Police: Drunk Man Burned Neighbor’s Flag

September 10, 2013 by

PERU, Ind., (UPI) —  An Indiana man is facing a charge of desecrating a U.S. flag after allegedly drunkenly burning his neighbor’s flag.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Brett Bishop, 21, of Peru, who was arrested Saturday, admitted to deputies he had gotten drunk and armed himself with a BB gun Aug. 5 when he went into a neighbor’s yard to retrieve his dog, the Paros-Tribune, Logansport, Ind., reported Tuesday.

Bishop said he remembered going into his neighbor’s garage and stealing frozen pork from a freezer and he remembered cutting down part of his neighbor’s flag, but he didn’t recall burning the object.

Deputies said Bishop also cut his neighbor’s clothes line and left his barbecue grill turned on and left open.

Bishop was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and flag desecration.
