Over Some Objections, Terrorist Suspects Set To Be Transferred To U.S. For Trial

November 18, 2009 by

Over some objections, terrorist suspects set to be transferred to U.S. for trial Despite concerns expressed by several lawmakers, the government has announced five men suspected of coordinating the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be sent to the U.S. for trial.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who allegedly confessed to masterminding the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, which killed nearly 3,000 people, and four other Guantanamo Bay prisoners will be tried by a civilian court in lower Manhattan, just blocks from the World Trade Center site.

While some family members welcomed the decision as a chance to have their day in court, Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) said that "bringing these dangerous individuals onto U.S. soil needlessly compromises the safety of all Americans," quoted by CNN.

He added that "putting political ideology ahead of the safety of the American people just to fulfill an ill-conceived campaign promise is irresponsible."

The announcement was made by Attorney General Eric Holder who also stated that he expected the prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the defendants.

He said, moreover, that five other detainees held at Guantanamo Bay will be sent to military commissions for trial, also in the U.S.

Commentators suggest the decisions are a step towards fulfilling the pledge made by President Obama last January to close the controversial detention facility that has attracted criticism from around the world for its harsh interrogation techniques which some say included acts of torture.

What a total disgrace. This administration did this for nothing but polical purposes. Look at what this president and his administration has done in the past two weeks. You have to be a total idiot not to realize that everything being done is a diversion tactic. Keep inundating the American people with so much outlandish BS and they wont be paying attention to what were trying to pass and really shove it up our you know whats. Take a bow Mr. President. OOPS, Sorry, I forgot he only bows to Arab Kings and Japanese Emporers. Way to go Mr. President, you have brought about change. Your the first US President to have ever bowed to a foreigner. Sending a great message to the terrorists. You’re saying we’re weak and wont do anything if you attack us again. Hopefully, those 5 terrorist that are brought to New York City, will become some inmates honeys.

I won’t spend a lot of time expressing my distaste for the deision as I would only be repeating the words of the majority of you good American patriots.
      Here are some quotes from the 2008 book, “What in the World is going on” by Dr. David Jeremiah;
I do want to repeat something that has been written by a former Iraqi Air Force General under Saddam Hussein,George Sada who was not a muslim. His book ws titled: Saddam’s Secrets: How an Iraqi General Defied and Survived Saddam Hussein. ” One of the nicest things aout tha American people is that you are generous and friendly people, because of this you are sometimes naive and overly trusting…Many brave young soldiers have died in Iraq for this reason.
The ultimate goal of the Islamic revolution is “total and complete conquest of the West and of anyone who does not bow to them and their dangerous and out-of-date ideology of hate and revenge.”
al-Aqsa, a Hamas-owned TV station, aired a childrens program that depicted a puppet boy sneaking into the WH and killing Pres. Bush with “the sword of Islam” and vows “the White House would be turned into a mosque.”

      • JeffH

An audience was being told at a radical Islamic rally in California that “One day you will see the flag of Islam over The White House.”

Wake up people, we have a muslim in The White House now who is nothing short of radical.

        • John

Jeff, I never would have believed it but it sure looks like we’re headed in that direction. Go to YouTube and search “Obama and Islam”, you’ll be surprised what you find there.

Did you know that Holder’s law firm represents seventeen Gitmo Terrorists? Follow the money. The announcement by Holder to bring the terrorists to the US to be tried is a conspiracy to defraud the American Tax Payers out of millions if not billions of dollars which will be deposited in Holder, soetoro/obama and the law firms bank accounts. All of them need to be disbarred!

This is financial fraud. This makes Madoff look like a small time thug.

    • http://aol.com jen

      agreed

    • John

Those people in DC are dirt bags. Can you believe that they have the audacity to blame corporate America for our current state of the economy? Admittedly there were some cheats there, but yet this administration is comprised of a bunch of hypocritical liars.

And now they’re using this trial not only as a diversion for all their screw-ups but also as a platform to continue with their assault against Bush, Cheney and the CIA.
      And now financial gain too???

    • JeffH

Attorney General Eric Holder released known terrorists into the streets of America when he was involved in the Clinton pardons of members of the Weather Underground and Puerto Rican FALN. Holder’s law firm, Covington & Burling, represents terrorists being held at Guantanamo Bay.
Eric Holder as U.S. Attorney General is a travesty from a counter-terrorism perspecive.

His Clinton Era [the first Clinton era, not the curent one] role in the pardoning of 16 FALN terrorists itself should have disqualified him for the job. As the LA Times wrote in a January 9 piece:
“Attorney general nominee Eric H. Holder Jr. repeatedly pushed some of his subordinates at the Clinton Justice Department to drop their opposition to a controversial 1999 grant of clemency to 16 members of two violent Puerto Rican nationalist organizations, according to interviews and documents…President Clinton’s decision to commute prison terms caused an uproar at the time. Holder was called before Congress to explain his role but declined to answer numerous questions from angry lawmakers demanding to know why the Justice Department had not sided with the FBI, federal prosecutors and other law enforcement officials, who were vehemently opposed to the grants…” [source 1="http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/washingtondc/la-na-holder9-2009jan09,0,6643509.story" language=","][/source]
That until just a few months ago, Mr. Remes and now Attorney General Holder served in the same law firm while Remes actively mounted an over-the-top defense of terrorists of the ilk of Al Nashiri, casting them as victims, will forever cloud the DOJ’s dealing with the GITMO detainees.

Nothing can be done to address that fact. As a result, U.S. national security will be seriously compromised, to what degree remains unclear but we are not hopeful.

      • eyeswideopen

Jeff, those that were released, what have they done to this country since then? Have they bombed us? Attacked anyone with guns? Where did they go? Shouldn’t we have heard some horrible things about them since their release? Were they innocent or guilty of crimes? Just wondering what happened to such dangerous people.

        • JeffH

          Polly want another cracker?
You can’t see past the end of your nose to figure out the underlying meaning of the article to begin with. So what else is new.

          • eyeswideopen

Nothing is the answer. You can’t find anything… You are a loser. and a radical liar.

        • Joe H.

          Eyes,
That doesn’t mean they won’t in the near or far future. They should have went to jail at the very least. Also, who’s to say they didn’t assist in the planning or carrying out of 9/11? care to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they didn’t?

          • eyeswideopen

Joe, lets kill people based on the fact, that they might do something wrong. Oh Yes, that is the America that our founding fathers would be so proud of. You are a domestic terrorist and your type of thinking is what will bring this country down. We have tried 195 people and haven’t had one incident from any of them. You are truly a radical.

        • JeffH

And Obama’s close personal friend is proud even to this day of waging war against America. Ayers said he had no regrets about bombing New York City police headquarters, the Capitol, and the Pentagon in the 1970s. “I don’t regret setting bombs,” Ayers said in a New York Times interview that happened to be published September 11, 2001. “I feel we didn’t do enough.” When asked if he would do it all again, he said, “I don’t want to discount the possibility.” The home page [4] of Ayers’s personal website is, unsurprisingly, graced with a photograph of mass murderer Che Guevara.

What, Jeff, you are going back in time? I thought you all wanted to stay in the present time and not discuss anything from the past? Oh, you and yours are allowed to bring up the past when it is convenient for you to do so. Funny and hypocritical don’t you think? LMAO

  • John Taylor

More cynacism from the government. A showcase trial to convict a guy who has been renditioned to plead guilty to anything the government would like. How about the Lady Di “murder”. The Mainstream Media will turn this into another Michael Jackson Odessy and the public will go back to sleep convinced that 19 muslims carried this extemely complex operation from a cave on the other side of the world.
I don’t for one second believe Khalid is an angel but there is too much evidence, if you look for it that says 9/11 couldn’t be carried out without govenment involvement. Just listen to Larry Silverstein’s PBS admission. Duh!
The people that really run the show know how to manipulate and control the masses. In this trial everyone wins except Khalid Shiekh. The government has taken the attention away from themselves once again. The public can go back to job hunting or tv and life goes on.
Can you believe the audacity of holding this showcase trial in NYC. The media will play this up like the Michael Jackson Odessy.
As the Roman Senators said while they looted Rome. Just give them bread and Circuses.

  • http://aol.com jen

Disgrace…..to America, to those who fight for our freedom, and those who lost their lives on September 11th (as well as the families)
-I’m not against the terrorists getting what they deserve, but allowing them to be tried in a civilian court is unjust (that is the same court any AMERICAN can be tried in). And what is awful is that the charges on them can be dropped!

  • Carol

BO is so full of bull —- that he can’t even smell for himself.

These horrible people killed innocent people who just went to work and now they are going to get the same amount of rights that the people who went to work and was innocent.

How in God’s green earth can that happen? I just don’t get it the best thing they can do is let them go in the streets of NEW YORK and wait for about 2 seconds they will get their just deserts.

  • Fishon

I recommend execution by firing squad and I volunteer to be the magic bullet that sends this first fool to hell. Anyone who thinks these prisoners should get the PRIVELAGE of a fair trial in The U.S. should get in line with Om hala o hari ala barack um dity shiek mohammad atari. You get the Idea! :p

  • Robin from Indiana

I am just not sure who was complaining about Gitmo in the first place? Why do we need to close it? Why can’t the trials be held there? Bringing them to New York to stand trial is nothing less than a diversion from all the other issues that Washington is trying to get away with. Who made the decision? Eric Holder? If America does not want them here then why can’t it be stopped? This administration are really turning into pros in how to pull over the American people’s eyes!

    • s c

Robin, if the lamestream media can be trusted with doling out info (good luck), that ‘decision’ was aided by Holder’s wife and another person. In other words, comrade obama doesn’t want to be seen as having been any part of that decision. If anything goes wrong, then comrade obama will whine that ‘it wasn’t his decision,’ and holder can ‘volunteer’ to throw himself under the nearest bus.
Remember, holder was the ‘legal genius’ who helped bubba clinton PARDON Puerto Rican terrorists just before clinton left the white house.
And good luck getting the lamestream, sidwalk stewie media to admit it.

  • JeffH

Holder was asked if terrorism detainees who had been acquitted would be released. He responded that the administration would seek to continue detaining some suspects post-acquittal under the laws of war. The military authority under which a suspected terrorist could be detained post-acquittal also allows for an individual to be detained after their allotted sentence is served, provided the government still identifies them as a member of a group that has declared war against the United States. So prosecution is moot?

Why bother bringing them to American soil and bringing charges in the first place, if you have the power to detain someone whether or not they are found guilty? It is nothing more than a show and a waste of resources.

  • s c

This goes MUCH deeper than ‘some’ objections. This crap is indicative of the utter incompetence that comes straight from the white house. Everything comrade obama does is a reminder that he sees himself as a world savior. Without a teleprompter, comrade obama is about as “talented” as al ‘social justice via corporate profits’ gore.
Long before comrade obama’s 4-year stint is over, many millions of Americans will rue the day that enough people were stupid enough to vote for him. Anyone who can’t see through obama by now would enjoy life quicker if they’d move to China. They might even have better job prospects.
By the way, where all those JOBS comrade obama promised?

    • s c

Just so I don’t seem completely off the topic at hand, what comrade obama is doing is absolutely typical of the progressive, ultraliberal mindset that demands tht ALL history be ignored. These yahoos love to rewrite history, in a vain attempt to dumb-down everyone with a Nazi-styled form of pc. Obviously, Haavid isn’t known for teaching history. And its lawyers seem to be fond of ignoring processes that work.
The evidence piles up on a daily basis. So much for Jefferson [D, LA] and comrade obama. Who’s next in this generational disgrace?

    • Joe H.

      sc,
Those jobs are right there….in the districts that don’t exist!!!! did you hear about that?

  • Robert

Working that horrific day on Wall Street. Hey Obama and Holden, explain to me why this is good for America. Why don’t you, your wives and children watch was recorded that day. People jumping to their deaths rather than be burned alive. And you want to give these animals a stage to spew their vermin. You both should be impeached for your crimes against America.

    • Joe H.

      ou814me,
Only a liberal fanatic could have wished that on an American! God I love your patriotism!!!

      • OU812

Joey boy, I’m an Independent. I don’t care much for either party. I believe in country over party not the othr way around like you. You had a president that let us be attacked and Obama should be impeached? You had a VP that outed a CIA agent and Obama should be impeached? (words removed for offensive content)

        • Joe H.

With the words thqat seem to be removed from your post you like all good libbies can’t control yourself!!!! There goes that concept you guys hate so much…..personal responsibility!!!!

        • Joe H.

          o,
I suppose the investigation that O-man allowed to go forward won’t out many, many more? cheny outed one O-man is going to be the cause of dozens to be outed. Idiot!!

  • Joe H.

If they do this they should put them all in pig skin masks to gag them!!!!

  • Joey D

It’s all a show for the people…The world knows that 9-11-2001 was planned by the C.I.A. and the BUSH clan..Osama is the puppet for the CIA and G.W.BUSH 1,2. • Joe H.

I only hope you are right and they ARE fried and some ACLU libber doesn’t get them off on a technicality!!! Like these COMBATANTS didn’t get their MIRANDA!!!!!

    • OU812

There is no way they will get off. The American people will not allow it, they have no rights. I do think they should be tried in NYC though. What are people afraid of? People are so scarred from fright-wing tactics that it is sad.

  • Beverly Petrovic

What is the matter with this country, these criminals should be executed and no more fooling around, they do not need to be brought here and use our taxpayers money, can’t anyone see we do not have the
money for them be tried over here. Why does Obama want them tried here
so they can be let free. God help us…..

    • Joe H.

      Beverly,
I agree. We are so far in debt now it isn’t funny yet holder wants the cost of a drawn out civilian trial that could last up to 2 or 3 years. And let’s not forget appeals!!! And the whole time they are in NEW York, the city is open to more terrorism and death. Try them in GITMO and bury them in a pig urine filled grave!!!

      • eyeswideopen

We are a Nation of Laws, not of men. Thank God, as men like you who are trying to hijack the Constitution would be our down fall. Read what the Justices have decided and trust in our Constitution which has stood the test of time. You rt wingers need to stop trying to re-write the Constitution based on your emotional gut reactions. You sound like you need to be schooled about our history and laws.
