Philanthropic organization criticizes Obama’s tax plans

April 23, 2009 by

Philanthropic organization criticizes Obama's tax plansThe Association for Healthcare Philanthropy has criticized the limits on tax deductions for charitable donations in the Obama administration’s budget.

It says the budget puts forward a scheme that would devalue charitable gifts by reducing the federal tax deductions from 35 percent to 28 percent for those who earn more than $250,000.

"In these challenging economic times, charities and nonprofits already are finding it difficult to fulfill their altruistic missions because of reduced donations and resources," the organization said in a statement.

It also suggested the federal government should promote philanthropy not make it more difficult.

Meanwhile, Americans for Tax Reform has identified another obstacle to the charitable sector in the form of itemized deduction phase-out in 2011 for married couples making $250,000 and single people making $200,000.

In the organization’s view, this limitation will make wealthy people give less to charity.

It estimates that every 1 percent decline in household charitable giving means nearly $2 billion less.

"That’s $2 billion that’s not available for churches, shelters and other worthy causes," it says.

OBAMA show us the birth certificate, this could stop.

    • Robin from Indiana

Steve…. The administration we have is in for 4 years. Even if Obama is deemed ineligible, we’re still stuck with the rest of them.

      • http://donthaveone Mark

Yeah, and now we got more more rotten egg, as Specter from Pennsylvania has shown his true colors and switched over to the dark side. One one front, I say good riddance, its good to be rid of his stench, but on the other, weve got one more dirty bird to deal with. Republicans, wake up, vote these guys out next election, as there are a couple more that lean more left than right, and they got to go also.

  • Mark

If the policians paid taxes, we would not have these problems. Matter of fact the policians would reduce tax and help us out at the same time.
But we sould not complain, because we putted them office.
I think we need to fire all the policians that break the laws!!

I think it is high time that we admit as to what we have in our White House is a true RED HERRING! This man and his ilk are determined to take this country down and make it COMMUNIST. Doesn’t anyone see this? All his programs are of SOCIALISTIC persuasion and destined to make us go BANKRUPT! It looks like he doesn’t know what he is doing, but as you know this is an old COMMIE TRICK. Rich Keene

Im a different Mark writing here, in reply to Mark. This man also is a muslim, who seeks to hide it from us. He made the statement to George Stephanopolous that something would “be an affront to his muslim faith”, and George had to step in and say, you mean your Christian faith?, and they went from there. So the next time coming out of him and his ilk, will be to attack churches and Christian organizations and start taxing them and take away the tax exempt status, because the dems love their tax dollars, becuase they tax so much that business close and have to lay off workers to pay the tax bills, that there isnt enough cash coming in, so they tax more and more, and put more people out of work. Somehow the poor and down trodden people continue to vote for these guys, when all they are about is handing them a small pittance to keep them down and dependant on the government, and these people keep voting for them. I guess we have a lot of undeducated people in this country, because if people took the time to get educated on politics, they would see that the democrats stand for big government controlling more and more, and interferring more and more in our lives, and in taxing more and more to pay for their big government. They do not stand for the poor as they have led folks to believe, as the democrats on the whole have more money than the republicans by far. The republicans believe in lowering taxes and putting more into the business pockets, so they can hire more people and put more in their pockets, yet people voted in the democrats because of the anti republican propaganda the dems threw around everywhere. Anti war propaganda, anti terrorist waterboarding propaganda, anti Abu Garab propaganda, change-change-change propaganda, without telling us a single thing about who their candidate was and what he stands for. And all these un-educated Americans bought into it, and now are seeing what they have done. They have elected a man that has no plan, no course of action, no thoughts or ideas of his own, just blindly following his party heads, who also, having spend the last 8 years bashing the Bush administration, didnt take any time to formulate a plan, just attack, attack attack. They have no idea of what to do, or how to do it, and its going to get real bad before it gets better in 4 years. There is no way in hell that the American people, after what they see he does in these 4 years, will vot him in again. They may be uneducated, but not stupid twice.

what if they DO know what they’re doing, and their goal is to take over the private industry and have everything run by the government? help hurt the economy so they can then “save” it by seizing it. Perish the thought. how do we fight them??

        • http://donthaveone Mark

Well, thats why we have to keep a diligent eye on this administrations attempt to take away guns from the citizens. They have to do that before they can accomplish taking anything away, as an armed citizenry has the capability to fight back against a government take over. The democrats for years have been trying to take away the guns, as that would clear the way for them to pull the crap they would like to pull. However, there are so many guns in this country, that if you made them illegal, the criminals would have a heyday. Its a proven fact, in places and countries that have enacted gun control, that crime has sky rocketed, because the criminal knows they are the only one with a gun. Gun control doesnt work, it only takes the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, leaving only those who would do wrong in possesion of the guns, thus creating more crime, which has played out in countries where they have tried this. It makes perfect sense. If you know a guy in the house has a gun, you might think twice about breaking in, but if you know there is no gun there, and youve got one, who is going to stop you? Its an easy mark. So before the government can start seizing things, theyve got to take the arms away from the citizens first, and when they try that there is going to be a big mess in this country, thats for sure.

        • jo

You are so right, Mark. I couldn’t have said it better myself. That’s how Hitler took over. Now, instead of going after guns directly, they’re going after ammunition, trying to restrict your ability to get it and inflate its cost. If only public would wake up to what these Washington bstrds are doing to our country!

I hear and read a whole lot of criticizing of Obama and his plans. Especially from the cheep radio talk shows like Rush Limbaugh. This criticizing does nothing but lead people to lose faith in Our Leaders. Then you have the War mongers sitting on the side lines trying to lie Our country into more War. Obama, I hope does meet with Iranian leader and have a sitdown to know what is really going on. Listening to all the lies Israel and others spread will only lead to more disaster. Persue peace, stiring up lies and strife will not lead to peace.

    • jo

Neither does embracing an enemy armed with a knife behind your back.

      • jo

        (meaning Iran has the knife)

My income is FAR less than the $250K above which charitable deductions will be reduced by 7%, and I don’t even think about the deduction factor when making contributions to the various organizations I support. How VERY SAD that rich people might not be willing to contribute as much as they have in the past solely because they’re losing a bit of the deductibility. Imagine how impressed I’ll be the next time I hear or read something extolling their generosity!

    • jo

just imagine how much the government will “solve” this problem by expanding welfare–when charities could have helped the recipients better and with private dollars.

  • Alexa

This is what happens when you have an inexperience president with no administration and budget skills to act like a “Big Shot” and making this economy much worst as before. I agree that the wealthy will second think about donating to charity. Why should they, The “Big Shot” will discourage any big money donation. He should stop complaining about inheriting trillions of dollar deficits from the last administrations because he sky rocket trillions quad over and made a mess of this economy. It is like he went mad out of his inexperience mind!

As for Specter switching from Republican to Democrat party, his State of Republican voters should make a lot of noise about this for they voted him in as their senator. Now, he double crossed them!

  • http://none Stewart

What leaders do you have reference too, Ray?? Not Obama, I hope, because that ship’s already sailed.
(Examples of Obama leadership: 1.Ordering Guantanamo Bay closed without any idea of where to send the terrorist suspects held there. 2. Suggesting that some of those terrorists, now at GITMO, may kill again, but may also be released onto U.S. soil and set up with welfare benefits. 3.. Proposing that military veterans use private insurance for the cost of a service-related injury before they would be eligible for coverage through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (this was cancelled, fortunately for Obama.) 4.Signing the trillion-dollar plus so-called “stimulus” bill, which the Congressional Budget Office said would actually hurt long-term economic growth.
    5. Saying Caterpillar wouldn’t lay off workers if his trillion-dollar stimulus bill passed Congress. Obama signed that bill on Feb. 17th. On March 17th, Caterpillar laid off nearly 2,500 workers. I’ve got tons more, but let’s hope you’re smarter than you sound).
As for those “side line War Mongers”, you might want to check Obama’s latest on sending more troops into Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Your statement about “Listening to all the lies Israel and others spread…” it would be very helpful, if you would specify exactly what lies are being spread by…” Israel and others.”
You might also want to check out what Obama thinks of that little Iranian leader’s rhetoric about Israel at the U.N.(Let me give you a hand with that research: Obama said that Ahmadinejad’s remarks were harmful “not just with respect to the possibility of U.S.-Iranian relations, but [to] Iran’s position in the world.”) Frankly, those are about the only things he’s done right, since he took office.
One more thing Ray, all that “I hear and read a whole lot of criticizing of Obama and his plans. Especially from the cheap radio talk shows like Rush Limbaugh. This criticizing does nothing but lead people to lose faith in Our Leaders.”. I guess you lived under a rock, when Bush was President or your head was up where the sun don’t shine. But this is still America, “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave” and we can still, at least for the time being, criticize our leaders, whether we be private citizens or radio talk show host….expensive or cheap.

How can we handle this situation? 1) stop making excuses for Obama every time he puts his foot in his mouth (which is plenty); 2) Send letters to local papers. Don’t wait for larger news papers. This has to become a grass-roots effort; 3) Women, stop being made a fool by a smooth taking man! This guy is the worse ever.. 4) Pray each day to GOD (not mohamid) for America to last until the next General Election; 5) If things keep getting worse, demand impeachment of him by the masses. Please remember that this man won by about 2% of the votes cast. Over 62-million strong US Citizens voted against this guy.
He acts like he won the Election with 99% of the votes! Well, he actually did win by 99% of the black votes. So stated by Juan Williams, contributor to Fox News… Garr

This new pres will forever change American giving habits. You see, it’s not really that Uncle Hoser always knows best what to do with OUR money. It’s just that UNCLE HOSER KNOWS WHAT’S BEST WHEN IT COMES TO EVERYTHING. I guess the
new pres was never told that voluntary giving does more good than a MEAN- SPIRITED government that demands to be seen as god-sent and omnipotent. In effect, this FDR II administration has no use for freedom of choice. Is this what libs
mean when they say pro-choice? That is, government always retains the “right” to choose for us. Even a starry-eyed lib has to admit that this is not a democracy. Is this an American version of Iran?
