The storm named Sandy swept away more than lives, houses and property. It swept President Barack Obama’s scandals off the front pages as well.
It’s abundantly clear that Obama and his minions lied about the attacks on the Benghazi, Libya consulate that resulted in the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, former Navy SEALS Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, and information management officer Sean Smith. The attack did not stem from a spontaneous demonstration over a farcical YouTube video. It was a coordinated and planned attack.
What’s worse, it now appears that not only did the Obama Administration refuse to accede to requests from Stevens to beef up security in the weeks prior to the attack, the Administration either refused or ignored pleas for help once the attack began. The assault lasted for hours, which was plenty of time to deploy troops to the area. There were also drones in the air and the events were being watched in real time, though it’s unclear whether the drones were armed.
It’s likely Obama instructed his message bearers to lie in order to keep up the meme that he was tough on terrorists and had al-Qaida on the run. Attacks by the very al-Qaida fighters Obama had armed to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi don’t play well during election season.
Like the Benghazi scandal, Operation Fast and Furious has slipped off the radar as well. Obama’s policies to arm Mexican drug cartels in an effort to blame the flow of guns into that country on American gun dealers as a pretext for stronger gun laws resulted in the death of border patrol agent Brian Terry. Obama’s — and Attorney General Eric Holder’s — protestations that he knew nothing about the program ring hollow.
There have been several theories posited about what happened in the run-up to the Libya debacle. They include one that Obama was planning an October surprise whereby Stevens would be kidnapped and exchanged quietly for the so-called blind sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, the spiritual advisor to the 1993 World Trade Center bombers. The New York Post reported Sept. 20 that the Administration was considering giving him up in a goodwill gesture to Egypt. A swap for Stevens would have given Obama cover.
Regardless of the motive, it’s clear that when people died, Obama lied.
