New research suggests that antioxidants may play a role in helping men and women with infertility issues.

Although findings are still inconclusive, data indicates that antioxidants may improve fertility and clinical trials are being conducted to determine how effective these natural compounds will be. If successful, researchers hope these treatments could be applied to high blood pressure and congestive heart failure problems as well.

“If oxidative stress is an underlying factor causing infertility, which we think the evidence points to, we should be able to do something about it,” said researcher Tony Hagen. “This might help prevent other critical health problems as well, at an early stage when nutritional therapies often work best.”
