Offense Wins Championships

Offense Wins Championships
Democrats are turning the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act into a political football.

In recent weeks, I have taken up a position that responding defensively to the Democrats’ baseless charges that the GOP is fighting a war on women is, at best, as silly as signing on to be Ed Schultz’s personal trainer and, at worst, the political equivalent of asking “Billy, is that you?” before walking into a spooky farmhouse in a slasher film. Both are colossal wastes of time.

In my estimation, for conservatives to guide Team America to pay dirt, we must get the offense on the field. Touchdowns are hard to come by if you never leave the shadow of your own goalposts.

Leave it to the senior Senator from the Empire State to prove me right. Last week, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) complained that the Republicans were trying to kill the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Presuming everyone knows that abusing women is simply unacceptable — a leap of faith undercut by the goings-on in the Occupy Wall Street squatters’ camps and most liberal-tainted broadcasts — it’s hard to imagine any one of our 535 Congressional representatives would vote against VAWA as it was originally written and passed.

In fact, given the severity of the offenses against women that are embodied in putting one’s hands on a woman, it’s even harder to imagine someone so bereft of common decency that he or she would turn what ought to be an unopposable bill into a political football in an election year. Surely, not one of those august men and women of Capitol Hill is so twisted that he or she would risk the safety of our sisters, mothers, wives and daughters by tacking hyper-partisan and/or wasteful addenda to the bill designed to protect the fairer sex.

Enter the pride of Park Slope. To paraphrase George C. Scott channeling General George S. Patton: Chuckie, you magnificently cynical bastard! We read your press release!

Schumer has been doing yeoman work behind the scenes to fast-track the renewal of VAWA, simultaneously decrying Senate Republican efforts to hold up the bill so the public can examine some interesting new ornaments Schumer and his Democratic accomplices have applied. Among them: provisions that grant visas to illegal aliens who claim to be victims of domestic abuse — without checks to ensure against the sort of fraud that such stipulations virtually guarantee.

But in attempting to use the Republican stance against the new iteration of VAWA to perpetuate the Democrats’ preposterous claim of some “war on women,” Schumer has revealed more than just the usual cynical hypocrisy that has come to define the Democratic Party. Instead, he has reminded us that he and his fellow liberals are exceptionally poor students of history. VAWA first passed in 1994 with the full support of a Congress that featured Republican majorities in both houses. Reauthorizations have proceeded apace — again with the full support of Republicans. In fact, Schumer’s decision to endanger women’s safety with political pork products marks the first time anyone has dared tinker with VAWA.

I suppose to a Democrat consumed by their usual all-encompassing lust for authority without merit, the peace of mind bills like VAWA provide American women and the men who love them is fairly meaningless. But to those of us who, at the very least, don’t enjoy telling our mothers, wives or girlfriends that we just sacrificed their safety for an easier route to immigration fraud, Schumer’s (hence, the Democrats’) ploy is repulsive.

Schumer and the Democrats have made it clear they are going to play this kind of game between now and November. But the Republicans’ game plan is all defense. It is high time for the real conservatives to take the field and lead their wayward Republican teammates to pay dirt.

Good article Ben and keep them coming. Maybe the GOP and conservatives should get someone like “Old blood and guts” Patton to lead them into battle. If they did, the libs would be running faster then they are now. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

A Black man’s point of view.

        By Lloyd Marcus

As millions of my fellow Americans, I am outraged, devastated and extremely angry by the democrat’s unbelievable arrogance and disdain for We The People. Despite our screaming “no” from the rooftops, they forced Obamacare down our throats. Please forgive me for using the following crude saying, but it is very appropriate to describe what has happened. “Don’t urinate on me and tell me it’s raining.” Democrats say their mission is to give all Americans health care. The democrats are lying. Signing Obamacare into law against our will and the Constitution is tyranny and step one of their hideous goal of having as many Americans as possible dependent on government, thus controlling our lives and fulfilling Obama’s promise to fundamentally transform America .

I keep asking myself. How did our government move so far from the normal procedures of getting things done? Could a white president have so successfully pulled off shredding the Constitution to further his agenda? I think not.

Ironically, proving America is completely the opposite of the evil racist country they relentlessly accuse her of being, progressives used America ‘s goodness, guilt and sense of fair play against her. In their quest to destroy America as we know it, progressives borrowed a brilliant scheme from Greek mythology. They offered America a modern day Trojan Horse, a beautifully crafted golden shiny new black man as a presidential candidate. Democrat Joe Biden lauded Obama as the first clean and articulate African American candidate. Democrat Harry Reid said Obama only uses a black dialect when he wants.

White America relished the opportunity to vote for a black man naively believing they would never suffer the pain of being called racist again. Black Americans viewed casting their vote for Obama as the ultimate Affirmative Action for America ‘s sins of the past.

Then there were the entitlement loser voters who said, “I’m votin’ for the black dude who promises to take from those rich SOBs and give to me.”

Just as the deceived Trojans dragged the beautifully crafted Trojan Horse into Troy as a symbol of their victory, deceived Americans embraced the progressive’s young, handsome, articulate and so called moderate black presidential candidate as a symbol of their liberation from accusation of being a racist nation. Also like the Trojan Horse, Obama was filled with the enemy hiding inside.

Sunday, March 21, 2010, a secret door opened in Obama, the shiny golden black man. A raging army of democrats charged out. Without mercy, they began their vicious bloody slaughter of every value, freedom and institution we Americans hold dear; launching the end of America as we know it.

Wielding swords of votes reeking with the putrid odor of back door deals, the democrats landed a severe death blow to America and individual rights by passing Obamacare.

The mainstream liberal media has been relentlessly badgering the Tea Party movement with accusations of racism. Because I am a black tea party patriot, I am bombarded with interviewers asking me the same veiled question. “Why are you siding with these white racists against America ‘s first African American president?” I defend my fellow patriots who are white stating, “These patriots do not give a hoot about Obama’s skin color. They simply love their country and oppose his radical agenda. Obama’s race is not an issue.”

Recently, I have come to believe that perhaps I am wrong about Obama’s race not being an issue. In reality, Obama’s presidency has everything to do with racism, but not from the Tea Party movement. Progressives and Obama have exploited his race from the rookie senator’s virtually unchallenged presidential campaign to his unprecedented bullying of America into Obamacare. Obama’s race trumped all normal media scrutiny of him as a presidential candidate and most recently even the Constitution of the United States . Obamacare forces all Americans to purchase health care which is clearly unconstitutional.

No white president could get away with boldly and arrogantly thwarting the will of the American people and ignoring laws. President Clinton tried universal health care. Bush tried social security reform. The American people said “no” to both presidents’ proposals and it was the end of it. So how can Obama get away with giving the American people the finger? The answer: He is black.

The mainstream liberal media continues to portray all who oppose Obama in any way as racist. Despite a list of failed policies, overreaches into the private sector, violations of the Constitution and planned destructive legislation too numerous to mention in this article, many Americans are still fearful of criticizing our first black president. Incredible.

My fellow Americans, you must not continue to allow yourselves to be “played” and intimidated by Obama’s race or the historical context of his presidency. If we are to save America , the greatest nation on the planet, Obama’s progressive agenda must be stopped.

In politics, people must be reminded that because politics attracts mental defectives, degenerates of ALL manner and those who belong behind bars, this is NOT the time to play nice and pull a McCain. There are solid issues in this election. For starters, you do NOT let the enemy make the rules. The White House pretender has vacationed and made false promises and LIED worse than like a career criminal who was caught red-handed in public.
He was incompetent when he ‘took over,’ he’s still incompetent and America is in shambles because of him. Go for the throat. Grab whatever is painful, and take no prisoners. Most Americans are NOT better off because of the new brat in Washington. He has surrounded himself with criminals. He idolizes himself, and he’s been pampered more than an east coast, wannabe ‘elite.’ He belongs behind bars. Chicago can have him. Chicago deserves him. He’s BAD for America, and none of his partners in crime can make him look good.

    • Karolyn Tredeau

Why did you not address the issue covered in Ben’s blog that has nothing to do with Obama?

      • Ted Crawford

Are you kidding here Karolyn? ” Has nothing to do with Obama”? Given his stance on ” A path to citizenship ” IE. Amnesty, it’s all about Obama!

      • eddie47d

Since the Republicans are supposedly such strong supporters of VAWA then why all the rancor. Seems like the two sides need to come together continue their support and move on. Do Republicans support victims of abuse or not ? If the answer is yes then stay on board and keep the moral high ground.

      • eddie47d

Those of you who love women raise your hand.

    • Sirian

      You’ve hit it dead center s c!!

    • Nadzieja Batki

So by Schumer’s warped reasoning, all men are evil abusers of women. Except him and those of like mindset.
No men will be able to prove that they are decent human beings. Women in the long run will destroy any possibility of having a normal life.

  • Karolyn Tredeau

Well, it certainly does appear that their are Republicans against the additions to VAWA covering Native Americans, rural populations and same-sex couples.

You are a common bigot. MY daughter is a lesbian and a far better person with more decency and kindness in her heart than all of the rightwingers on this page combined. And every time a woman interjects a reasonable opinion or questions your hatefullness she is discharged as some kind of out of touch extremist whacko by your misogynistic ilk. If Karma exists you’ll pay for your troglodite attitudes in the fall election. I read a study a few years ago on how women and men voted as perceived by their spouses. Women interviewed almost always knew how their men voted but men were often wrong about how their spouses voted. Which is why democrats win the women’s vote consistently and conservative men don’t get it. It was referred to as the “Yes dear effect” Women who try to avoid unnecessary confrontation just tacitly agree with their men but go out and vote their conscience and heart and mind. Some people are just so arrogant about their beliefs and use the bully tactics that they don’t realize are counter productive to their cause. Kindness and a fair debate without name calling and mockery will achieve more. Perhaps you should change your handle to HATCHETMAN because of your brutal attacks. I’m sure your mother is proud, NOT!

      • http://naver samurai

When you have no facts or sources always go to the personal attack. Classic liberal strategy. Get your daughter to go to church so she can learn the error of her ways before it is too late. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

  • Alyssa

You are so interested in defeating the Democrats that you will twist whatever is being done to your own advantage. You don’t care about women, you just want to WIN against the Democrats, regardless of what happens to women: myself, my daughters, and my new granddaughter. That is appalling!

    • BradR

What a load of crap; speaking of twisting a message…… It was the republicans that gave you VAWA to start with. It has been strongly supported by them since it’s inception. What you refuse to see is that the dems are trying to slide immigration into the bill, anything to get their way because they can’t get blanket amnesty passed. If the illustrious Chuck hadn’t messed with the bill, it would go thru with no problems. Bitch at him for trying to get amnesty thru the back door.

That said I don’t think either party provides enough protection for women and/or children.

    • Nadzieja Batki

Who told you that men don’t care about women? That you need the government to be your husband, father, grandfather. You feel that the goverment will nurture you.

    • eddie47d

Most immigrants are men Brad and do you support the few women who are abused sexually,or from human trafficking? Would you eagerly send them back too for more abuse?

      • Nadzieja Batki

You are not reasoning correctly. Destroy the majority of women to save how many women? Punish all men to rescue how many women?

      • eddie47d

What women would be abused except those who have already been abused? Maybe you should reevaluate your comment.

    • Pendragonrise

Wake up, Alyssa. You’re living in an Obamanation! Duplicity, deception and subterfuge.

  • DavidL

Offense wins games. Defense wins championships.

In case you still believe that all this began since President Obama came into office, here is a little history for you. It was broadcast in 1965!

  • Alyssa

I don’t care who wins, Democrate or Republican, as long as they respect the rights of women over their own personal agendas. I am not living in Obamanation. I am living in the reality of what sexist policies do to me and my children in daily life.

  • Alyssa

In response to the person who said I wanted the government to nurture me, not true. I just want them to stay out of my life choices and assure the freedom for me to decide what is right for me as a woman and a citizen of the United States.

  • MassOutrage

VAWA has proven to be a tool to be used against genuine due process in family court, by incentivizing false allegations of abuse. It is used to get Orders of Protection/Restraining Orders when there is no abuse at all, to dump boyfriends, to get a first strike advantage in divorces, to get immigration status changed by claiming abuse, and to get custody of children without the messy hassle of actually showing evidence. The proof standards are low, and kids end up being harmed by being removed from fit parents without cause.

This law does not really protect women. We have laws against assault. Justice Dept. stats are clear that both men and women assault the other gender in about equal numbers, with slightly more women being abusive than men. (Women are injured more frequently.) It makes no sense to protect one gender, and give the clear message that bias is tolerated, and that equal protection is out the window.

Many families and children have been gravely harmed by the false allegations so easily generated under this law, and family Court practice has been very badly affected by VAWA, from my extensive experience as a family court lawyer. It ain’t all it is represented to be.

    • Karolyn

You are ovciously a man and do not work in the field. Possibly, you have been vicitimized by a woman. Believe me, women need all the help they can get. Abuse of women is FAR more rampant than that of men. In the time I have worked in the field, I have seen only two cases of a woman using her gender to “get over” on her partner. 99% of the cases of domestic and sexual assault we see are legitimate. One excellent feature of VAWA is that it allows for women not to have to go forward/talk to police after a rape. It is called Anonymous Reporting. All details, rape kit evidence are kept anonymously for one year, during which time the woman has time to receive counseling, further enabling her to go ahead with a case. This assists in putting more rapists behind bars. When women are sexually assaulted, they are victimized over and over when they decide to go ahead with a case. The stronger a woman is mentally, the better she is able to help put the perepetrator behind bars. The average man or woman on the street has no clue how huge the problem of crimes against women is, especially in the lower socio-economic areas. South Carolina is one of the hotspots in the country, with it being #7 in the country in women killed by men; #13 in rape and #1 in assault.

      • MassOutrage

Actually, I am a family court lawyer since 1993, so I have seen what I am talking about.

    • Karolyn

Sorry, I did not read your whole post before posting mine. I am sure all of your clients tell the whole truth, right? Do you only represent men? Of course, there will always be errors in court judgment; I’ve seen them; but for the most part, women need all the help they can get. It’s not only men who get screwed over by the system. Just this morning we had a case where a woman was raped, and the investigating officer told her she didn’t have to go to the hospital! How’s that for a fine, upstanding male cop! He prbably blew her case. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t one of the ones who goes home and abuses his partner; and I’ve heard of many such cases.
      Stats on DV:

      • MassOutrage

We have laws against rape, assault and threatening to commit a crime. This adds a POLITICAL agenda overlay, which harms families. Anyone who commits a crime is already going to be dealt with, apart from VAWA.

      • eddie47d

Men can be pychlogically battered by women so it doesn’t always show but few men are physically battered by women. The law of average is always against the women. When it comes to family court in giving custody of kids to men It seems like men always get the short end of the stick and the same with paying child support. Considering that worldwide violence against women is sometimes accepted I’d like to think we can do better when it comes to rape and abuse though.

  • RichE

The VAWA is nothing more than a thinly veiled means of promoting feminist ideology and this reauthorization extends this ideology to lesbians and illegal alien women.

    • Karolyn

You have no clue what you’re talking about.

      • MassOutrage

Whether he has a clue or not, I do have one. In my state, there is literally a cottage industry in training women to make false claims of abuse to get their immigration status adjusted. To do so, the woman has to marry some poor chump, then make false allegations of abuse, then get a restraining order. Works like a charm.

      • eddie47d

It sounds like lawyer Mass Outrage is taking the side of men and we thank you for that but I don’t believe that there is this massive conspiracy with women to destroy men as you seem to suggest. You come across as taking the rare exception and make it look like all women are gaming the system. We can’t make good public policies no matter who is rigging the system to favor one side over the other..

      • Karolyn

Well, then there’s a problem with investigative services in your state. That, and a lot of dumb men. What state is this?

      • Karolyn

PS – As I stated previously, you represent mostly men. You never answered the question as to whether your clients always tell the truth either. I see men lie consistently, even when a woman has physical evidence of abuse. Rapists especially love to lie by saying “She really wanted it.” I have also seen women arrested for abuse. I am quite aware that there are abusive and manipulative women. Unfortunately, most men are too macho to admit to being assaulted by a woman.

      • RichE

Spoken like a true halfcocked feminist with an air-head who lets her emotions voice before her brain completes.

Just what am I clueless about? Would it be extending the VAWA to lesbians and illegal alien women or the feminist dogma?

      • Karolyn

Rich – Clueless about what women go through. I have seen it throughout my life and even more so working in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. So you would have women from Mexico and other countries who are kidnapped and trafficked here go without any kind of help? What of women in other countries who are bought by American men and used as slaves? They don’t deserve assistance? I am not a “feminazi”, just a woman who cares.

  • DH

Republican strategists need to hold back some cards. No need to be playing all of your cards so early. Let the republican candidate be determined and then go after Obama, particularly as we get close to election, that is if he doesn’t call off the election.

By presidential edict he just put himself in charge of good, gas, everything in case of a national emergency. Not that we haven’t been through such over the years and nothing like this was ever needed. And we sure didn’t need this now. The guy is doing everything he can to take over every aspect of the economy and this joker is not one who anyone should trust with significant control over anything.

He can’t tell the truth about anything. He just continues to lie and lie. What is wrong with him?

  • jopa

Just think how happy the GOP would be if women didn’t have the right to vote.I believe the women may come out in force this year and show the GOP a few things about consequences for calling them names, taking away their rights and treating them like second class citizens.

    • RichE

Nah, it’ll never happen. Women are emotional, they’ll vote for Romney because he’s rich and good looking, Newt because he’s a bad boy . Why would any woman vote for Obama?

      • Karolyn

I guess you haven’t seen the polls.

        • RichE

          Polls no, giggle yes,
“Clueless about what women go through.” By clueless do you mean a personal knowledge?

      • Karolyn

Well, Rich, yes. I am a 65 year old woman and have suffered male mental abuse in my life. However, it is through my relationships with other women and my job that has shown me just how many suffer much worse.

        • MassOutrage

In my life, I’ve suffered abuse from men, from women, from adults, from children, from dogs, cats, fish, and birds. And I think and emu, too. Wah, wah, wah, I’m a victim forever and ever amen. The whole rest of my life must be defined by my victimhood. I can never get over it. Woe is me. Us victims need VAWA, and quick.

      • Libertytrain

Karolyn, everyone has a story – many about abuse….you aren’t special in that regard. I could tell you a good many stories and I won’t even consider voting for Obama in my lifetime. And whomever said women would vote via emotions is full of beans. Ron Paul is far more appealing cause he actually has a unique characteristic lacking in all the other candidates….brains.

      • Karolyn

MassOutrage – Big macho man! I was not looking for your sympathy and do not consider myself a victim. What a jaded man you are. I feel sorry for you and anyone who has you for a lawyer!

      • Karolyn

liberty – I never said I was anything special. If you were following my thread, you would see that I was making a point to a man who is clueless – the one who says that women will vote for the rich handsome one.

      • Libertytrain

Karolyn, many men are clueless….I don’t think there’s any way to reach them – :)

    • Libertytrain

I didn’t know bill maher and david letterman for just two of the dozen or so examples, were repubulicans. That women aren’t enraged by women being called these names by those folks is quite the conundrum. And that you accuse just the right and don’t take responsibility for your own actions jopa. I saw the comment you made about one woman in particular just this eve., right before it then got admonished with offensive attack and the despicable words you wrote removed. Some kind of real man you are …

  • Alyssa

That’s another insult to women, that we are not intelligent enough to vote for someone who respects our rights as women. And who said Romney was good looking? Not me! Newt is a self-aggrandized infantile character who throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get what he wants. I have voted Republican before, but not anyone in this bunch!!

    • RichE

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Even so, you’re just one woman, but I bet you vote for Mitt the Rich.

  • Deerinwater

Oh Heck! a Ben Crystal post!

    “baseless” ?

Void a good defense, ~baseless offensive attacks is all you are left with. Make something up, Obama is an alien and a shape shifter, the anti-Christ, he plans to destroying the world.

The GOP “is truly” afraid of the TEA PARTY and this will end up being their downfall.

When you can’t be the captain of your own boat, you’ve got a mutiny on your hands. I guess most GOP politicians will stay engaged , pretending to work as long as the paychecks keep coming.

I hate March! ~ March is the month of my birth, so I tend to pay attention this month more the usual. March always brings on great change in many traumatic ways. The wind blows, the weather is unpredictable. The bad news going all the way into April.

In 1835, the year Samuel Clemens, writer, reporter, and pub-
lisher was born, Halley’s Comet passed over. Twain vowed that
he would not die until he saw the famous comet again. Then,
just before Twain died, Halley’s Comet passed over. He died
    the next day–April 10th, 1910 at 6:30 p.m.

Halley’s Comet or Comet Halley is the best-known of the short-period comets, and is visible from Earth every 75 to 76 years. Halley is the only short-period comet that is clearly visible to the naked eye from Earth, and thus the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime. Other naked-eye comets may be brighter and more spectacular, but will appear only once in thousands of years

Actually my friend, the Tea Party is lying in wait. You never get the team up too early in the week for the “BIG” game on Sunday. Your “god” is self destructing before your very eyes.

Oh, and lest I forget. You are showing your desperation already.
