Protester Admits Pie Attack On Murdoch

LONDON, July 29 (UPI) — A protester admitted in a London court Friday he threw a shaving cream pie at Rupert Murdoch as the media mogul testified before Parliament.

Jonathan May-Bowles, 26, a part-time comedian who goes by the name Jonnie Marbles, is to be sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court to assault and causing harassment, alarm or distress.

He requested a delay because of a previously scheduled vacation, but his lawyer was told an arrest warrant would be issued if he did not show up, the BBC reported.

Judge Daphne Wickham declared: “He is on bail for a serious offense, which carries a risk of imprisonment. He should have thought about this … when he committed these offenses.”

Leaving court, May-Bowles said, “I would just like to say this has been the most humble day of my life,” copying Murdoch’s statement to the House of Commons committee that questioned him on the phone-hacking scandal.

Two hours into the July 20 hearing, May-Bowles rushed forward with a paper plate filled with foam. He was tackled by a group of people, including Murdoch’s much younger wife, Wendi Deng.

The hearing resumed after a few minutes.
