Praises, Criticisms Of Kerry-Lieberman Climate Bill Continue

May 20, 2010 by

Praises, criticisms of Kerry-Lieberman climate bill continue In the days since Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) introduced their energy and climate bill proposal, unions, industry groups and other stakeholders have continued to express their views that span an entire spectrum of opinions.

Among powerful unions, the United Steelworkers has praised the bill for its provisions to limit carbon "leakage," i.e. reduce incentives for production of goods to move to countries that fail to address global climate change.

Public Service Enterprise Group, a publicly traded energy company, has expressed a similar opinion, with its representatives stating that the proposal has the potential to protect consumers and provide the regulatory and legislative certainty needed "to unleash investment and create jobs."

They added that the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico underscores the importance of a comprehensive energy policy that achieves fuel diversity and "puts a price on carbon."

However, the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association appeared to be alarmed by the proposed carbon mandates. Its Executive Vice President and general counsel Gregory M. Scott stressed that carbon reduction mandates won’t have any impact on climate change because they apply only to vehicles, power plants, refineries and manufacturing facilities in the United States and ignore the soaring carbon dioxide emissions from rapidly industrializing countries.

"The draconian carbon reduction targets and timetables in this bill would trigger destructive change in America’s economic climate," Scott said, adding that "this would add billions of dollars in energy costs for American families and businesses, destroy the jobs of millions of American workers and make our nation more dependent on foreign energy sources."

AS i’ve stated on another thread, Government tax and regulation and the Enviro-wack-jobs, have done a fine job of choking and destroying ALL the industry and jobs we had here. The destructive change begun Twenty five years ago, when our town was thriving. The abandoned plants now lie in waste. With bits and pieces of them bought and sold, as quickly as time passes. These enviro wack jobs and climate idiots, just don’t get it!__I guess it’s hard to see, out of they’re posh office windows, into the industrial plants, where the ghosts of people, who used to make a living to feed and clothe their families still remain. No one says there shouldn’t be some type of regulation to keep from poisoning our waters and lands. There is plenty to be done. But the companies were squeezed, taxed and regulated to death and were either driven elsewhere, offshore or simply shut down___Your got your way here in our town, EPA!
I hope your satisfied!!!___CARBON CREDITS MY AZZ!__If you need money that bad, everyone else is writing a book these days, why don’t you have at it!!

    • Claire

angel–Maybe we should write a book and become rich. The only problem is that people probably wouldn’t want to read any book I write! lol

  • http://www.lostnation.blogspot.com Jeryl D

Not only that, but any technology which the government cannot control or big business dominate will be squelched, such as scalar technology. It has the capacity to remove any home using it off the power grid.

    • angel-wanna-be

JerylD, Let them do what they will, they have anyway. I have oil lamps, a woodstove, with 9 acres thats family owned. I grown and can my own food. Our son is a large equiptment operator. If need be I’ll have him open up the well for water. My pantry is full and we know how to protect ourselves. I’ve had a hard life, I know how to live despite hardship!_I’m not afraid. If God is with us, who can be aganist us.

      • Claire

        angel–Good for you!

  • Al Sieber

I don’t understand how they got anyone to believe that carbon dioxide is the cause. the earth goes through these cycles naturally, and co2 is part of the cycle.

    • angel-wanna-be

AL Sieber, that’s what I always said, some winters are warmer than others, some summers are cooler. All things revolve around cycles. These Wack jobs, managed to indoctrinate the current generation, to the point, they don’t want to, or can no longer think for themselves. They inturn believe everything these supposed brains say. These idiots won’t be happy until, we all have wind turbines in our backyards and there is no coal mines, oil refineries or industry of any kind, anywhere.

      • Al Sieber

Angel, I live in N.W. Ariz. and usually in May it’s 100 degree already, this year just when you think it’s gonna get hot, it cools down 10 degrees, and some summers it just doesn’t get that hot, cycles, not global warming.

        • angel-wanna-be

Al Sieber, we live on the upper east coast, we had a week of 90 degrees in early spring, but it cooled down aqgain and it 85 today!
And we’ve had winters here, where we’ve had very little or no snow at all. Then Back in the 90′s we had 35 inches of snow, in one snowfall!! I’d like to tell these climatologists and eviromental wack jobs, to get a real job and stop dreaming stuff up!__The earth was here a hell of a lot longer than any of us are going to be.
I don’t believe we should purposly go around poisoning our waters and lands, each should do our part_ but I don’t believe in all this Global warming crap either, I think it’s a money making scam and more control!

        • I’m just sayin

          Al S.,
Out on the north/central west coast we have had snow for the last 3 years. Before that we only had snow 2 times in the previous 15 years. This is NOT global warming as Al Gores Inconvenient LIE foretells. This is definitely a cooling trend. The ice packs in the Bearing Sea have formed earlier, and farther to the south the last few years than they have before.

    • Brian

Amen Al Sieber Prove it then tell Al Gore if he is speaking in a seminare not to leave his car running or we will tax him for every min. it’s ideling (he did this while speaking at a seminalr about polution what a joke).

  • s c

Show me someone who finds ways to praise Airhead Kerry, Putz Lieberman or ‘Duh’ Gore and I’ll show you someone who needs to be a permanent resident in a mental ward. The #1 priority for these space cadets is to give themselves an unending source of easy money, and WE get to pay for it.
What’s the difference between these slimers and corporation robber barons who are normally the object of those who claim to care about the environment? There is NO difference!
This entire administration is so corrupt that anyone who’s in prison now should be enraged that those traitors and con artists aren’t behind bars with them. They are PROOF that they must be removed from office and their pensions hit with a special robber baron TAX [REDISTRIBUTE THAT WEALTH!].
They are no different than an invading army, and they will continue to screw us until we toss their treasonous arses OUT.

Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) operates North America’s only cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases, with global affiliates and projects worldwide.

    See also the parent company.

    http://www.climateexchangeplc.com/

There are over 47,000,000 shares of stock issued for a company that originated in 1995 and does not have a reason for existance asside from pending cap and trade legislation. Why would someone buy stock in a company that currently has no source of income? And just as important is who has bought shares of this company? From answering these questions you can find the real driving force behind this legislation.

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Are there still those who believe in this global warming crap? Al Gore came up with this to get rich. He doesn’t believe any of it. His whole part in this scheme was to make everyone else believe it. He probably bribed a lot people to go along with this by cutting them in on the deal. He got credible people to stand with him on this issue and now they are reaping the rewards.

I live in Indiana. This has been the coldest May I think I have experienced living here. So many people can get sucked in to this hype and that is all that it is!

  • eddie47d

If we want to be the leader of the world, and we are by far, then we need to set the example. It will be a slow process for there are too many variables. (China,India and emerging countries). If their pollution reaches our country that will have to be factored in reducing the cost to our companies. Many industrial plants were closed because it was cheaper to get raw and manufactured goods elsewhere (cheap labor). That goes for steel, clothing and even computers. I don’t like vacant factories and people out of work but ask any business and they will tell you that’s how the world works. I’m not sure if America will loose more jobs since we have hemorraged enough already.Unless more jobs are brought BACK to America to reduce our debt then not much will matter anyway. I certainly want a clean and healthy earth and as an environmentalists I know we have to do alot of compromising with the business community to keep jobs in this country. We have alot of good alternative energy sources so there is little reason to be more dependent on foreign enery resources. We just need the will to adapt to a changing world. I’m for a climate bill but still leery of cap and trade. It could be just a shell game between companies or maybe an insentive to clean up after themselves.

  • chuck b

we don’t need a climate bill, we need to use the law on the books. first eliminate the epa, this is the most dangerous political agency in the world and they are destroying our country. shut the so called environmentalist down, this is nothing but a subversive political org.

the education system is responsible for a lot of our problem by brainwashing these little knuckle heads in the schools and when they grow up and some never do, they are out to change the world.

the environmental lobby is pushing for all this green crap and its just that. the ones crying the loudest are like al gore, they are manufacturing wind mills and solar panels, we even have sublet some of this manufacturing out to foreign countries like china and others.we are paying them with money we borrow from them, smart huh!
why are kerry and lieberman pushing this, just look at their districts and you will find the answer.

solar panels and wind mills are not the answer. oil is our answer and if we continue to let these lame brains steer us away with this green illusion, you might as well start practicing to ride a bike again.
if the people keep voting these numb skulls back into office and i’m afraid they will, we will continue down this path. they have their reinforcement votes pouring across our borders each day.

    • Claire

We wouldn’t need a climate bill if everyone would clean up after themselves and quit using chemicals. (Plus the fact I am sick of seeing dirty Pampers in the mall parking lot.) I remember when I was a kid we had well water and never had e-coli. Now if a person drinks well water they damn near die. My family had huge gardens and canned everything that was edible. Now we have to be careful because of all the chemicals and fertilizers, etc. in the earth.
We had our inground pool taken out in 1997. I called a dirt company here in town and ordered 15 big truck loads of dirt to be hauled in to fill the huge hole. I told them I wanted “clean” dirt, no farm ground etc. and they promised me it would be clean dirt. Well, guess what, after they dumped the dirt, leveled it out, I let the dogs out to do their business. Out of the 5 dogs I had at the time 3 of them broke out in hives. I had to take them to the vet. One of the dogs was so bad her throat almost closed. Needless to say I had to walk the dogs and take them to a different place to run. It was a nightmare. We hosed down that dirt 4-5 times a day like maniacs for 2 weeks. It was nothing but mud but I think it helped to water it so much along with the rain. Then we laid sod. I do not use any chemicals on my yard or flowers.

    • Brian

chuck b I beive you have it part right but we need to temper our use of Texas tea with new renwable sources of energy also Oil will reach 5.00$ a gallon in the US this summer watch and see. it’s been 7 and 8 dollars a gallon elsware for a long time. Yes lets drill and free up our oil for our use but lets use new sources also. Thats the way wee show these gentalmen how the U.S. is Strong and resourceful.

  • chuck b

For all of you out there in America and across the globe who have fought so hard to tackle that hideous enemy of our planet,
carbon emissions, ( you know, the stuff first discovered by that Nobel Scientist Al Gore) I have some really bad news
that will be very painful for you to process. But, it is my duty to pass it on to you anyway.

    Are you sitting down?

Okay, here’s the bombshell. The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, since it first started spewing volcanic ash a week or so ago, has to this point, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet. Not only that, this single act of God has added emissions to the earth estimated to be 42 times more than can be corrected by the extreme human regulations that have been proposed for annual reductions.

I know, I know…. (now have a group hug)…it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying reusable fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid’s “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, going on vacation to a city park instead of to Yosemite, nearly getting hit by a car every day while riding your bicycle to work, replacing all of your one dollar light bulbs with ten dollar fluorescent light bulbs that don’t give as much light or last as long (and you cannot dispose-of ANYWHERE legally)…well, all of those things you have been doing all this time, at great inconvenience and great expense, have all gone down the tubes in just the past week…

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in the past week has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce that evil beast, carbon. And, those hundreds of thousands of American jobs you helped move to Asia with expensive emissions demands that were put on American businesses… you know, the ones over there that are creating even more emissions than when the companies stayed home, creating American jobs? Well that must all seem really worthwhile now.

I’m so sorry. And I do wish that there was some kind of a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is, the brush fire season across the western U.S.A. will start in about two months and those fires will negate all your efforts to reduce carbon emissions in our world for the next two years!

So grab a Coke, sing ‘Cumbaya’, give the world a hug, and have a nice day while Al Gore contemplates suicide!

Unfortunately Al Gore is not contemplating suicide – he is too busy counting the millions he made on speaking tours b##sh%%ting the world about the problem that really does’nt exist.

Chuck B, Right On Chuck!__It’s all BS!

    • I’m just sayin

      Great post Chuck!!

    • Brian

We can help stop forest fires to just cut down some of them and replant yea it will take time to replentish the trees but right now we watch Thousands if not millions of akers burn for no returen but CO2 we coud bring the cost of lumber back down and put people to work and bring in more taxes all in one move “Wow” now that’s what I call solving the problems at hand! No applause please I am a Humbel dude!

That the lies were substantiated by the scientist, with very questionable methods, is one thing. That they have perpetrated this scam on the people of the world creating an industry of cap and trade which made tons of money for some while stifling the growth of others. Causing the advancement of global laws and regulations that will have no reason for their existences other than this scam science. Several nations are still pushing ahead with climate change initiatives that will further retard their industrial growth for many years to come. That the lies are now open and on display is one thing that major players are still acting like it is the truth still is the main catastrophe. The scientist involved should be further investigated as if it were an organized criminal activity where did they get this goal surely it was not the facts. It sure sounds like a conspiracy on some groups part and that is what should be investigated. What this will do is place more money in the hands of the Government, and congress just loves funds that they can use for their own, this is going to be another incidents of the congress dipping into the coffers to fund their pet projects nothing like the pay as you go rhetoric they have been telling us that they are going to do. And if the program is so great why have they exempted themselves from participating? Are they a separate class of citizen? The newly planned climate change bill has in it a resolve to turn back carbon emissions to levels found before the 1800′s. The rich will enjoy the Carbon credits market but the job market will further lose jobs, as industry is forced to further cut back to meet these improbable levels.

edyee, I knew that you would the indoctrinated b–l s–t feed to you be the educated socialist unionized teachers in school. Climate change has and always be as load of dung. The bildge spounted by greenies and other eleit dumbasses trying to save the world ideology is a laugh. The EPA is one of the biggest waster of energy and kill more businesses than taxes being raised ever will. Most grteenies and evior morons never leave a park or the comfort zone. No bambi dungs in the water, carry gangilia, fleas, chronic wasting disease, bangs disease, vibrosis just for a start. Wilderness is not pristine, nor clean, lots of dead carausses, oi; seeps, methane gasses, moutain erosion, now add in the excessive fertizlation of lawns and OMG chemicals. The average lawn any where in any city or town receives over 50 times the amount of fertilizer and chemicals than any farm ground or pasture land does. The max of fertilize on an acre of wheat isusually only 10 ibs., per growing season, laws average 1000 lbs per acre, at multilevels of phosurous, pitassimun, and nitrogen. So when eleitist greenies and f#@&*>g tree hugging grass eaters who live in gated communities, go hang your self. Farmers, ranchers, loggers, and any other group that make their livingoff of the land don’t hurt their lively hood like pavement pounders and educated over paid morons. Paper shuffling wonks come up with redundant multi dream land crap. What should we expect for a spoiled multi language speaking eleitist, who has screwed his way to wealth more was than one? Lieberman always a liberal, never meet a law he doesn’t like. It will pass no doubt, because of the likes of Gore, OHusian, and their money fund Freedie and Fannie with shares in the carbon credit scam, along with all the radicalUSA haters, like socialist G. Soros bank rolling the marxist democrat party. Watch and see how fast jobs will drop and companies more some where or just fold. Get to drilling on land and put people to work with high paying jobs, and pay off China and break the muslim dictators, like Onumnut’s muslim brothers or ilk!

      i41,
Drop me out of that group! I don’t use anything at all on my lawn! I mow and let nature water it, I got enough to do!

  • Jim H.

If you look at what the agenda in Copenhagen last summer, It wasn’t about trying to develop new technology to prevent greenhouse gasses, or ways to conserve. It was about how much they could tax these out put of gasses. When someone buys a carbon credit they aren’t eliminating any output, they are just paying someone so they can make the output( what did that solve?). I bought 5 million calorie offsets and I’m still fat. How much should we tax cow flatulence? Does that herd of flatulating bison get a free pass because they are wild animals? What are “they” going to do with the tax and fine money “they” collect?

  • eddie47d

Chuck B.;If volcanos are an act of God then God must be trying to tell us something;but it might not be in your favor. You come across as a negative quiter. Maybe everyone should go out and commit suicide since you make it sound like it’s all downhill so why try.

    • I’m just sayin

      eddie47duh;
Maybe you would like to help Al Gore commit suicide right after he gets done counting ALL the money he’s made off his global warming lies. Then you can steal it, retire, and you won’t have to work for ACORN bloggong here any more.

i don’t live on bubbles, if you see smoke coming out the windows of your house there is a great possibility your house is on fire, you liberal types will back off and wait for the fire dept, i’ll try to fight the fire until help arrives. god told us something two thousand years ago and we haven’t yet, listened to all he had to say.

It depend who you are chuch b, ted turner bought several thousand acres in SD and Neb. and dumped a several thousand of buffalo out last fall. This winter it was a pretty wet, snowy, and long season,a couple thousand or more died, a rancher hired by the government to take care of 35 head of buffalo from Mt, agreeing to pay him month to month. They didn’t pay him for several months and he told them to come and get them, when the blizzards hit they lost 5 head I think, they arrested him for not taking care of livestock, but ted got by ok, since he claimed the were native species, and if you take a plane ride it looks like big dead black flies on the ppraires.. The rancher was taken to a federal court and lost every thing he own and cann’t own a pet for 25 years.. Sounds more like a dictator’s dream favor your friends. I think edyee needs a time out to look at his favorite Sarah Sports Illastrated jogging section, he has been a little off his feed lately.

They should quit screwing around with all of their so-called agendas and get that damn oil mess taken care of. Obama is doing nothing but appeasing BP. The oil has reached Louisiana. This is going to be a catastrophe that will never end. I am really aggravated over this. A month has gone by, nothing accomplished. These oil companies have no business drilling offshore UNLESS they have the technology and equipment to stop a disaster like this. As I said before, just wait until all the dead marine life wash up on shore. No more shrimp, clams, lobster for me. Will any of these foods be edible after all this? It will take years to clean up this mess. This administration is nothing but a sham, a bunch of do-nothings, all of them are literally worthless. A bunch of mealy-mouthed hypocrites in action–this is our current government.

  • Robert Pgh Pa

we do not need any of that. we need 200 nuclear power plants. they do not polute the air and the radioactive resado can be re prossed to generate more uranium from spent fuel rods. that can make more energy. that is what france is doing. and they do not have a problem with waste because the bury it at the nuclear plant. the stuff will probably be able later to be reprossed again when they discover new ways to get more energy from the burried waste. France has over a hundred nuclear plants and have no ploblems. we invented it and they use it, but our envirmental wackos want guarenteed perfection, which only God can do. Pittsburgh built the first nuclear power plant and they had no problems and they decommissoned the plant 2 years ago 53

  • Robert Pgh Pa

53 years and no one complained. The only thing to do is let them so their stuff and no carbon emitted, no oil needed. oh but we have the largest oil feild in the world in colorado, but the enviromentalists do not like us to drill. we have 2 giant fields in alaska that they wont let us to drill. they want us to live like cavemen. they really want to contoll us as slaves. thats it rule the slaves that we have dummed down to stupid. then they can live as they want and they are exempt from all the rules, but we are tied up in knots.

  • eddie47d

Nobodies tying you up in knots Pa,Bp and many other companies have proven that they don’t have all their ducks in order. They are not prepared and the government has to step in and coddle them to get their messes cleaned up. You mentioned Colorado but forgot to mention the Sumitville Mine and how much money the state and federal government had to pay out to get it cleaned up. There’s nothing wrong with using natural resources but stop being like schools kids who have to be told to clean up after themselves. I don’t need my tax money bailing you out all the time. It’s so un-liberal to have to use a Republican slogan like that. Besides Colorado doesn’t have the worlds largest deposit of oil,not even in their oil shale deposits. They do have a very large natural gas deposit.
