NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (UPI) — Police in Florida said they arrested a man who saw his own wanted picture on a sheriff’s office Facebook post and decided to reply.
The Paso County Sheriff’s Office said a photo of Matthew Oliver of New Port Richey was posted on the office’s Facebook page as the “Fugitive of the Day” Wednesday morning and Oliver soon replied personally to the picture, saying he was in the hospital at the time of the alleged robbery and he was framed by a “crack head,” WTSP-TV, St. Petersburg, Fla., reported Monday.
The Pasco Fugitive Warrants account posted a reply a few hours later.
“Matthew Oliver if you would like to discuss your active warrant, please call the Fugitive Warrants Unit at 813-235-6064,” the post read.
The sheriff’s office said Oliver did not call the number and instead continued to defend his innocence in the comment thread.
“I have verified that Matt’s post about being in the hospital is true. In an earlier post, I provided a telephone number for him to call us. If he feels he does not fit the definition of the word ‘fugitive,’ I will be hearing from him,” Pasco Fugitive Warrants posted in a later comment.
However, Oliver continued to refuse to contact investigators and was arrested by deputies watching his apartment Friday.
