On Stomping The American Flag

On Stomping The American Flag

Scott Compton, a high school English teacher in Chapin, S.C., is in hot water for taking the American flag from its place in the classroom and stomping on it during an honors English lesson on symbolism.

“He drew a couple of symbols, like one of them was a cross, and he said, ‘What does this represent,’ and everybody said, ‘Christianity,’” said the parent of one student in the class who is a veteran and upset about the teacher’s actions.

“Then he proceeds to take down the American flag, and said, ‘This is a symbol, but it’s only a piece of cloth. It doesn’t mean anything,’ and then he throws it down on the floor and then stomps on it, repeatedly.

“I asked what was he trying to get, the point across? And [my daughter] said, ‘I don’t know,’ and he said, his explanation was there would be no consequences, it’s just a piece of cloth that doesn’t mean anything.”

School administrators thought Compton’s actions were abhorrent and have placed him on leave for at least the remainder of the school year, according to reports.

“Our superintendent served in the military, I served in the military for 20 years, our flag is a symbol of our freedom, and so many people have fought and died for that liberty, and so we take this action very seriously,” said Mark Bounds, a spokesperson for the school district Lexington-Richland 5.

According to Compton’s attorney, the teacher was attempting to show his classes that America is an “inspirational idea,” greater than the “material objects that represent it,” during a lesson on symbolism.

“He made only positive comments about America throughout this lesson,” wrote attorney Darryl D. Smalls in a statement. “The version of events currently circulating is incomplete.

“He meant no intentional disrespect to those men and women who served our country or to America itself,” continued Smalls. “Several members of his family served in the Armed Forces and they have his total support given all of the facts of the lesson.”

And there is no legal basis that Compton actually did anything wrong, as the Supreme Court has protected “symbolic expression,” even including the burning of the flag, in the past.

The flag is a symbol of American sacrifice and bravery. But is it also a symbol of the abuses of the American government? Furthermore, as the rights of Americans become more endangered with each legislative movement in Washington, is patriotism and flag-worship wise in the United States of today?

The public education system — because it is a product of American bureaucracy and tyranny — has effectively become the initial point of indoctrination for Americans to the propaganda that has come to rule over our society. These schools also serve more and more as the places where the Nation’s youths learn to accept less liberty for more safety.  So perhaps Compton’s act of defiance against the idea that America is a flag before which each citizen must bow should be applauded.

It’s obvious that the idea that Compton acted nobly in stomping the flag and informing his students that America is more than the symbols that evoke tears during the national anthem would not be popular with conservatives. Flag destruction conjures images of hippies, America-hating liberals and any number of anarchy-espousing wackos. But the teacher was well within his 1st Amendment rights in stomping the flag. To be a conservative, one must unconditionally support the rights afforded the American people in the Constitution.

Another argument could be made that now is absolutely no time for Americans to be patriotic, at least in the connotation that that word has come to mean in the years since Sept. 11, 2001. The public, through cleverly named legislative and executive actions (PATRIOT, National Defense Authorization) has been conditioned to believe that at all costs Americans must support a governmental crusade against the world’s “evildoers,” “axes of evil” and whatever other convenient terms for imaginary forces fit the needs of the Nation’s leaders at the moment.

President Barack Obama, George W. Bush and their respective Administrations and Congresses are all culpable in using subversion to take away freedom from Americans by evoking patriotic vigor or fear.

Webster defines “patriotism” as follows: “love for or devotion to one’s country.”

If what Compton did to the American flag in his South Carolina classroom was wrong and unpatriotic, what Congress and the current and previous Presidential Administrations have done to the U.S. Constitution is purely treasonous. The Nation the flag has come to represent is no longer under the control of honest men who share a love and devotion to their country, and Americans would be remiss to allow the symbolism of the cloth to blind them to the fact that America is nearly completely destroyed. It now represents colonized land under British rule more than the Revolutionary new country that inspired true patriotism more than two centuries ago.

Americans should revere the men and women who have given so much throughout the course of our Nation’s history to protect what this Nation was founded upon; but Compton is correct, the flag has very little to do with any of that. If the Nation’s people aren’t careful to remember that the America isn’t simply a flag filled with the memory of our war fallen, the very same piece of cloth will be used as a blindfold to dissidence as, for the benefit of the few, Washington’s criminal class undo everything those millions of dead fought to protect.

If you must pledge your allegiance, pledge your allegiance to the Constitution — if only until the Nation is able to clean the stains of evil and corruption from the cloth of its flag.

Such a stupid this guy is. Try that in front of me Mr. Compton and I’ll be glad to solved the flag of North Korea right into your throat. Disrespectful moron.

    • GALT

This is not necessarily a response to the rather ignorant person above,
      or those below……….so two things.

1.) This is a story about a story as told by Sam Rolley written for mushrooms.

2.) Sometimes people are inspired to attempt to illustrate certain concepts….which
are beyond the capacity of the audience to comprehend………

Had the teacher been a little more resourceful or had a more broadened backround
he could simply have used this:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Children%27s_Story

which accomplishes what he was trying to do…….without the fuss.

( although given the usual quality of response from mushrooms, maybe not )

Knowing that reading skills are a bit weak among the mushrooms…….

      • ibcamn

Galt, are you blaming this idiotic act to desicrate our flag on the students?because if you are, that would mean that this teacher is no where near doing his job(that the union says he’s qualified to do) as a teacher!

      • Frank Kahn

I get it, GALT, you are just like the teacher in the story, you want to reprogram us so that we have the same WRONG thoughts as you.

Calling us mushrooms, is a personal attack that serves no purpose. It is a lie and childish.

The parallels between your propaganda and the teacher in the story is uncanny.

The new teacher lies to the children with sweet words of deception, the only difference notable between her and you. The difference is that she uses programming sense and feigned compassion in her lies, where you just use demeaning and hateful words in yours.

Oh, almost missed one other difference, she used the correct definitions of the words, where you twist the meanings to fit your desired effect.

      • http://Aol.com CommonSense4America

I would defend the teachers right to stomp on the flag, in the name of free speech of course, and I would also defend the right of the students to place said teacher under the flag and stomp on it.

        GALT,,,,,you are still a pious, pompous A-HOLE!!!

      • Speak2Truth

Had the teacher been a little more resourceful, he could have saluted the flag and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, then explained to the students that we show respect to our entire nation by saluting the symbol of our nation. It was, after all, a lecture on symbolism.

His contempt for our entire nation was demonstrated by his act of contempt for the symbol of our nation.

Lesson learned. It’s a huge shame that the teacher’s union will ensure he continues collecting taxpayer dollars from the nation for which he demonstrates such contempt, while he is on “rubber room” leave.

That person should be summarily separated from the cash flow from the taxpaying Americans who he so despises. They are, after all, the nation he has just trampled.

      • GALT

It appears that the actual potential for explaining things to the “willfully ignorant
functionally illiterate” crowd ( or mushrooms ) will not happen by accident…..hell
I bet, walking them through it step by step won’t work….because for the “talking
monkey”, every day is a NEW DAY…….while things fell yesterday when dropped
(gravity) they might NOT today…….”Iz our children learning”? No, Mr President,
you are still way smarter than them, so everything is on track….you can do
whatever you want.” ( and NO, you probably still have to think about it? )

        Lesson One: A clue.

        http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/01/flag-stomping-could-cost-south-carolina-teacher-his-job/

Compare the facts with those presented by Mr. Rolley, separate them from other
things written by Mr. Rolley. ( what do we call the difference between these two things?)

      • GALT

Lesson Two: another clue ( video )

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/10/scott-compton-south-carol_n_2448399.html

STRONG HINT REGARDING CLUE; you have to WATCH the video.

When evaluating this video, which is a verbatim duplication of the transcript….

With respect to: ““I asked what was he trying to get, the point across? And [my daughter] said, ‘I don’t know,’ and he said, his explanation was there would be no consequences, it’s just a piece of cloth that doesn’t mean anything.””

Given that what you are witnessing, is a father’s understanding of a “tale” told
by his daughter being “told” to you…….how reliable does this seem? Does it
indicate anything to you about the “potential attention span of the daughter?
Her ability to grasp subtle or abstract concepts? Or that having brought it
up, for whatever reason, she actually cares about any of this?

1.) What was the subject being taught?
        2.) What was the topic?
3.) What was the length of the class (real) compared to the actual time
it would have taken what was described, to occur?

( you will have two separate answers quantified in minutes )

      • GALT

        Final Piece:

        CHAPIN, SC (WIS) -
The attorney for a Midlands high school teacher accused of stomping on an American flag in front of his honors English classes says his client meant no disrespect.

Darryl D. Smalls says 12-year teacher Scott Compton was attempting to show his classes that America is an “inspirational idea,” greater than the “material objects that represent it,” during a lesson on symbolism.

“He made only positive comments about America throughout this lesson,” wrote Smalls in an emailed statement to WIS. “The version of events currently circulating is incomplete.”

“He meant no intentional disrespect to those men and women who served our country or to America itself,” continued Smalls. “Several members of his family served in the Armed Forces and they have his total support given all of the facts of the lesson.”

“Many people have rushed to vilify my client based on one segment of the story related through a secondhand account,” wrote Smalls. “My client has had an exemplary twelve year teaching career and was only trying to create a forum for discussion using a powerful symbol with which all his students would be familiar.”

        http://www.wistv.com/story/20552687/teachers-attorney-my-client-was-trying-to-create-a-forum-for-discussion-using-a-powerful-symbol

FINAL NOTE:This represents the entirety of information on this story……which
as the last paragraph here notes…..is completely worthless in formulating
an “opinion”………let alone anything approaching “intelligent”, or even
        possibly intelligent.

Please note I have never accused any of you of being INTELLIGENT, and I
also want you to know that INTELLIGENCE is NOT a disease, and it is NOT
contagious……( please feel free to return to whatever it is you were doing )

      • GALT

        Frank Kahn says:

And you are a moronic imbecile,

The final death of Alfred Binet?

so now that we know you are incapable of reasonable discourse, move on.

Having presented the evidence and stated my conclusion just above, I have moved on…….

Your pathetic nonsense is just that, nonsense.

        You are such a wordsmith……

You have not idea what the words mean that you use.

        You mean like:

nonsense: ideas, behaviour, or statements that are not true or sensible
drivel: stupid and unimportant things that someone says or writes
rubbish: things that someone says or writes that are not reasonable or sensible
garbage: something that someone says or writes that is completely false, silly, or wrong
double dutch: speech or writing that is impossible to understand
ravings : unreasonable or crazy things that someone says
stuff : used for saying that what someone says or thinks is nonsense
        gobbledegook : nonsense
mumbo-jumbo : ideas, beliefs, or customs that you think are nonsense
spiel : the things that someone says on a particular occasion, especially things that are not interesting or sincere because they sound like a prepared speech

so you won’t have to use the same word twice?

You twist every word you use. You lie about yourself and pretend that you have a brain.

No doubt a convincing and compelling case in whatever reality you inhabit.

There is only two cures for your type of mental disorder, God and death.

While I appreciate the offer, since it would solve all of your problems…..suicide is
not necessary Frank……I am perfectly willing to be the object of any and all such demonstrations of your superior intellect……..especially when they can be so useful
and instructive for others. Did you have anything else…..I realize you must be
quite exhausted having clearly drawn upon every resource available to you
in composing this masterpiece of literary and logically constructed refutation?

        • Frank Kahn

Ah, the great GALT, master of ad hominem attacks.

Your reference to alfred binet is not an answer to any statement I made. If you are attempting to use it to show the origin of IQ testing, that is a non valid response to my indication of your lack of knowledge.

Copying the definitions of a select few words impresses me to no end.

I can definitely see where your words fit most of the categories you defined.

The fact that the list of words does not contain any of the words that you misuse makes them, how would you pick from your list, (drivel, nonsense).

Your definition of double dutch would seem to fit your method of writing.

      • Right Brain Thinker

Frank, there’s an old saying—”You mess with the bull, you feel the horns”—ever hear it? Now you’re attacking GALT along with me? I’ve been away from the site today, so maybe you’ve gone after Flash as well? Do you have a death wish?

        • Frank Kahn

Ah, RBT, now you change your tactics from personal attacks to threats of violence?

“Frank, there’s an old saying—”You mess with the bull, you feel the horns”—ever hear it? Now you’re attacking GALT along with me? I’ve been away from the site today, so maybe you’ve gone after Flash as well? Do you have a death wish?”

Last item first, when Flashy says something ridiculous, I respond and tell him where and why he is wrong. I have not read all the current thread so I am not aware of that happening today.

GALT, has many of the same logic problems that you do, however my statement about his ARROGANCE and IGNORANCE is factually based the same as with you.

Once again this quote shows your arrogance, which you carry to a new level, by implying that there might be physical consequences to my disagreeing with you.

      • GALT

        nah frank……it was actually a math question……………

        moronic imbecile = ?

      • GALT

Also frank…..the description “willfully ignorant, functionally illiterate, talking monkey”,
is neither “ad hominem” nor intended as hurtful…….it is simply an accurate
description of, 1.) your knowledge base, 2.) your comprehension skills 3.)
your reasoning skills and finally 4.) your level of evolved intelligence.

The screen play is based on a book, and I read the book, in the year it was written.
The search for the book, led me to the film, which I then referred to my audience
here because of the subject material of this article.

I did not screen the film……I have never seen it before, but I remembered the flag
sequence which made it relevant to this article……and this is covered far more
extensively in the book…………( you see you actually inspired me to watch the film )

The film, is actually more powerful……even though the flag sequence is extremely
abbreviated………because the teacher doesn’t LIE, not once, about anything.

The only way an evolved intelligence ( able to reason logically ) can see a hidden
agenda in the film….is to be already predisposed ( programmed ) to seeing one.
And there are multiple triggers……..so if I were the instructor, screening this film
for a class…….the home work assignment would be, how many are there,
        and what are they?

I am not here to be “hurtful” Frank……what would be the point of that? Trust me,
being among you is far more painful for me….than it could ever be for you.

“Frank, there’s an old saying—”You mess with the bull, you feel the horns”—ever hear it? Now you’re attacking GALT along with me? I’ve been away from the site today, so maybe you’ve gone after Flash as well? Do you have a death wish?”

Ah, RBT, now you change your tactics from personal attacks to threats of violence?

Frankie boy, I believe that will find what RBT has done under the definition of metaphor and/or figuratively. Unlike the post below by Daniel R Kupke Sr….where violence is threatened and repeated. I know that when you see words, you blurt out the first thing that comes to mind, which sadly seems to contain so little……but you really need to confront the TRUTH here…….YOU CAN’T READ!!!!!!!!!!

Last item first, when Flashy says something ridiculous, I respond and tell him where and why he is wrong. I have not read all the current thread so I am not aware of that happening today.

Well that would be interesting to see, whomever you think you have actually managed to accomplish it with. There is certainly no evidence of that happening here.</b?

GALT, has many of the same logic problems that you do,

That should read “problems with logic” and if such problems exist, then you would be able to provide evidence as well as correction….. instead you produce evidence that YOU CAN’T WRITE, either.

however my statement about his ARROGANCE and IGNORANCE is factually based the same as with you.

While you have a gift for mimicry, that “ignorance” exists, is once again, easily demonstrated with evidence……all we see for you, is “monkey see, monkey do, do ,do, do.”

Once again this quote shows your arrogance, which you carry to a new level, by implying that there might be physical consequences to my disagreeing with you.

It’s all in your mind Frankie……..of course being that you are of such “small mind”, that this is overwhelming for you is understandable.

As with the “teacher” in the film, what I am doing here is de-programming……but the substance of MY OFFERING regarding this article is the simple conclusion which resides at the end of the three posts which deal with the “actual evidence” for this article.

FINAL NOTE:This represents the entirety of information on this story……which as the last paragraph here notes…..is completely worthless in formulating an “opinion”………let alone anything approaching “intelligent”, or even possibly intelligent.

If you are seeking actual “ignorance” you will find plenty of it here, if you are capable of recognizing it.

If you were planning on producing “evidence” of MY logical errors or reasoning as it actually pertains to this article……..I suggest you get to it………..because all that you have produced so far is evidence that……wait for it………………….wait for it…………….

You are a “willfully ignorant, functionally illiterate, talking monkey.”

        Q.E.D.

P.S. These posts are flying all over this board…….in any case, I’ll leave your
other idiocy to RBT below…….for him to deal with…….bye Frank, go Patriot’s….

That would be the real one’s……from New England.

      • Right Brain Thinker

Uh Frankie, maybe you haven’t noticed, but that “death wish” thing I was asking about appears to have been granted (metaphorically and figuratively speaking, of course).

So perhaps you need to go see the good Doctor F at the castle and get a reanimating jolt of lightning through those studs in your neck. Ask him to install a better brain while he’s at it. If DaveH is there on his day off from shilling and is helping Doctor F, RUN for the exits instead—-DaveH just might trade brains with you and you’d come out on the short end of that deal.

PS, I’m not up on my FrankKahnStein legends, so I don’t know if all the pitchfork, club, and torch wounds you have accumulated lately are bothering you, but the doctor should have something to help you there as well. (It might be easier if you just avoided the folks with the pitchforks, clubs, and torches—-but that death wish thing is sometimes hard to deal with, I guess)

I have this shirt that is a American Flag n I’d love to go there n see if he would want to stomp on it too while I am wearing it !!! It’d allmost be worth the drive there to just walk in that classroom without saying a word to him n just stomp the [expletive deleted] right out’a him n look at the rest of the class n smile n walk out !!!???

      • Gordon

Up through the 60s or more, if you would have worn a shirt that looked like a flag, the general public would have stomped you. Today things have changed. Few people care about flag etiquite, and even fewer fly the flag on specific “flag days”. After 9/11 was forgotten, few flags fly anywhere.

      • Gordon

Danniel, if you were so adamant about flag protocol, you’d go to the VFW or some place and get a flag etiquite book, and then burn your damn shirt and start following the all established rules…… not just the ones that suit you.

talking monkey’s and their power to impress me.

      • GALT

You can take the “willfully ignorant, functionally illiterate, talking monkeys” out of the jungle…………..

Frank, have you been drinking? Is that how you spend your Saturdays? You say a lot of dumb and mindless stuff, but this goes beyond that—–it sounds like you’ve had a few too many.

        • Frank Kahn

          And once again, RBT

“Frank, have you been drinking? Is that how you spend your Saturdays? You say a lot of dumb and mindless stuff, but this goes beyond that—–it sounds like you’ve had a few too many.”

proof by bald assertion: dumb and mindless is a subjective analysis so you are giving an opinion but stating it as fact.

ad absurdity: since you THINK what I say is mindless you accuse me of being intoxicated.

Combined these also add up to an ad hominem attack.

Once again you use personal attacks instead of responding to the statements made.

You know, RBT, I can keep this up till the day you die. I dont have to go back and find all the personal attacks because you keep doing it in the present. Let me know when you decide to stop acting this way and want to discuss something instead of simple personal attacks.

      • Right Brain Thinker

Frank Kahn is cracking under the strain—-his overreach is becoming even more obvious.

He gives us another one of his “logic lessons”—-you know, where you copy something out of “Logic for Dummies” and act as if you know what it means? Frank says “proof by bald assertion: dumb and mindless is a subjective analysis so you are giving an opinion but stating it as fact”.

No, Frank, I have been reading all your horsepucky for a while now and have rather OBJECTIVELY formed some opinions that are way more supportable than yours. Remember that I have spent thousands of hours of my life sitting in classrooms as part of the teacher evaluation process, observing all activity and analyzing every word spoken—-and later writing it up and discussing it in formal “post observation conferences” with the teacher. IMO, this comment DOES differ from your others—sorry to say but you just sound drunk, and I have talked to a lot of drunks in my time, including some drunk TEACHERS, so I will assert some “expertise” there. And it’s OK to get drunk, Frank—-embarrass yourself all you want on PLD when you do so—-just don’t drive or handle guns..

And your use of “ad hominem attack” is getting wearisome, to say nothing of being quite hypocritical. And did you buy the rights from DaveH—-he “owns” the term, you know.

“Once again you use personal attacks instead of responding to the statements made”. If you say so, Frank—–like many of the folks on PLD, you too apparently believe that if you say something enough times, it will become true. Go look that trick up in your “Logic for Dummies” book and give us an explanation that you don’t understand.

Here is the comment that makes me think Frank is cracking under the strain. He says,

“You know, RBT, I can keep this up till the day you die. I don’t have to go back and find all the personal attacks because you keep doing it in the present. Let me know when you decide to stop acting this way and want to discuss something instead of simple personal attacks”.

Those of you who have been watching me continue to beat Frank’s “brains” out here in our little “battle of wits” (only half in Frank’s case) may recall Frank’s earlier chest beating and “challenges” to go back and bring out all that stuff. He has now figured out all that “stuff” will make him look like an even bigger fool and he’s weaseling out of doing it! After I TWICE said “Go for it” to him. Give us the WHOLE series of the SHOUTING exchanges and the “brain” stuff where you said a book was biased because of its TITLE and you hadn’t even read it. I can do it because I save many of my more “treasured” moments on PLD as WORD documents and those exchanges were priceless—-I’d rather not because I really don’t want to embarrass you any more than you already embarrass yourself—–I will send your own words back to you and say “Let me know when you decide to stop acting this way and want to really discuss something”—-all this is a bit of fun but really not very productive, certainly not for you. You’re never going to “beat me”, Frank—-you ought to “join me” instead.

Only a fool would not recognize that I too can “keep this up until the day I die” (Semper Fidelis and Laus Veritas and all that), and only an anal orifice like Frank would make such a crass comment. And yes, Frank, that IS a personal attack on someone who has gotten rather personal and said something that can be interpreted as NOT “wishing me well”. Rest assured, if I were to fall off the chair and die “right now”, one of the last things I would probably say is “FrankKahnstein is an Anal Orifice and so is DaveH aka Dead Lizard Brain Eater”. LOL

(And please start putting the apostrophe in “dont” since you’re really saying “don’t”, the contraction for “do not”. I’m getting tired of doing that in my replies. I don’t want to “upset” you, but my science background always brings “tooth” to mind when I see “dont”, and that distracts me from fully appreciating the brilliance of your comments).

(And notice—-as a gesture of reconciliation, I have not mentioned “feeling friendly towards certain waterfowl” here—-will Frank say something in his reply that makes me resurrect that phrase?—-time will tell)

      • Right Brain Thinker

Has anyone noticed that comments disappear from PLD threads? Not too many, and not too often, but it does happen. Case in point is Frank’s comment that prompted our little exchange above over his being “drunk in public”—-it was directed at GALT, if I recall and appears to be gone. I have seen the same thing happen around comments made by or to DaveH, although DaveH throws so much horsepucky that it is really hard to keep track of it all. (PS—-a flash thought—does the H in DaveH stand for “horsepucky”?)

        • Frank Kahn

Do you have a point? Do you track all comments to see if any get removed? Should I complain to the moderators about your abusive posts to see if they disapear?

This “Teacher” (used the word not known to most this day and age as to what that means) is another example of a Government indoctrination tactic to alienate humans (?) from being Americans, changing the history of America and destroying the generation that are now students. Yes, I agree, he is probably being paid while on leave. HE SHOULD BE FIRED!!

  • jim robator

He should be fired and never be able to teach our kids again he is supposed to teach but not how to be disrespectful.

  • Gary L

We all understand that the flag is a symbol and stands for America. The sad part is that our own government is crapping on what the flag stands for and gets away with it every day.

  • Too Tall

They let jerks burn it, ragheads tear it to shreds, that’s okay. The teacher had a point to make, and I think that point has been missed. You can trample a piece of cloth, yes, you can’t trample the symbolism, unless you’re an elected official.

  • Sedona05

Maybe America should deport him, say, to Mexico. He can teach his “ideas” there, and perhaps this will cut down on the illegal aliens that come here…

  • Kelley Grigsby

As a US Marine, I agree it was an irritating act and he went overboard. My main reason for writing is Mr Rolley’s spot on description of how our country is being killed by the graft and corruption that is Washington, D.C. Wake up America, before all our fathers, brothers and sisters not just in military action, sacrifices to build this country are lost as our democracy fails as ALL others have in the past to government corruption and tyranny.
It is a very sad display of where we have gotten to that Obama was reelected by as much as 140% of the legal registered voters of some polling districts in this our AmeriKa.
    Wake UP sheeple!!!

      Spot on sir!
While I may not agree with the teacher’s choice in presentation, I will defend his right to do so.
Apparently reason and logic has been replaced by heartstrings and emotion in this country (as so many of these posts show)…how sad for us as a nation… People who villify or glorify inanimate objects (of any kind)…have serious issues that need to be addressed.

      AJ

      • Jim S

Here’s the problem as I see it. First, there are laws governing the flag (unfortunately they have no teeth). One says the flag shall never touch the ground (can’t stomp on it without it touching the ground). Second, is the courts misintrepretation of Freedom of Speech. Saying something about the flag is freedom of speech. Stomping, burning, tearing, etc. the flag is not speech. These are actions. I see it as not being different from saying something about a person, i.e. “I hate you”. Freedom of speech. But, when I move to hitting them because I hate them, I’ve now committed assault. Why? Because I moved from speech to action. No longer am I protected by the 1st Amendment. All this requires is the application of a little logic. So, someone desecrating the flag is taking an action. No longer protected by the 1st amendment. Now if the activist judges could just obtain a little logic and comprehension we could fix this and many other problems.

      • Nadzieja Batki

I’ll disagree with you on this one. You are a typical male and presumably you have things in your life that you love then you would be offended and outraged if some stranger came and destroyed or defaced the object of your love. A lot of us love this country and the flag that symbolizes this country. Why didn’t the jerk teacher get a hold of some other country’s flag and stomp on it?

      • Average Joe

        Jim S,

The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. It is Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq). This is a U.S. federal law, but there is no penalty for failure to comply with it. In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that punitive enforcement would conflict with the First Amendment right to freedom of speech.[1]

This etiquette is as applied within U.S. jurisdiction. In other countries and places, local etiquette applies.

Not laws… advisory rules for display and care.

        Nadzieja Batki ,

“You are a typical male and presumably you have things in your life that you love then you would be offended and outraged if some stranger came and destroyed or defaced the object of your love.”

Yes I do, and yes I would…if and only if…. it is my personal property. If you own a flag and want to destroy it, it concerns me in no way whatsoever..you own it and you are free to do as you please with it. If I own it, then you don’t have the right to do as you please with it.
I said that I didn’t agree with his presentation…since I personally don’t disrespect the flag…but it is his right to do so…it is still considered to be free speach. If you are going to disregard one right…how long before the rest follow?
People tend to get too bent out of shape over symbols..that is after all what a flag is…a symbol of freedom. The flag is not freedom…it is just the symbol…symbols can be replaced.

A symbol is something that represents an idea, a process, or a physical entity. The purpose of a symbol is to communicate meaning. The symbol is not the THING…in this case being… freedom.

          Hello again

“Hope apparently has been drinking today also I wonder if she and Frank Kahn are drinking buddies?. They are certainly buddies in saying things that sound quite mindless and are hard to decipher.”

Proof by bald assertion: no fact is presented to support the accusation that hope drinks, nor do you have any information about my drinking habits.

Ad hominem attack: to assert that something sounds mindless simply because you cant understand is a major error in logic. The fact that you cant decipher it is a reflection on your reading comprehension skills not our ability to communicate.

And, once again you prove my case. You are either refusing to or are incapable of responding to a post without using personal attacks.

      • Right Brain Thinker

Frank Kahn again shows us that he does NOT understand what he plucks from Logic for Dummies, as will be self-evident to anyone with half a brain who reads his.comment and Nadzi’s. I hope the two of them are not boozing it up on the Lord’s Day (although today isn’t the Lord’s Day for Nadzi, so I guess she can)

Show us YOUR reading comprehension skills, Frank. Tell us what Nadzi is saying. Or get your 11-year-old niece to do it. Lord love a duck, Frank!

Leaving the thread for a while, Frank—-painting a kitchen—-so you can scurry around and search out all my comments like a puppy dog seeking a treat, and then make your feeble attacks. As a retired teacher, and having had to deal with children that have been successfully, and systematically DUMBED DOWN by the Department of Education in this benighted country, I am sure that the young student was so busy putting on her lipstick, texting her friends, and not listening to the teacher, that the teacher, in desperation went on an extreme tangent to show the asleep class the meaning of the word “symbolism”. Whilst I agree that it showed disrespect for the flag, I can assure you that if there were muslims in the class, they would have clapped, if their were trayvons in the class they would have clapped. If It is was an arab flag the latte one would have had the man arrested, and sent to solitary confinement for 50 years waiting to be strung up outside – a storm in a tea cup. Everyone with a bit of sense should know that those that love America will love the flag no matter what is done to it in the attempt to show kids what symbolism means. Enough already.

    • http://Yahoo JD

Thanks for a true comment on the “education” of our young people. It must have been very frustrating to you. Sadly, what this English teacher was trying to get across, was not comprehended anyway. And I at first was angered. But most, including me, don’t think of anything but love of country, and the sacrifices made for our Freedoms when we see, or salute that wonderfull flag.

      • Right Brain Thinker

Uh, JD—-you really should be careful when you use the word “true”. It DOES have a meaning and it does NOT apply to any of this OPINION. Please say what you really mean next time, as in “I like the way this sounds, even though it is nothing more than unsubstantiated opinion from one person. That doesn’t matter, I like it, therefore I will declare it to be true”.

        • Frank Kahn

          Gee, RBT, isnt this fun?

“Uh, JD—-you really should be careful when you use the word “true”. It DOES have a meaning and it does NOT apply to any of this OPINION. Please say what you really mean next time, as in “I like the way this sounds, even though it is nothing more than unsubstantiated opinion from one person. That doesn’t matter, I like it, therefore I will declare it to be true”

A little hard to classify this one as a single logic error.

proof by bald assertion: it is NOTHING more than UNSUBSTANTIATED opinion from ONE person.
Since you are pushing meanings, lets break this down.
Unsubstantiated – does this mean that you dont agree with all the other people that say the same thing? Is substantiation only acceptable if you agree with the source?
Is it JUST the OPINION of ONE person, because he only responded to one person?
Is something NOT TRUE just because it is an OPINION?
Can you PROVE that the experiences of the person dont support his opinion?
Would you feel better if he used accurate or correct instead of true?

      • Right Brain Thinker

Frank Kahn says, “Gee, RBT, isnt this fun?”

Frank says, “A little hard to classify this one as a single logic error”, as he madly flips through the pages of his Logic for Dummies book looking for things to say.. He finds some and piles them up, once again proving that he doesn’t really read and understand his “Dummies” book, but just plucks things that sound good to him and then bores us all to death with them. Almost like a mises.org reference from DaveH, and about as useful.

Actually, Frank, if you had any logic skills at all, you would realize that JD is the one who is guilty of what you say I did, when he says it was a “TRUE comment on the “education” of our young people” and then follows that with his other “interpretations”. I merely pointed out to him that he had no basis for saying that and you are apparently not smart enough to recognize the logic of that. To be fair, you are so obviously intent on attacking me (a guy who “does not upset you”, remember) that you may have been “distracted” by the need to pursue your mission. Thank you for once again proving our points (Galt and I and others), the main one being that you are a non-thinking and illogical fool.

And no, it’s not really all that much fun, Frank. I don’t really enjoy watching someone continually shoot themselves in the foot (metaphorically speaking) and make themselves look foolish. I’m an educator, so I would rather help you understand than continue to beat your “brains” out in a lost cause. But since YOU seem to think it’s fun proving you are an idiot to all, I guess I will be a “good neighbor” and help you do that, especially since you seem so determined to “have fun”.

Lord love a duck, Frank! You are (almost) one of a kind.

  • donimn

I believe stomping on our flag is disrespectful. Your not supposed to let it touch the ground, but I’m sure it has been dropped, but not intentionally. Personally, I have great respect for our flag of these United States of America. Stomping on our flag to prove a point, is really, really in bad taste. This may be the type of person that shouldn’t have a weapon? Now, I don’t know, but wacko’s are coming from somewhere?

  • Texas Rebel

Just consider what would happen to a white teacher who symbolically formed 2 popsicle sticks into a cross & lit them, or hung a noose from the ceiling in school to illustrate that the symbols have no meaning in themselves. Or, what if he spit on a picture of Obama, or MLK, or the Israeli flag? He would not get a paid vacation, he would not be reprimanded, he would be fired and very probably prosecuted under hate crimes laws because he offended a minority of the kids. This creep will get away with his deplorable act of disrespect because he merely offended citizens who love the country and the freedom which is represented by its flag.

  • Jim Turner

I am a 69 yr old veteran who honors all that America stands for. Every morning I went to school, the day was started with a prayer and a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. I doubt this teacher represents the average school teacher of our system. I would think there would have been a much better way to get his point across without desecrating the flag that represents so much. Therefore, in my opinion, this teacher represents what is wrong with our school system today and should be punished for his inability to teach. I just hope, his punishment is without pay. I would hate to think we are, backhandedly, rewarding this behavior.

  • rendarsmith

The First amendment protects his right to be stupid. I served 21 years in the military and that service was to protect his right to be stupid. I don’t have to agree with him (and I certainly do not), but the issue is i will fight for his right to be stupid in his free speech. We get upset at this, but because of “fear” our rights have been usurped by the Patriot Act and are under great fire with regard to the second amendment. Without a strongly upheld and enforced 2nd amendment, the other rights will fall like dominoes and our liberal politicians on both side of the aisle know this. “You have to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything”. Wake up everybody, WAKE UP!!!!

    • Nadzieja Batki

Nice pious BS, the Leftists love to hear from people like you. Why wasn’t the teacher careful not to hurt and offend the students and the people who would be hearing of his shenanagins.

I’m glad Compton didn’t do that to the Confederate flag.

  • Motov

Unfortunately people do have a right to be morons, and I’ll exercise my right to tell them to move if the USA offends them that much!

  • K. Lee

Apparently he’s never served his country. When a fallen comrade sees fellow soldiers coming to help and those soldiers are wearing the U.S. flag there is a sense of relief. He/she knows they will do everything in their power to save them. If there is any other flag upon that uniform, the bravery and intention is questionable. Yes, people may have the freedom to disgrace the flag but patriotism instills gracing it with respect.

  • Hedgehog

OK people, I am a Canadian, so the respect/disrespect thing doesn’t affect me. However, the teacher was guilty of doing more than disrespecting the symbol of your nation. He was disrespecting/destroying YOUR PROPERTY! If someone came into your home and took your grandmother’s sampler off the wall or the white linen tablecloth off your table, or anything else and began stomping it, you would be perfectly within your rights to throw that person out of your house. This is in essence what the school board has done. Further charges, such as; destruction of public property, should be considered. As far as I can see the First Amendment doesn’t give anyone the right to destroy private or public (commonly owned) property!

  • http://gravatar.com/bychoosing WTS/JAY

From the article:“Our superintendent served in the military, I served in the military for 20 years, our flag is a symbol of our freedom, and so many people have fought and died for that liberty, and so we take this action very seriously,” said Mark Bounds, a spokesperson for the school district Lexington-Richland 5.

The flag is a symbol of our freedom? How so? I should think that rather, the flag is a symbol of our captivity, and that America is possessed/owned by a consortium of giant-corporations and private-banks, who are protected by an army of lawyers and backed by a duplicitous and viscously-corrupt circus that we refer to as, “government ! Freedom? How can America claim to be free when it is engaged in perpetual-wars and saddled by gargantuan-debt; and that, by design? Any astute person of history will recognize that the same “parasitical-infestation” that is feeding off of America’s life-blood, is the very same “parasitical-infestation” responsible for the rise and fall of all previous nations or so-called empires. America is just another unsuspecting-host, that will soon be rendered “completely-harvested”!

Fanning the flames of patriotism, Mr. Roley, without understanding our true status as slaves/chattel, will only result in slaves cheering and supporting their captivity! Absurd!

    • Right Brain Thinker

Dang, JAY—-You just HAD to come out swinging with that same old axe I like to grind with you sometimes, even though it it will be hard to hit anything with it on this thread. Or are you just trying to stir things up and see who “bites”? I will.

Unfortunately, just like doctors and lawyers, 50% of all teachers graduate in the bottom half of their class—-we need to remember that when we try to put this foolishness in perspective. We have folks making many good arguments on both sides here—-from “off with his head” (and slash his achilles tendon—my favorite) to “remember the 1st. Amendment—he has a right to be stupid, etc”

My two cents—-young Mr. Compton is employed by the school district to teach a “subject” and do it in a sensible and responsible way that will not cause the school community or the school district any grief. It might be appropriate for him to stomp on HIS flag on HIS time at some place OTHER than in school, but he is dumber than the dumbest pile of horsepucky ever posted on PLD by DaveH to do what he did. Young, foolish, attention seeker—who knows—-he screwed up and they will deal appropriately with him according to the “culture” of that particular community—-it’s a PUBLIC school and is responsible to its “public” (which does NOT include all the folks running their mouths here on PLD).

This whole thing is just a distraction anyway—-to get back on track with JAY, it’s all just “bread and circuses” for the masses, and I will second JAY when he says “Fanning the flames of patriotism, Mr. Roley, without understanding our true status as slaves/chattel, will only result in slaves cheering and supporting their captivity! Absurd!”, even though JAY is again a bit over the top with his rhetoric

PS, I am reminded of a “counseling and admonishment” session (the PC term for an ass-chewing) I once had with a young chemistry teacher who almost burned down the school and injured his students doing a demonstration with a chunk of phosphorus nearly the size of a finger. He, like young Mr. “Flag Stomper”, thought that he had to do BIG things in order to impress young minds with the power and glory of chemical reactions. He was told in no uncertain terms that a repeat performance would mark his last day in the building. Dumb is dumb and it will be dealt with in the school—-it need not be made into a national media circus.

From the 1963 Congressional Record – Communist Goals -Note number 17, and 29 thry 31:
    1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
    2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
    3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
    4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
    5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
    6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.
    7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.
    8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.
    9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.
    10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.
    11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
    12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
    13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
    14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
    15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
    16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
    17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
    18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
    19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
    20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
    21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
    22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
    23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
    24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
    25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
    26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
    27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
    28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
    29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
    30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
    31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
    32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
    33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
    34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
    35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
    36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
    37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
    38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].
    39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
    40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
    41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
    42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.
    43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
    44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
    45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

How many times are we going to have to read this horsepucky before people stop posting it? Something written by an ex-FBI agent 50 or 60 years ago has any meaning today? Long after the death of Stalin, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the tearing down of the Iron Curtain, and the virtual death of communism in every country of the world except Koobah and North Karazy?

Lord love a duck! Save us from these fools who have nothing to say and just find something (anything) to post that fits their paranoia and self-delusion.

Read Karl Marx ideaology that the maddrass educated a(former muslim} by Rev Wrong ideals, just beleives the BS, and wants to inplement bu executive orders. Also the jug eared one embraces socialist/communist ideals that all the democrat party endorse this BS too. The idoits that embrace and vote for anyone with a D by their name know their main goal is to ruin the USA.

  • ROGER, Irish-Canadian LIBERTARIAN

Those who commit treason against your country are heroes( politicians for example), or at the very least, ignored,as evidenced by some of the ignorant comments here while the teacher is condemned AND punished for trying to make a VERY IMPORTANT point. It is all part of the superficial, shallow, historically-challenged, militaristic society now in existence, especially in the U.S.

    • Right Brain Thinker

Hey! A guy with “Libertarian” in his handle who makes some sense! I would quibble with why the teacher is being punished, though—-he’s being punished for being dumb.

      • http://yahoo.com Ron

Do it in any other Country and he would be DEAD! Which is a very long time punishment! Unless of course you believe in GOD!

  • Betty Dalhover

No matter what his motives, it was A VERY BAD idea. I feel if a teacher has to stomp the flag of the United States of America to make a point he is not much of a teacher and should look for other employment….

  • Richard

It seems that Kruschev was correct. With the recent administrations, Communism is alive and well. Pres wants equality in the masses. He is now a comparitively rich man. Recantly assured he will get his lifetime money. At what point do the people of this country determine they have had enough? Executive orders only reaffirm MY opinion that all of the masses on the dole in D.C. need replaced. They believe they are bigger than life!

    • http://yahoo.com Ron

OH MY GOD! Someone finally gets it and is intelligent enough to say! THANK YOU SIR!

  • http://www.facebook.com/benjamin.fox.98892 Benjamin Fox

Can’t help but notice a couple or a few names haven’t commented on this one, I guess it is because they would agree with the teacher, right trashy flashy dashy, eddie teddy 47 ways to be a commie and Karolyn? Says a lot about them.

    • Right Brain Thinker

Actually, Benjamin, it says a lot about YOU that you can’t come up with anything more intelligent to say than this.

I assume I am the “right trashy” part of this juvenile mish-mosh of names you posted here? If so, it says a lot about YOU that you missed the comment I posted over TWO HOURS ago—-scroll up—-it’s still there—-a reply to WTS/JAY.
      .
Of course, it IS more than a few sentences long, and there ARE just a few big words in there, and it has some THOUGHT behind it, so you probably skipped over it. I understand. My sympathies.

Disrespecting the symbol of the United States of America is disrespecting the country for which that flag stands; disrespecting the people who died to earn the freedoms you enjoy; disrespecting those who have fought to maintain those freedoms and yes, even disrespecting your friends, neighbors and students who salute that flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance “To the Flag, And the United States of America”.

  • http://DWFields.com DWFields

Many of you people seem to have forgotten that this teacher is in South Carolina, one of the most Republican states in our country. I’m definitely willing to wager he is a registered Republican.

On the other hand, South Carolina has already seceded from the U.S. once–what’s to keep them from trying again? Maybe you’re blaming the wrong people for his bad attitude.

  • Evan

Listen to the sheep on here! What a sorry bunch of cowards who refuse to defend a man’s actions to explain that flags are just symbols. A flag isn’t freedom. Freedom comes from our actions. And all you morons are displaying the exact opposite of freedom when you are ready to crucify this teacher for him exercising his freedom. Fools and pawns.

    • http://yahoo.com Ron

OUR FLAG Mr. Nitwit, represents those who GAVE you your freedom. Study what the RED and WHITE bars mean and then study what the Blue Field and Stars mean! Then if you still don’t understand, I will give a personal lesson on American History, this is from a 3rd Generation Combat Vet who became 100% disabled fighting for your so called” freedom’! I can guaranty you my friend you would be doing this in any other Country, in fact you wouldn’t even be talking about! You’d be in prison or dead!

    • http://yahoo.com Ron

P.S> Evan, like to see you call me a “sheep” to my face!

  • gunner

Let’s all stomp on his union contract and see how that goes.

I believe that any damage or destruction of our AMERICAN FLAG should remain OK under any law… that leaves me KICKING THEIR

    Frank Kahn says:
    January 12, 2013 at 9:45 pm

    Q.E.D.

  • Boo Taylor

I just now read this blog today. I can see that some, like Gal T, just like to antagonize right wingers. Stir crap and it will stink Gal. Unfortunately, there are so many like yourself in our government and your elitist attitude (mind you, attitude) will be our undoing. You wanna control something, control your ignorant mouth. Muzzles are cheap.

  • http://yahoo.com Ron

OH! SO the U.S. Flag is ‘just” a symbol and means nothing yet it is Schools? OK then the Ten Commandments and a prayer in the morning at the beginning of School, is “just” a symbol and allowed also! As a U.S. 3rd Generation Combat Veteran (100% Disabled) fighting for his rights, I would love to meet MR. WONDERFUL Teacher on the street someday so I could teach him about American History and the U.S. Flag. If wants to stomp on a flag, there are plenty of others, (Iran, Russia, China, North Korea to name a few. My Daughter is a Teacher and she wants at him faster than I do. Mr. Teacher, better keep one eye on your back, for a Single, U.S. American Teacher, 5’5″ tall 125 lbs wants to kick your dumb ass! You should loose your job!

  • SJJolly

America as an “inspirational idea, greater than the “material objects that represent it,” goes over the head of many people. A piece of colored cloth, as a symbol of America, they can understand, and be willing to kill and die over disrespect to it.

    • Joey

You support flag desecration using an argument Lindsey Graham and endless progressives has used that America is a “notion” instead of an actual nation.
There’s NO excuse for this. I’m Libertarian leaning and I DON’T hate America like this author and the other flag burners. He doesn’t speak for anybody except anti-Americans like Jeremiah “God damn America” Wright and others who engage in that “don’t blame me for hating America” and “it’s just a flag” bunk who think actually loving your country is foolish.

  • Joey

“But is it also a symbol of the abuses of the American government? Furthermore, as the rights of Americans become more endangered with each legislative movement in Washington, is patriotism and flag-worship wise in the United States of today?”
“f the Nation’s people aren’t careful to remember that the America isn’t simply a flag filled with the memory of our war fallen, the very same piece of cloth will be used as a blindfold to dissidence as, for the benefit of the few, Washington’s criminal class undo everything those millions of dead fought to protect.
If you must pledge your allegiance, pledge your allegiance to the Constitution — if only until the Nation is able to clean the stains of evil and corruption from the cloth of its flag.”
Straight out of the mouth of Jeremiah Wright, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Ward Churchill or or any other anti-American.

I care about freedom and the Constitution and you know what? I DON’T hate America. >:( You clearly do and think it should pay for it’s ‘sins’. This story and article glorifying the desecration of the flag makes me mad. Hating the country and hating the government are two different things and just because governments try to use patriotism to get support for what they want DOESN’T MEAN THEY’RE RIGHT AND wE SHOULD HATE AMERICA! You can’t claim you don’t the way you malign patriotism. You should be ashamed and this makes me sick.
