Two new studies have been released which may help you keep from having a stroke.
First, researchers in Madrid believe that type-A personalities are more likely to have a stroke. High-strung people experience more stress and, therefore, are more likely to experience a stroke.
“This study is useful and valuable because it shows us that there is an association between stress, type A personalities and stroke risk,” said Dr. Deepak Bhatt, director of the integrated cardiovascular intervention program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. “Stress can elevate blood pressure, and high blood pressure is a major risk factor for stroke.”
Second, researchers in Stockholm suggest that eating moderate amounts of chocolate could stave off a stroke. The study found that those who ate the most chocolate had a 17 percent lower risk of stroke.
“These findings suggest that moderate chocolate consumption may lower the risk of stroke,” said co-author Susanna Larsson. “Because chocolate is high in sugar, saturated fat and calories, it should be consumed in moderation.”
So, if you want to lower your chances of having a stroke, chill out and enjoy some chocolate.
