Representative Mark Souder Admits To Having An Affair, Resigns

May 21, 2010 by

Representative Mark Souder admits to having an affair, resigns Representative Mark Souder (R-Ind.) announced his resignation on Tuesday after admitting having an extramarital affair with a part-time female staffer.

The eight-term congressman—a conservative Christian who often preached family values—recently survived a contentious primary election where he garnered less than 50 percent of the vote.

Souder was mysteriously absent from Washington for the last two weeks while rumors of his alleged affair began to surface. The congressman had claimed to be home attending to his ill wife while missing several key votes in House, Fox News reports.

"I wish I could have been a better example," said Souder. "In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process."

With Souder’s resignation, the GOP may be at a greater risk of losing the seat to a Democratic challenger. A spokeswoman for Indiana Republican Governor Mitch Daniels said that a special election will be held in the next 30 days to select a Republican candidate, according to The Associated Press (AP).

The winner of the election will move on to face Fort Wayne, Ind., city council member Tom Hayhurst, who nearly beat out Souder in the 2006.

Lol…. Not much to add here….just that you should never trust anyone that needs to make a point of repeating how moral they are… And that’s exactly what he did…Brings to mind Tim Haggard and a few others…I’m always Leary of the People using terms like ” the Christian view”.. That’s usually a set up…

unAmLib, did you . . . . and the ultraliberal . . . progressive below fail the same . . . . remedial English classes? Either you and he are the same yahoo, or your programmer needs remedial English himself. No wonder you yahoos can’t communicate.
By the way, Leary is properly spelled leery. It is not capitalized. And ‘People’ (the way you used it), should not be capitalized.
While you’re at it, explain to the world how losers like Baaney, Ted, Dodd and Bubba are anybody’s role models – ESPECIALLY when it comes to morality. Thank God, only one of those losers was a prez.

      • Jim H.

SC, How does advising people who claim to hold the higher moral ground to live up to it, so your opponent can’t use it against you. Or pointing out that the people who don’t profess to have those morals(Baaney, Ted, Bubba, Dodd), don’t get called on it, make me a progressive liberal? I would think if you read anything else I’ve posted you would know better.

        • s c

JimH, please re-read my comments and take them in context. Nowhere have I aimed my remarks at you, except for this feedback. I rarely say anything less than positive about conservatives. Progressives are another matter.

          • Jim H.

SC, I guess when I saw the comment to Am Lib, “did you…and the ultraliberal…progressive below fail the same… remedial English class” with my post below his I made the wrong assumption. We all know what happens when we ass-u-me. My mistake.

      • American liberal

Sc.. Really.. You started your rant with a mistake..but I won’t even go into the other mistakes you made with grammer and spelling…I only worry about my message… You have none.. Except stupidity…

        • libertytrain

American liberal – you really need to stop pointing out spelling mistakes until you learn how to do it yourself – grammar —-

I don’t see you ever criticized Jeffh,DaveH,or JoeH even when they are extremely rude to people, names like Coalscabber,Eyes Shut and other derogatories, you kept silent when Jeffh went as far calling Eyes a word meant for a female dog. When these cretins are rude to me,I return the favor, they can’t stand being proven wrong,so they resorts to all kinds of vicious attacks and when they do, I counterpunch. So the story goes, the right outnumbered the left in name calling.

          • libertytrain

I believe if you asked jeff or joe, not dave – I don’t recall saying anything negative to him – anyway the other two, and a few others could indeed tell you I have mentioned a word or two to them when, in my opinion, they went too far… – and please know that I do enjoy many of Jeff’s posts very much, and many of the others.

          • libertytrain

And remember, I don’t point out spelling or grammar errors (I think it’s plain silly to do that on either side) except – when necessary to make a point and a point was made.

        S C,

Communicating with your kind is like man trying to converse with a orangutan or a baboon. You don’t get it,liberals out number the nutty right on writing best selling books and advances in scientific discoveries.Only one on the right who wrote a best seller, was none other than Adolf Hitler. So don’t put American Liberal down, look in your own back yard.… · Cached page

Those LUCKY libs, they don’t profess to have any morals, so they aren’t encumbered by them. Remember conservatives, practice what you preach.

    • American liberal

Correct Jim.. I don’t claim to hold any moral high ground… But you and you’re kind do..and it’s usually those that do claim to have a higher moral standing that are the ones with the least morality….I remember hearing how Conservative leader of the Christian majority Ted Haggard advised president Bush and preached aginst homosexuals only to be using Christian money to pay for Male escorts and drugs( meth).. Now he’s writting books to further take advantage of gullible rightwing Christians…I laugh when I hear Newt talk about conservative morals… And I see his face in my mind when I think of scum ..

      • Jim H.

Am Lib, I don’t agree with your statement about the ones who claim the moral high ground, having the least morality. I know they are watched closer and when they do mess up, are called on it. The ones that don’t claim the high ground can do the same thing, but get a free pass.

Here we go again. A specialist in moral relativism is bored and needs an easy target. Are you still working on your Karl Marx merit badge?
If you haven’t noticed, this is not a big issue with conservatives. If Souder has enough of a FUNCTIONING conscience to resign, that’s HIS business. Your nose is growing, chum.
Since YOU opened the door for pointing out your own flaws (and those of your special ‘friends’), let’s talk about some people who never had any time for morality, and contributed damned little toward
    making this a better country.
First, there’s Baaney Fwank. How many affairs has HE had? Second, there’s Old Ted. Now there’s a role model for morality. You might as well throw in Dodd. Yep, you wackos sure know how to handle morality and set high standards for America. Then there’s Bubba Clinton, who claims that oral sex isn’t really sex.
My, oh my. You twits just get better and better. Always ready to aim fingers, but you haven’t got the guts or the character to look into a mirror. Read my mind, genius. Do you know what you can do, or do I need to spell it out?

  • Chaos Factor

Sc… I’d rather you spell it out…. You can’t start with the words… Conservative hypocrites ..

  • Claire

Makes no difference what party–another one bites the dust. Imagine that. Why am I not surprised.

  • Robin, Arcadia, IN

Being from Indiana, I am very disappointed in this nasty affair and resignation. However, the silver lining to this mess is that Marlin Stutzman, who will make a great politician and replacement for Souder, now has a chance to go to Washington.

I am sorry that Souder professes to be a Christian and then gets into a mess like this. Being a Christian does not make anyone immune to the roadblocks Satan tries to trip us up with. Obviously, Mr. Souder failed in his Christianity and allowed his human side to take control instead of relying on his Christian side.

    • http://?? Joe H.

Did you notice that he was not FORCED to retire? He saw the error of his ways and retired. The Christian belief is that if you are truly sorry and ask for forgivness, you will be forgiven!

Moral interpatude makes democrats climb higher in the party.Social welfare rats like edyee and his ilk, it increases their standing 47 times. Dems stil get giddy at the mention of whorehound Clinton. Why do you suppose the national socialist democrats support muslims so much, it isn’t a religion, it is a ideology they enjoy and gravitate to. Islam was founded by a pedphile called Mohammad. Any sick perverted group that beleive it is ok to marry a baby girl, or using and abusing boys under 10 isn’t sodomy or sick, dems don’t have a compass in life only a ideology.

  • American liberal

Here’s the real morals of rightwing conservatives… Larry ” toe tapper” Craig……Mark” fly me to Argentina” Stanford…..David” 25 dollar prostitute” Vitter….. These are the people who are always preaching what high morals they and their ilk have…. These are the same people who want more ” god” in government….it’s one cheap trist after another .. They just keep fooling the tools that call themselves conservative Christians….the root cause of this planets problems start and end with these radical Christians…. These people have the morals of Ted Bundy…

  • http://gmail i41

am lib, there you go again, usually a rep. gets asked to leave office, not everyone will, free choice option, but with the Kennedies, the Dodds. Clintons, kkk Byrd, any moral flaws raises the perps to high statue in the national socialist democrat party.Thhe parverts become icons in the group hug marxist party, even cold cash Jeferson. I really cann’t beleive your anti Christian attitude, oh, but there a restrictions on policy and beleifs. You are a muslim ideology lover. That is why with your posts, we all know total government control and you definirly lean to a dictator style government. I hope you get Sarah and Michelle Backman motivational tapes, on how to become a conservative and actually take care of your self and become a productive organism
