  • President Barack Obama’s 2014 State of the Union address drew an average of 33.3 million viewers Tuesday night, according to Nielsen. That is the lowest showing since 2000, when President Clinton’s speech averaged 31.5 million viewers. Source: The Los Angeles Times… 

 

  • President Barack Obama was barely out of the Capitol after delivering his State of the Union address Tuesday before members of his own party began distancing themselves from the president. In an interview with CNN after the speech, Alaska Senator Mark Begich, one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for reelection this year, took aim at Obama’s focus on using executive actions to go around Congress. ”I’ll be anxious to see what these executive orders are,” he said. “But if they go too far you’ll clearly hear push back from me.   • Iran now has all the technical infrastructure to produce nuclear weapons should it make the political decision to do, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper wrote in a report to a Senate intelligence committee published Wednesday.   • Attorney General Eric Holder couldn’t explain the Constitutional basis for executive orders such as President Obama’s delay of the employer mandate because he hasn’t read the legal analysis – or at least, hasn’t seen it in a long time. “I’ll be honest with you, I have not seen – I don’t remember looking at or having seen the analysis in some time, so I’m not sure where along the spectrum that would come,” Holder replied when Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), asked him to explain the nature of Obama’s Constitutional power to delay the mandate.   • School officials at the University of Minnesota are working with black student and facility organizations after they wrote a letter to the school’s president about the racial descriptions given in crime alerts. At Wednesday’s forum, Ian Taylor Jr., president of the Black Men’s Forum, said members of his organization feel threatened when the use of a racial description is given in the crime alerts.
