Obama’s Favor-Buying Slush Fund

April 6, 2012 by

Obama’s Favor-Buying Slush Fund
PHOTOS.COM
Two corporations with news organizations that regularly cover President Barack Obama and his policies got money from the Obamacare slush fund.

A provision in the Obamacare bill gives the Administration of Barack Obama a taxpayer-funded $5 billion slush fund to dole out to favored businesses, labor unions and States to pay for health insurance for early retirees. Two recipients of those funds are The Washington Post Company and CBS Corporation.

The fund is the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP), and about $2 billion of the fund’s total — which is supposed to last until 2014 when the Obamacare taxes begin to kick in — has been doled out already. It is projected that the fund will be exhausted before the end of the year.

But it’s noteworthy that two corporations with news organizations that regularly cover Obama and his policies are recipients of the largess. The Washington Post Company, the parent of The Washington Post, received $573,217. CBS Corporation owns CBS News and raked in $722,388.

House Republicans are asking questions of the Administration in an effort to learn what criteria it uses to determine who gets what.

Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) told The Daily Caller in an email: “It is fine with me if they continue covering the ObamaCare debate. When NBC used to cover energy issues, they identified themselves as a subsidiary of General Electric. CBS and Washington Post just have to disclose that they are subsidiaries of the Obama Administration.”

And House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) emailed The Daily Caller with this: “This program is providing ‘free’ money to corporations, states, unions, and pension plans. In addition, the Washington Post and CBS received funding under this program. How can the Washington Post and CBS be impartial on the issue of health care when they received funding under the health care law?”

Of course, it’s been a long time since the MSM displayed any sense of impartiality.

Media tyrants, just like political tyrants, don’t concern themselves with word definitions. I’m anxious to hear how buying friends and votes will make America better. You’d think that unions, certain states and certain businesses matter more than the American people.
The love of money seems to be quite a temptation. It can’t buy integrity or honor or respect. It does, however, buy politicians wholesale. Sad. Predictable, but sad.

    • Vigilant

“It is projected that the fund [$5 billion] will be exhausted before the end of the year.”

This is an election year, is it not?

I’m still trying to find “bite me’s” spreadsheet on stimulus spending. WTF, did he have corzine helping him?

    • Sirian

It’s all part of the flow of money and favors in and out of the political world. Nothing new, runs back as far as Caesar if not even before that. I do agree with you s c – “It can’t buy integrity or honor or respect.”. Never has, never will. :(

      • ktuncia

Of course this is nothing new. What is new is the exponentially increased amount of money being dished out. Not only does it prevent fair and accurate reporting as it always has but it also is effecting the value of our dollar because the amounts of money are so extreme. Rome burns and Obama and government organizations party. Never has it been so blatant.. never.

Marsha is my representative as well. After reading your post, I went and checked her voting record. I did not see the problems that you seem to have with her voting record. It was almost entirely conservative, didn’t see anything that would be considered “unconstitutional” in nature.

Not sure where YOU got your stats, but I might beg to differ with your opinion of her voting record. I am also a very fiscally conservative republican and I have always appreciated her representation for our district.

Anyone else who may be interested should check our her full voting record here and make your own decision based on the source facts:

  • GALT

“For every subtle and complicated question there is a perfectly simple and straightforward answer which is WRONG!” H.L. Mencken

Good Morning Mr Livingston, it is I, Galt….the “historical revisionist”, your sole response and characterisation of me to date, which doesn’t really help much, because it neglected to identify what was being revised. This was in reference to my comments on “the founders” and a recommendation that those who truly wished to understand the “history” should read: Ratification, The People Debate the Constitution 1787-1788, rather than to simply regurgitate from sources available to date, relying heavily on the Federalist Papers, which had minimal impact “on the debate”…..this source covers all the state conventions, and what happenned…..as well as focusing on the primary “problem” which was the “all or nothing” option, and the methods and means used to insure “success”.

I also suggested that, YOU as a self described “ultra-conservative” ( how close is that to anarchist? ) should be more pre-disposed to the anti-federalist position…….but when one is engaged in what I describe as the “babble business”….the urge or neccessity seems to overrule any sense of reason or commitment to intelligent analysis.
My question for you today is: in regards to the above kvetching rhetorical babble is why refer to this as Obama Care, when you seem to understand the dangers of our present so-called health care system, and the compromise that was forced, ( and by whom ) simply guarantee’s private insurance profit margin, and increases the market base, which guarantee’s that costs must rise? I ask this because, the system of so-called health care we do have, is the leading cause of death in the U.S., which you seem to understand, and the effects of this “compromise” will make things worse……so the choice, for you seems to be “nothing”…….how does that educate or inform or do anything to address what you seem to know to be the REAL PROBLEM?

It is prompted by the question above; Who IS Bob Livingston…..REALLY?

What evidence can we look to…..let’s take a look.

Corporatism: The Secret Government of the New World Order by Jeffrey Grupp
The Politically Incorrect Guide to The Great Depression and The New Deal by Robert P. Murphy, Ph.D.

April 15, 2010 by Bob Livingston
Murphy deals with the three main explanations of the Great Depression: 1) The wildcat free market caused the Great Depression and the New Deal pulled us out of it; 2) A Market economy goes through natural ups and downs, but the Federal Reserve let the money supply collapse in the early 1930s, turning a normal downturn in the Great Depression; and 3) The Federal Reserve fueled the stock market boom of the 1920 with its easy money policies. After the crash, the Fed did the wrong thing by cutting rates and propping up unsound institutions. Hoover’s and FDR’s interventions in the economy only made things worse. He dissects each argument and provides evidence that the third explanation is the most plausible.

The Secret History of American Empire: The Truth About Economic Hit Men, Jackals, and How to Change the World by John Perkins

October 9, 2009 by Bob Livingston

But what goes on in the shadows is quite different. It’s actually an ever-growing leviathan that employs bribery, coercion, extortion and even, at times, assassination as billion dollar corporations and people acting under authority of the U.S. government—the corporatocracy—work to spread U.S. empire.

In The Secret History of American Empire, author John Perkins continues what he started when he first came out of the shadows with his book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, in 2004.

In that book he introduced us to the nefarious world of corporatocracy—a cadre of multinational corporations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), government diplomats and agents from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)—with his own stories of working as an economic hit man (EHM)to enrich himself and the entities he represented at the expense of other countries.

Grunch of Giants by R. Buckminster Fuller

According to Fuller, every day 75,000 humans around the world die of starvation and its side effects, even though more than enough food is produced to support all the people on earth.

Grunch did not cause this, Fuller says, but Grunch could easily end it if it so chose. Grunch, Fuller writes, did not invent the universe. In fact, it did not invent anything. It monopolizes know-where and know-how but is devoid of know-why. It is preoccupied with absolute selfishness and its guaranteed gratifications. It is as blind as its Swiss banks are mute.

This book is not light reading. In fact, it is often difficult to follow and at times quite scientific in its language. Nor is it for the closed-minded, because it challenges conventional thinking and forces the reader to look at the world from a different paradigm.

But if you are willing to consider that things aren’t as they seem, and in fact are completely different from what all are taught, then this book makes a good addition to your library.

Where is THIS, Bob Livingston? or the one who also says: We encourage an open discussion with a wide range of viewpoints, even extreme ones, but we will not tolerate racism, profanity or slanderous comments toward the author(s) or comment participants. Make your case passionately, but civilly. Please don’t stoop to name calling.

Now I realise that you said passionately…..not intelligently, but what you usually end up with….is passionate name calling and every manner of logical fallacy………by an audience, who has no clue, that the Bob Livingston who wrote the above reviews exists…….and this simply maintains the ignorance of the “victims”….cui bono?

    • Sirian

Well Mr. Wonder Knowledge, you’ve added a rather extensive retaliatory comment that has absolutely nothing to do with the main theme of the article. Is this intelligence at it’s best or then again, something other? Would it have perhaps been best to merely e-mail Mr. Livingston direct instead of promoting your level of supposed cranial craziness? Just wondering. . .

      • GALT

And deprive YOU of a potential response direct from the “horse’s mouth”, and assist you in actually figuring out what the “main theme” is? Because you clearly missed the “main theme” of my post………and yet, just had to respond.

      • Sirian

        Let’s take a look. . . ;)
        Point raised in article:
“ObamaCare bill gives the Obama Administration a slush fund to dole out to favored businesses, labor unions and States to pay for health insurance for early retirees.”
Your response directed to this point specifically:
        NONE
        Point raised in article:
“House Republicans are asking questions of the Administration in an effort to learn what criteria it uses to determine who gets what.”
Your response directed to this point specifically concerned with what answers the House Republicans are seeking and up to this point in time what answers they have received.
        NONE
        Point raised in article:
Rep. Marsha Blackburn points out that the two corporations that have been receiving funds from the ERRP, The Washington Post Company and CBS Corporation, just have to disclose that they are subsidiaries of the Obama Administration.
Your response to this quote and point specifically:
        NONE
        Point raised in article:
House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) is quoted in saying – ““This program is providing ‘free’ money to corporations, states, unions, and pension plans. In addition, the Washington Post and CBS received funding under this program. How can the Washington Post and CBS be impartial on the issue of health care when they received funding under the health care law?”
Your response to this quote and point specifically:
        NONE
You may have provided book titles, which may be good in at least one respect, book titles, but still, what has any of what you have listed have to do with the main theme of the article? Is it not so that you are quite pointedly firing a bold retort, insults included, at Bob Livingston in an effort to embellish your reading abilities? After closely reviewing and researching the books and authors you listed they bear no level of importance to the main theme of the article other than your attempt at proving presumptuously who or what Bob Livingston really is. Being well established in his writings should be rather obvious as to who or what he is, should it not? Is your ego now fully satisfied?

      • GALT

        Did you miss this?

“My question for you today is: in regards to the above kvetching rhetorical babble is why refer to this as Obama Care, when you seem to understand the dangers of our present so-called health care system, and the compromise that was forced, ( and by whom ) simply guarantee’s private insurance profit margin, and increases the market base, which guarantee’s that costs must rise? Please allow Mr. Livingston to respond for himself, if HE doesn’t actually understand the point of the question, he can ask for and will receive further clarification…..all you have demonstrated is that you can not comprehend what was written, or the reason for it…..but you have done an amazing job demonstrating why it was asked…..and insist on continuing…….”

    • MAP

Gatt, you prove yourself to be the typical arrogant, ill-mannered, know-it-all, pseudo-intellectual, foaming-at-the-mouth, fanatical liberal/socialist/communist. Perhaps you think Obamacare will give you the mental help you so desperately need for free. Alas, your rabid rant is wasted here, as it has convinced no one, least of all, probably, Bob. He, unlike liberal dreamers, is a thinking man and knows that statism and tyranny are two names for the same thing.

      • GALT

Who is Gatt? More unintelligent passionate name calling in Bob’s defense. I suppose it is possible that Mr. Livingston could also miss the point that all that is contained are questions…..for Bob? One of them being that if his goal is dispelling ignorance, there doesn’t seem much evidence that he is succeeding?

      • GALT

Oh, and just so you understand….everything after “let’s take a look” until the words,
“Where is THIS Bob Livingston?” are the words of…..wait for it……Bob Livingston!

      • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

galt perhaps what you wrote in your long babble made sense to you but I can’t imagine how it could make sense to others – it rambles, no direct question, totally nonsensical – what are you expecting for an answer from anyone if your own post has not a bit of clarity to it….

      • GALT

Yes, I understand that for you, it probably would be…..that’s why it was addressed to Mr. Livingston, and providing further reason for him to answer, thank you for your assistance.

      • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

You’re welcome. We all do what we can to help folks like you.

    • http://boblivingstonpl.wordpress.com Bob Livingston

      Dear Galt,

I am impressed that you have spent so much time researching the site. As to the point of your question—if I get the point—you ask: “why refer to this as Obama Care, when you seem to understand the dangers of our present so-called health care system, and the compromise that was forced, ( and by whom ) simply guarantee’s (sic) private insurance profit margin, and increases the market base, which guarantee’s (sic) that costs must rise?” I have written—and you may know this—that healthcare in America is deathcare. That is what it is, as it is a corporacratic system designed to enrich Big Pharma and their drug pushing physicians with the blessings of the FDA, whose “researchers” are funded, aided and abetted by Big Pharma. The same FDA that, by the way, is doing all it can to eliminate the choices of those who prefer alternative healthcare treatments and natural supplements to address their ailments. I refer to the discussions of the Affordable Healthcare Act as Obamacare as a simple way of addressing the bill, which is an unfortunate fact of life. The Obamacare bill is not only an unConstitutional monstrosity, it also serves to force the unsuspecting masses into the healthcare (deathcare) system. It will grant the government carte blanche to force all types of “treatments” and vaccinations for the “public good.” It will also lead to the withholding of the good treatments that benefit people, particularly the aging: ie, joint transplants, eye surgeries for cataracts, etc. I say this because Obama medical director Ezekiel Emmanuel and other Obama healthcare advisers are on record advocating the withholding of treatment to the elderly.

You write: “how does that educate or inform or do anything to address what you seem to know to be the REAL PROBLEM?” I consider myself educating and informing the readers of all egregious aspects of this bill.

      Best wishes,
      Bob

      • GALT

I have already acknowledged my agreement with you regarding the so called “health care” system and that it is the current leading cause of death in the U.S. but this bill is not what Obama started out attempting to do, and the results simply make the problems with health care that much worse……because they leave in place, the causes of those problems,
insurance companies, big pharma and a medical establishment that is and has been essentially incompetent.

To refer to it as Obamacare suggests to those who seek the simple answer here, that
Obama is the cause and his removal is the cure…..

Also the chances that this bill will be declared unconstitutional is doubtful, since it would call into question the mandated retirement program known as Social Security, which is voluntary……as is the mandate for this bill…..since there is no enforcement mechanism available or permitted.

Clearly, all those problems need to be addressed, but they will not go away with the disappearance of this bill…..since these were all problems before…..so what is the message…….that Obama is the problem…..or the system itself……because the problem doesn’t change even if he is re-elected……and it might get much worse if he isn’t.

Mr.Root’s claim yesterday was…..most are HAPPY with the health care they have…..
which seems to suggest that the problem is the SYSTEM isn’t the message people are hearing?

  • ladybug

http://www.petition2congress.c… Go to this website and sign the petition to vet Obama and check into his eligibility to be president. Send this to everybody on your mailing list. Ask them to do the same. We must keep up the pressure on congress till they do the right thing. If the link doesn’t work, cut and paste.

Obama is doing something underhanded and sneaky? Who’d a thought it? This the president of “complete transparency”?

    • Honestly

Yes he is!!!!!!!!!!! Totally unbelievable and manipulative. Watch closely.

    • Thinking About

Perhaps you could read U S Code Title 8, Section 1401 and you will find why Obama has been vetted and why there is not going to be results of a petition you are desiring. For those on this who claim to be Constitutionist maybe you can assist others who need help in understanding. If Congress or courts try to remove Obama when he is a natural born citizen then they would be in the wrong and this they know.

The 850,000,000,000.00 dollar stimulus money(Obama slush fund) is finding its way into union coffers is mind blowing to say the least.

  • s c

Comrade ‘j,’ thanks for bringing up the idea of ‘reading’ a bill. You realize by now, I hope, that if we had a Congress with a dab of integrity – and a prez who knew the difference between crap and apple butter – we wouldn’t be looking at an overdue Supreme Court evaluation of what is potentially THE most destructive and the absolute worst legislation ever passed in Amerika [Obummer's healthcare scam, which owes its existence to Bismarck and Hitler].
It would be NICE to elect people who can READ and UNDERSTAND what they pass. I see no reason to pay people who can’t or won’t READ. When education wasn’t quite as worthless as it is now, kids were HELD BACK in school because they were poor readers or they hadn’t LEARNED enough to get promoted.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a bunch of posers in Congress can’t read or think and couldn’t be re-elected without a political machine that fosters incompetence and rewards a long-term hatred of everything that smacks of freedom.

  • Thinking About

I find it interesting you omitted from your article this program has been since 2010 and a deadline of March 30, 2012 but now an extension to April 27, 2012. It would be interesting if you mentioned earmarks which created slush funds for congressional members to pay members in their district as Ron Paul gets.

    • Vigilant

The Federal Register says, “Sponsors are expected to use such funds as soon as possible, but not later than December 31, 2014.”

      See http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-03-21/pdf/2012-6728.pdf

What program are you talking about?

      • Thinking About

From the ERRP web site the deadline to apply is April 27, 2012.

      • Vigilant

The ERRP website says, “The deadline for Plan Sponsors that have received ERRP reimbursement for a given plan year to submit an error-free Claim List that passes the automated edits and an associated reimbursement request for that plan year has been extended from March 30, 2012 to April 27, 2012.”

What were you “thinking about” when you read that? Got a problem with reading comprehension? It’s got nothing to do with the article or what we’re talking about.

      • Thinking About

I am glad you have gone to the official site of ERRP and have found the same information I had already stated. I hope in the future you will be able to find these sites and get the correct information. As far as having a reading problem, no, you repeated the same information I had already stated so go and judge for yourself.

    • kkflash

      T.A.,
Just doing a routine fact check here. I noticed you omitted all facts from your comment… so nothing I can check. Please support your allegation with a verifiable example of slush money received or doled out by Ron Paul. Without such support, we must dismiss your comment as liberal drivel at best.

      • Thinking About

I don’t know how long you have followed Ron Paul but he has been very successful in adding earmarks to bills and always votes against the bill but does not turn the funds. It is the same type of slush fund Livingston claims Obama uses. Just because you do not research a person does not make Paul’s earmarks go away.

Social Security is not voluntary, if you get a pay check, $$ is deducted from it and goes to govt coffers. Same with medicare, I was taxed for it while I earned a check. Now that I am old enough, I receive whatever the govt allows me . Then I pay taxes on it. An entitlement is something of value that is given to someone that has not paid for it.

Hell folks its oNLY taxpayers money.
Just a quetion but do you folks know how much we spend ea year for these peoples Wages, vehicles,Drivers, entertainment, Includes Girls, excess office staff, SECURITY, and all the other Perks. I have always wondered WHY these People NEED so much security, This even goes down to our local politicians. No wonder we dont have any MEN serving in office.
Stand Your Ground. But let it be for a good cause.

Money, Money, Power, Power, ALWAYS HAS BEEN THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
The People as a whole is the Power, We just dont use it.

Hopefully we will this coming November 6 2012. VOTE ABO!!!

  • s c

Maybe it was predictable. As of right now [48 responses], it seems no one picked up on the idea that we finally have proof as to Queen Nancy Pelosi’s TRUE intent when she said “We have to pass this so we can see what’s in it.” What we have, Amerika, is a twisted prez who’s using krap legislation to fund an UNCONSTITUTIONAL law with money that he’s STEALING from Amerika.
You SOB utopians may call that “love,” but anyone with a bit of common sense and a love of freedom sees it as absolute, utter HATE. The idea that a back-stabbing prez would do such a thing [hide a sneaky way to use OUR money to buy votes and make his friends RICH at OUR expense] should tell a voter EVERYTHING he or she needs to know when it comes time to VOTE.
If you can’t see Obummer for who and what he really is by NOW, you never will.
