Police: Pinky Severed By Cigar Cutter

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Aug. 16 (UPI) — Police in Missouri say a man who said he used karate to chop off part of a victim’s pinky finger actually used a cigar cutter as part of a brutal attack.

After a guilty plea from Chris Daigneault, police in Harrison released video of a taped confession where Daigneault admitted assaulting 20-year-old Justin Marshall, KSPR-TV, Springfield, Mo., reported Tuesday.

Police say Daigneault and his mother, Linda Daniels, held Marshall against his will in April for a crime of which Marshall was innocent.

“He stated that Justin committed a theft which we found to be not true,” Harrison Police Department Capt. Paul Woodruff said.

Police said Daigneault used a cigar cutter to slice the victim’s pinky off, while Daigneault had a different version of events.

He used the cigar cutter not to cut the pinky but to keep it safe to eventually re-attach it, Daigneault said, police reported.

“I stuck it in [a freezer] because I figured he was going to end up coming back so whatever blood was still up inside of it I didn’t want it drying out,” Daigneault told police, officers recounted.

Daigneault pleaded guilty to kidnapping and battery and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
