Pennsylvania Governor Latest Politician To Offer Help Defending Healthcare Act In Court

March 31, 2010 by

Pennsylvania governor latest politician to offer help defending healthcare act in courtDespite the fact that dozens of state attorneys general filed a lawsuit last week to overturn the recently passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, there are many politicians, mainly on the Left, who have vowed to defend the healthcare bill.

Among them is Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell, who signed a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, in which he and the governors of Washington, Michigan and Colorado offer to do just that.

"We believe the legal efforts [of those who seek to overturn the bill] will fail in court, unnecessarily delay the urgent need to get our citizens access to healthcare and waste our state tax dollars," Rendell and others wrote.

"As you prepare and deliver your defense of this landmark legislation, you have our commitment to work with you, at your request, to assist in this effort," they added.

The act was passed by the House of Representatives on March 21, and signed by President Obama two days later, although there was another vote after the Senate failed to pass two amendments to the reconciliation package. To date, at least 14 state attorneys general joined the lawsuit filed in a federal court in Florida by that state’s chief prosecutor Attorney General Bill McCollum. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19695445-ADNFCR

I wonder what his price was?

  • Darrel

Wonder if their state’s voters realize what the Obamacare impact is going to be on their state treasury – and that they will have to increase taxes to pay for it? The Obama trick of moving the tax burden to the states doesn’t mean there isn’t a tax burden! Wake up Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Michigan!

    • Smilee

Shift in Medicare payments to a more equal method will give some more money, MN should get about 400 million more and all will get more for medicaid and time will show this to be correct all you will hear here is pure rhetoric and nothing more than BS of course those states like TX will not get as much for Medicare but then they have been overpaid for years, something you neglected to mention

      • Mike In MI

phrownee – Split in Medicare payments will give more $$$$ -?????

What? More?—How??? Is this some sort of advanced, Progressive math,…or some new economic equation that stipulates splitting money between two different funds means both get more??? What? – OH, Obama goes to the casino to ka-ching up gov’t revenue since gods control the laws of chance,…(and Nasty Pewlousy’s ability to cook her hokey-poke book)…or something…right?

Let’s see,…have I got this right? Barak has two accounts to fund. So, He tells Nasty to dig in her magic Poke and she pulls out four Keynes coins. Barak, He wants four in this one and four in that one. So, Nasty puts the four in the middle and, Barak, He pulls the Ka-chinger and…POOF… there are four magic Keynes coins on BOTH ACCOUNTS. OMg! Praise, Obama!! Sing of His gory and craze. Is there anything witholden from Him now? NO! What HOPE, What Change!! Just look at the change pour forth from His magic Ka-chinger.

WE’RE Saved by His hollowed ability to pull and Ka-ching.

is there not a constitution ? do they not understand it ? is this not America ? oh wait , obama is the president and could care less what a constitution stands for , he’s far above it and interprets it the way he wants and we will interpret his re election in 2012 . i also believe he needs deported as a traitor.

    • Smilee

Steve, ther is a constitution and you clearly have no clue AS TO WHAT IT IS

    • eyeswideopen

steve, that’s how I felt, when Bush passed the Patriot Act, the Medicare Advantage Act, Started two wars, cut funding for our troops, Cut taxes, which meant less revenue for the war, Cut VA benefits, tortured prisoners, hijacked the Constitution, and basically let Dick Cheney run the country.

  • Chuck

I’m from Pa. and I am concerned about the impact on the state treasury. Of course Rendell isn’t concerned. He will be out of office in November and wont have to deal with it.

    • Leda

I’m from PA also. Isn’t there a way to bombard OUR state Attorney General and request that he join the law suits? Our state was promised that with all the casinos, our money woes would be over. It has only gotten worse. This is the sort of results that came from Rendell the crook.

      • Ron

I hope you are ready to use your bicycle or walk instead of relying on the car..

That is no longer the preferred method of transportation according to the Washington Kremlin..

Why is the Ob-ster saying that he will allow drilling off the coast of Virginia unless it is a smokescreen to hide what his other hand is doing.

More casinos was a good idea when there was tourism to fleece..
but now all they are doing is taking the money out of the pockets of the locals before they can spend it in the stores to help the economy and keep their citizens employed.

        What will be next.. cannibalism?

        • Joe H.

That promised “drilling” is just a pre-campaign, vote getting lie!!!

      • Wayne

Maybe you should keep up with the news… Our state Attorney General (PA) did join the law suit last week – in fact I believe he made it # 13.

Reminds of a man the walks up behind you in an alley, and startles you, and you ask him very cautiously ‘…um, your not a robber are you?’ And he replies ‘of course not!’

And as you carelessly turn around showing your back and thinking …whew! You hear the words ‘stick um up!’ And then with your milquetoast voice you cry out ‘You said that you weren’t a robber!’ He replies ‘I told what you wanted to hear, now give me your wallet, bank account numbers, deed to your property, and your peace of mind! Don’t worry about emptying your pocket though, cause’ you can keep the CHANGE!

My apologies, a little extreme I suppose.

    • Lynette

      Extreme?? It’s the absolute truth..

  • lennox

Regardless of the situation, and as bad as I dislike lawyers, at least we all have a right to stand for what we think is right and then be able to present our case to someone other than a dictator. Obama and his administration will test the constituitin to its max. It is our duty as defenders of the constitution and the rights of all Americans to use our laws to keep our way of life. If the constitution is ignored and changed then the way we have lived in freedom will be tested in a more serious way than any outside enemy. The courts and the ballot box are steps we can take to continue our way of life. BUT WE MUST TAKE THE STEPS as individuals and not depend on just a few to keep the fight.

  • wayne bower

Come on Colorado. Of all places, wake up. You once had some common sense. Then you got greedy and invited the east coasters to come bring there money to you. Now your going to let them control your politics too. Im ashamed of you.

Governor Rendell is not well thought of here in Pennsylvania and this is just one more reason why. He is in Obamas’ hip pocket and doesn’t care if we know it because he will not be running again. He is trying his best to discredit the state attorney general because he is bringing a lawsuit against the federal government along with many other states. Rendell is going down with the Obama Titanic.

    • Warrior

That dude is a tool! He thinks he’s a charmer but he has that distrusting look about him like he’d fleece his own grandmother.

      • Joe H.

I thought we in Canada were the unfortunate socialists. You Americans just went well beyond us. You must stop your President from systematically destroying your country. Write your Attorneys General in ALL your states and get them on board to overturn your President from putting the last nail in the coffin.

    • TIME

You know thats the main problem here in the United States now our Congress and Senate people don’t CRAE what folks think anylonger.
Thats why the frustration levels are so high.
Then add in the media that candy coats everything to the point that whats there is no longer visible as what it is. Up is Down, Down is Up, Right is Wrong, Wrong is Right.

Keep in mind the USA today poll, one where you had to write in they did not call you, the question was are you in favor of the Healt care bill, it was cray high mega digets of the numbers that said NO, compaired to the yes. answers that were in the micro digets.

Thus Congress – They don’t Care what the American people want.
The Senate, They don’t care what the American people want.
BarryO, he could care less about the American people at all let alone their needs or wants.
Its all about BarryO and how many pictures he can have taken of himself. Thats bloody sad!

      • Lynette

Obummer is just a mind-controlled, soulless puppet for people much stronger than him…….the banking elite, etc……so the concerns of the American people don’t matter one iota…….to any of them…..they’ll get their agendas accomplished no matter what we want.

        • Allan

I don’t believe any of that puppet stuff. Let’s give Obama full responsibility for his decisions. We don’t know any true details behind the scenes. We do know what Obama’s words and actions are, and that is enough. He has been associated with and mentored by revolutionaries. He is an ideologue who believes America’s socioeconomic model is wrong, despite the opportunties it afforded him, his family, and countless millions. The Constitution fostered that model, so he intend’s to “fix” it. The model he admires is one in which the people serve a benign government, in which he is a moral authority. Maybe at that point Michelle will be proud of her country.

    • Joe H.

another problem is the number of your countrymen that come on these blogs and claim that your health care is so great!!!! I probably should say that they could be just “fake” countrymen!!!

  • James A Graham

I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia a hug and a high five.
This guy is obviously a leader and not one of the sheep.
Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is….. It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it’s always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning,
and so eager to get into God’s Word. Turn with me in your Bibles,
if you will to the 47th chapter of Genesis, we’ll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?
….(reading)…Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray… So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt ,
and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them.
And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase,
and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock, their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey – to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year..

But the famine wasn’t over, was it? So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. “There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.” So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain. What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery?
That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen…And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.” God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn’t end up giving all their possessions to possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one.

We see the same thing happening today – the government today wants to “share the wealth “once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago – as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama’s government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh’s government did then, and it will end the same.

And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a “Messiah,” don’t they?

    Is he a Messiah?

    A savior?

Didn’t the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh”?

Well, I tell you this, I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.

Bow with me in prayer, if you will.

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone.

We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be.

We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says “And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.

Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh’s government.

    In God We Trust…

You may consider sharing this with others.

    Have a nice day.

      DEAR Ken and Mavis,
I am a good old (very old) red neck from Dauphin Island, AL and your letter assures me that we are on the same side of the upcoming war this time. I am convinced that we have let the country that our parents left us be destroyed from within. The America my father fought for has been given away to the Muslims,Bottom feeding welfare recipients, and the thieves in congress and other selfish bastards that let their own interests rule their thinking over the good of our country. It is time for us to band with other thinkers and unite and fire every incumbent at the very next election, and even that might prove to be too late. I am prepared to do anything to turn this travesty around!! Please don’t give up!!

I question whether these governors have the authority, under state constitutions, to interfer in the state office of Attorney General. If they are doing this on their own time and own dime, this would not be the case. Doing so on state time as governor; that’s a different matter.

  • Robert Gibson

If this administration were merited for anything positive, it would be that it positively has shown who American patriots for a sovereign America are, and who has anti-freedom global citizen mentality. And that is speaking for itself. It’s a political war where freedom, and America’s very foundation is honestly to God at stake!

These politicians on the left are dangerous to the very fabric of American existence as a republic. They have to go!

    • Allan

  • http://none Hank

Why didn’t you name the (14) governors and when their term is up? I hope the American people in the states where these gov’s are up for re-election are taken out.

  • Earl, QUEENS, NY

Will they live under this plan?? Or like CONgress, will these governors be exempt from this health/hell care raw deal?? Either way, the best thing to do would be to add these governors to the list of over 200 members of CONgress who need to be defeated in the next election cycles!!!!

    Two Points of View

In 2009, the United States printed $2 trillion and guaranteed it with IOUs. As the Obama administration continues to print more money, the liberals try to make everyone believe that their actions will get us out of debt and recession. By printing more money, their philosophy is to hand out free money as it was easy to come by and as a result make people believe that getting it for free is better than working. Eventually, more jobs will be lost, people will stop looking for work, and when there are more takers than givers, the capitalist system will totally collapse.

While the workers who work hard are getting stressed out, those who collect unemployment can lay back and enjoy their free time. With the healthcare bill signed into law, you now can stay home and enjoy hobbies like art. If you are under 26, you can stay under your parent’s insurants with nothing to worry about. After the cap and trade bill is passed, things will get even better. The darn capitalists will be forced to lay off more people and you’ll have more friends to hang around with. And if you do decided that you want to work, the government is hiring 16,000 new IRS agents to enforce the President’s mandate on the American people. Those will be jobs created. No need to worry about collage. We’ll make those who work pay for it.

Capitalists are nothing but whiners. After the healthcare bill was passed, AT&T started whining that they already lost $1 billion because of the passage, two of the nation’s largest employers, John Deer and Caterpillar, claim it will cost them billions and to top it off, Towers Watson whined to the Wall Street Journal that the total hit this year for them will reach nearly $14 billion. What are they going to do? Lay off more people? Don’t they know that we have printing presses rolling and will never run out of unemployment money? Henry Waxman already called in the CEO’s of these companies to Washington and will put them in their place for whining about it.

Another organization that needs a lesson thought is the Heritage Foundation. How dare they say that according to their research, “President Obama’s health approach is financially unsustainable and will ultimately lead to health care rationing, a lower quality of care and a greater degree of dependence on government?” Government dependency, isn’t that what we want? No need to worry. Senators Lindsey Graham and Joseph Lieberman outlined U.S. climate-change legislation that would have power companies buy and sell pollution rights in a carbon market and force oil and energy companies pay fixed fees for emissions. Our senators and congressman are the finest and will make sure that after the capitalist system collapses, we the new communist party will get total control of the private sector.

How can we loose? With gas prices at $7.00 a gallon and outrageous energy bills, everybody will be forced to ask the government for a hand out. As a Democratic Congressman, Alcee Hastings, had articulated so perfectly, “There ain’t no rules here, we’re trying to accomplish something. . . .All this talk about rules. . . .When the deal goes down . . . we make ‘em up as we go along.” Translation, “The road for those who know how to milk the system will be paved with gold. A better quote to summarize this point of view comes from a comment to Cybercorrespondent’s article entitled, “Unite Against Tyranny or Relinquish Liberty.” Quote, “I think we should Unite FOR Tyranny. It will make your dreams come true! Or kill you. One of the two.”

N.Y. Times columnist: Death panels will save ‘a lot of money’
Paul Krugman tells ‘Roundtable’ economists agree it’s ‘going to be major’

    Posted: March 30, 2010
    9:02 pm Eastern

    By Bob Unruh

Left-leaning New York Times economic columnist Paul Krugman says the so-called “death panels” established by President Obama’s trillion-dollar nationalized health-care plan will end up saving “a lot of money” for the government.

The comments from Krugman, who also writes on the New York Times blogs, came during a discussion of “Obamacare” on the ABC News Sunday program “This Week.”“People on the right, they’re simultaneously screaming, ‘They’re going to send all the old people to death panels,’ and ‘It’s not going to save any money,’” he said.

Another panelist interjected, “Death panels would save money,” to which Krugman responded:

The advisory panel which has the ability to make more or less binding judgments on saying this particular expensive treatment actually doesn’t do any good medically and so we are not going to pay for it. That is actually going to save quite a lot of money. We don’t know how much yet. The CBO gives it very little credit but, but most, most of the health care economists I talk to think that’s going be a really, uh a really major cost saving.
The video has been posted on the Conservatives4Palin website, and it was Palin who was among the first to denounce the “death panel” concept in the Democrats’ government-run health care plan. That’s the idea that appointed government officials who under the plan will have access to medical records will determine if a treatment will be provided to a needy patient. Theoretically, that could be a death sentence for a patient denied a treatment.

Get the prescription for reclaiming America’s heritage of liberty, justice and morality – Joseph Farah’s “Taking America Back,” autographed only at the WND SuperStore.

In the United Kingdom and other nations where such government procedures already are in place, the survival rates for such afflictions as breast cancer or prostate cancer are lower than in the U.S. Critics say it is partly because of denial or delay of treatment.

    (Story continues below)

WND columnist Jane Chastain wrote about the issue shortly before the congressional vote.

    President Obama

“This bill sets up an Independent Medicare Advisory Board, which is to recommend cuts for the sole purpose of limiting the amount of resources going to Medicare patients. Some have called it a ‘Death Panel,’” she wrote.

“You may think this is harsh, but if this bill passes, many seniors will die prematurely because the recommendations of these unelected bureaucrats will go into effect. Congress is not required to act on them!”

“Obama … wants Granny to believe that she will be able to receive that operation or treatment that could save or extend her life. Nothing could be further from the truth! There is a reverse incentive in this bill that actually penalizes Granny’s primary-care physician if he or she is in the top 10 percent of doctors who refer patients to specialists. This puts a wedge between Granny and the doctor she trusts to act in her best interest.”

Richard Poe, a New York Times best-selling author, documented in a previous report for WND how the government’s plan to cut health-care costs will, in effect, cut health care itself for some.

“The only question is whose” health care will be cut, Poe wrote. “The numbers make clear that most of these cuts will have to come at the expense of those who need health care the most – the elderly, the disabled and the gravely ill.”

He cited Obama’s acknowledgement that “older, sicker societies pay more on health care than younger, healthier ones.”

“He is right,” Poe wrote. “According to a 2006 study by the Department of Health and Human Services, five percent of the U.S. population accounts for nearly 50 percent of health care spending in America. Who are those five percent? Most are people over 65 years of age with serious, chronic illnesses.

“By contrast, the study notes, half of the U.S. population ‘spends little or nothing on health care… with annual medical spending below $664 per person.’ These, of course, are mostly healthy young people – people without serious, chronic illnesses,” Poe wrote.

“Obviously, Obama will not meet his cost-cutting targets by reducing care to healthy young people. They are already spending next to nothing. It is the old, the dying and the chronically ill whose health care he will cut. The numbers make this clear,” Poe said.

Some of the “old, the dying and the chronically ill” appear to be catching on. According to a report from Fox News, an estimated 60,000 members of AARP, which endorsed “Obamacare,” have turned in their cards and canceled their memberships in recent weeks.

Poe elaborated on his concerns about the president’s plan.

“How will Obama cut costs? His June 13 radio speech gave some hints. Obama said his plan would provide ‘incentives’ to doctors to ‘avoid unnecessary hospital stays, treatments and tests that drive up costs,’” Poe wrote.

“And what sort of treatment does Obama consider ‘unnecessary?’ In an ABC News special June 24, he implied medical treatment might be wasted on elderly people with grave illnesses, citing his own grandmother as an example,” he said.

Obama concluded, “Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.”

Poe also documented how such health care limits already are being used overseas, including the U.K., where “British elders are routinely denied treatment for cancer, heart disease and other deadly illnesses.”

Further, “death” boards already are operating in Oregon, where officials with the state Health Plan agreed to refuse a patient life-extending cancer drugs but volunteered to pay for her to commit suicide.

He reported Barbara Wagner of Springfield, Ore., was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005. Chemotherapy and radiation put her cancer into remission. But the cancer returned in May 2008.

Wagner’s doctor prescribed Tarceva, a pill which slows cancer growth. There was a good chance it might extend her life by a few weeks or even months.

At age 64, Wagner had two sons, three daughters, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Every moment she could spend with her loved ones was precious, he noted.

But Oregon’s health officials nixed the plan. Her Tarceva treatment would cost $4,000 per month. Wagner was going to die anyway, so why waste the money?

Wagner received a letter stating that the Oregon Health Plan would not approve any treatment for her “that is meant to prolong life, or change the course of the disease. …” However, if Wagner opted for physician-assisted suicide, Oregon would be happy to pick up the tab, said the letter.

Physician-assisted suicide is legal in Oregon and costs only about $50.

This goes far beyond dissent. This is America’s gut reaction to having people in government who have no business being here. I’m talking about Obummer and his flunkies.
It is no accident that Obummer and his flunkies don’t like dissent. As far as they’re concerned, Americans aren’t allowed to complain or have doubts about his “wisdom.”
Only a world-class, deluded yahoo like Obummer would dare think his ideas and schemes are ‘perfect.’ He wants to resurrect monumental failures like socialism, communism and fascism. Americans understand. Obummer and his flunkies don’t understand. They will NEVER understand.
Benedict Arnold, Aaron Burr and Saul Alinsky may be your role models, Obummer, but they’re NOT America’s role models.

sc, do you honestly think that people were happy with Bush and all the crap he pulled? No, we weren’t. Even as a republican I couldn’t stomache all the illegal and stupid things he was doing. Democracy swings back and forth, you just have to wait for your turn again. The rest of us suffered for 8 years so that we could be handed a country in crisis. Now it’s your turn. Love it or leave it.

obama will be stopped, one way or the other. A lot of other congress will also be stopped. This bull sh%% will not be condoned in this great country. Every one knew what Obama was before he was elected, but they just got board with the same O, same O. So they thought they would go for a change. Well they got it,and they gave it to every one if they liked it or not.So what? This country and the people will not let this happen. I won`t be around 10 years from now, because I, also am in remission of cancer, but I want every one to know that my hate for obama and his dingbats in washington is so strong that I would spit in their faces
    if I had the chance.

gaetano, don’t hate president Obama.. pity him and his cronies.

Hating anyone that strongly will make your own life a life of Hell– and bring back your cancer more quickly- and we want people like you on this earth a bit longer for you are amongst the few with any political common sense in this pathetic World.

Nope., pity Obama- because to hold such a high position and then only use that position to usher in Socialism– while deceiving the people and tickling thier ears places Obama in a precarious situation. The more that is given to someone, the more is required of that person and alot will be required of Obama when he meets his maker- God have pity on his soul…,

    Please; don’t listen to any Religious “Wizard”! After searching over 30 years for TRUTH, I have found it! I am a college graduate, but that did not give me TRUTH! I have been a member of numerous “religions,” but that didn’t give me TRUTH! I have been involved in politics, but that didn’t give me TRUTH! However, just a few years ago, my youngest brother told me about “someone” (i.e., Gary Miller), who believed what we were finding to be factually TRUE and I followed-up on it. I contacted Gary Miller. Finally, after all these years of searching since just a child, I had found the absolute and scientifically proven truth! If you are interested in scientifically proving “truth” that many, many humans look for, but only a tiny few actually find, contact email:;

When is it going to end. Health care for every body could mean no more sick people which could lead to all doctors and nurses out of work.More jobs lost. Now he Obama signed a treaty with the USSR for a thirty per cent nuclear arms reduction.I was always amazed at the site of Bikini Atoll being blown to bits with a nuclear bomb.Mushroom cloud ten miles high and total devastation Wow.Now i will probably never see this in real time. What next. Well Obama eliminated the middle man banker from the student loan program resulting in 6^billion more dollars for education. That’s all we needed are more intellegent Americans. With a president like this how will we ever fill the teabagger busses.

JPW, it is 68 Billion not 6 billion for education.

Now with our New Republican governor in Pennsylvania, I wonder if he will put his money where his mouth is and take a stand against this bill, .
