WASHINGTON (UPI) — A spokeswoman for Representative Sean Duffy(R-Wis.) said he was unharmed in an apparent assault by “a random individual” on Capitol Hill.
Citing sources it did not identify, Roll Call reported the Wednesday evening assault may have resulted from frustration over the Federal government shutdown that occurred when Congress failed to pass legislation funding government operations.
U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said the agency was investigating an assault on a member of Congress in the Longworth House Office Building.
“A random individual, unknown to the Congressman, began screaming at him and grabbed his arm,” Duffy spokeswoman Cassie Smedile said in a statement Thursday. “Mr. Duffy was unharmed. He reported the incident in compliance with House security procedures. Congressman Duffy has requested no further action be taken and there will be no further comment on the matter at this time.”
