Plane Crashes In Siberia; 1 Killed, 3 Hurt

KYZYL, Russia, Aug. 22 (UPI) — One person was killed and three others seriously injured Monday in the crash-landing of a biplane in the Siberian republic of Tuva, Russian officials said.

Authorities said the crash occurred about 75 miles from the republic’s capital of Kyzyl.

An emergency helicopter flew to the site after survivors contacted rescuers by satellite phone.

“The rescuers are helping the injured people; after that the helicopter will fly to Kyzyl,” Tuva emergency officer Viktor Vinichenko told ITAR-Tass.

The Antonov An-2 plane, owned by private woodcutting company Sayanian Cedar, “was not registered and the flight was not scheduled,” a source in the Western Siberian transport investigation department told the news agency.
