Rand Paul, American Hero

Hugo Chavez just died, and many of us said “good riddance” to a tyrant who defrauded his own people, intimidated his political opposition and left his economy and country in disarray. Senator Rand Paul seemed to be reminding us: “Why would we want a tyrant in America, too?” That was the point of Paul’s nearly 13-hour filibuster on the U.S. Senate floor last week.

Yes, Barack Obama is cool and hip and fancies himself “a man of the people.” But with each hour Paul kept up his filibuster, you could feel Obama’s popularity melting away. Paul seemed to be saying: “Does it really matter if he’s hip if he wants to kill you, an American citizen, on American soil? Does it matter if he’s cool and the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with, if he wants you dead without a trial?”

In the end, Paul won. Obama blinked. But Paul’s filibuster accomplished much more than forcing the President to admit he cannot kill Americans on American soil without a trial.

Paul proved the Tea Party is alive and well — and America’s best hope to stop Obama from shredding our Constitution and destroying the America we love.

Paul proved “the emperor has no clothes.” This was a big public embarrassment for Obama.

He made liberals, the American Civil Liberties Union and the media look foolish for never saying a word about something so important as our right not to be assassinated by our own President.

Paul showed people like John McCain and Lindsay Graham how a U.S. Senator in the opposition is supposed to act, how to stand up to the President while he violates our Constitution. And they sure felt embarrassed: See how they viciously attacked Paul after he showed them up.

And in 13 hours, Paul got out of his father Ron Paul’s very large shadow, became his own man and became a leading contender for President of the United States in 2016.

We must never forget that Rand Paul had to conduct a 13-hour filibuster and put a national spotlight on Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder before they were willing to publicly concede that they can’t kill Americans on American soil without ever hearing the charges, without ever facing your accusers, without hearing your rights, without a lawyer, without a trial.

Paul made Obama look like King George. And the President’s ratings not only collapsed, they’ve continued to go down ever since.

But I think this was about much more than drones. I think this was symbolic. Paul is a brilliant strategist. This was about Obama’s nonstop abuse of power, disregard for the U.S. Constitution and destruction of the U.S. economy.

Maybe this woke up the sleeping giant: the American people. Maybe this woke up Congress. Maybe this woke up the ACLU. Maybe this woke up the media. Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?

In the future, I suggest a series of nonstop filibusters to shine a light on what Obama is doing to America.

Let’s filibuster until we find out what happened in Benghazi, Libya, to four American heroes that Obama allowed to die, without giving them the proper security before the attack or the proper rescue attempt during the attack.

Let’s filibuster until we find out why, if America is so broke we can’t afford White House tours or afford to keep illegal alien felons in prison, then how come we have hundreds of millions of dollars to spare for Muslim Brotherhood radicals in Egypt who hate America, want to destroy Israel and terrorize and murder Christians on a daily basis?

Let’s filibuster until we find out why Obama is so desperate about disarming Americans, banning our assault rifles and taxing our bullets, yet at the same time Obama’s Homeland Security is buying record quantities of assault rifles, armored vehicles and enough bullets for a 30-year war and building a private civilian army that answers only to Obama.

And perhaps most importantly, let’s filibuster about why Obama and the media are able to keep calling this economy “in recovery” and report to us that unemployment is “improving,” at the same time disposable income just suffered the biggest drop in 54 years, homelessness in New York City is the highest since the 1929 Great Depression, food stamp use just hit another all-time record (an unimaginable 20 percent of eligible Americans are now on food stamps), and there are a record 89,304,000 able-bodied, working-age Americans unemployed. Incidentally, while the Federal government claims 236,000 new jobs were added last month, this statistic shows that 296,000 jobs have been lost since January.

By the way, Paul, this last one about the economy is so important, and the lies we are being told so massive, I suggest at least a 48 hour-filibuster.

        Our economy was destroyed by the Federal Reserve Board intentionally creating inflation, not war, per se. Part of the inflation is “Quantatative Easing”. All that money went to foreign banks. Until we as a country address the problem of a central bank, woe and doom will continue. It is not too late. Bring back a gold standard for the dollar, have court trials for Bush one and two as well as Obama, Clinton, tricky Dick Nixon (in absentia), Lyndon Johnson (in absentia), and all the Federal Reserve Board members, past and present. Death penalty for all those not already dead. Then abolish the CIA and FBI as they are the shooting arm for the globalists.

    If you believe that Rand Paul is a libertarian, then you aren’t just naive, but you don’t know what libertarianism is. I’ve been a libertarian for 50 years and a tax rebel for 38 years. It’s because of people like Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and you that true libertarians were
    forced to add the word “radical” before libertarian. Prof. Murray
    Rothbard was the father of the “modern” libertarian movement. He was
    my mentor and friend. I’m sure that he’s “spinning in his grave”.

    I would like to think that real statesmen could make a difference and somehow begin to turn this once great country back toward constitutional government, but, I thinkl it may be too late. I will continue to support these types of leaders and thier efforts, but also continue to prepare for what I think is the inevitable destruction of all we hold dear. The continual assault on our liberties seems to be getting stronger everyday. This idea that any government agent can look at our bank records and other financial records at will without reasonable cause and a judges warrant, is only the latest unconstitutional assault on us. Will there be enough real leaders to turn back the tide of evil.

Call this guy on the carpet, stand up for what’s right, shine a light on the disgusting things this president is up to. I’ve been sold extremely disappointed in what the Republicans in Congress have been doing, Zero! John McCain is more like a limp wristed liberal that’s hiding himself behind the word Republican.     Rand Paul has guts, unlike many of his colleagues, to stand on his own to fight until the administration gave in ,which it could have done earlier to avoid filibuster, but it had enhanced the standing of R Paul. with its undue delay.

      Abimanu, Rand Paul may have “enhanced his reputation:” with his filibuster but I am not sure it did it where it means the most! Among the Independents and moderate Democrats who may see it for what it was, more delaying tactics from he Party of NO and a 2016 campaign speech! I don’t see an “enhancement” big enough to overcome the 2% level of the Paul family heritage in American politics!

If you refer to the 17 word letter AG Holden sent to the Senate floor and read into the Congressional record…the nail in Paul’s coffin for any aspiration for other offices, a 17 word sentence stating the obvious… you are quite literally joking or a joke yourself.

Christy of NJ…for some unknown reason they did not invite the Governor..a man who gave the keynote at the GOP convention and has a 70+ approval rating by his voters…

    Rand Paul should be commended for his actions but………….. Rand Paul is an intentional distraction along with the bought and paid for “Tea Party” to appease true conservatives in the Republican party. After what happened at the GOP convention and events leading up to it, isn’t it apparent that the platform cannot be changed from the grassroots? Isn’t it apparent that the GOP hierarchy will do anything to maintain control and continue to suppress the voice of the people? Unless Rand leaves the GOP and becomes a third party candidate he cannot and will not be taken seriously by those of us in the movement. “The Movement” will not be fooled again by the Republicans. A third party MUST come to the forefront just as Lincoln did 180 years ago when he ousted the Whigs. It’s time for a serious change. Not a fake change like Rand represents by continuing to work inside the confines of a broken and corrupt party. Rand represents many good things but a spokesman/leader of the “movement” he is not. The duopoly will do anything to keep power. That includes throwing the movement a (Rand) bone. He’s been placed, willing or not, to further divide the movement! Think about that please. The only way a REAL change will come is with a third party.

      This whole event was some sort of a stage disconnect ~ While a Good point of concern perhaps but directed to the wrong body of government. It was like a 15 hour fire prevention class in a baptist bible study class. ~the Connection and Related by the smallest of threads.

      A Show Boat event ! ~ The germane relevance related to the Hearing and the work to be address constituted little more than “Sand Bagging” , the slowing down of government process in a room full of over paid Senators wasting a days work.

      Odd way to use a filibuster ~ I guess the question is, was there anything gained besides Mr. Root assigning Rand Paul “Hero Status”?

      Well? a real standing filibuster was a welcome sight to see I suppose. While a citizens rights to a trial before his accusers seemed to be a the core of Rand Paul argument .

      Rand Paul might not know it ~ but government intelligence have been snuffing American Citizens found compromised in arbitrary fashion for a good 50 years that I know of personally. ~ People get bumped in a crowd ~ and two minutes later they die of a stroke, heart failure.~~ Rand Paul is a babe in the woods to the working of Intelligence community. ~~ The Drone program and recent neutralizing of an American Muslim gone rogue (as claimed by government) has only lifted the vale on such activities. If Ronnie Reagan were our President today ~ I question if Rand Paul would let out a whimper to the injustice of it.

      I’m just not convinced that Rand Paul is doing us big a favor as he makes his stand on principles when the dark seedy under belly of the real world is not principled as all. It’s almost like Jimmy Carter just arrived on the Hill and is attempting to explain the merits of moral values to Tip O’Neal.

        Since it’s “Give Bob a Big(ger) Head Day”, I will second what Karolyn said (no thanks required, Bob). In fact, I will even suggest that all of Wayne’s columns be replaced by columns from Bob, who at least sometimes makes sense—-Wayne seldom does.

        Wait, I take that back! What was I thinking? Wayne is worth reading for the entertainment value alone—-it’s like “MAD magazine comes to PLD”.

        Back to being serious, I do think Bob would have been a better choice for CPAC, but maybe they put Wayne in there just for comedy relief—-those conservatives are SO serious about themselves that they do need some “lightening up”—–it would be good if they did recognize that.

Mr. Root reaches too far outside the realm of probability to amuse my interest. ~ I would not call it “conservative thinking” at all ~ but more in line with a Zoo Keeper throwing out raw meat to a captive and hungry audience eager to be fed something bloody. Maybe they didn’t kill it themselves while most willing to feed none the less.

            Rand Paul is no “hero” but a struggling Junior Senator attemping to make a career in government that Champions ~the notion that we all just fell out of the sky and should be unencumbered to anything and be as free as a bird while we are all being held in bondage by a mean and evil government ~ that demand too much and sucks our blood!

            Well? I say ~ being a little right and a lot wrong will never get us to where we need to go. Tying governments hands to where it’s inert offers some appear I suppose. ~ But it sure is expensive to be rendered ineffective.

            Catching Bad guys has always met with the difficulty of defending citizens rights. ~ bad guys used their rights to commit crimes. ~

            We’d be better served if he focused his moral fiber elsewhere as bad guys are attempting to take over.

        It is hard to maintain “balance” when one is assailed by the mindless rantings of the lunatic righties that populate PLD in such numbers (you need to call in an exterminator, Bob—they’re worse than cockroaches—-don’t let them get out of control).

        So let me rephrase that a bit. “Bob, who at least OFTEN makes SOME sense…” That’s probably more fair. And that’s as “right-handed” as I will go.

    President Barack Hussein Obama was reelected by a sizable margin. The GOP LOST ground in their bid to take hold of the Senate and were outvoted in the House races by
    FIVE MILLION aggregate votes!

    The GOP has NO ONE to run against Hillary (or any other Democratic** candidate) in 2016, which means sixteen straight years, at least, of the White House being held by the Democratic Party. The Reich Wing of Amerikkka, therefore, will not being nominating
    anybody to the Supreme Court for a long time….thank God!

    The type of grandstanding exhibited by silly Paul solidifies his stature with the Far-Right, but serves only to focus the attention of the more thoughtful amongst us on the unwillingness of the Right to cooperate, despte the many concessions afforded them by President Obama. This is what is killing the Right in the eyes of the ever younger, ever brighter voting populace.

    As has been pointed out numerous times, the GOP holds onto their House majority through gerrymandering—again, the voters gave Democratic House candidates five million more votes than their GOP counterparts. There is nothing on the horizon to give comfort to the Teabaggers. You are all losing ground, and losing it rapidly…

    ** I am not a member of the Democratic Party—I am far far to the Left of them. Maybe at some point I will know enough to be a Situationalist, but for now, I usually hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils, which almost always means NOT the Republican.

You obviously know nothing about history or you’d know that the Democratic party was filled with KKK clansmen and Grand Wizards from the 1950′s thru 1980′s. It was the Republican party which helped the African-Americans gain their civil rights in the 1960′s! Not the Democrats! The Democrats keep minorities in financial slavery by providing them with govt assistance and “project” style housing. If someone gives you everything you need to exist and makes life easy for you, what’s the impetus to change? What’s the motivation to work hard in school and industry? NONE
      That’s not liberation, that’s a form of slavery! I grew up in a poor family but I had to work hard every night getting good grades in school so I could go to college. When it was time for me to apply for financial aid there were no “Poor White Guy” college funds, it was all bank loans that I’m still paying off.

      Further, at this point in time, the Neo-Libs have hijacked the Democratic party just as the Neo-Cons hijacked the Republican party over a decade ago. I don’t care what rhetoric comes out of their mouths, the results are the same: Indefinite Foreign Wars, Erosion of our Civil Liberties, and Destruction of our economy/currency.

      Look at the Facts:
      Obama campaigned in 2007-08 that he would:
      1) Create the most transparent govt, and would do so right away by repealing the Patriot Act. He’s extended it TWICE since then. Unrefutable fact.
      2) He would immediately end the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The Iraq war defaulted to the original Bush timeline, so Obama had NOTHING to do with that ending. Afghanistan rages on, and we’ve gotten involved in Libya, Egypt, bombing in Yemen, and we’re supplying Syrian rebels with arms. Nothing like keeping the war machine going…
      3) He promised he’d close Guatanamo Bay. Still open…
      4) He promised to be a Constitutional president who would never go after guns. What’s he doing today? On top of that he’s passed the NDAA the last 2 years in a row with very specious language which allows the govt to detain American Citizens in America indefinitely with no due process. He also supported HR 347 which gives the Secret Service carte blanche in deciding who is a threat and that they can detain said “threats” indefinitely while suspending Habeas Corpus. The NDAA also allows the Executive Branch to declare Martial Law at any time, even when there isn’t an apparent emergency.
      5) He promised no new taxes. What’s he doing today?
      6) He hasn’t passed a budget in almost 5 years. His answer for our country’s debt problem is just to keep raising the debt ceiling. LOL, a 5 year old could see the flaw in that! Yet when he was a Senator he lambasted the Bush administration for the deficit under Bush, which was nothing compared to what he’s done in ballooning the size of the Fed Govt.
      7) Finally, the one thing that came true: Obamacare. He did make good on that promise, but the GAO just released a report last week saying that Obamacare will cost Americans $6.2 Trillion more than first estimated. WOOPS! I guess that was the Republicans fault too huh?

      But the truth of it is, is that Obama is really continuing many of the Bush policies and being even more aggressive in terms of eroding civil liberties. It’s all part of the plan, which has been in motion for at least 2 decades now, and you’re playing right into it.

      I always find it funny how libs were so highly critical of Bush (which I was too) but when your own guy is in office he can get away with the same awful, criminal behavior but none of you have a problem with that. Just because Bush is no longer in office doesn’t mean we can go back to sleep as a nation and stop questioning our govt. Your boy Obama ain’t no saint, and to be honest, everyone in a position of power must be questioned if we’re to live in a “Free” country.

      Btw, I’ve never voted Republican in my life. I see the 2 party system as a giant con.

        You are correct in a lot of what you say. Obama did run on things he’s found it very difficult to accomplish. All Presidents discover governing is a lot tougher than campaigning. Guantanamo is still open because Congressional Republicans made closing it virtually impossible as a political matter. Demagoguery can always work – at least for a short time – and Republicans have been able to scare people about Guantanamo with images of terrorists moving to Kansas. It even takes great political courage to try a terrorism suspect in an Article 3 Court even though those courts have been much tougher on terrorists than have military tribunals. The Republicans want an issue, so they make it sound like trial in a District Court is a gift to the terrorists. Nothing could be further from the truth, but truth sometimes means little in politics.

        I take issue with your historical analysis. Of course, until the 60s the worst racists were Democrats, the Southern Democrats. What is interesting and instructive is not that they called themselves Democrats because Lincoln had been a Republican. Everybody knows that. The Dixiecrats were an embarrassing appendage to the Northern Party, and it was Northern Democrats and Republicans working together that passed civil rights legislation over Southern filibusters. In the 50s and 60s, party label didn’t convey as much information as it does today. Many Republicans were to the left of many Democrats. What is interesting is how quickly the Dixiecrats all became Republicans and how the South became the base of the Republican Party within just a few years of LBJ’s pushing through the civil rights acts of the mid 60s. More recently, that same Republican Party expelled all moderates, so the North is now nearly Republican-free.

        We now have possibly the most polarized political landscape in our history. Every Republican is well to the right of every Democrat. Say someone is a D or an R and you know 80% of what you need to know about him. The choice has never been more stark between the parties, and the independence of Senators, particularly the Republicans, has virtually disappeared. You may think you’re voting for Senator A or Senator B, but in reality, and to a much larger degree than even 20 or 30 years ago, you’re voting for Reid or McConnell.

        Good job, Bob!. I have used the “moderate progressive conservative” label or some variant thereof a number of times on PLD and no one has ever questioned it. You have impressed me yet again.

        Perhaps putting three multi-syllabic words together overloaded some brains? I said it semi-jokingly, but we could get into a long-winded debate over it and I could (somewhat) justify using those three terms together like that. Doing so is certainly nowhere near as egregious an abuse of the language and logic as we see from some on the site, Vigilant for example, since you mentioned his name. (And I won’t ask why you are defending Vigilant, although my fast-moving and pattern-seeking Anterior Cingulate Cortex brain has come up with several answers already).

        The truth is, I was once quite conservative, more moderate on some issues, but not on most. As the Repugnants ran screaming past me into La-La land on the far right, I just stood still and suddenly became a “moderate” conservative. As the TP craziness and the “Party of NO” malaise struck the country, culminating with the 2012 primaries, I again stood still but found myself a “moderate progressive” (and one with a few Libertarian leanings). I am still quite conservative in my desire to preserve the best things about this country.

        From the day I first posted a comment on PLD, I have been labelled a communist, liberal, progressive, Marxist, no-brain, half-brain, socialist, Obama loving, unpatriotic, etc.etc.etc, whatever by the fools. It’s all just labels, Bob, and doesn’t mean a whole lot anymore—-in my mind, ideas are more important, and all the parroting of labels just gets in the way of those good ideas those on the right may have to offer..

I wish we could have a real dialog in this country about where this country is headed. Conservatives can criticize people like McCain in the Republican Party but liberals follow their leaders as if they were in a cult . They have drank the kool-aid and no matter what they will follow Obama. As a conservative with libertarian leanings, it is easy for me to see things that both parties do that are wrong. I am a liberal and by that I mean I believe that the resources of our world should be used judiciously with top priority going to clean, renewables that are for the benefit of all not just for profit for the few. I do not believe that money knows what is top priority. It takes a mind to figure that out. Let me give you an example. We produce huge quantities of soda cans and soda every year. In itself, this may not seem such a terrible allocation of resources. However, soda has very little nutritive benefit and is replete with sugar and often caffeine. It is placed in aluminum cans and most of them are not recycled. This wastes a valuable resource for a product of dubious value. If our world’s people and ecologies were healthy and their other requirements being met, this would be fine. As it is, it is foolish.
        You, as a conservative probably are against conservation and could care less if billions are ignorant and starving and our air, land, and water is filled with poisons of our own making which could be avoided using our scientific knowledge. As a liberal, I do not support every measure of so-called liberals like Obama. He is far from liberal and is just another tool of the military-industrial plutocrats who run this country. He throws a few bones to the less fortunate, which I am grateful for, but he still responds to the bidding of the plutocrats such as the NDAA 2012 and the Drone Program which were both supported in a bipartisan fashion.
        Note how Sen. Graham-Cracker said people accused of being terrorism did not need their rights to a lawyer or a trial. In other words, the government should be able to throw anyone it wants in jail without due process. It is just as evil when he says it as when Obama says it.

As i stated since last summer..the wacked extremists have had thier 15 minutes of fame..and they are now being marginalized as pushed outside the circles of having any serious input into policy.

        They did it to themselves…but to hear them tell it, it's not their fault, it's everyone is against them and a massive fraud against the American people.         It is Republicans not repugs and there has been no compromise displayed at any time in Obama’s term. Maybe he is secretly willing to compromise but nobody lets him say, and mean it.

        Selective itemization of things different Republicans say or believe is misleading.

        Regulating any person, business or organization can be for the good or for bad. To oppose regulations is not necessarily bad.

        There is more than two sides to climate change. Liberals, for the most part, seem to believe that climate change (global warming) is caused by man. Some have stated that climate change (global warming) is not happening. Many believe that climate change is happening and it is a natural and cyclical property of the Earths biosphere. This last group may even believe that man has contributed to the speed and scope of the change with his greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and by causing desertification.

        While, I don’t believe in Romney’s taxation ideas, I also don’t agree with Obama’s insane idea that increasing taxes on the rich will solve the deficit and debt problem. There needs to be a way to close the tax gap on capital gains, by stock investing, that is transferring wealth to the rich, while not creating any jobs or services to the country.

        Although Iran is a concern, North Korea is a greater threat. To advocate indiscriminate bombing to eliminate these problems is not a good way to solve them. However, allowing an unstable government to obtain nuclear weapons and develop delivery systems is not a wise move.

        Saying that conservatives believe that the Earth is 9,000 years old is wrong. If someone says that, then that is their personal opinion. Many Christians take some passages of the Bible too literally. It talks about God creating the Universe in 6 days and resting on the 7th. If they look to other parts of the Bible they will find that Gods days are not Mans days. A God day may have been 1,000 years or even much longer. Maybe 1,000 years to man is just a minute to God. That would make a God year equal 31.5 million Man years.

        Your assertion that conservatives are insane has no factual logic to back it up, it is simply your opinion.

Climategate is a dead issue—it is 3+ years old and several independent investigations have cleared all the scientists involved of any alleged “wrongdoing”. Climategate was an attempt by AGW deniers to smear some good scientists and it failed—MISERABLY. One of the scientists accused, Michael Mann, formerly at UVA where he and the university were sued by our crazed VA attorney general, KookyNellie, over access to Mann’s papers, has come out smelling like a rose. KookyNellie was laughed out of court. There have been attempts to raise similar issues in what has been called Climategate 2 and even a Climategate 3, and they have failed also. I would expect that the AGW deniers will soon abandon this failed tactic—-The Koch brothers and the other fossil fuel interests that support the global warming deniers don’t like to waste their money.

But with the BBA, it would become lawful & constitutional, as long as the total spending doesn’t exceed the limits (unless they waive the limits). With the BBA, it will become lawful for them to appropriate funds for whatever the President (who will write the budget) says![3]

        I have never blamed Bush for the collapse of 2007 but he was a contributor. You do realize Congress makes the laws, not Obama and since 2010, the GOP in the Senate have put forth record amounts of filibusters so even if what you say was remotely true (its not) that Obama’s economic policies are responsible for all the badness now and in the future, he hasn’t had the ability to put forth much of his agenda.

        Obama is just another corporatist. The blame for the mess mainly fails on Reagan, Clinton and their Congresses. Big Money in the political process, not Obama, is the real problem. That reaches across areas of regulation, trade, spending and taxes. We can have a true recovery unless all those areas are addressed.

        Too much fear mongering goes on here to have an intelligent conversation about the true fixes to this country economically.

            Hugo could have done greater good if he had taken a free market approach, but when you privatize the investment of foreign companies, it’s not like putting out a welcome mat for foreign investment.       Actually, a filibuster is a tool of last resort, when they won’t listen to reason through normal dialogue. While, Dave, you might say that a filibuster delays or maybe even stops congressional action, it also can be said to provide new and better ideas for change. Working to solve the problems of this country is what they are trying to do. Why do you always accuse the conservatives of failure to compromise when it takes both sides being intransigent to cause gridlock. What compromise do you claim Obama’s administration offered? How about this as a compromise. For every single additional dollar taken in the new obsessive tax increases, the government must reduce spending. Dollar for Dollar, not other solution is acceptable. That is not a demand, it is a concession for what Obama received in his DEMANDS for new taxes.

      Ideology is the basis for everyone’s beliefs and actions. To say that your ideology is superior to someone else is normal, but it does not make it true.           Perception is a funny thing. I see no compromise from liberals, it is always their way or no way at all. They push their anti-christian morals on us and then berate us for pushing Christian morals on them. They always want more taxes, even though anyone with any common sense knows that more taxes wont solve the deficit. They cry that poor people cant afford the time and money to get photo ID’s but the last time I checked, you need one to get food stamps. I hate to pigeon hole people but, it seems that is it liberals that support Obama’s policies. I don’t see what policies he has that are worthy of support.           Apples and oranges here. First, it is an incorrect statement to say that AHC is a government takeover of health care. The AHC has nothing to do with healthcare, it is about health care insurance. And, in that respect it is a form of government control when you force people to purchase healthcare insurance by levying a fine for non-compliance. On the subject of VA medical care, that is an earned benefit. You might want to check out the facts on eligibility for their service. It is not free unless you meet certain requirements. If your condition is not service connected and you dont have a rated service connected disability then you must pay for services. There is also a requirement to provide them with a supplemental insurance policy for some things. The amount of your co-pay is dependent on your level of income. If you are above about $1,200 a month in income you have large co-pays. I am qualified for VA medical care, but my income puts me at a level that it is not a financial benefit for me.

          There is no need to list facts that prove AGW does not exist. GW exists and it is being exacerbated to a small degree from man. The items I listed before are valid contributors to GW which is a part of GCC. There is even the position that GW is driving GCC.

    Mr. Root has evidently read something that I haven’t read, or he has not taken a close read of the official response (from Eric Holder) to a question, which Sen. Paul never asked in the first place. Holder simply reformed Paul’s question and then proceeded to give an answer (it’s posted on the web) that was already given in the “white paper” recently leaked to NBC and republished on the net. The president, contrary to Mr. Root’s assertion, didn’t “blink” at all; Holder’s written response only repeated the original position from the “white paper” regarding the president’s authority under the AUMF and Article 2 of the Constitution. He didn’t even answer Sen. Paul’s actual question to him and neither did Eric Holder. I would strongly suggest that Mr. Root perform a closer inspection of what actually came from the White House, via Holder, in the form of a written response. It wasn’t anything like the characterization that Mr. Root appears to be applying in this article and I would caution him that it’s dangerous and fool-hearted to suggest that a particular “victory” has been won, when in fact the actual documents show precisely the opposite to be the case.

        In 2003 the demonrats tried Eight times in Twenty-two months to get a bill passed that would eliminate the “natural born citizen” qualification, so that obammie could be president. It is all in the Congressional Record.

        When they failed, they just put obammie on the throne to be King and ignored the Constitution. The illegal foreigner wasn’t elected, “he was selected” to do the “dirty work” no one wanted to do.

        It was planned that obammie be put in the presidency at least since 2003 if not earlier.

        Even with Soros owning the voting machines in 26-States that included 900 precincts, obammie won the presidency with only a few hundred thousand votes. Maybe Rand Paul needs to make a second run and draw attention to this issue as well. The dead Seals and the tortured Ambassador deserve to have the truth surface.

      That is quite a stretch of the imagination compared to what Rand Paul actually said about the 14th Amendment.

      The part of the 14th Amendment which he spoke of revising was limited only to the initial sentence, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.” – which would seem proper given the fact that this part is often used to expedite the position of amnesty to illegal aliens, not to mention, the power to creates rules for citizenship and naturalization was given to Congress in Article 1 Section 8 Clause 4, and was done in the United States Code Title 8 USC § 1401 and Title 8 USC § 1481.

      As for his claim that he didn’t agree with the Civil Rights Act Title 2 which made it a crime for businesses to discriminate… was in response to an abstract question. He said, “I’m not in favor of any discrimination of any form. I would never belong to any club that excluded anybody for race.” But pointed out that, “We still do have private clubs in America that can discriminate based on race.”. It’s the idea of private property versus public property. For example, I have the right to discriminate against anyone for any reason in my own home, and that such right extends to private property businesses. He said, “…if you decide that restaurants are publicly owned and not privately owned, then do you say that you should have the right to bring your gun into a restaurant even though the owner of the restaurant says ‘well no, we don’t want to have guns in here’ the bar says ‘we don’t want to have guns in here because people might drink and start fighting and shoot each-other.’ Does the owner of the restaurant own his restaurant? Or does the government own his restaurant? These are important philosophical debates but not a very practical discussion…”

      This makes complete sense. Find an all-black club and walk in being the only white guy and see if you are not discriminated against.

        This is the exact same justification used by white private restaurant owners, bus company owners, movie theatre owners, store owners etc. in the South who all denied African Americans from entering their places of business or segregated them within those places of business strictly on the basis of their race for nearly a century. This is illegal in the United States thanks to the 1964 Civil Rights Act based on the 14th Amendment. Rand Paul wants to make this racist behavior legal again, as apparently do you and many other posters on this site.

    Rand Paul endorsed Mittens, when his dad, Ron Paul, consistently refused to endorse Romney or rally behind the GOP. Why? That in itself should be viewed with suspicion. Add to that, the fact that Rand supported the sanctions against Iran and one begins to recognize a sheep in wolf’s clothing. A hero? I think not! I think Rand smells the money, the prestige and the power wafting from the political-establishment, and he likes what he smells. I’m afraid that yet another, has crossed-over to the dark-side.

        I concur, but he is still young, and seems committed to the fundamental principles of liberty and freedom, while standing against government over-reach of power in the midst of perpetual undeclared wars. As far as I can tell, his two main objectives which have put him in the spotlight even of the mainstream media is his fight against the TSA and his more recent filibuster which I think showed some of the fire of his father when it came to the very important question of assassinating American citizens on American soil (after it had already been done abroad) for no other reason than being a suspected “terrorist” (criminal).

        I think that loyalty to a party is not important, but rather, loyalty first to the Constitution, then to the people (liberty), before loyalty to the party. He’s being watched carefully, that’s for sure.

        You certainly don’t know what happened in that woman’s case, and you certainly won’t get an objective account from the right wing trash you read. If her property has been improperly assessed, I’m sure she has judicial remedies. I have seen many people lose their cool in situations where they are sure they are right. Generally, it is boorish behavior that gets them in trouble far more than the merits of the case. If she was loud enough and threatened to come back with a gun, that might spook law enforcement a lot more than if she had threatened to come back with a lawyer. I’m sure her reading of the Constitution was not the cause of her being arrested. Besides, one doesn’t read the entire Constitution at an assessment hearing. The 5th Amendment maybe, but what does the rest of the Constitution have to do with the issue at bar?

        Turning this into a political issue is like taking one instance of police shooting an unarmed Black man and turning it into a War on all Black people.

Insider trading, fraud, corruption, mislabeling, using the court systems to stall litigation, hiding off shore gains, selling worthless insurance policies and junk bonds.

        Now do I blame you for this? ~ No~ I don’t. ~ I blame the leadership provided by the Grand Old Party and the people that engage in gambling on Wall Street that have been permitted to steal with both hands and take offense we asked when asked to use just one hand instead of two.

            When our Fearless Leader (W The Imbecile) talked about bringing real democracy to Iraq, I remember my reaction was two-fold. First, “democracy” would inure to the benefit of Iran.           What Rand Paul said that was troublesome was that he had difficulty with the Civil Rights Act concerning public accommodations. He doesn’t think a “private business” can be prevented from discriminating despite its use of all sorts of public resources: police, fire, roads. Any Libertarian will sound good on the issues where you don’t want government intrusion – the bedroom, use of marijuana, etc. The problem is that they don’t believe in even the most necessary of government regulation. Rand Paul doesn’t believe in regulation of mining where miners used to die by the thousands. Something about miners not going to work for bad owners. In that regard, he’s completely divorced from the real world.
