Obama’s Gay Rights Goals Face Burdens

October 19, 2009 by

Obama's gay rights goals face burdens As President Barack Obama directing pressure on Congress to expand gay rights by repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, members of the Democratic party indicated that the proposal may face opposition.

The law, which was signed by President Clinton in 1996, defines marriage as a type of union between a man and a woman and in practice, allows states not to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Clinton, since approving the Defense of Marriage Act 13 years ago, says he no longer opposes same-sex marriage.

Although Obama maintains a belief that marriage is between a man and a woman, the president has taken a stance in support of civil unions for same-sex couples, which extend many of the same rights as traditional marriage.

Reports from CNN Politics indicate that some Democrats do not share Obama’s enthusiasm for the law’s repeal. "We can move forward on a lot of measures, but I’m not sure there’s the support yet" for repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, said Senator Bob Casey, a Democrat from Pennsylvania.

Debbie Stabenow, a Democratic Senator from Michigan explained one impediment to the repeal nothing the "challenge" in representing one of the many U.S. states that has laws prohibiting same-sex marriage.

The president’s gay rights goals include ending the military’s "Don’t ask, don’t tell" policy, which proponents believe can be achieved by getting a buy-in from the military.

like everyone before him, Obama made promises to get elected. Advocated change – now once elected its a different story as usual…change only applies to some americans – there are no equal rights and protections for gay America…

    • David

He has his own party to deal with….some of them read the bible.

      • hyhybt

…which is doubly irrelevant: people on both sides read into the Bible what they want and expect to find there, and forcing others to abide by your understanding of the Bible goes against the 1st Amendment anyway.

        • eyeswideopen

          Excellent point.

      • Rod

David, arn’t you aware of the changes Thomas Jefferson made to the bible? A copy of that bible is still given to new Congressman and Senators when they come into office. I don’t think real Christians
would be happy with that “bible”.

        • libertytrain

Isn’t it referred to as the “Jeffersonian” Bible?

      • ggh

The bible also condones slavery? Do we allow that? No we don’t because that would be descriminatory…

    • RM

Gay America needs to leave America!

      • Scared Citizen

        Amen!

      • desertguy

What needs to leave America is hatred and you can lead the charge RM. This is my country as much as anybody else born here. Try living a life without fear. Seems you and many others continue to buy into the GOP agenda of keeping everyone fearful. Clinging to that bible is nothing more than a way to spread your hate. Google what is happening to children in South America because of the teachings of the bible.
They are being tortured and killed because they believe their children are witches. The missionaries that introduced this insane madness is based in California.

Every bible in the world should be burned!

        • Linda L Hill

If a person is gay, that’s ok, however, if society as a whole does not want to accept the gay agendas, then that is the right way. Society does not want to have explain to their children or anyone else, two women or two men kissing. The gay expression should be kept between themselves, just like any other intimate expression should be kept private. It should not be forced upon society by our government.

          • Angela Sherman

Guess what Linda I’m gonna kiss my girlfriend whether you allow us to marry or not. The difference between what they’ll see between my girlfriend and I and what you let them watch on MTV is love, commitment, and respect for one another. Stop blaming us for the moral decay of society which you straights started a longggg time ago. We’re not the ones who flocked to see “Deep Throat” when it was released into the theaters in the 70′s. When all you fanatics bring up sodomy and how it’s a sin you may want to remember that oral sex you gave or recieved last week. God didn’t intend for your hubbies swimmers to be trying to fertilize your tonsils!

    • American Citizen

Sodom and Gomorrah were historically real places and according to the OT, towns like San Francisco. They were destroyed by fire. Maybe that’s why San Fran has co many earthquakes.

      • DaveH

        Citizen,
I look at the Bible as a history book. I think the Sodom and Gomorrah episode was probably just one of many civilizations that over time lost all morality in their pursuit of pleasure. And their destruction may have been coincidentally by nature or I think more likely by each other or by an enemy force.
By itself the pursuit of pleasure is not wrong. But so often after the pursuer succumbs to the dangers of pleasure-seeking they seek relief for their mistakes from those who have lived the straight and narrow life. That’s when it becomes a problem. I think that is what is currently happening to our country.

        • shadow_man

Sodom and Gomorrah was not destroyed because of homosexuality. That is an inaccurate accessment.

The Sodom Story – Genesis 19:1-29
Homophobic Viewpoint: “Sodom was destroyed because of homosexuality.”
Scriptural Viewpoint: Sodom was a lush beautiful region of land whose inhabitants had known the goodness of God. Despite their exposure to, experience with, and witness of the one true loving Creator, the people of Sodom had rejected a relationship with God, and turned to numerous types of idolatry. When God’s messengers were sent to the city, the men of Sodom responded by threatening the ultimate act of violent abuse, murder, disrespect and humiliation. They were going to RAPE God’s representatives.

All other Old and New Testament references to Sodom involved the sins of idolatry, inhospitality, indifference toward the poor and the rejection of God’s messengers. There are NO REFERENCES to same sex acts or HOMOSEXUALITY. How you get homosexuality out of all that is simply laughable.

          • Dale, Oklahoma

While homosexuality was not the ONLY reason Sodom & Gomorrah
were destroyed, it IS one of the reasons. To deny the scriptural
references is either delusional or simply means that the only
“Bible” you’ve read is the politically correct version or the
Revised SUB-Standard Version. The word “homosexual” or “gay”
doesn’t appear in the Bible, but neither does the word pedophile,
gang rape, hate crime or scam artist. This doesn’t make any of
these types of people or activities acceptable does it???

You can be the…queen of denial all you want. Doesn’t change the
facts that the word “abomination” IS used in the Bible, which is
the only “act” described with THAT word in the Bible. And just as
nature abhors a vacuum. That’s what a world full of homosexuals
would be. Anything UN-natural is abhorrent to GOD AND nature.

This country does NOT need to go from an aberration,
            to an aberr-NATION!

        • DaveH

          Shadow,
Are you talking to me Liberal Word-Twister? If so, where in my statement did I use the word “homosexual”?

          • shadow_man

Name-calling! Already signs you lost the argument. Nice try though =)

          • DaveH

Is that the best you can do Liberal?

Let’s not forget the marriage is firstly a civil matter in America, as marriage liceneses are issued by and recorded in town halls, not church halls, or mosques or temples.

It’s time to end DOMA and DADT.

    • April

Why, with your JP experience, do you think it is time to end DOMA and DADT? Yes, marriage is a civil matter in America; but firstly it is a Godly institution between one man and one woman for the very purpose to make children and bring them into a already established orderly family unit; teaching their children to repeat the process. And although marriage licenses are indeed issued and recorded in town halls, pastors, priests, rabbis and ship captains are authorized to perform the marriage ceremonies too. And some churches do keep records.
It seems to me that the only reason one would want to do away with DOMA (Defence of Marriage Act) is so that gay couples could be recognized by the government or force other states to do the same. So far, I think DOMA is a good thing and we should NOT end it. As for DADT (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell) I would have left well enough alone, but it seems to be leaving an opening for corruptness. I am still looking at the pros and cons on that one.

      • eyeswideopen

April, just because we are Christians doesn’t mean everything relates back to God and Jesus. Marriage is a civil affair. It can be a religious ceremony, however it doesn’t have to be. Atheists get married all the time. We can’t bring every situation back to a religious interpretation. People all have basic rights, regardless of their faith, lack of faith, gender, color, race, or sexual preferences.

        • April

And that is your right to think how and say what you want. But now you and the rest of the radical lefties are working hard to push the majority into a corner and we have been quiet gentle persons long enough. You do not have the right to push your ideologies on me and now I am pushing back. I do not give a flip, a hoot, nor a hollar what you think is popular, I do and say what I believe is right. So you do say and think what you want, but you will not shut me up.

          • eyeswideopen

Quite and gentle, hold on while I bust a gut laughing. LMAO!!! What world are you living in? You are all so loud on this site, it is unbelievable. We have people threatening civil war and you call that gentle??? lol lol lol.

  • Barry

The Bible is clear that God created Adam and Eve and God said go procreate. The Bible also is clear that Homosexuality is a an abomination to God. It may not be to BO but it is to God.

Now I fear God more than being called a racist or a homophobe.

So judgement day comes for all and the question will be the same for everyone.

    • Ginny Wilson

HEY BARRY…GREAT GOING!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID. GOD WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS KIND OF ABUSE OF HIS WORD AND/OR HIS COMMANDMENTS. BHO WILL ANSWER TO THE GOD WHO CREATED HIM ONE DAY AND HE WILL FIND OUT TOO LATE THAT BHO IS NOT GOD LIKE HE BELIEVES HE IS.
NOT ONLY AM I UPSET BY EVERYTHING HE IS DOING BUT I PITY HIM!!!

      GINNY

      • RM

        Ginny,
No I do not pitty him in the least. He only wanted votes. Well the only CHANGE I have seen is this country going to a more socialist liberal government where obama and his croonies control every aspect of our lives. They have already started there anti-gun agenda to take more control and disarm the law abiding citizens of this country.
If he likes a socialist form of government I suggest he move to another country. I and many many of my friends will not surrender our guns to any liberal socialist government for any reason.

        • Greg

Ginny Your right, Obama wants Big Goverment control of our lives! High unemployment! And printing money nonstop! Obama has created 4 times the debt Bush had!!! We have a Media that is nothing more than an extension of the White House!!! OBAMACARE IS A FRAUD!!! Barack Hussein Obama Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm wants to be our Master and RULE OVER US!!! He HATES THE WHITE MAN!!! OBAMA IS A RACIST!!! HE IS TRYING DISMANTLE AMERICA AND OUR CONSTITUTION!! I DON’T OBEY BIG GOVERMENT! I’M NOT A FASCIST OR SOCIALIST AND I WILL ACCEPT ANYTHING BUT CAPITALISM!! PEOPLE CHANGE IS IN THE AIR!!! I FEEL THERE COULD BE A CIVAL WAR IN THIS COUNTRY SOON!!! BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA MMMM, MMMM, MMMM YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!!!!!!!

          • eyeswideopen

Greg, and the point of destroying the country would be? So he could rule over a bankrupt, weak, totally in chaos, country? What would be the point of that? You are a nut. He is the most powerful man in the world right now, why would he want to destroy that? Just tell me what the advantage of anarchy is ? You are watching too much Glenn.

        • American Citizen

Barack Obama is a liar and a hypocrite and you know what Jesus thought of them.

          • April

That’s right! And Jesus is the one I agree with.

          • eyeswideopen

American, interesting that when anyone threatens a civil war, you just ignore them.

      • Jerry Cobb

Ginnt, in all due respect too you, this piece of “CAMEL DUNG” deserves no pity from anybody. This is the muslim sharia law wanted and paid dearly to get into the White House. Ever wonder this “TRAITOR” of our Constitution refused matching campaign funds? It was a very tricky way for him to get the neccessary monies to totally buy every major media(who are traitors in their own right for selling out our Great Nation, for the allmighty dollars from the sharia muslims), with the exception of Fox, who is the only media to get the truth tothe american people.
And this push from hussein obama on gay rights is only his pay back for the promises tothem for their votes. Just the same as his push for amnisty for the “law-breaking criminals” from south of the border. After all that was a promise campaign he made to them in order to buy their vote. It is time to start impeachment procedings against him, nazi peloisi, rangel, clinton, reid, joe bin-biden &the rest of his “ANTI-AMERICAN” cronies.
        Pity,NO-Expulsion,YES.

        • RM

          Mr Cobb,
I salute you. I could not have said it better. The ones you named are just what you described and I do not care for any (WORD REMOVED FOR OFFENSIVE CONTENT) supporting, anti-gun, UnAmerican socialist liberal politicians. pelosi should be scared, the people have have had enough of the BS. What is she so afraid of? Because people are speaking there mind at the town hall mettings, and not buying the (WORD REMOVED FOR OFFENSIVE CONTENT) that obama is trying to stuff down are throats. I say if she does not like the fire then do not play with matches.

        • Kevin

Do not forget Barry Soetoro is not a US Born Citizen Either!

He Also Confessed he was a Christian too!but also showed his true beliefs as a born Muslim, and appeaser to the world of Americas bullyism! and that is the down fall of BHO BS lie lie lie.

By the way you forgot the ML Whore House Harry Reid too ! I live in NV and he is on his way out!

The more we tolerate the more chance to witness to the unsaved that homosexuality will not be acceptable in the God of Abraham’s Heaven!

If BHO is an Muslim then he should practice what he speeches Islam does not tolerate homosexuals period they cut there heads off!

I do not want open displays off sexual deviancy in my America.

          • Palin12

Right on! I live in NV too and will help vote Reid out. BTW, Harry will be 70 this December, would be 71 upon reelection, and 77 when his next term is up. I hope Sue Lowden will be our next senator.

    • RM

I agree 100%. God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Why do you think he destroyed Sodom&Gamorah because there were having a picknic. You people want gay marriage move to (WORD REMOVED FOR OFFENSIVE CONTENT) especially San Fransisco.

    • Palin12

We may have to change the term abomination to Obamination!

    • billy

BARRY if you think adam and eve actually existed then you probably also own a piece of the brooklyn bridge.

      • Debbie

Perhaps you are unaware of the lineage and genealogy of Jesus Christ as set forth in the Old Testament…umbilical cord to umbilical cord from Eve on through to Jesus Christ. No, thank you, no bridge for me.

        • Angela Sherman

So since Eve came from Adams rib that means Eve was made of the exact DNA of Adam hence we are all a product of incest. (Words removed for offensive content)

  • http://admin@manandwomanbalance.com Chris Anderson

Marriage is firstly a spiritual matter–the two shall become as one. Only a man and a woman (opposites) can become as one. Such is the process of union–from which a new birth (procreation) can emerge. The hidden)agenda of the “gay rights” movement is to separate sex from procreation. What out.

    • Angela Sherman

So since the first relationship in the BIBLE was incestual and many more after that actually. We should legalize incest and also include them in the religious right to marry! Awesome! The morals your Bible teaches your son’s and daughters are great! (words removed for offensive content)!

  • Dee

It is up to the ‘States’ to decide whether gay marriages should be allowed in their state. I live in CA .. so far, we’ve had these ‘measures’ on our ballots twice. Each time, the citizens have voted ‘NO’ …to keep marriage only between an ‘man & woman’… they’ve taken this to the Courts again & again.. I understand another Proposition could possibly be on the Nov. 2010 ballot again.. California has many many ‘benefits’ for Gay & Lesbian couples, and it gives them every benefit that married people have.. “Civil Unions” are allowed, with full tax benefits as well.. I think that the President needs to ‘stop’ encouraging & promoting his ‘agenda’, and leave it up to the States, as some have already done, for their Citizens decide for themselves .. not the President!!

    • Mark

Actually, denial of the right to marriage for the homosexuals is a civil rights issue in this case, as we are not living in a theocracy. The bills that have been enacted to keep them from marrying fall under the category “tyranny of the masses”. The Constitution already has protections from this and upon re-review, these bills will be ruled unconstitutional. Give it time.

  • George

Didn’t Joe Biden state during the vice-presidential debate when the question was asked about gay marriage that he and President Obama were against gay marriage. Or was this just another lie.

  • Robin from Indiana

BHO said whatever it would take to sway votes for his campaign. It’s such a shame that people are so gullible and really thought he was the ‘messiah’. There is so much corruption in both parties that it would take a miracle to sort through it all and oust out the guilty ones. Our great nation has really fallen from what it once was.

The only thing we can do is pray, pray, pray that God will intervene on our behalf and that we will see a shift in government and only those with proven track records of morals and ethics will be running the country once again!

    • April

I agree Robin. We the People have to keep speaking out over and over and over and never shut up and never stop praying. We need to let the People know that they are not alone and build America back up with dignity. And not allow those who agree with corrupt policy and ideolgy to bring us down.

  • James Corbin

Homosexuality is a sickness! Babies are born with cancer and other diseases. People cannot practice this if they expect to go to heaven—–Because this act is a sin in the sight of God.

I think homosexuality is forbidden by the muslim religion!!!!

    • David

Not to mention if they are allowed to adopt. What’s a child to think growing up around two homosexuals. Will the child end up gay by association?

      • Rod

David, What do you mean – If? They are already able to adopt a child!

        • April

I took David to mean that we need to take another look at adoption in this type of environment and reconsider the best interest of the child. And that it may be assumed that the child is gay due to association, when that may not be the case at all.

          • eyeswideopen

liberty, that wasn’t meant to be mean, I was asking a question. It appears that he must not be out in the world very much, which would explain him not understanding that you can’t catch gay. It was going to define my next response to him. If he was being real and is that isolated, my recommendations would be different, than if he was being facetious, I wouldn’t waste my time recommending reading/internet material. Interesting that you automatically assumed that I meant something horrible.

          • libertytrain

eyes: That’s the way it came across – sarcastic – and unless that is your normal style in talking with people – you know exactly what I mean. Words may be the ‘source of much misunderstanding’ but …

          • eyeswideopen

No, Liberty, I was just tired, this takes alot out of you, I am also human, and don’t always go into a huge question and answer session. I should have probably said: I think from your statement that you are not exposed to many different ideas. Do you get much exposure to other points of view? Hell, it doesn’t sound any better than what I asked. Sorry, sometimes keep it simple doesn’t work with everyone.

  • Warren Gardner

For years people have protested against civil government legislating morality, especially in areas related to sexuality. The fact is that all civil laws do legislate a morality, and there seems to be universal acceptance for civil laws prohibiting stealing. The real question is do we want to have a morality that is legislated by God or do we want to have morality that is legislated by men. Supposedly in the United States the rule of law is the will of the people expressed through the democratic process. At present, however, we do not even have law based on the will of the people. A majority of the people have been opposed to same sex marriage and homosexual practice, but the minority who favor these practices are attempting to use the resources of the government to force the majority to submit to their morality. Man’s laws are fickle and changing. Our country would be far better off with civil legislation that follows God’s laws.

    • Mark

The “majority rule” is often described as a characteristic feature of democracy, but without responsible government or constitutional protections of individual liberties from democratic power it is possible for dissenting individuals to be oppressed by the “tyranny of the majority”.

Yes, it’s true: This speaks of the country you cohabitate. It’s not yours alone. On reviewing your ‘his – story’, your christian religions all stem from a murderous group. Seems the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree.

    • April

      Warren Gardner
The Laws were started by God. And there is a reason they have lasted through out all time. The majority wants to keep them. And then there is that 10% who wants to pervert what God made good. They think they have found their loop hole by infiltrating the system and try to use the law against the majority “WE the People”.

  • Disgusted

How is it that these groups, which actually consitute less than 1% of the population, have such influence on our government? Is it a case of the squeeky wheel getting the grease? If so, those of us who believe in GOD and his laws should stand up and make as much noise as possible. A woman and a man were created by GOD to perfectly fit together and procreate. Men with Men and Women with Women is an abomination.

    • RM

I agree a 100%. (WORDS REMOVED FOR OFFENSIVE CONTENT)This country was founded on Christian believes not islam or any other form of religion.
I’m really tired of being nice and watching or rights being taken away by less than 1% of the population. I have also heard enough of his Revamping Health Care. It is more like shoving it down our throats and saying you like it don’t you. No I Do Not.

    • TxforUSA

I agree with you. 1% of the population CAN make a change when the other 99% keep quite. That 99% (you and me) are finally waking up to the fact that we need to be involved and fight some of these radical ideas. There is a book called “The Marketing of Evil”, by David Kupelian. It is worth your time to read it. In the meantime, let’s write our elected officials freqauently and let them know our positions.

      • JeffH

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” (Edmund Burke).

      • eyeswideopen

What one percent are you referring too? If you are speaking about the Dem’s they are a larger percentage than 1%. One percent of the population does hold 95 percent of the wealth, is that what you are talking about? Every body likes to say 99 % of the wealth, however I saw couple of days ago, that real estate holdings amoung the remaining class of less wealthy is around 5 %. Hoorah for us.

        • eyeswideopen

I really know what one percent you are speaking of, It just made me want to make you say the word. It doesn’t matter how small their numbers are. They have rights equal to yours and mine. No one tells you that it is gross or against the law if your wife gives you sex other than intercourse, or if you swing from the ceiling during sex. If you have sex in the bathtub, backyard, car, or if you use toys or creams. To some people that is an abomination. God gives us trials and expects us to the obey the Ten Commandants, but not try and create a new one. If you notice the issue of homosexuality was not addressed in those ten. God wants us to bring unto him, those who have heard the word, he doesn’t say but I want you to judge them and fix their sin’s first.

Then let’s get SQUEAKIN’. I invite ALL GREAT AMERICANS TO Squeak in harmony with me. “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.” Let’s not allow O and his cronies to take our Nation.

And for all you who choose to defend O and his evil cronies, Go right on ahead, give it all you got and squeak your loudest. The majority out number you and will eventually drown you out.

      • JeffH

I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States of America…

  • Deanna

I thought BO was not going to give into special interest groups. Ever since they came out of the closet they have done nothing but cause the moral decay of our youth. Showing them that this behavior is okay which in God’s eyes it is not okay. They have also hurt the idea & sanctity of what a marriage should represent between two people(man & woman only).

  • Russell EnDean

Although it would be a rare exception for Obama to keep a promise, and one I would prefer, we have many greater issues facing our country which effect 100% of the population. There is not a lot of time left before we impeach and deport this non-citizen Muslim fraudulent charlatan, and some his colleagues. so he had better hurry up.

  • riaz masih

dear beloved great american please for sake of God condemn Guy law

  • Jim T

A cursory study of law suits brought by gays due to alleged discrimination shows they have protections enough and rights far beyond “fair” in our country. In the liberal states like Mass. or Cali children are forced to learn that the gay lifestyle is acceptable regardless of the health problems associated with it. We need the Defense of Marriage Act to protect the one area retaining some protection.

  • JeffH

Obama is confused once again. I believe in “don’t ask, don’t tell”.
His appointment of the “school czar” Jennings prety much define where he stands, to educate children about homosexuality. If someone is a homosexual, they know it and don’t need the governments encouragement to decide. I don’t support gay marriage, Californians don’t support gay marriage as shown by the Prop 8 vote, and as usual, California legislators feel they know better than the majority and are doing everything they can to overturn that vote.
The U.S. House Speaker, California Representative (8th District), Nancy Pelosi along with twenty other members of the 53 member California congressional delegation and both of California’s U.S. senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, voiced their opposition to Proposition 8

  • Isabella

Does marriage have a definition or not? You can call a doorknob a weedwhacker but it will never cut your grass for you.

This Administration is doing it’s darndest to destroy the US from within. We have clearly seen that in the last nine months. If we do not stop it now by saying No to Repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, this take over of our Health Care by Big Government and NO to an Amnesty that will surely destroy our country then we are lost. The American people are now aware of what is happening and starting to speak out so Spread the Word and let’s stop this madness. We must make Obama and his minions do the Will of The American People. Say NO to Any Hate Crimes Bills!!!

  • Jack Kinch(1uncle)

Demo is a party of ‘special interest groups’. It takes a lot of lies and our taxes to keep them all in line. Sometimes it isn’t easy. Gays should stay in the closet to not disgust all the rest of us. Should not be a ‘special interest group’ in politics.
States should pass an amendment stopping the federal congress from giving benefits to ‘special interest groups’.

    • Angela Sherman

We’ll never be in the closet and it’s just a matter of time before we get our rights. I pay taxes too in this country. If you want to make me a second class citezen then don’t force me to pay for the social security your going to collect and the medicare your old azz needs. IT WILL NEVER GO AWAY. Is Barock Abomonation wiser than God? If he destroyed Sodom and Gamora
Will Barock be this countrys demise. Yes I think so
He is a very imoral man

  • Johnny Valentine

In a nut shell: This Obama monstrosity has me entirely bugged. He walks around, running off with the mouth about things he knows little or nothing about, while the college idiots, nearly all television news networks, nearly all newspapers, and nearly all of today’s Hollywood crowd, worship at this guys feet. Look, this guy is an imposter. He’s not our “President”, because Kenyan born people don’t qualify for job and he and all the other blood suckers in Washington know it. We are being “played” and right now, they seem to be getting away with it and they think it’s funny. Obama and company are busy rippin’ apart our way of life and whether people like the comparison or not, Adolf H., also a Socialist, applied the same bullying methods in achieving his goals.
If “gay’s” (true definition meaning “happy”, something that most “gays” are not)want to play footsie behind closed doors or whatever, fine, but they should not be allowed to screw up the meaning of “marriage” and they SHOULD NOT be allowed to tamper with the teaching of OUR CHILDREN!! Obama, if you like Jennings, then let him be the “Safe-School-Czar” for your own children, but keep this twisted freak away from OUR CHILDREN!! Obama, you are NOT our President, you DO NOT control OUR lives, we didn’t “GO FORTH AND PROCREATE” so that you and your freaks can suddenly steal them from us, you have absolutely NO ability to fix OUR country (if OUR FOUNDING FATHER’S didn’t think of it already, you sure won’t!), WE KNOW that you are “attempting” to destroy OUR country(not your’s, Kenyan), and remember, when you are thrown out on your Kenyan butt, we will reverse everything that you’ve done here!! Smile now, funny boy.

  • Sonny

I personally feel that Obama is doing everything possible to destroy our country. Gay rights, healthcare, cap and trade, bowing to king of Saudi Arabia, apologizing for America and his tratment of Israel. My feelings about where his allegiance lies is he’s a socialist and a narricist. We as Christians should stand up and be heard, the last time we didn’t we lost Prayer in school because of one person.

    • Mark

If you want prayer in school so badly, why not send your children to a private school, or if you’re too poor, do home schooling?

Separation of church and state has been part of the Constitution long before you were born.

      • Andrew

        Mark,

Like BHO, the kenyan imposter, you advertise {& thus astonish us with your} ignorance. Separation of Chuch & state is most definitely NOT found anywhere in our Constitution. In fact, references are found to the Almighty in the Declaration of Independence & in speeches made by the Founding Fathers of our republic in regards to the dire necessity to remain Christ-centered or else we’d most assuredly suffer the same fate as Sodom & Gomorah. The term separation of Church & state was initially found in a letter of correspondence from Jefferson to a pastor in Danbury, Connecticut who feared that one Christian denomination would prevail over all the rest of the then existent Christian denominations; Jefferson merely tried to assure the pastor that this could not be possible since no Christian denomination could have prevalence over others. The Suprerme Court, the Congress, along with other governmental entities have their sessions begun with readings from the Bible. The President takes the oath of office from the Bible {since the days of Washington}. Countless articles have been published by Jefferson, Madison, and others {& speeches given by our first President, by Linclon among others} concerning the dangers America would fall into in the event Americans & their government ever separated themselves from God. No!! You are most definitely wrong. There is no Separation of Church & state.

        • Mark

          Heh.

          Spoken not unlike your Führer.

        • Mark

“…The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .” The modern concept often credited to the writings of English philosopher John Locke, the phrase “separation of church and state” is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court, though the Court has not always fully embraced the principle.”

        • eyeswideopen

Andrew, you don’t know why we don’t have a national religion do you? heh heh, maybe you should research why. lol

  • TucsonLady

Here in Arizona we already have Civil Unions yet we had to vote for Marriage between one man and one woman. Gays don’t just want civil unions…. they are not satisfied with that. They want to be married. I think they are out to destroy anything that looks religious by making themselves above all that. I thought most states still have laws on the books about sodomy, etc.. I think if the government wants all this health care, gay rights, then they too must part-take. How would Obama like his kids marrying into their same gender? Hmmm… maybe it would be a different story. Oh wait… Aren’t they going to a private school where they is most likely not taught that it’s ok. Aren’t they exempt from this health care nonsense?

    • Mark

The last few remaining sodomy laws were invalidated in 2003 by the U.S. Supreme Court decision Lawrence v. Texas. Sorry, I know too well that ignorance can be bliss, but perhaps it’s time to wake up.

Religion doesn’t have a patent on the WORD “marriage”. Marriage of flavor, marriage of scent, marriage or people, etc.

The HONEST summary of what many of the opposition is simply “we hate homo’s” and “we don’t want homo’s to have equal rights”. So let’s dispense with the phony “save marriage” balogna already!

      • JeffH

Mark, I was born and raised in the Bay Area across from SF. I have worked with and have been aquainted with gays. I might not approve of their sexual orientation, but I do realize that they are humans and the gay men and women I have met and known haven’t tried to sway my beliefs in that regard. Most times, if I hadn’t know they were gay already, I still wouldn’t know it. I voted for prop 8, but what goes on behind closed doors is not my business or anyone elses. I don’t believe in gay marriage nor do I believe that benefiets should be the same. Keep it out of the classroom, as someone that is gay will know it soon enough.

        • JeffH

Once again it is government forcing their will onto the people. Let the people decide. Think about what is transpiring in this discussion. I have seen more direct hate talk here than in any other blog. Usually, it is the liberal left that talks that way, but today, it is the conservatives turn I guess. I am not gay, but I agree that those people that are gay didn’t have a say in their sexual orientation either. Don’t hate and don’t be homophobic. This is America and we all have the right to make our own choices, still!

        • DaveH

I’m proud of you Jeff for keeping an open-mind even when raised in that environment. The newspapers in the San Francisco area are incredibly biased to the left. I wouldn’t blame anybody who was raised in that area for being liberal, but it’s nice to see that some of you break free.

          • JeffH

I was raised with conservative values and having been raised in the Bay Area there wasn’t racism and eventually later in life I worked with and associated, at times, with some people that were homosexual. Nice people that never attempted to force their lifestyle choices on to me. I learned to respect them although I didn’t agree. Live and let live I guess. I didn’t care for the politics, and have had bitter feelings for the likes of Boxer, Pelosi, and the queen witch herself, former mayor of San Francisco, Diane Feinstein. I don’t like their politics and certainly don’t like their influence in California or this great country. California is a screwed up state and they are very responsible for a great deal of Californias economic problems. I am sure that I will be leaving Ca witin a few years, but it won’t have been the gays that have influenced my decision to go.

        • Mark

That’s the whole problem. The issue should never have been floated to the public for a vote. This is a civil rights issue.

          • JeffH

Mark, whether we agree or disagree, you are correct. This is clearly a civil rights issue, regardless of it’s morality.

          • eyeswideopen

Mark, the problem is that some groups don’t want others to have the same civil rights that they enjoy. You would have thought that by 2009 we would have finally accepted that everyone has the same rights and religious beliefs don’t trump rights.

  • American Citizen

I really wish people would LISTEN to what Obama says and “read between his lies”. Unfortunately for this country, far too many people have a comprehension problem and an inability to foresee the future. I think God is telling us something and we’d all better wake up and “smell the coffee.” Otherwise, this country will go the way of all other civilizations that ignored God’s laws.

    • Mark

To which god do you refer?

  • American Citizen

It’s time we forced all those in Congress to have to live by the laws they have passed on the rest of us. 2010, hurry up.

  • Nancy

Hmmmm You people hava said everything I wanted to say also.
I think we should impeach BHO before any more Nazi or Communist
and Homo criminal laws destroy the Church.
We the People of the USA don’t want you and YOUR style of the
    60′s hippie John Lennon music.

    • Mark

Then live your own life, and stop trying to impose your belief system on others. Take care of yourself, love yourself and yours, but treat others with respect and dignity. Why all the hate? Is that part of your religion too?

      • Greg

People settled in the United States because they wanted religious freedom! Thats why this Country is here! HEY!!! PEOPLE CAN PRAY ANY DAMMED PLACE THEY WANT!!! YOU DON’T LIKE IT, PISS OFF!! THIS IS A CHRISTION COUNTRY!!! IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN!!!

        • eyeswideopen

Greg, sorry to inform you, but our founding fathers set this country up to not have a national religion and like it or not a large number were atheists. This country was founded under God, but not Christ. It wasn’t until 1956, that Congress passed the act to have IN GOD WE TRUST put on our money officially. Dude you need some knowledge, the internet makes it easy, just do the work. This country was not founded under Jesus Christ.

          • DaveH

Maybe you need to look harder. From the first amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
What part of that last phrase do you not understand?

          • American Citizen

For those of the Jewish faith, Christians are also Jews as they follow the teachings of a Jew. Jesus did not do away with the OT, he fulfilled it. We need the whole library of books (the Bible) to understand how God wants us to live. Any Christian who puts down anyone of the jewish faith is putting down jesus. He never renounced his Jewish faith.

        • eyeswideopen

Exactly, they didn’t want you or anyone else telling them what to believe, so why do you want to force people to believe what you want them too?

          • ccg

Who is forcing? No one can force anyone to do or believe what they don’t want ot. Including you eyes, you can’t force your opinion on everyone else no matter how hard you try, or how sarcastic in how you do it.

You know the people in Washington are not going to live by the laws
they have imposed on to us! You are right American citizen! 2010

It’s WE THE PEOPLE not them the CRIMINALS! We can and will bring
    democracy back to this country!

  • Rod

Nancy, Hitler failed and so will Obama and his crowd! He, (OBAMA)
and his BOSSES are confused! We will never ever give them what they want- – TYRANNY!

  • DaveH

What I want to know is where in the Constitution did the Federal government get the power to do all the things they are doing? Unbelievable.
I also can’t figure why anyone would want to engage in the legal morass of marriage when they can’t even have children.
And why would they want to reveal themselves to their fellow soldiers? Has anyone heard of ‘fragging’?
I think this is all about full employment for lawyers and Big Government employees. The more laws they pass the bigger Government gets.
I sincerely hope that all who understand the benefits of limited government will put their differences aside and get together in a cohesive group to vote these destroyers of our nation out of office.

    • Mark

Actually, this is about defending our Constitution, equal rights and separation of church and state. Stop watching tv (fox news, most likely) and read!

      • Greg

I’m sure you watch MSNBC, NBC, and CNN!!! I’M SURE YOU WATCH THE STATE RUN MEDIA, IT’S NOTHING BUT AN EXTENSION OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!! AND THE WHITE HOUSE IS BEING RUN BY FASCISTS!!! MARK YOU MUST BE A BIG GOVERMENT KOOLAID DRINKING NAZI!!! GOD HATING ANTICHRISTIAN!!!

      • DaveH

        Mark,
Equal rights are not gained by law. If a law is passed to favor a class of people, then they become more-than-equal.
And show me where in the Constitution does it say “separation of church and state”?
And what part of my statement has anything to do with Foxnews?
I read the Congressional sites which give the actual Bills passed and who voted for them. I don’t need Foxnews for that. The Democrat politicians are spending us into oblivion.
And you know what? It is well known that violence increases when the economy decreases. How do you think the gays will do when society is in violent turmoil? As the saying goes “Watch out what you wish for; it might come true”.

        • eyeswideopen

Daveh, nope the crime has decrease with the latest decline of our economy. All those gun fact finding missions, lead me to see those stats. Sorry, you are wrong. Crime is going down.

          • DaveH

Eyes, you would argue with me if I said the sky was blue. It’s way to early to make any statements on the crime increase that will be induced by the current bad economy, and we haven’t seen anything yet.
            http://www.gallup.com/poll/123644/Americans-Perceive-Increased-Crime.aspx

          • eyeswideopen

Sorry, Dave, I was surprised that the crime rate has gone down. Was only passing on info, not trying to say sky is pink.

        • Mark

Clearly, you either skipped reading the First Amendment, are reading your own desires into it, following what someone else has told you or are otherwise-abled in your comprehension abilities.

I mentioned fox “news” because you sound just like them. I gave up watching news in my early teen years, when I realized it was mainly bologna. But you can’t help hearing about them/theirs.

In one of your entries, I noticed you think that the current administration is trying to stifle conservative news/press. That’s funny, because it’s the same thing I heard all those liberals saying during the previous administration. Personally, I haven’t noticed any effect, good or bad, on freedoms of the press. They’re all mainly garbage these days. All I hear/see is a lot of bickering about silly things that have little to do with REAL issues.

          • ccg

            Mark

Then I guess you haven’t heard that the White House has declared WAR on one of our News Networks “because they don’t like me”.
They are even stating that the rest of the news networks should NOT follow in the same format as Fox News Network.

Excuse me, where is the Freedom of Speech? This is definitely not a “silly thing that has little to do with REAL issues.”

When the President and his staff declare war on any news network this is not a good sign.

I was watching CNBC and on one of their programs they were sure giving their views on certain subjects, and putting down anyone that disagreed with those views, and even mocking those that did not agree. I have no problem with this as it is their right to give their opinion. I even listened and learned a few things. However, the only one that is conservative, they are bashing and trying to take down.

I will also remind you that there are several on the Fox News Network that are Democrats too. I listen to them. Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don’t, but its not right for the Presidnet to declare war on any news organization. He is taking his position way further than it should go.

          • eyeswideopen

Mark, you are right on target, he likes Glenn Beck. Heh heh. I know, where is Buckley when you need him?

  • Mark

Separation of church and state. Period. Freedom OF religion connotes freedom FROM religion as well. Not everyone needs superstition or ‘his – story’ from a Bible or a Qur’an to make moral decisions. This isn’t a theocracy we live in. Stop trying to impose your religion on everyone else.

    • Rod

OK! Mark Darlin. No Sweat! You can keep satan! I’ll take Jesus Christ!!!!!!

    • JeffH

What is most important is that we all maintain our freedom. I am for freedom of all Americans, gay or staight.

      • eyeswideopen

        HANDS CLAPPING, REPEAT,,,,, HANDS CLAPPING.

    • DaveH

And stop trying to impose your religion (Liberalism) on everyone else.
I haven’t seen any evidence in the last 4 or 5 decades of any laws being passed by religious people to suppress Liberals, but I have seen plenty of laws passed by Liberals to force their way on the rest of the population through Big Government.

      • JeffH

        So true!

      • eyeswideopen

You mean like the Patriot Act?

        • DaveH

Yes, like the Patriot Act which only 1 Democrat Senator voted against.
Eyes, anybody who reads your posts regularly knows that you will go to any lengths to try and make conservatives look bad, including double-speak.

          • ccg

I am sure eyes looks in the mirror and has arguments. She likes to argue, even if you would agree with her she would find a way to turn it around. That is just her. I think anyone reading her posts realizes that.

          • JeffH

            like stale bread…

          • eyeswideopen

Dave, surely you watched as they tried to stop Teri Shavio’s husband from enacting his rights? Oh, they tried alright, lucky the Supreme Court happened to be awake that day. Ban on stem cell research? Trying to repeal abortion laws? Banning the sale of alcohol on Sundays? Dave the religious right in this country is alive and fighting as we speak to force their beliefs on someone. Key word force. Maybe you should hop back over to your platform beliefs of freedom for everybody, rights for everybody and nobody has to believe in God or have a religion. That is kinda what the liberals preach also, funny how similiar they are.

          • libertytrain

Eyes – Just a comment – I would have been in favor of Teri Shavio’s husband’s rights if he hadn’t had a whole other life going on with live-in girlfriend/and 2 children together – that he really wanted to proceed with and make a “legal marriage.” It kind of negated the possibility of warm wooly feelings for him.

          • American Citizen

Liberty, you’re right, he wanted her dead for selfish reasons. If he truly loved her and had her best interest at heart, he’d have divorced her and let her parents care for her. She never told anybody she wanted to die. It was only his word. She was actually tortured to death as starvation is a horrible way to die. She was not totally a vegetable as she tried to talk.

          • JeffH

libertytrain, you obviously have looked at the facts, not the portrait.

          • eyeswideopen

Liberty, it doesn’t matter. He was her husband and none of us knew what they had discussed prior to her accident. My first husband, wanted me to make the choice on weither he lived or died and I was married to another man. Point was he was legally her spouse and had the legal right to decide when to pull the plug. Maybe she told him that she never wanted to live like that. We don’t know. I have promised my husband that I won’t let him linger like that, however I know it will be a big fight with his family. The laws protect us and give us the ability to carry out a family members wishes.

          • libertytrain

Eyes – I don’t know how that works – ethically – he lived with the other woman as man-and-wife while still being married to the poor girl in a coma – Of course she probably didn’t know what her “husband” was doing with his, I guess “new” basically, common-law-wife, I’m confused by how he had any rights since he wasn’t particularly fulfilling the role of lawful husband – he could of divorced her while he was shacking up all those years and producing children with the common-law-wife type – sorry – he lost his rights as far as logic is concerned in this example of a “husband.”
I have no problem with our promises to our spouses – I wouldn’t want to linger – I don’t know if she wanted to linger – no one honestly does, except what her unfaithful, living-a-separate-life-with-another-woman-and-the-children-they produced-while still married to his comatose wife – said – I don’t think I could give any credibility to his word over her parents in this case. The laws didn’t necessarily protect this woman -

          • eyeswideopen

Liberty, it doesn’t matter what he was doing, he was never legally divorced. I didn’t like it either, but we can’t force our ethics on others. You are right, we really don’t know what their agreement was prior to her accident. Some people have deals involving how many years to let them remain in a coma, etc. It would have been easier for him to just divorce her, he did wait many years to see if she improved, and got many specialists involved. My husband tells me, that if something like that happened to him, he would want me to find someone else and live life to the fullest. My main point is we are a nation of laws, and the law gave him the right to make the decision and our Congress got involved and tried to circumvent the laws and have their own religious beliefs over ride the law. We cannot pick and choose which laws we like and which ones fit into our religious platforms. That is not what this country is all about.

          • libertytrain

You are correct. None of us knows what happened in this case and judges make their decisions based on who knows what- supposed to be unbiased opinions/interpretations based on the Constitution (State or Federal)- at least for the Supremes. However, the whole point of our Country is that our freedom: Freedom to disagree, freedom to change laws; and a basic understanding that laws are not always going to protect our basic freedoms is kind of our right -
I don’t agree with your opinion about ethics – I’ve gotten the feeling though out my life that laws were pretty much based on an idea of what is ethical – some were silly – based on someone’s opinion of the moment – some were useful – but not all were done well. I don’t know the laws of that area – I don’t know, if living with a woman and having children with her while”lawfully” married to another was considered “lawful” in the eyes of what was it, Florida? Doesn’t matter – poor girl’s dead – whether she wanted it or not based on her “lawful” husband’s words.

          • eyeswideopen

Dave, I don’t have to do anything, their actions do all the speaking, I just make corrections when they misquote or mis-state a fact. I am kinda like their conscience, making a little noise when they go way off track.

      • Mark

I can’t resist replying. This silliness is too easy to get sucked into.

I’m not a liberal and this has nothing to do with my religious affiliation. I simply believe that these gays deserve equal rights under our Constitution, and that the Constitution ALREADY grants the rights to be ‘out’ whether in the military or not, to marry, have kids… they have as much right to life and the pursuit of happiness as any other American.

Reading between the lines of your posts, I would surmise that you are of white descent, carry some sort of Christian beliefs and are heavily burdened with fear. Re-visit the New Testament. There’s no need for fear, anger, hatred. WWJD?

      • ccg

His religion is Atheism, which is his right, as well s it is our right to believe in the One True God.

  • Rod

Your right David! Obama and his crowd have broken just about every Fed. and Constitutional law there is. but, who is up there watching
over us? Who is making sure they don’t infringe upon our rights??

You already have your protection of religion from the Constitution. We also have protection from the oppression of your religion.

It’s time to celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, various religious beliefs and the full spectrum of human skin color. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively.

Unfortunately, zealotry is obviously rampant in our country right now.

        • shadow_man

Don’t be mad because he’s telling the truth. You will only be able to hide behind religion (using it in a poor way i might add) for so long. As we push forward, ignorance on the subject of homosexuality and gay marriage will be eliminated, like racism was eliminated. Majority of the younger generations support gay marriage. The question is, will you hop on the progressive bus, or be left behind like the racists?

          • DaveH

            Mark, Shadow,
There is a difference between tolerating gays and having them forced upon people through Big Government. I don’t agree with gay persecution but I also don’t agree with their life-styles being pushed upon people’s children against their will in the public schools. And I don’t think it is right to bestow more than equality to gays through the force of government. Your kind has no problem trying to take down religious symbols when they appear in public places, but at the same time you want to flaunt your lifestyles in the faces of religious people in public places. If you want respect, then give respect.

          • Dale, Oklahoma

shadow_man says: “like racism was eliminated.”

My poor, poor “shadow_man”. This is only ONE of your statements
that PROVES your delusional ignorance. If only it were true that
racism was a thing of the past, that would be great. But sadly,
as a Louisiana Justice of the Peace just proved, racism is STILL
with us. If you think it’s gone, you’d be sadly wrong.
Racism IS wrong because it’s based on an irrational anger or
hatred towards an entire groups of people based on the race they
were BORN INTO and CAN NOT CHANGE. Unlike homosexuality ( which you
CAN CHANGE if you REALLY WANTED TO ), because you are NOT born that
way. To make that ass-u-mption, when the science STILL has NOT made
that conclusion, further proves your delusional ignorance.
I’ll pray that someday you will see the light.

Dave, pushed on them in the schools? What are they having sex, there in the room? Come on. SO, I have a question for you Dave, how in the Libertarian world would the gays have equal rights that are promoted on your Libertarian Platform? You think just telling everybody that they are equal would work? You see how it’s working now don’t you? Really, how would you ensure that the gays had equal treatment and rights under the Libertarian government?.

          • eyeswideopen

            Daveh,
This is from your party platform dated May,2008.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION, PREFERENCE, GENDER, OR GENDER IDENTITY SHOULD HAVE NO IMPACT ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIVIDUAL GOVERNMENT, SUCH AS IN CURRENT MARRIAGE, CHILD CUSTODY, ADOPTION, IMMIGRATION, OR MILITARY SERVICE LAWS.
CONSENTING ADULTS SHOULD BE FREE TO CHOOSE THEIR OWN SEXUAL PRACTICES AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS. GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DEFINE, LICENSE, OR RESTRICT PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS.

Dave, how would you make sure that gays were not discriminated against in the workplace?

        • eyeswideopen

I don’t care to hear your drivel either, but you have a right to be here until you lose control and show that you can’t be civil. So, you need to understand that Mark, has the same right. I know it is hard for you to acknowledge that you rt wingers don’t have control here, but Bob, is truly giving all Americans the right to speak on this site.

Mark, why are you getting so upset since you have protection from religion. You are free to make your statements, but we are also free to make ours. I am very sorry for you that you don’t know the Truth personally, but God even gives you that right.
Just because our Founding Fathers honored God, and we honor God, does not mean that there is a ‘National Religion’. You are free to go to any church of your choice, or not to go. That is what the Constitution guarantees and means.
Being a Christian is a reality, not a religion.
We are also standing for morality, which this nation lacks greatly now.
Your belief is just as much a ‘religion’ to you because you fight for it and defend it. Your choice. Go at it and have a good life. It’s your ship you sail it any way you want.
For me and my house we will serve the Lord.

April, that is your right, if you want to admire someone who supports abortions, that is your decision. Although I must admit, I am a little surprised. But then again, all of you are supporting Glenn, who is preaching his Mormon apocalptic, Joseph Smiths, concepts by recommending the 5000 yr Leap book, written by W. Cleon Skouser. You need to do some research on all three of those people. Years ago, we had William Buckley to debunk Robert Welch when he was preaching the same types of crap that Glenn is. Now, nobody is calling Glenn out, the Mormons are so happy the are just counting the converts.

            Eyes,
Are you completely oblivious to reality? When the left constantly attacks any opinions contrary to their own as being ‘racist’ or ‘hateful’ they are creating the very condition that they say they abhor.
I know you are just practicing the “Rules for Radicals”. Saul would be proud of you.
As I have said before “Watch out what you wish for; it might come true”.

          • eyeswideopen

Dave, there aren’t that many liberals on this site, you act as though you are under attack. What there are probably four of us to refute your government is force mantra? Poor baby, you usually fight back, and not always in a kind fashion. I merely made note, that the idiot calling Obama a Hilter, is just honest and not hiding his hate. I thought that was pretty obvious, and we are getting used to it. It is ok for Jeff to ask why the race card, but I can’t make a comment on it? Gez, very tight line to walk don’t you think? Oh, that’s right I’m on the wrong side. If I would have asked why the race card, you all would be spitting bullets. Funny isn’t it?

        • Smilee

But the hatred of the black race is more prevalent on the right than the left, after all most blacks vote for the left candidates, bringing up the subject of racism in itself is not playing the race card, bringing it up to promote racism is.

          • libertytrain

I disagree with your comment re more prevalent on the right than the left – My experience is that the left hides their racism – and is definitely equal at stereotyping/racism. I.E. a recent comment re the “Hillbilly” and the states they live in as an example used of not quite up to snuff peoples; if one is “up North” where most of my liberal friends live – there is an incredible amount of racism that exists re for instance – “The Southerner” and their “accent,” “mentality” (in their eyes) etc. and about many other people, black, white, yellow, any color – But they can tell me because I was a Northerner in years gone by and “know” they are not racist – just “telling it like it is” – So, my life experience is there is an equal amount on both sides – the libs just keep it in the closet more often —

          • JeffH

And who would know this better than you! Oh yes, racism is alive and very much on the forefront in America, and the liberal left has seen to that! They have voiced that cry all over the MSM but soon after the “cry wolf” falls on deaf ears.

I don’t care about the bible, marriage is for procreation, so people can continue to populate the world, you can not have a union for that purpose between same sex so it should not be considered as such, even between two opposet sex if they are unable to have kids.

    • shadow_man

That argument is one of the easiest to prove wrong. If marriage was for procreation, straight couples that don’t or can’t have kids wouldn’t be able to get married. However, they can. So your argument holds no validity. Also, marriage is not necessary for procreation, as you can do that outside of marriage.

The notion that gays cannot procreate is also false. Last time i checked, gay males still produce sperm, lesbians still produce egg. As long as the two meet, which doesn’t have to be sexually, you can have a kid. There’s also methods such as artificial insemination, IVF, and surrogacy, and other methods that can easily lead to a child.

    • Smilee

Do you really only have sex when you want to have a baby??? If so I feel sorry for you, sex is not just for that and I think you know that is the case, we would not use birth control methods if that was the case would we. I think you have a serious problem with your sexuality.

For those of you claiming homosexuality is a “lifestyle”, that is a false and ignorant statement. Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don’t choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. If you can, sorry, but you are not heterosexual, you are bi-sexual. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that homosexuality is not a choice. Sexual orientation is generally a biological trait that is determined pre-natally, although there is no one certain thing that explains all of the cases. “Nurture” may have some effect, but for the most part it is biological.

  • shadow_man

Homosexuality is not a sin according to the Bible. Any educated Christian would know that. Scholars who have studied the Bible in context of the times and in relation to other passages have shown those passages (Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans, etc) have nothing to do with homosexuality. These passages often cherry-picked while ignoring the rest of the Bible. The sins theses passages are referring to are idolatry, prostitution, and rape, not homosexuality.

Thats why Jesus never mentions it as well. There is nothing immoral, wrong, or sinful about being gay. Jesus, however, clearly states he HATES hypocrites. If you preach goodness, then promote hate and twist the words of the Bible, you are a hypocrite, and will be judged and sent to hell. Homosexuals will not go to hell, hypocrites will.

This is very similar to the religious bigots of the past, where they took Bible passages to condone slavery, keep women down, and used Bible passages to claim blacks as curses who should be enslaved by the white man. People used God to claim that blacks marrying whites was unnatural, and not of God’s will.

If you are so sympathetic to the gay lifestyle go hire a gay couple to babysit your kids when you go out to dinner.

Isiah 5:20 seems to describe you pretty well, which in Christianity, is known as a hypocrite. Also, you confuse sexual orientation with a “lifestyle” They are not the same thing, as science has proved in the post above.

I love this “because Jesus never said so” argument.
It shows colossal stupidity and arrogance. So let’s
      play your little game.
Jesus never said ANYTHING about incest, pedophilia,
sex with animals or cadavers either. So THEREFORE…
it MUST be OKAY!!! Jesus DID mention a group called the
Nicolations in the book of Revelation which were said to be
a sect that taught moral looseness. I’m guessing that that
would probably describe all of the “gay” affirming “churches”
like the one you probably attend. Jesus even said he “hated”
the “deeds”, acts, sins of the Nicolations. “Hated” and
“abomination”. Two words only used once by Christ and once by
GOD to describe an UN-natural and CHOSEN act.

      • ccg

However, the Bible does say so.

  • shadow_man

Except the Bible does not condemn homosexuals unless you twist the words. Read my post at the far bottom which proves homosexuality is not a sin.

  • Trel

I don’t need the Bible to convince me that homosexuality is wrong. Any one with a shred of decency knows how perverted it is. Homosexuality is a “sin” condition like many other sins. We are supposed to confess our sins to God and ask for forgiveness, and be repentent, not make excuses for them so we can continue in our sinful ways. With Gods help, it is possible to stop this sinful lifestyle, but one truly has to “want” to change. Many have changed, so don’t tell me it’s not possible. All things are possible through Christ, who strengtheneth me.
    God bless you all.

    • shadow_man

Homosexuality is not a “sin” as i proved above

Homosexuality is not a “choice” as i proved above.

    • ccg

Ok, this is good as far as it goes. But the Bible tells us what things are despicable to God. We do not judge the person, but we must discern the act. We are not condemning someone to to hell, the person him/herself condemns themselves and that is between them and God.
In fact, I am not even against the gay people doing their thing, whatever it is. What I am against is them forcing me to say it is all right when I know it is not. I object to them teaching my children and grandchildren that homosexuality is all right. All you have to do is do your thing in private.
I am married, but I don’t go out in public and hang all over my spouse, nor do I kiss and fondle my mate in public to make a show. All I ask is for the same respect returned to me.
You want to be treated like a normal person, then ACT like a normal person, then go home and do whatever in your own home.

      • Smilee

In other words, everyone must do it your way. In your mind all will be well in the world if they do, kind of takes the free out of freedom for those we think other wise doesn’t it. One cannot really believe in freedom unless they also agree it is for those they do not approve of. Laws should be to keep one person from denying it to another and stop at that point.

        • Angela Sherman

Ohh please Christians have ran this country since it’s birth. Look at what you Christians and your imaginary rules have done. your children hate you. They cannot wait to rebel against everything you stand for. You tell them to wait until theyre married to have sex and they run out and bang everyone in their path. Your miserable, you make your children miserable, and you make this world miserable. Get in your Christian closet and play with your imaginary friends! Were out and never will we go back in !

      • JeffH

Smilee, as usual you put your leftist spin on ccg’s comments. He said nothing about forcing anything. What he did say is:
“I object to them teaching my children and grandchildren that homosexuality is all right. All you have to do is do your thing in private.” Keep Jenning’s ideas out of the classroom and children.

“I am married, but I don’t go out in public and hang all over my spouse, nor do I kiss and fondle my mate in public to make a show. All I ask is for the same respect returned to me.”

Kissing in public is fine, “fondling” and the sexual inuendos that go with it should be kept out of the publics eye and behind doors. Straight or Gay!

        • Smilee

You forgot his most important paragraph in his post, it follows and supports my post but you chose to ignore that so as to distort my post.

“You want to be treated like a normal person, then ACT like a normal person, then go home and do whatever in your own home.”

How is wanting freedom for all a leftist spin, should this be something all freedom loving people can agree on or do you all define feedom as something other than what it really is.

Smileeeeeee, Poor thing you just have to make something up so you can be happy.
In other words if you want to be treated like everyone else then act like everyone else. If I saw a man and a woman making out in public I would call the police and have it stopped. It is repulsive to be forced to watch or witness any type of lude immoral behavior. So act like a fellow citizen who is not trying to draw special attention to themselves and make a spectacle of themselves.
What happens in the privacy of your bedroom Smileeeee is no one elses business. Even if you have 3 other men in there with you.

Smileeeeee you are the one distorting the post here. You are in deed pathetic.

          • Smilee

You guys sure put a spin on what I said, I thought we were talking about gays and straights not acts that are illegal for both, I took his statement to me that he thought gay where not normal and he was, he sure made it sound that way as he never defined normal and now both of you have spun it into nothing I or either of you were talking about in our previous posts. You guy are unbelievable in how you take it off subject and then spin it off on a tangent. I stand by my two posts until he defines what he meant by normal and I still think he meant gays are not normal, we were not talking about activities but about marriage both same sex and both sexes.

        • Angela Sherman

Oh right I’ve never seen heterosexual people mauling eachother in public in front of my children. Happens on a daily basis! As well as them seeing Christian married men picking up hookers on the street corner while were at a stoplight. PHHHHH protecting the sacred institution of marraige. If it’s sacred you hetero’s sure don’t show it. Your actions speak louder than your garbage words!

  • James

Not that I expect this to have any effect, but Leviticus 20:13 reads: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Jesus said (Mt. 5:17-19): “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Then concerning the death penalty, John said (1 John 5:16): “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.”
From our beginnings, every state in the Union treated this sin as a crime or misdemeanor, that is, until Lawrence v. Texas, wherein the U.S. Supreme Court said such sexual acts were within the “Liberty” of the Fourteenth Amendment and declared all such state laws unconstitutional. Let the reader decide whether we are now under God’s judgment for that – and many other violations of His law.

    • ccg

James this is excellent. I would also like to add:
Romans1: 26) For this cause God gave them up to vile affections for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. (Lesbians)
      27) And likewise also the men leaving the natural use of women burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly—
      28) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind—to do those things which are not convenient.
Yep, homosexuality certainly is in the Bible, and it isn’t in favor of it.

    • Angela Sherman

YEAH YEAH of course your NIV version of the bible says that. It’s been revised by bigots as the Bible always has been! Why don’t you study the original text of the bible. See if you find anything relating to a commited homosexual relationship. It talks about rape. Your soddom and gemorrah story that you always refer to, how bout you interpret it properly. During the times that story was written it was common practice especially in war for HETEROSEXUAL MEN to rape a losing opponent to humiliate that opponent. To “have him as a woman”. What God was so angry about was that these HETEROSEXUAL MEN of SODDOM and Gemorrah were trying to rape and humiliate angels of the Lord.

The Obama administration has been working hard to silence the voices of any news service that doesn’t support them like good little propagandists. They are working to silence conservative radio, conservative news stations (there is only one that I know of), and even the Internet (through network neutrality). As if we have a dearth of opinions on the internet.
This should alarm even most Democrats, because only budding tyrants would work so hard to take away our freeedom of speech. Wake up people, we need to get these people out of our government.

    • JeffH

The very arrogance of this administration and the eletist attitude that is displayed almost daily, in my opinion, is turning off a lot of his supporters. The MSM has been sucking up to the Democrats and Obama for over a year now, and whether one agrees with Fox or not, it is obvious that he again threatens the freedom to speak. The people cannot stand for these threats to our freedom. This man is avn evil threat to a free America. Research his background, his associations and his beliefs and his appointments, it is all there in black and white to read. He is very clear with his intentions and his goals. You will find a direct connection and link up with one anti-American, George Soros.

      • Yoka

So true and I can’t understand how anyone in his right mind could have voted for him in the first place. They did not do the research what kind of person he was and who his friends are. No one in his right mind could vote for him. Change is nice but you first have to know what kind of change is coming. Obama is plain evil.He is a muslim and I stil have not seen his birth cetificate .Obama is poised to cede away our sovereignty. How did we ever elect this radical socialist, who is so anti-America? Wake up suckers and listen to this guy. He’s trying to warn us of our impending doom as a free nation. Are you listening?

The fact that Obama is a muslim isn’t and shouldn’t be a factor, although in lite of 9/11 I can understand the skeptics point of view.
It is his background, associations and his ideals that are so obvious.
I spent a month in the hospital in Jan/Feb of 2008 and though Obama was the darling of America and a savior. After I got out and started doing my research, I discovered what his agenda was, his proffessional associations and his working background, let alone his inexperience in politics. His anti-gun stance was the final straw. I realized what he said and what he believed were totally differant most of the time. Everytime he runs his mouth, he is trying to get votes and support, whether with hispanics, gays, blacks, whites, it all depends on which group he is addressing at that moment.
His support amongst the gays has been waning, so it is only natural that he do something positive to try to regain their trust.
Obama is playing Americans like a “5 string banjo”. He changes his tune to fit his audiance. BEWARE OF THE WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING!

Funny, I wonder what Fox could have become if Murdoch wasn’t such a rt wing conservative? They were smart and loaded it up with sexy, pretty commentators, problem is, only a few are actual journalists with integrity. I can’t take watching Glenn, however my girlfriend clues me in on his apocalptic conspiracies and she keeps saying, oh, my gosh, we don’t have a William Buckley to stop him. She is getting paranoid from listening to him. I tell her, he will start believing in all his own hype and will start drinking again, and it will end. Or maybe the jealousy from Hannity will cause a devious plot to be hatched. Never know.

    • American Citizen

The Obama Administration is a bunch of pantywaists. Obama keeps running all around the world and this country in order not to have to remain in the White House and make the tough decisions. How much of our money has he wasted on air travel since he took office?

      • JeffH

American Citizen, that is OK because he has all of his little czars to suggest policy changes. A trustworthy bunch, YA THINK?

  • Don G

I Do not Agree with this it is indeed moral decay and these people are sick and need medical research not condemnation nor complicity.
As for Obama’s beliefs you don’t know what he believes nor does anyone else he may still be playing in his closet in which case you only got what he wanted you to get and the truth is still in the closet with him.

LOOKS LIKE PERSONAL LIBERTY DIGEST IS GETTING THE SHEEP READY FOR 2010 WITH THEIR ANTI-GAY AGENDA. THIS SEEMED TO WORK FOR REPUBLICANS IN 2000 WHEN THEY CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEATING AL GORE(but didn’t!!! everyone knows al gore won that election but the supreme court handed it to bush instead, proven fact)anyway..getting back on point.. THEY CAME VERY CLOSE!

SEEMS LIKE SINCE THEY CAN’T OFFER ANYTHING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO HEALTHCARE, AND THE ECONOMY ,AND THE 2 WARS WE ARE IN, THEY ARE BEATING THE GAY DRUM ONCE AGAIN.

    • Yoka

I am not anti gay after all I am not your Judge G-d is.
What you do in private is your business but I do not believe in gay marriage that is not what G-d intended.
You must be a liberal and look what your Obama is up too that man is as evil as can be.

What you believe God intended, and what God actually intended, are 2 different things. God never said homosexuality is a sin. Don’t twist his words for your anti-gay agenda.

Get real. All the recounts done by the news organizations showed Al Gore did not win Florida.

Here is another thing you are all writing pieces of the bible. In the first place many bibles are full of mistakes and Christian bibles have inserted passages that was put in much ,much later by Man .The Masoretic text is the most accurate.
I am a Hebrew teacher and you can not translate the bible and believe what is says in English. It is not a newspaper. There are many words in Hebrew that can not be translated . You can not believe every word in it. Hebrew words have many meanings. Personally I only believe in the Torah .

    • libertytrain

Yoka, that’s very interesting and a good informative reminder how things, kind of, get lost in translation -

    • ccg

      Yoka,
The Sohporim were the authorized revisonrs of the Sacred Text and their work being completed. The Messorites were the authorized custodians of it. Their work was to preserve it.

I am also of Hebrew descent, of the Levitical Tribe, however, I am also a Christian and believe in the New Testament. In order to understand the New Testament, you must understand the Old Testament. The New Testament was written in Greek and studying, using the King James version which keeps the integrity of Bible intact, along with tools such as the Concordance, as well as Bible Dictionaries, and the Lexicon which explains the coloquial talk as well as the proper grammar of that day, assures us of the Truth.

What you are alluding to is that God is not capable of protecting the integrity of His word. That is not correct.

      • shadow_man

CCG: Yet you refused to prove any of his points wrong. Dancing around the subject doesn’t work as well in this day and age. People are seeing gay marriage is not a sin, homosexuality is not a choice, and tolerance and equality is the way to go. Nice try though.

        • ccg

Well, since this is obviously way over your head then you will probably never understand.

    • billy

did you hear what some of these psycho conservative republicans are doing now- they are going to publish a new writing of the bible. they want to re-write the bible, and the reason they give is: the current bible is “too liberal” (republicans-haha)

  • Jake

How this thread was hijacked is beyond me.

Back to the topic, please. Thank you.

Obama promised to end DOMA, yet went back on his promise.

Obama, the White House and Obama’s apologists may try to say that he has more pressing issues to take care of and that he has just put the issue on the backburner, but that is bull. Obama’s DOJ could have exercised caution and deference for now on this issue, just like they have with other issues – but they didn’t. They could have taken a neutral position on this for now – but they didn’t.

If Obama’s DOJ was truly just putting DOMA on the backburner because Obama had more pressing issues then they would have exercised caution and deference and took a neutral position for now. But they didn’t do that. Instead, they did a 180, attacked gay marriage and in a brief compared gay marriage to incest.

Go to YouTube and in the search bar type in the following words: Rachel Maddow Defense Of Marriage Act Obama

She was NOT happy with Obama or Obama’s DOJ.

    Obama is a deceiver.

  • Mark

So, just a reminder, the topic was Obama’s intent to repeal the “Defense of Marriage Act”. The law has two effects:

    1. No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) needs to treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state.

    2. The federal government defines marriage as a legal union exclusively between one man and one woman.

This law (DOMA) is unconstitutional because:

    1. DOMA exceeds congressional authority in violation of the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

    2. Congress over-reached its authority under the Full Faith and Credit Clause.

    3. The law illegally discriminates and violates the Equal Protection Clause.

    4. The law violates the fundamental right to marriage under the due process clause.

  • Reverend Ira L. Lewis

Obama is President of all America. His acknowledging the will of those who choose to be gay is no worse than those who deliberately attempt to STEAL the SURPLUS of The United States of America; that is what The Bush Regime attempted to do and did do to a great damage of our Sovereign Economy. With the help Religious Extreme Right trying to say that 9/11 was a Holy War attack against the Christian Foundation of The United States of America, the Bush Regime deceptively led us into a so-called war against Muslim Terrorist, whom they (Bush Regime) allowed them to attack this Sovereign Nation. Again, why was this War taken to Saudi Arabia, whom most of those terrorists came from, including the elusive Bin Laden? The Bible (Jude 4) states FOR THERE ARE CERTAIN MEN CREPT IN UNAWARES, WHO WERE BEFORE OF OLD ORDAINED TO THIS CONDEMNATION, UNGODLY MEN, TURNING THE GRACE OF GOD INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS, AND DENYING THE ONLY LORD GOD, AND OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. These false Christians are deceptively attempting to tear down the wall of the true doctrine of The Word of God for the Love of Money. God stated in Genesis 6:3 THE LORD SAID, MY SPIRIT SHALL NOT ALWAYS STRIVE WITH MAN, FOR THAT HE ALSO IS FLESH… People are gullible in their conception of Wisdom and are very unlearned and easily influenced of the guardian of their BEING.

  • James Corbin

I say, If they want children, let them get them the old fashion way—
(Normal Way) After-all! God made them fully equipped to have their own. Does this not tell them they desire the things which is normal!!!

  • hyhybt

An interesting contrast between the name of the site and the views of most of the commenters: one would not expect a site with “personal liberty” in its address to contain so much opposition to the freedom to marry. Is this normal around here?

  • desertguy

Hey Barry, If you are so afraid of your God, then don’t be a homosexual. Go home and beat your wife, scare your children and kick your dog! Bible says thats ok.

  • Sue

A man,Poking another man in the rear end,is sick. It goes against the body. Stuff is supposed to go out there, not in. Aids is another factor, directly one of the main causes of this practice.
