Rasmussen Poll Shows Americans Want ‘Obamacare’ Overhaul

June 1, 2010 by

Rasmussen poll shows Americans want 'ObamaCare' overhaulA majority of Americans remain unhappy with the healthcare legislation passed in March and would like to see the bill repealed, according to recent polls.

In fact, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey has found that 63 percent of United States voters now favor repeal of the reform bill passed by congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Obama in March.

These results have spurred Revere America—an organization that advocates public policies rooted in the traditions of freedom and free markets, and chaired by former Republican New York Governor George Pataki—to highlight its national petition drive.

The initiative aims to collect 1 million signatures of people who want to repeal and replace the healthcare reform bill. It was launched in Boston on April 18, the 235th Anniversary of Paul Revere’s Ride, and has since traveled to 10 cities with more stops planned in the months ahead.

"Rasmussen’s new poll shows beyond any doubt the depth of opposition to the government takeover of healthcare," Pataki said, adding that "it’s not enough to just tell a pollster that you oppose ObamaCare and hope that out of touch politicians in Washington will pay attention."ADNFCR-1961-ID-19804777-ADNFCR

Interesting what the poll leaves out…such as how the majority of dissenters would want to see it overhauled to.

I would join in wanting the repeal of the current law. And replace it with a meaningful framework…a public option installed. Add in reform of the public hospitals system to allow aggressive cost cutting reform eliminatin duplication of expensive machinery (i.e. two hospitals side by side…both have gadzillions in shiny new machinery…why?), and mandating…as we do for non profits … that a certain percentage of monies paid for insurance must go towards care or premium reduction..not as a means to infalte bloated corporate coffers abusing the monopoly they have on a necessary part of American lives..

    • knowsit

hflashman, you make no sense at all. In the sane post you rant against having two hospitals side by side and monopoly power by hospitals. Which will you eliminate??
But then you also want a public option included in any new plan, which is what Obamacare is.
We need some changes like Tort reform, which will also bring the reduction / elimination of defensive medicine. This alone will eliminate shysters like John Edwards who made a cool $100 Mio pursuing birth defects in court, mostly Cerebral Palsy, which he claimed to have happened during delivery. He changed the percentage of much more expensive Cesarean delivery from a few percent to over 25 percent in some areas, without affecting the frequency thereof.

Other changes need to be eliminating of mandates within individual policies and selling of insurance across state line and most of all the elimination of legally mandated treatment to people showing up at emergency rooms without any health insurance.
It will then be up to the hospital to accept the uninsured, an incentive to get some kind of insurance, instead current policies that provide a disincentive
This change, in combination with low cost, limited health insurance will go a long way to eliminate the totally uninsured.

      • David

A public option is not in “Obamacare”. Despite all the self-serving rhetoric of all those who voted for McCain, and those vested interests who want to maintain the status quo, the health care reform of President Obama MAINTAINS THE PRIVATE INSURANCE MARGET WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD!So much for the Socialism scare tactics. The new law lowers costs, expands the coverage, and eliminates some of the worst insurance company abuses. AND, the new law is paid for and lowers the deficit.
Hey, fellow fiscal conservatives, start helping make this new health care law better by understanding it, and telling our elected representatives to improve upon it. How? Expand the coverage to all Americans. Eliminate all insurance company abuses. Reduce health care costs further and further. All other developed nations have done so.

To All TEA party members and supporters,
Prosecutor KrisAnne Hall was fired from her position for speaking at a meeting and she is sueing her boss. the speaking ingagement was on her own time and she never identified herself as a prosecuting attorney. It is a definate breach of her constitutional rights of free speech! Please send her a message of support at She deserves our support!

        • Libby

Oh, good God, it is NOT paid for, it does NOT reduce the deficit, have you not watched the news? Even the liberal channels are beginning to report on the CBO’s latest numbers showing that they were WRONG, this is going to cost a hell of a lot more money than previously reported. Also, MANY companies have come out to report how the cost of this will force them to dump many of their employees insurance and pay the fine instead, (It will be cheaper for them). This law also did not do anything to address the cost of healthcare, it just spreads the cost around to those who already have insurance, they will pay higher premiums and now an added tax. Thanks a bunch, stupid liberal retards!

    • George E

You could also take the “excesses” out of the system by setting up a monopoly with one of the healthcare providers (select one company to provide all of our healthcare and shut all others out). Most people understand that monopolies lead to poor innovation, poor quality service and higher costs. The same will happen if the government becomes the monopoly running our healthcare system. Competition is a key element to getting the most value for the most people. Eliminating competition to minimize some costs, will result in a less optimized result overall (higher costs, poorer quality, etc.) for the majority of our people.

    • Randy

Two Hospitals side by side sounds like competition, which sounds like lower prices and better service…what is so wrong with this?….if it is private and not government run then it is got to be better….

      • George E

        Generally speaking, that’s true.

      • JC

When we have the power of choice in a competetive market place, regulation is not necessary at all. Price fixing should be treated as a crime and put before a court of justice, then you’ll also have honesty in the market place.
But believeing that “government” (of all the ridiculous things) can fix anything…anything at all…is beyond all common sense.

      • Barney Murrell

To Randy, George E, and JC

You people must have been living in a cave the last 30 years or so if you think free markets are any better than government. Have you not heard of the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s? How about the recent (last 10 years or so) collapse of Enron (remember GH Bush’s buddy “Kenny Boy,” head of Enron?), Adelphia, Global Crossing, Imclone, Tyco, Worldcom, just to name a few?

And then there is the latest subprime mortgage crisis with bought and paid for bond rating agencies giving top grades to junk CDO’s and derivatives promoted by Goldman Sachs and others.

And if that is not enough Forbes recently (last year) said that for the first time all 400 of the richest Americans are billionaires, and thanks to GH Bush they only pay 15% income tax on all their stock option sales.

        • Allan

Gee Barney, with all those business opportunists, and the oopportunists in Congress, and the opportunism by average individuals, and non-profit opportunists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and environmental ooportunists like Al Gore, we should have gone to hell in a handbasket. But somehow, capitalism STILL enables the greatest opportunities in the world after several hundred years. Could be even greater if we get the socialist entitlement mentality tamped down in the next election.

        • JC

I’ve been living in a cave Barney?
You might want to widen your scope a little, old boy!
We have had NOTHING of a free market since 1913 when the Fed was brought in. That’s just for starters.
Government / Corporate fascism in America goes back to Hamilton’s time and was greatly expanded under Lincoln.
That covers a lot more ground than 30 years by the way.
We have NO free enterprise in America without the permission and forced partnership of the government. In other words…NO free enterprise whatsoever.
So before you start lecturing anyone about anything do your homework.

    • David

The new health reform law is HISTORIC, and a major accomplishment for President Obama and the Democrats. It is on a par with Social Security and Medicare. It needs to be improved, not repealed. Everyone is entitled to a doctor’s care. No American should ever again have to choose between the death of a loved one and bankruptcy. No other developed nation on earth does this. Women should never again be a pre-existing condition and denied medical insurance coverage. No other developed nation does this. Children will never again be denied medical care because of a pre-existing condition. No other developed nation does this. Never again will Americans, regardless of age and health, be thrown off their health insurance because of annual and lifetime caps. No other developed nation does this.
The problem with the new law is that the Republicans watered it down. What a crowd! They created the mess we are in and have the nerve to criticize and second guess the guy, who in good faith, is trying to clean it up. They set the country on fire, and, since the very beginning of this Administration, have been criticizing the fire department for how much money they are spending on water; while at the same time stepping on the fire hoses. If they hadn’t set the fire in the first place, we wouldn’t have to be spending any money! They own this mess!
And why are they doing this? For self-serving political reasons. They want back in power, as quickly as they can, to attempt to “vindicate” themselves for their incompetent and corrupt performance during the Bush years. Well, this is one fiscal conservative who will not be fooled a second time!

      • Meteorlady

On par with SS and Medicare? Where the heck have you been? We had health care for all. It was called Medicare, Medicaid and Va. Of the 30 million that would be covered, 50% made over $50,000 per year and could afford to purchase health care but did not; 27% were illegals feeding off us and the rest were covered by Medicaid but were either too lazy or too stupid to apply. All three are eating us up in costs, fraud and waste. Rather than try and fix the existing programs our government opted to take over your lives with health care “reform”. Do you really know what’s in that bill? Have you read it?

Even the CBO estimates that they bill will costs $115 billion MORE than we were told and it’s not even implemented yet. It took away some benefits that seniors were promised an paid for through special payroll deductions during their working years, it took away the right of every American to purchase their own health care, or not. It is bloated, there are many added things that don’t even have to do with health care, and it’s just another government boondoggle so why would we not want to see it repealed. It did nothing to control the cost of prescription drugs nor did it allow insurance companies to compete across state lines. No tort reform, nothing to disallow illegals from free health care in our hospital emergency rooms and it stifles competition.

        • David

          Wrong! Get your facts straight.

          • http://?? Joe H.

could you please explain HOW he is wrong instead of just saying wrong?

          • http://?? Joe H.

sorry all to heck for the typo, should be SHE, not he!

      • Meteorlady

Now I’ll comment on the Bush card since you dealt it. Bush inherited a budget deficit from Clinton – the day he took office – of $17.9 billion dollars. The first full year of Bush’s term was a budget signed by Clinton which put Bush further into debt to the tune of $133 billion. For the years 2005 and 2006 the deficit was going down considerably even with both wars. The deficit started escalating when the Democrats gained control in 2007 and 2008. You can verify this on the US Treasury’s own website.

        • David

The national debt has grown by more than $4 trillion during George W. Bush’s presidency.

It’s the biggest increase under any president in U.S history.

On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That’s a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush’s watch.

If you believe the democrats did this after taking over Congress in 2007, where was Bush’s veto pen?

          • Matt

Where is Obama’s pen? Obama has allowed the deficit to grow by roughly $2 trillion in a year and a half. The real debt is $13.036 trillion. It was $10.9 when Bush left office.

      • Linda

Everyone is ENTITLED to a doctor’s care???? In a free country, the only one entitled to benefit from a doctor’s labor is the doctor himself (or herself). Back before the Civil War, people were entitled to the labor of other people….it was called SLAVERY!

How does David plan to staff all of these government run hospitals? Maybe the government will identify the most promising high school students and conscript them into medical school, tell them what specialty they will study and where they will be able to practice after they graduate. If you think this is crazy, just watch them. Once Obamacare is telling them what procedures they can perform on which patients and how much money they can make….it’s not really that big of a stretch!

      • http://?? Joe H.

do me a favor and tell me just how in the he!! the republicans watered it down when they were in the verysmall minority and they weren’t even needed to pass it?? The so called Blue Dog DEMS were the ones who halted Odummer from going farther! The repubs were shut out of all talks till the very last thing when the public started getting on to his little goofball plan!!! go read a little more!

      • Allan

        Let’s see…

If the bill didn’t have majority support of the medical profession, and it didn’t have majority support from the public, but insurance companies and drug companies liked it, doesn’t that raise a red flag for you? Have you noticed where the healthcare budget percentage of some of those socialized systems is heading? To implosion land. The definition of healthcare will be an insatiable, moving target, and the trojan horse of new entitlement desires. Then reality will set in, and delays, restrictions, and shortages that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. But we deserve everything we can imagine, and we can always figure out how to pay for it later, right?

    • s c

Flash, conservatives will admit that you and your ultraliberal progressives have at least a nickel’s worth of common sense and a penny’s worth of credibility IF and WHEN you do the following. First, IF you hate monopolies, then you MUST have the guts to hate ALL monopolies. Second, Herr Obummer’s healthcare SCAM will create a government healthcare MONOPOLY. Third, the FED is a private MONOPOLY. Are you still in a monopoly-hating mood?
So when you do plan to change your ways, and have a working spine and some real ‘gravitas,’ and have at least ONE foot in the REAL world? It’s up to you, chum. We wouldn’t want to FORCE you to live in the REAL world, comrade. We, after all, believe in having CHOICES. Do YOU?

    • Jessica

You complain about two hospitals side-by-side with gazillions of shiny new machinery, why? Because shiny new machinery is called INNOVATION. Only the USA invents new technological advances, because we are the only nation on Earth that doesen’t have the government’s
“boot on our necks”. If you invent something useful in America, you get rich off it. If you invent something in any other country, the government seizes your invention and tells you to either shut up or die. If you are poor and sick in America, you are allowed by law full advantage of our technology, even the experemental stuff. If you are poor and sick in any other country, you will die on the streets waiting for government-run healthcare. That’s why Obamacare sucks, because they want to take us back to that antiquated socialist system.
The main thing that is driving up health care costs are the parasitic trial lawyers. Problem is, many of them are holding high office in Washington right now,or members of their families are.

      • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy

Now that Obama and the Democrats have contol of this country they are making the ‘Change’ to see that we are no better than the rest of the world, why else do you think Obama bows to everyone around the world.
So if you have an invention, you better keep it to yourself until reason and common sense are reinstated and we all have our rights under the ‘Constitution’ again, for they have temporarily (I hope) disengaged it from our society. Hopefully, in the near future, it will be reinstated to its rightful place. Congress needs to be apprised of this!

    • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy

I would like to see the change of freedom added to it. I would like the same privilege as the President, all of Congress, and all federal employees, not including the military, have. That is the right to choose whether I want to participate in it or not to participate in it, as the President, all of Congress, and all federal employees, not including the military, have chosen to. If they choose not to, what gives them the right to make the rest of us to participate in it. This is only being forced on the rest of us because those who in the past that have chosen to carry health insurance beleive they can get it cheaper if the rest of us are forced to carry it to. This is a falacy that has been proven wrong in all the states that have mandatory auto insurance, but we never learn, we make the same mistakes over and over again. Plus our economy will not survive the cost that it will put on the government to provide the small percentage that will get the health insurance that don’t have it now. Also it will decimate the quality of health care that is now available to everyone that has it, including those who are indigent that the hospitals are obliged by law not to turn away and writes off the cost of those who cannot pay. The results will be a bankrupt U.S.A., and the destruction of the world economy. Think it can’t possibly happen? Role those dice and watch, I’m prepared, are you?

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Reform is needed, but the bill was too long for anyone to read it, so nobody really knows whats in it. The government needs to go to the KISS method (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID). Our government is so corrupt that if this bill is repealed, much will need to be done before trying to pass another one!

    • JLC

Robin — KISS is a sound engineering precept, based on Occam’s Razor (When faced with more than one possible solution, the simplest one is most likely to be the correct one). You might like to add another acronym to your collection — TANSTAAFL (There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

      • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy

If by some quirk of fate Obamacare doesn’t bankrupt this country, let alone what its going to do to the quality of health care, then the ‘Cap & Trade Bill’ added to it surely will. Get prepared, bad times, they are acoming.

  • Colo43

anything Obama touches turns to doo doo.

  • jack the cpa

I fail to see how a 3% net “profit” margin is considered to be “bloated”. The latest study I have seen indicated that that 3% profit margin remained unchanged for over 10 years. Yet health care costs increased above inflation rates. “Something” else has to be a part of the problem. Something for us all to consider when we hear challenges as to what needs “fixing”

    • Meteorlady

A couple of things I can recall. Clinton signed a bill allowing drug companies to advertise – thus increasing the cost of prescription drugs hugely. Bush then signed the Medicare Drug Benefit. After the Drug Benefit bill the cost of just one of my mother’s prescriptions went from $32.00 to $59.00 in just six month after passage. One year later it was up to $75.00. Plus we subsidize Canada and probably other countries that they have cost controls on their prescription drugs.

The new health care bill does nothing to stem the rising costs of these drugs. In fact they are now trying to regulate the health food industry because Big Pharma hates them. There are actually alternatives to a lot of prescription drugs and my doctor for one, has put me on one for high cholesterol an it’s working famously.

      • http://?? Joe H.

we are also the only country paying for the research costs of all meds manufactured in or owned by U.S. companies!

    • Allan

It would have been excellent to see what could be saved through tort reform and portability, at very little taxpayer expense. Political donations and careers were the reason we couldn’t try that.

Rasmussen Poll Shows Americans Want ‘Obamacare’ Overhaul: Why? Weren’t “women” the deciding vote to “fundamentally transform” our system of government into a Marxist New World Order regime under Lucifer(now, Satan)as he campaigned to do if elected? That exactly is what he campaigned to do; so he was not lying in that! As Warner Wolf would say; “Now! Lets go to the video tape!” Why did America, who many of you readers KNOW is the REAL Israel, a name given to Joseph’s seed, not to Judah, vote for a “foreigner”(non-Israelite) to rule over them for the very first time in their history when it is FORBIDDEN by the Bible(Deuteronomy 17:15)! Why? The women vote! That’s why! Not much has changed in 6,000 years, has it? Are the two-witnesses coming next that are described in the set-apart bible to punish Israel for 3 1/2 years? Yes, it certainly looks as though that nothing has changed in 6,000 years, doesn’t it! Watch!

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Mr. Barney… You may be correct in a lot of what you say, however the ‘women vote’ did not get Barry elected. I will have to do more research in the rest of your claims…

      • Libby

I am a women and I sure the hell didn’t vote for the ——–!

      • joev

Get your facts straight. It WAS the women who elected this president. Exit polling shows women of all ages voted in numbers far surpassing what they did in any other presidential election and almosy 70% of them voted for the empty suit.

Giving women the vote was the biggets mistake we have ever made in America. They are simply not smart enough to understand the importance of experience and seasoning necessary to be a president of this nation. With them it’s all touchy feely wishful thinking instead od common sense.

Who are you Victor? I have to agree on most if not all you say, but who are you? Where is your data, and I mean not just a book, but where in the book did you get the information to make these assumptions? Inform us please!

We have a Socialist Communist Dictator ” Radial Muslim ” that is craming his views down the american peoples throat against the peoples will. We need to fight this and have this ObamaCare Repealed ASAP.

If the Republicans get in, and hold the majority, the health care reform will no doubt be repealed.

      • TIME

Dr. Paul has a new plan that is far better,I will see if I can’t get the bills numbers and post them when I have a few extra moments.

I have no question in my mind that the HCR bill as it is will be tossed out very soon. No Rass Pole – but a people pole from speaking with folks all over the US, no one and I mean no one wants what was passed.

Kind of strange don’t you all think – how the press has missed that point.

        • Claire

TIME–Good morning. Up before dawn so I can get the dogs exercised and working on the flower gardens before it gets too humid. Now I can relax for a bit. Hope your morning is going well.
The press?? The media?? Yes, some are missing/denying the important aspect that the majority of Americans do not want health reform. They are too busy promoting their party affiliations and “what” their party wants.
Sorry, but I have to say this—I had started watching Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc. again and it is so obvious what party they are “for.” Therefore I do not depend on them for “unbiased reporting.” So I will go to other sources. The liberal channels promote health care reform, the “right” channels do not. Although I have noticed MSNBC has spoken out against Obama a few times. Maybe things are changing?
I am not for the health reform bill. I do not approve of the way it was handled nor do I approve of people/busnesses being fined if they cannot afford health care coverage. This is not morally or ethically correct. This is not the way to conduct “business.” The economy and jobs are foremost in my mind. This administration has bounced from one issue to another without stopping and thinking rationally and clearly. They wasted an entire year on this bill and the end result was still insufficient. They rushed everything else through too quickly without any hindsight or foresight. Too many issues have been handled frenetically and half-a$$ed.
I look forward to seeing your post regarding the information about Rand Paul. Thanks!

When the November elections come the ‘Democrats’ are in for a big surprise, because its going to be worse than they expect, but by then will it be to late for this country. Its going to be worse for Obama then it was for Clinton’s first mid-term elections, but the damage already done may be to severe to reverse. ‘Cap & Trade’, illegal amnesty, repeal of ‘Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell’, and especially Elaina Kagan
appointment to the ‘Supreme Court’ will be irreversible and do us all in for sure, if they pass all this before the elections in November, and thats their plan.

I think it should be a criminal act for a politician to vote on something they have not read or have no understanding on.

    • Siridh

I agree, I was shocked when I realized they didn’t read the bills. Its the most irresponsible thing I’ve ever heard. Anyone who voted yes on this bill needs to be thrown out. Its unconscionable to foist almost 3,000 pages of “who knows what” on the American people.

      • http://?? Joe H.

I think some conservative should try to pass a 1500 page bill and slip in the line that anyone that signs without reading agrees to resign!! THAT would be funny!!!

    • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy

The Republicans tried to force the bill to be read before the vote, but the Democrats with their super majority stopped it and forced the vote without anyone having the chance to read it. Funny thing about all this is that the Democrats supposedly wrote this bill behind locked doors, but even those behind those locked doors that were allowed to vote didn’t know what was in the bill, for some of them have exhibited surprise on some of the items coming out about it now.
This begs the question then, who actually did write this bill, the socialist czars appointed by Obama must have come through another door that wasn’t locked, like the one that the Republicans stood at waiting for Obama’s campaign promise of a bipartisanship and openness, and gave the bill to the Democrats and instructed them to claim it as their own and pass it as is.

      • http://?? Joe H.

the height of stupidity was the time they brought a speed reader in to read it aloud! these are the same people that read the disclaimers on commercials on TV!! can you understand every word they say? how about if they go on for hours????

When hundreds of people a day are declaring bankruptcy, losing their jobs and their homes and can’t afford healthcare, while healthcare costs and CEO benefits are rising, something needed to be done. Inspite of this reality, on one side of the argument, were those that insisted our healthcare system was the best in the world and they were happy with what coverage they have. When asked if they want a governemnt take over of their health insurance, they said “NO” and “Keep your hands off my Medicare” and complained that reform was being shove thru. When asked if they’d like to keep their kids on their insurance longer, have everyone covered, include preventative care and pre-existing conditions, close the Medicare donut hole, etc. these polls got a resounding “yes”! Those of US that think healthcare is a human right, are happy that after decades, some major progress was finally made but not happy that we just handed the profiteering insurance companies millions of more customers…we will continue to work hard towards a choice of a non-for-profit healthcare system. The bottomline, obstructionists believe in supporting corporate profiteering & control/oligarchy and progressives believe in supporting healthy “We the People” and planet exponential profits/democracy.

You live in LA La Land. Who profits if your forced to buy a product?
make that 30 some odd million new people that are forced to buy said product.
Your rant just highlites your lacking mental abilitys very clearly to anyone who has any gray matter at all.

Perhaps you should really think about moving to say Cuba, I think you would really like that form of health care they have.

      • hflashman

LOL …. if you had taken the time to check where Cuba stands in world rankings as far as health care…you’d realize that health care system that wouldn’t be a bad choice. [Note...I refer to what you said... the health care system, not political system]

If we have such a great system…why are we ranked so low in the world in every aspect of medical care?

        Jeesh ….

        • George E

If Cuba has such a great healthcare system, why aren’t people rushing down there to get their healthcare? The market is the real test of who has the best healthcare, or any other product/service for that matter.

        • TIME

If you took the time to grasp what the health care in Cuba truly was, its rankings as it were you would better understand such rhetoric for what it truly is.

You need to do some “real reading” to better understand how the ratings systems work – thus you should go get the works of “Walter Lipman,” and read them if you can’t grasp them ask, after your done you then can apologize to me any time for your being so gullible.
Until you can grasp whats going on you should refrain from making mindless post. Opinions when based on BS are nothing but stinky.

          • Claire

Time–Mexico will be the last place I would go to for health care. Who wants Montezuma’s Revenge on top of everything else? I lady I know went down there for a gastric bypass. She weighed about 350 pounds. You should see her now. Talk about skinny!! Now she has a lot of digestive problems and hardly ever feels good anymore. Other people have had this type of surgery and they came out okay. Go figure.

        • Meteorlady

Jeesh – it might do you good to look at mortality rates in Cuba versus the US. For that matter look at morality rates and life expectancy of other countries versus the US. Are you saying that Medicaid and Medicare are well run, free of fraud and waste and really working for the American people. My neighbor is having a hard time finding a doctor that will accept new medicare patients because it does not pay enough for him to keep is doors open. So the doctor limits the number of patients he/she accepts that have medicare/medicaid and raises the price of service for the other privately insured individuals. That’s called government run health care.

          • George E

Oh, and don’t forget. When your neighbor does find a doctor that will accept him/her, then when he/she needs an expensive procedure either the doctor will not provide the service because Medicare won’t pay enough, or Medicare will deny the request for reimbursement altogether as part of their cost reduction program. Ain’t “free” government healthcare wonderful?

          • Claire

This discussion brings to my mind the “errors” that have happened with my husband’s surgeries. I could write a book.

        • http://?? Joe H.

Mexico has public healthcare and cheap drugs, but their people are illegally entering this country, risking arrest and jail time to get healthcare here!

          • Libby

Oh, come now, you know they don’t get put in jail. They get free money, healthcare, free education, everything is free in America!!!

          • http://?? Joe H.

true, very true, I claim temporary loss of memory!

    • Titus

“not happy that we just handed the profiteering insurance companies millions of more customers”

On the contrary, Obamacare will be a textbook case of adverse selection. People will under-insure (or self-insure) when they are healthy and buy an expensive well-paying plan should they become ill. Can I look forward to your future bleeding-heart screeds after the resulting bailouts?

    • Meteorlady

Health care is a right if you work for it. Health care is not a right if you take my money to get it.

      • http://?? Joe H.

I know this is off subject but did you see my post about prosecutor KrisAnne Hall? she was fired from her job as prosecuting attorney for speaking at the TEA Party gathering even though she did it on her own time, never introduced herself as a prosecutor, and didn’t connect her office in any way. she is quite well versed in constitutional law and was talking about that as she believes very strongly that people should know all they can about this subject. She is now suing her employer. I think we need to give her a bit of support by e-mail. her addy is Let’s all give her a hand electronically!! I have Emailed my support and urge others to do the same!

    • JC

So the same system (morons) that caused all those financial problems are supposedly going to get health care right? Unbelievable.

    • Allan

By obstructionists, I guess you mean the 60%+, the millions of voters that want to repeal it? Please ask yourself this question: Why would millions of average people want to support “corporate profiteering & control/oligarchy”. What possible reason Laura, since there’s nothing in it for them, and they’re TURNING DOWN the freebie. It makes NO SENSE, does it? The answer is they are looking at it from a different perspective. A perspective that has nothing to do with corporation hating and class warfare. It’s a simple desire for less government intervention. And a belief that if we had less of it, our current system would be more cost effective. So if you’re going to criticize obstructionists, at least start with a valid reason.

  • Save America Susie

Yes, I agree they should have a law against voting before reading a bill! Even Pelosi said words to the effect that “we need to pass this HC Bill so we can see what’s in it”! I saw the video. Is she nuts? Isn’t that getting the cart before the horse? Proper procedure would have been to spend at least a couple of months in study of the proposed bill with everyone READING IT and then vote. Otherwise you are getting a “grab bag” of you can only guess what. I think the Dems were just DESPERATE to pass something–anything–just to say they had passed a health care bill, ramming it through by force (isn’t that rape?)as quickly as possible. It ALMOST passed by presidential order it passed by such a small margin. When a press person at a press conference suggested to BO that people will try to repeal it, he said, “Good luck with that!” and he laughed! As if he really didn’t care about the majority of the American people at all, just wanted what he and what the Dems wanted. There was never any acknowledgment of the Republicans suggestions for the Bill, and he and other Dems kept saying that the Republicans had no answers, when in fact they did. They were just ignored. Not a single Republican voted for the Bill, and several Blue Dog Dems voted against it. What does that tell you? At the time, someone said: “Why do they need to rush this HC Bill through in a few weeks when it took Obama 6 months to pick out the family dog?”

    • Claire

Save America Susie– I have to laugh at what you said. “took six months to pick out the family dog.” In reality, I don’t think Obama nor his wife even wanted a dog. It was just another political stunt. You know, the old “ahhhh, I’m an animal lover so I am a good person” ploy. It was just politics as usual.

      • Save America Susie

Claire, Yes, isn’t there some tradition now about having a Presidential dog? Many also started to document the adventures of the dog or dogs on video. I wonder whose feeding this dog now? Maybe it has its own PDC–Presidential Dog Chef? LOL. Maybe the novelty has worn thin. They have not shown us any dog videos of “BO-the-Dog” lately.

3.any deception, trickery, or humbug: That diet book is a fraud and a waste of time.

            Hi Jeff,

I think you covered it quite well, with BarryO, rather he directly made an offer or if one of his staff of a person whom he asked to make said offer to allow a favor in the form of a political power
job as compensation by way of external factors, as in being paid by lobbyist, as BarryO would have a direct knoledge of said perks or the job offer would have no value to the person who is asked to walk away.

In plain words, BarryO not only knew that the person would gain $ as
well have power to impose his will as an agent of BarryO’s office.

Thus its pure Fraud and is not just a misdemeanor its a compound felony.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution

Need to revise to add “the President together with his/her staff” as it appears that the President and his czars are also circumventing the laws of the land.

    Respectfully Submitted,

    Paul M. Mrozinsky

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution

    From: James Graham

As a widow of a military retiree, who stood with her husband for over 20 years while he served this country (which was the greatest in the world until this Congress and President took over), I have to say I agree. Shirley

As a retired military man that have given over twenty-seven years of my life to my country, I truly feel that what this
Country needs most is a new amendment to the Constitution . I am recommending that we add the 28th amendment to the Constitution of the UNITED STATES.

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that Congress members could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn’t pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered…in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn’t seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don’t care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Congressman, Senators, Representatives and the President together with his/her staff; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Congressman, Senators, Representatives, and the President together with his/her staff that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States”.

This 28th amendment to the Constitution of the UNITED STATES Will apply to all passed, present and future
Presidents an their staffs , Congressman, Senators an Representatives.
Just think of all the money this would save the tax payers!!!!!

I think the Senators, Representatives or Congressman that comes out strongly for this will be our next President.

HTCM USN Retired James A. Graham E-Mail address is ( ) Please forward !!!!!!!

The US healthcare reform is excluding one very important group, the people that passed the bill. If our lawmakers were required to participate in the healthcare services they voted on, maybe some of them might read the bill before voting on it.
Healthcare does need to be reformed, but look at who was the driver for runaway health cost, medicare. The governments inability to run any program cost effectively. Now we expect the same government to run all healthcare in this country? It would be funny if it were not true.

    • JC

Good point. Congress makes bills for the good of all…except for themselves. “All of the animals are equal…but the pigs are more equal” ~ Orwell’s Animal farm

  • refuse2lose

Americans may not need to worry about whether the bill is repealed or not.The AMATEURS in congress who wrote the bill forgot to include a SEVERABILITY CLAUSE.These are inserted so that if the Courts find any parts of a law unconstitutional the rest can stay as is.So all we need to do is hope that one section of the bill is found to be unlawful, then the whole bill can be trashed.

Thank God for mental midget liberals

  • Jerry

This administration is saturated with Chicago-style politics. This, in addition to the fact that our elected officials didn’t even read the bills they signed is enough to make me heave my lunch. All one has to do is Google the term, PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS, to see what is going on. The Progressive Caucus has 84 members of the House, and their website clearly spells out their ideology and mission statements, in addition to the names of the 84 democrats who are in the aforementioned caucus. Note: there are ZERO republicans in this caucus. What does that tell you? Can you say Marxist or Progressive? The term Communist has worn out it’s welcome wagon, so they are using the less caustic term of PROGRESSIVE to get around the less popular

  • Jerry

term of COMMUNISM. This is a mission….by the LEFT, to transform America (just as BHO promises to do). I can’t wait until November.

You can be sure that Herr Obummer is hoping that we won’t remember that his favorite stooge [pelosi] adnitted that “the bill had to be passed to know what’s in it.” On several levels, that is an evil desire that no one will ‘complain.’ It assumes that those who passed that DAMNED abomination are smart enough to get it right the first time [Congress? how often do they get ANYTHING right?]. And, it truly defines this gang of career criminals.
We don’t need polls to know what’s going on in America. You can see from the responses to this article that Obummer’s psychotics still want to ram a public option down our throats. SCREW a public option, and SCREW those who want to force it on us.
This isn’t just healthcare, people, IT IS ABSOLUTE CONTROL OVER OUR LIVES. It is anti-American, and it should tell us everything we need to know about those who champion “CHOICE,” but who couldn’t care less whether or not we ever get it. They are LIARS and manipulators who HATE us.
NEVER forget that! KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

  • Harry Cauley

I was reading an email sent to me about free health given to illeagal immigrants the other day. It sited that a hospital in Dallas was giving it to any illeagal that came throough their doors, especially pregnant Mexican women. It also left a Snopes spot to check it out. It was true as I did check it out. But not only this Dallas hospital but many county hospitals throughout the USA. They also leave out American Citizens from free care without a SS# so that income may be checked on. Citizens are required to show if they have insurance or medicade or some way of paying but illeagals are not required to show anything. All they have to do is state they are poor, which they probably are, and they are in free. Some of the illeagals just come over the border for a visit and give birth to an anchor baby so they can stay in this country because the baby is born in the USA and therefore is a citizen. That is where most of our health care is broken and needs fixing.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Harry C.,
Fine, if they want to come here to have a baby and try to stay, then I say that the parents should be given a choice. Put the kid up for adoption and as soon as the kid is adopted they leave. The other choice would be to take Jr and go back to Mexico!!! No bringing family over the border after the kid is of age, either!!

    • Meteorlady

Lest see – multiply that ONE Dallas hospital by all the hospitals in the US and see was you get. That hospital is NOT giving away free health care they are mandated by the federal government to treat ALL that walk into their emergency room.

This practice is detrimental to all those who truly have an emergency as I learned first hand last summer. My mother is 92 and had a breathing emergency. The hospital just two miles away refused to take anymore ambulances and she was transported 15 miles across town during rush hour traffic. Meanwhile my brother got the call and assume they took her to her hospital. Once there he saw 27 latinos getting medical attention because there had been a knife fight. Only two of the 27 were true emergencies, the rest could have gone to private clinics or minor emergency clinics. When ask, emergency room personnel said this happened all the time but they were required to look at each individual and stabilize them. They also commented that most would be “charity cases”. There was even an infected toe nail and the people complained when they were referred to a doctor. The hospital also had to bring in an interpreter for the majority of these people.

Many refuse to remember that “Socialist” based programs have been acceptably passed over the past decades, most without so much as a question. Agreed, some were/are beneficial, such as Social Security. Not all of us were able to have jobs that allowed us to put back for our retirement or continue with the ever increasing cost of life and medical insurance. At 67 and having bad heart problems quickly cut my income to “0″ and moved me into the “recipient” position. Personally, I feel “Our” government should fill certain “slots” in our lives, but there should also be some common sense. The present “person”(for lack of factual credentials) residing in the White House has rapidly pushed the envelope, so to speak. It has become a Socialist take-over of any and everything possibly beneficial to the American citizenry and, at the same time, taking from the American citizenry the same freedoms and rights that our military has supposedly been protecting, on foreign soil, for numerable decades. The real fault lies in the apathy and complacency of the American citizen. These two diseases are the worst that have ever overtaken America. THIS, my fellow citizens, is worse than aids and much more deadly …. yet … is self-curable. Through: education, assimilation and united in a single cause. We can either accept Concentration Camps and mass population reduction demanded by the One World Government, at over 75%. OR WE CAN UNITE and TAKE AMERICA BACK. With a computer, there is no excuse for ignorance in and of our own situation!!

    • http://?? Joe H.

The truth is the problem will never fix itself as long as we have a high number of third and forth generation welfare rats that refuse to work as they can make more on welfare! I say if we have to have welfare, then make them earn it if they are physically able to do so!!! WE have to fix the problem with our vote and our CONSERVATIVE representatives!!!

      • Libby

No kidding, why is Welfare free? Why don’t they have to do community service or something to earn their welfare? I have known many people on welfare throughout the years and none of them were disabled.

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Bruce D.

It is very bad that most politicians did not read the Healthcare bill or understand what they were voting on. They did understand enough of it though to make sure their healtcare plan would not be affected by it. I do not like that congressional bribery seems to be legal and proved to be the only way to get it passed. Arlin Specter reminds me of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings. How pathetic can someone get.

  • J.M.R.

  • Tea Party Tim

Let’s face facts. One out of every one Americans eventually die. Healthcare reform can not change this statistic.

The goal of this legislation was to provide healthcare coverage to those that could not afford and force those that are uninsured to become insured if they were financially able. The results are that we have created a welfare state that does not begin or end with healthcare.

Ron Paul has purposed legislation that will repeal the Healthcare Reform act and replace it with a privitazied system that greatly increases tax credits for medical expenses.

It would be far better to offer an affordable catastrophic coverage plan than have the government offer to pay for comphrensive coverage for those that can not afford more.

  • Greg W.

If our legislators would be in the same boat as the rest of us, then we would likely have a better more workable plan. If there is a nationwide health plan, it should cover everyone equally from the president on down. Of course this will never happen. There will never be a good plan until it affects the legislators as well as the rest of us. They have the most incredible health insurance (and benefits) on earth, and would not want it changed. Would you? How dare they try to decide what’s best for the country unless it affects them in kind.

    • Meteorlady

All people that work for the federal government, including house and senate members have the same health care. That means the lowest paid postal worker has the same health care as your senator. Only the President and the next in line have different and more comprehensive health care. The problem is not with them having the same as us – that would be government run- but with them dictating our health care in general.

  • Larry

Pork, so what is new? Otherwise Obama is making the right decisions.
You don’t think McCain would be fixing things do you?

    • Meteorlady

You need help. Obama is not making decisions – Soros and the rest are making his decisions – he’s just carrying out their agendas. As for McCain – I don’t believe anyone in the current government is going to fix anything. All they have done is feather their own nests for decades. So what exactly was your point or did you have one?

    • George E

At least the reforms suggested by the Republicans, which were overwhelmingly defeated by the Democrats in Congress, made sense to me. I believe those reforms would have helped to keep costs down. Heavy-handed government regulations and control of the healthcare system, like the Dems put into law, don’t make sense to me, and I feel sure will lead to higher overall costs, even if the government does manage to keep premiums down. Taxpayers will pick up the bill, and that bill will eventually reach most of us because it’s going to be enormous.

Heard on the news today–Al Gore and his wife have separated.

    • jbird

WHAT? How can that be? How could anyone divorce Al Gore? He has a Nobel Prize. He invented the internet. Why, Love Story was written about Al and Tipper. It must be George Bush’s fault.

      • s c

Gore’s wife deserves a lot of sympathy. As for Big Al, I wonder if the new house in California is a reward for knowing in advance that a divorce was coming.
40 years of putting up with the King of Duh must be rough on one’s emotions. Now, Gore’s ex can get on with her life, put that clueless airhead behind her and finally understand what is so wrong with progressives.
I have a lot of sympathy for her. Big Al can spend his millions on crayons and scribble over-sized diary notes, lie about creating the internet, fondle cactus and wait for more easy millions to roll in when Oponzi’s energy disasters cripple the economy. What a #&^*@.

JoeH–I don’t know what she will do. She deserves all that she can get after putting up with him all those years. I know I could not have lived with the guy. His personality and mannerisms always reminded me of my sister’s ex-husband. lol

  • Rob Alexander

Repeal that POS and the sooner the better. There has NEVER been a bill with more regulations that lowered costs, this much should be obvious even to the dimmest of government lovers.

    All that is needed is:
    A) tort reform
    B) freeing up the market – eliminating regulatory barriers to consumers finding the lowest prices, elimination of mandatory coverages, etc.

Anytime you try to solve a problem artificially with regulation, SOMETHING else has to take a hit, this is inevitable and unavoidable. Either costs go up, or if they’re held down artificially with more regulations, supply and/or quality takes the hit instead, as we’ve seen in every country in the world with socialized medicine (not this does NOT mean the same thing as saying Obamacare is socialized medicine). Laws and regulations are already responsible for how bad things currently are, we really need to repeal more than just Obamacare instead of doing more of the same thing that caused the problem in the first place expecting a different result.

  • Jessica

Here’s a nightmare scenario for you: Imagine a frail little old lady (your grandmother, perhaps) who only needs a simple heart bypass operation to keep her alive for another twenty years. But to get it, she has to grovel before a panel of stone-faced bureacrats and beg for her right to live. Or imagine a distraught young couple with a premature baby. And some prim, self-important government twit informs them that their baby cannot have the incubator that would save his life, because it’s not cost-effective under the government-run health care plan. Think it can’t happen here? Think again. REPEAL THE BILL!

    • JC

The idea of trusting any government bureaucracy with any part of our lives is frightening, but with our health care? Well that’s just downright horrifying.

  • Robert

repeal it ANDDD remove from office at the earliest opportunity (impeachment, elections) everyone who took part in the fiasco that is part of the judicial, executive, or legislative branches of our republic!!!!!

  • Boo Ewald Taylor

There are so many things wrong with the current health care system, but it’s better than complete social medicine across the personal board. We already have partial social medicine, medicaid/medicare, and I don’t want to use either one, even tho medicare is inevitable if you live long enough. I would love to see the bill repealed and work on real reform, like tort reform and see what happens, one step at a time. It’s taken years and years to make this problem, it takes time to undo the mess, too. I just wish the government would would do their job(s), and represent us, not take “care” of us. Spend our money wisely, I know that’s asking alot.

  • Allen

A bill bigger than most telephone directories and with only a handfull of useable items should be repealed. Why is it so huge? Because it hides too many unuseable items and incorporates too much Government control and interferrence in it’s volumnous interior. (around 150+ new Government agencies)
It needs be repealed and each of the items needed for reform should be brought before Congress individually and voted up or down on it’s own merits. Each item should stand on it’s own, not stuffed with garbage items that have no place in a healthcare reform bill.

  • cognex

Insurance companies are just middle-men driving the cost of doing business up. Middle-men give rise to corruption. They produce nothing worthwhile for society and only leach the life blood from unsuspecting victims. We are all victims of the federal reserve, wall street, insurance companies, etc… We must educate ourselves to rid our society of those who want to pillage and offer no productivity to society.

  • cognex

Also, government is and has become a middle-man, impinging on the rights of free Americans.

  • David J. Sanchez

Let the free enterprise system operating with a competitive spirit work to solve the medical care needs of the people of this nation with the federal and state gov’ts. keeping everything running smoothly. Turning the medical care system as a monopoly over to the federal gov’t. does nothing to solve cost problems and only will allow bureaucrats to control cost overruns by disallowing certain procedures and age groups from receiving the proper care they need. “Well they are old and they are unproductive citizens now and need to move on,so that the younger stronger people who use less services can prosper.” Say no to Obamacare before it is too late.

  • Maryanne

Has anyone noticed that thereis nothing pertaining to health in that Healthcare Bill pertaining th health care. It was pushed through hard and heavy to supply perks and money to his buddies that you don’t even hear about, like the Unions and etc, This was brought to our attentions on the news the other day and then I realized they were right. Other then raising taxes there isn’t much mentioned about health or maybe some cutbacks, I sure hope someone manages to throw him out of there or makes him resign.
I am apolled at the Supreme Court and the Judicial Department that completely ignore all the falsehoods, lies, fraud, and deceit from that man and it is just passed over, WHY? I suppose that’s why he hand picked everybody around him as he’s trying to do with the elections today. You try it and see what happens to you, things that he has gotten away with. Disgusting!
