syrup products. The only syrup we found on the shelf that did not contain HFCS was Log Cabin syrup. My husband does not like real maple syrup as he is accustomed to the fake (faux) stuff made from corn syrup, sugar, water, caramel color, and artificial flavor, often with 2% or less of real maple syrup added. I like the real kind.
      There is a definitive difference between regular corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup on one’s health, but both come from GM corn unless marked “organic” and I do not think there is any organic HFCS.
      Real maple syrup comes from the sap of the sugar maple tree that is boiled down in large vats to make a thick syrup. It is unadulterated with other products and is a pure product when labeled as pure. This is the kind of syrup that this article is discussing, not the faux syrups on the shelves of your local grocer, though you can find pure maple syrup next to the faux syrups.

    Not if you get the real deal, I get it fresh from a family from Maine, theres nothing but fresh in the bottle.

    As well this type of sugar cancer can’t use. How cool is that?

    Yes pure maple syrup is not only a real delight but also very good for you. Make sure that you buy the real stuff not the one mixed with corn and God knows what. It takes an average of 200 gallons of sap to make one gallon of pure syrup. You can buy it at Cosco under the name Kirkland. This one is from Quebec and has a light color but it’s pure and very good. The state of Maine also manufactures some as well and it’s also very good. Darker the color better it is for your health. This stuff is full of vitamins and anti oxidants.

    Do yourselves a big favor, and DO NOT buy anything that says USDA Organic on the label. It matters not if it’s cereal, veggies, fruit or maple syrup.
    The government can’t be trusted to make sure that QUALITY comes first. The government’s ‘organic’ label is intended to confuse consumers and generate
    easy money for their ‘pals.’ I’m surprised they don’t yet put ‘organic’ on prescription drug containers.
    There are independent labs that can tell you whether or not what you want to buy is a quality item. Uncle Scam is in bed with so many low-lifes that he’ll put money over lives any day of the week. It is unfortunate that we still have many Americans who haven’t learned that lesson. It’s YOUR health, people. Uncle Scam is BAD for your health.

    I buy from a local farmer who has a “sugar shack” and boils down his own syrup. It is a rich, dark, amber syrup with a fine flavor without additives. He said it takes about 30 gallons of sap cooked down to make 1 gallon of syrup. His family has been “sugaring” for over a century on their farm. It is great stuff.
    We do not buy foods with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in them. You have to become an avid label reader, but it is well worth it.
    I live in Ohio and it is not hard to find pure maple syrup made in Ohio, Vermont, Maine, or Canada that is sold in various stores. I bought directly from the farmer and still paid a goodly amount ($56.00 for 1 gallon), but it is much cheaper than buying from the grocery and I know the quality. I also know the health benefits.
    I’ve gone natural and locally grown as much as possible. This helps our health and our economy.

    read the booklet ‘The Master Cleanser’ by Stanley Burroughs…it explains about healing and fasting with lemon-juice and Maple Syrup…
    he explains that some maple operators use formaldehyde pellets, run through polyethylene tubing…Coombs Family Farms and Spring Tree of Brattleboro, Vermont don’t use it…he also explains that honey, being pre-digested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal…etc…therefore he recommends maple syrup…Grade ‘B’ …go and buy the book and start a fast to clean out your system…

    Thanks, Lore. I am anxious to get the book, The Master Cleanser. Sounds very interesting. We can never know to much about de-toxing and keeping our machines cleaned from all the junk. Reading labels is a must. Thanks again.

    Yes de-toxing is important and then it is extremely important what we put back into our bodies. The alkaline/acidity level needs to be balanced. We must eat foods with alkaline components and stay away from too much acidity. However, we do that is very important. Some foods should not be eaten together, but can be eaten separately. All foods can be eaten, just not all of them with each other. It makes a difference what you eat with what!

    In fact, strangely enough lalthough most citric fruit is acidic,lemons ARE NOT and that is probably why the Master Cleanse (with lemons) works
