Officials: Mali Man Tried To Get Into Spanish Enclave In Suitcase
MELILLA, Spain (UPI) — Spain’s Interior Ministry said Civil Guard Police in the African enclave of Melilla discovered a would-be migrant from Mali hiding in a suitcase.
The ministry said Civil Guard Police between Melilla and the Moroccan town of Beni Ansar spotted a man, a Moroccan national who lives in Spain, attempting to drag a very large suitcase into Melilla Sunday and the man refused to stop when police gave chase, TheLocal.es reported Monday.
The officers caught up to the man and discovered his bag contained a 19-year-old Mali man attempting to sneak across the border.
The Interior Ministry said both men were arrested and remained in custody Monday.
