Police Kill Suspect In Power Plant Blast

MOSCOW, Aug. 26 (UPI) — Russian officials say a suspect in a 2010 terrorist attack on a power plant in the country’s North Caucasus republic was killed by police Friday.

The suspect was shot after he opened fire on police officers who had surrounded a house in Kabardino-Balkaria where he was staying, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said.

RIA Novosti said the man was suspected of being involved in the July 2010 attack on the Baksan hydropower plant.

A group of gunmen killed two security guards and detonated explosive devices inside the plant. Two of the suspected gunmen were killed by police several days after the attack and two other men are facing trial, the news service said.
