TOLEDO, Ohio, Jan. 4 (UPI) — An Ohio man who received pecan pies from a mysterious “pie fairy” for 35 years says he received a note informing him the streak is over.

Willis “Bill” Welch, 87, of Columbus said he received the pies anonymously at Christmastime for decades, but this year he received only a note signed “Pie Fairy,” The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

“It has been a great ride,” the fairy wrote. “Still not telling you who I am yet, but my wings are shorter now and I am a little too fat to fly anymore. But I still love you!!”

Welch said the mystery person must be someone who knows him well enough to know that pecan is his favorite pie. However, he said it is difficult to narrow down, as he has a very large social circle.

He said he initially suspected his daughters, until they advised him not to eat the mystery pies in the early years. However, he did not heed the advice.

“I have an insatiable sweet tooth,” he said.
