Pennsylvania Governor To Sue NCAA Over Sanctions

HARRISBURG, Pa.,  (UPI) —  Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said he’ll sue the NCAA for sanctions on Penn State University after ex-football coach Jerry Sandusky’s child sex-abuse scandal.

The federal lawsuit ordered by the Republican governor was expected to be filed Wednesday, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The NCAA imposed sanctions on Penn State in July following an investigation by former FBI Director Louis Freeh in which he said university administrators covered up the child-abuse allegations to protect Sandusky, who was an assistant coach to late Penn State head coach Joe Paterno. The sanctions include a $60 million fine, a reduction in scholarships, and a four-year ban on post-season football appearances.

In June, a jury convicted Sandusky on 45 or 48 counts of child sex abuse. Sandusky is serving at least 30 years in prison for molesting 10 boys, whom he met through his charity, the Second Mile. Some of the assaults happened on the Penn State campus.
