KARACHI, Pakistan, Aug. 12 (UPI) — A Pakistani court sentenced a paramilitary soldier to death after finding him guilty of killing an unarmed teenager in a shooting that was caught on a video.
The anti-terrorism court in Karachi imposed the death sentence Friday on Shahid Zafar in the June killing of Sarfaraz Shah, 17, who was shown pleading for his life in the video, which was widely played, arousing much public outcry.
The court also gave life sentences to six others accused in the incident, the PakTribune reported.
The video taken by a local television channel showed the paramilitary soldier firing at Shah, who had been accused of trying to rob people in a park, while the teenager pleaded for his life. The youth reportedly bled to death after begging to be taken to a hospital.
A brother of Shah later told reporters he was satisfied with the court’s ruling, the report said.
