Obamacare (Obamamania) And The Ghost Of Pierre Trudeau

Obamacare (Obamamania) And The Ghost Of Pierre Trudeau

"This is like deja vu all over again."
Yogi Berra

The dictum hit me like a shockwave: Buy into President Obama’s healthcare plan or be considered a criminal.

I had seen it before; a time when another young legal scholar became a sensation. Once he was in power a nation waited breathlessly for him to deliver a new age. He did so with guile and determination.

That man was Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and decades after he left office Canada is still reeling.

Trudeaumania hit Canada in the mid-60s. Trudeau was then a young self-admitted Marxist and Harvard grad (yes Harvard!). He was as brilliant as he was ruthless, and he used his Red Guard elitists to sweep away the Liberal establishment. His first priority: healthcare and financial reform.

It didn’t hurt Trudeau that he was French Canadian. That allowed his supporters and the mainstream media to claim that political opponents were acting out of centuries old prejudices.

Trudeau’s liberal government called themselves “libertarian socialists” and their near dictatorial rule spanned from 1968 to 1984. During that time the Prime Minister set his sights on building what he called a “Just Society.”

“It seems evident to me that the regime of free enterprise has shown itself incapable of adequately resolving problems posed in education, health, housing, full employment, etc.,” said Trudeau.

He backed up his words by implementing the Canada Health Act. It prohibited user fees and extra billing by doctors. Yes, the Prime Minister wrote into law that doctors could only make what the government decided they should be paid. Many of Canada’s best doctors immigrated to the United States.

But Trudeau had loftier goals than just healthcare. He declared that intervention needed to be administered, "at the first sign of national economic weakness: to stimulate buying by putting more money in the hands of consumers.”

To that end Trudeau dictated that, “The State should distribute, extensively and resolutely, payments of all kinds: direct aid, unemployment insurance, agricultural assistance and various grants.”

Nationalization and the Suspension of Habeas Corpus
The Trudeau government launched a wave of nationalization programs. None were larger or more devastating than the National Energy Program (NEP) enacted in 1980.

The NEP was set up to remedy spiraling oil costs for Canadians by forcing oil companies operating in Western Canada to sell their petroleum at a discount to the Eastern provinces. It was nothing short of larceny. Eastern Canada received Western oil at a vast discount. It is estimated that the NEP cost Alberta $100 billion. It was such a blatant seizure of wealth that many of us in Alberta joined a secessionist political party.

The March 11, 2008, American Thinker sums up the Trudeau years: “(He) nationalized 25 percent of the petroleum industry and ruined the nascent boom economy of conservative Alberta. He ensured minority group representation at every level of government and instituted French language requirements in remote English-speaking corners of the country. He turned away from the United States and toward a "third way", vowing to make Canada more European, including the imposition metric system.”

Trudeau did all of that and much more.

In October 1970, the terrorist group FLQ kidnapped British Trade Commissioner James Cross and Quebec’s Minister of Labour Pierre Laporte.

When CBC reporter Tim Ralfe asked him how far he was willing to go to stop the FLQ, Trudeau replied: "Just watch me."

Three days later, on Oct. 16, 1970, the Cabinet under Trudeau’s chairmanship advised the governor general to invoke the War Measures Act. The result was widespread deployment of Canadian Forces troops throughout Quebec and the suspension of habeas corpus, giving far-reaching powers of arrest to police.

The Trudeau government gave the appearance that martial law had been imposed. With far-reaching powers police arrested and detained, without bail, 497 individuals. All but 62 were later released without charges.

Four decades have passed since Trudeau imposed martial law on Canada and it has been 30 years since he nationalized Canada’s oil industry. But even south of the border the cataclysm still echoes. It gains a growing resonance as an American president unleashes his plans for a just society.

“The Obama election’s implications for us are possibly just as fundamental as was Trudeau’s for Canada,” said Michael Krauss, professor of Law at George Mason University. “What if we became Canada?”

I have bad news for Krauss; America is going down that same ruinous path with President Obama. It is hard to conclude otherwise, especially in light of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro declaring last month that the passage of American healthcare reform was "a miracle" and a major victory for Obama’s presidency.

It seems Obama is the kind of leader that Cuba can embrace. (Castro certainly had a close bond with Trudeau. Before he attended Trudeau’s state funeral in the autumn of 2000 he declared three days of mourning in Cuba.)

Just how far to the left President Obama will steer America remains to be seen, but the fact that America is seriously tilting to port is undeniable. Riding roughshod over the Constitution is just one step. Others include the president’s determination to grow government and redistribute the nation’s wealth.

Furthermore, it is naïve to think that Obama will be gone in less than three years. Many a Canadian, especially us out here in the West, believed Trudeau would be a one-term prime Minister. But Canadians got used to collecting Trudeau dollars. By the time he faced his first re-election in 1972 enough Canadians had bought into the prime Minister’s “Just Society” that he would go on to serve another 12 years.

Look for the Dollar to go Loonie
When Trudeau took office in 1968 the Canadian dollar was selling at par with its U.S. counterpart. By the time Trudeau left office in 1984 the Canadian dollar was selling for just 70 cents U.S. That was the Canadian dollar’s first significant devaluation in a century.

In fact, during the Trudeau years the Canadian dollar lost more than half of its purchasing power. Canadians got healthcare, but not one of them could say it was free.

The same scenario could unfold in the U.S., especially if the midterm elections don’t go the Republicans’ way next fall. It is amazing what the majority will sometimes accept and even encourage. I know because I have seen it happen. Not in Cuba… right here in Canada.

Action to take: Accumulate 1-ounce Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, American Gold Eagle and South African Gold Krugerrand coins.

The US is passing Canadian Socialism at breakneck speed. A better question would be is the US surpassing Nazi Socialism?

    • BigBadJohn

Please do try to get definitions correct. The current administration may have socialist leanings, but the previous administration were the Nazi’s.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism
Nazism was a far right form of politics
Post-World War II Nazism (neo-Nazism) has adherents in several countries around the world, although it remains a fringe movement. The ideology, iconography, and literature of Nazism are now outlawed in Germany and some other European countries. In Europe and North America, the term Nazi and affiliated ideas and symbols denote and connote white supremacist racism. – (that sounds like a good percentage of the folks who post here).

      http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERnazi.htm
In April, 1920, Hitler advocated that the party should change its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP). Hitler had always been hostile to socialist ideas, especially those that involved racial or sexual equality. However, socialism was a popular political philosophy in Germany after the First World War…..

Hitler, therefore redefined socialism by placing the word ‘National’ before it. He claimed he was only in favour of equality for those who had “German blood”. Jews and other “aliens” would lose their rights of citizenship, and immigration of non-Germans should be brought to an end. (this sounds like the rights cry to deport all aliens)

      • JC

I see Nazi’s as far left. No matter where you place them the parallels are uncanny in that the intantions of the Nazi’s and today’s “progressives” are completely evil.

        • Jimbo

I suppose you see Skinheads as leftist too? Get a life!

          • denniso

j c…you see leftists as nazis because you don’t know what you’re talking about. You should try reading some political philosophy.
I wonder which party, right or left, repub or dem, you think is more eager to lock an American away for decades for marijuana possession??
I wonder if you remember that it was Nixon who began the ‘war on drugs’ that began the fascist tatics and absurd sentences for mild
drugs like pot? Do you know that the Dem Carter backed off on the ‘war’ and then the rightist Reagan came in and ramped it up again?
The revived ‘war on drugs’ locked away kids and others for life for
possessing a pound of pot. No, you don’t remember or haven’t read about it? Well, it’s fact. The drug war is the most nazi/fascist like aspect of our ‘free’society and it’s supported mostly by the rightwingers. I wonder why those rightwingers who think that Obama is
fascist don’t seem to worry about the extreme loss of civil liberties and the connections to the private prison industry that the idiotic drug war gives us?
I also remember the rightists Cheny/Bush using federal police chasing med marijuana users down in states that had legalized it.
Your a reactionary who can’t think clearly because your blinded by your personal ideology. Think about it….

          • JC

No I see skinheads as morons. I see you as a moron too, for totally twisting my words…that also puts you firmly over the “left horizon”.
If only you lefties were actually capable a reasoned thinking you might actually get some respect for your views. I won’t bother repeating this for dennso.

          • denniso

J C…you don’t answer or address a specific point,do you…Do you think that Cheny/Bush were not using fascist tactics in their mad pursuit of more power? Do you really think that Obama is fascist like in trying to save our entire system from collapse?
Now, i agree that forcing people to buy ins from private corporations is draconian and i want it changed, but the rest of the healthcare bill
is only trying to fix a terribly broken system that is bankrupting people and the country.

          • JC

denniso, to answer your question specifically “Yes I do”. Would you please stop assuming that everyone who opposes your oppressive moronic leftist views is automatically a Bush Republican. I am a Libertarian who believes in the US Constitution and the framework laid out by our founding fathers. As far as I’m concerned the whole system is rotten beyond repair and needs to be torn almost completely down and rebuilt. And I don’t believe this effort will require the kind of help you and whole lot of Republicans have to offer. You’re ALL big government control freaks. I’m an American, not a serf.

          • denniso

Why do I assume that these people demonizing Obama and liberals were supporters of Cheny? It’s obvious, isn’t it? These trashers of Obama never had an ill word to say about Cheny/bush,for all the ill they did,and they still don’t. I don’t see you including Cheny in your rants about federal power running amok…listening to you and the others it’s only Obama/Dems who want to enslave and control you. If you want credibility in your criticism of Obama then make it broader
and include people like Reagan,Nixon,Bush…or else your only showing partisan bias.

          • JC

denniso, that’s because I live in the “now” with an eye to the future. The past is gone and is no excuse for even worse behaviour.

          • denniso

There is no such thing as politics in the ‘now’. W/o history to give some needed context there is no way to determine the value or worth of the present…there is no such thing as an absolute and the past is like a guidepost for the future.
Maybe you sound like a reactionary because you don’t care where the country was before now on issues like civil rights, slavery(talk about
tyranny for a whole group of people),women’s right to vote, child labor, no environmental protection and more. We have come a long way
from a past that wasn’t so great in many ways.

        • Hugh Jordin

Nazis are far RIGHT. You put them on the incorrect end of the political spectrum.

          • coal miner

            Hugh Jordin,

You are absolutely correct.Fascism is on the far right.JC better go back to school.Nazis hate communist and socialist. Hitler said they were Jewish inventions of the left.

          • TIME

No your both quite wrong they; as in Nazis are on the far left, your ignorance fails to make it anything else.

Learn something other than the trash thats been printed in the last 40 years. Read read and then read more.

          • Norm

            time
The ideologies associated with the far right are fascism, Nazism, racial supremacists (especially neo-fascists and neo-Nazis group), religious extremists, and other ultra-nationalist or reactionary ideologies and movements. The terms are often used to imply that someone is an extremist.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism

          • JC

Coal Miner wants to give political lessons? Listen up CM:
NAZI stands for National Socialist. Socialism is a leftist ideology.
Good Lord but you are misinformed. No wonder the world thinks we’re idiots.

          • Normal Guy

            SC

Your simplistic rationalization is as usual on this thread, wrong. So you think that because the fascists known as Nazi’s called their party the National Socialists that that puts them on the left side of the political spectrum. So let’s look at another favorite point incorrectly made on this thread – America in not a Democracy but a republic (not mutually exclusive by the way) – The Chinese nation is called what? “The Peoples Republic if China” – must be the same as the US I guess it is a republic? How about the Republic of Cuba, oh I love this one “The peoples Democratic Republic of Korea” for North Korea (that’s the bad one you know the axis of evil). So north Korea must be a legitimate democracy, right it’s in the name must be???

Anyhow SC your position that if it has socialism in the name it must be socialist (you do think socialism is on the left of the political spectrum – don’t you?) then all the companies in the world that are being slammed for doing environmental damage could just add environmentalists to their name and presto no more problem, they would instantly transform into environmentalists – it’s in their name must be true??

There are definitions and meanings to all the terms that get thrown around, simplistic, uneducated, misinterpreted ideas of the tags just shows how little you understand of the topic. You certainly have strong beliefs; you just don’t know anything about the topic.

Here is a good site describing the start of Fascism in Italy – when you read it, try to understand that when you take communism to the extreme it becomes totalitarianism, when you take right wing politics to the extreme it becomes Fascism which is Totalitarianism. Extreme right and extreme left are both about state control. Incidentally, the Chicken Little’s should note that this is certainly not the path that the US is on, all you extremists on this site need to learn something and grow up.

          • Normal Guy
          • TIME

            No Norm,
I am not wrong – I know more about the Nazi’s that you will ever beging to grasp. I have studied world history from the 1840 – 1960 periods, thus when I say that there is {NO as in ZERO differance between Marxist and Nazi’s} I mean just that.

So what ever twisted rhetoric you have read or find on line is 100% total BS from stem to stern.
Most of whats on line is quoted from persons not unlike yourself – ones with “OPINIONS” with zero to support them.

This rather telling quote from Adolf Hitler says it all.
“Marxist are our brothers in our strugle, we are them, they are us.”
But in the case of building a strong united Germany – the common thread that Marxist have in Germany now are the Jew’s – so we must use them as our enemy, as the Jew’s are the enemy of the German people.
            From; My Strugle.

Its rather strange that you also never hear that the German Karl Marx was Jewish, and yet he hated Jew’s.
He was also in a group called the Thule Society, and yes its much older than 1880;s date tossed out there as when it started, it was really started in 1840, and the symbol used was the sun wheel swastika.
But why let fact get in the way of a good BS story.

          • Normal Guy

            Time

You are wrong. I was a history minor, took lots of macroeconomics as well and have traveled extensively in Europe and parts of the former Soviet Union speaking with friends and associates about the history of their countries, it is an interest of mine. First definitions – Fascism is ultra nationalism, the state first, everything subjugated to the state. Marxism is the middle labor class rising against the system in order to bring true equality to all and give all production and property to the community as a whole, giving more control to the masses as opposed to the individual. They are opposites.

You are completely wrong, your garbage concerning Thule, Swasticas etc blah blah… has nothing to do with these theories or the history. Site me any academic reference that verifies your position regarding Marxism and Fascism. One will do.

Ignorance and anger is a dangerous thing, it is what propagandists use to initiate the hate they require to move people to their extreme causes, this is why this site worries me; lots of ignorance, lots of anger, lots of hate based on extreme unsubstantiated viewpoints. Political science, political philosophy is not “online” it is academically defined, easy to learn about.

Oh and by the way your quote of Hitler is bogus here is a quote from Mein Kampf (which means my struggle not my plan by the way). Hitler thought that Marxism was the “world pest” democracies to weak to stop it.

“Only those credulous parliamentary wizards who represented bourgeois democracy could have believed that the brutal determination of those whose interest it is to spread the Marxist world-pest, of which they are the carriers, could for a moment, now or in the future, be held in check by the magical formulas of Western Parliamentarianism. Marxism will march shoulder to shoulder with democracy until it succeeds indirectly in securing for its own criminal purposes even the support of those whose minds are nationally orientated and whom Marxism strives to exterminate. But if the Marxists should one day come to believe that there was a danger that from this witch’s cauldron of our parliamentary democracy a majority vote might be concocted, which by reason of its numerical majority would be empowered to enact legislation and might use that power seriously to combat Marxism, then the whole parliamentarian hocus-pocus would be at an end. Instead of appealing to the democratic conscience, the standard bearers of the Red International would immediately send forth a furious rallying-cry among the proletarian masses and the ensuing fight would not take place in the sedate atmosphere of Parliament but in the factories and the streets. Then democracy would be annihilated forthwith. And what the intellectual prowess of the apostles who represented the people in Parliament had failed to accomplish would now be successfully carried out by the crow-bar and the sledge-hammer of the exasperated proletarian masses – just as in the autumn of 1918. At a blow they would awaken the bourgeois world to see the madness of thinking that the Jewish drive towards world-conquest can be effectually opposed by means of Western Democracy.”

denniso is a dipstick. You have to have read some of his/her other posts and you would know that. He has a left wing liberal agenda that he wants to hatch on all of us. In his eyes, the left can do no wrong, even though in reality, they take money from the working and give it to the lazy. They kill unborn babies in their mothers womb, and now have even stepped that up to where they are using our tax payer money to fund these abortions overseas for third world countries. They put gays on pedestals and promote butt bumping your buddy as normal, while kicking God out of schools, works, business and the government, and then while it all falls apart, they point the finger at Bush who has been gone well over a year now. Thats how these worthless immorals on the left see things. That is why they cant see it coming when their worthless butts are getting voted out of office in 2010 and 2012. Question is, how are they going to blame all their losses on Bush when this happens, because they can never accept responsibility for what they do. There always has to be someone to blame when your on the left like dumbnisso.

Fascism & Socialism are 2 rails of the same track. Glenn Beck actually described this very well recently – his delivery is often quirky, but I have to hand it to him when he hits the nail on the head (he does so regularly!)

Both push the State as the “solution”: oppression of the masses by the State. Oppression can come from either side, but they both have Marx as their source.

America WAS on a different track, but apparently we’ve decided government dictate, oppression & all-encompassing “rights” are want we prefer.

American idiots, you had GOLD & you haven’t even taken a sniff of the dung you just traded it for… WAIT until you do.

        • http://donthaveone Beberoni

You cant use Glenn Beck’s name when your trying to get things across to those on the left. You see, Glenn speaks the truth, and they just will not accept the truth no matter what, so they hate him, and reject everything he says. That is what you are dealing with, when trying to get things across to the liberal left. They dont want to hear the truth. They want nothing to do with it.

          • keith

            yep,could’nt have said it better!

Nazism is socialism taken to the nth degree. Think about it, to have a socialized society, governments must force the general population to comply. They take wealth by force to redistribute to those they deem desrving. Nazi’s do the same, use force and more. We are already a police state if you are willing to peak through the fog you will see this to be true. Our behaviour is almost totally regulated. Because this has happened under the guise of protection most people have not realized that their freedom of choice has been vastly diminished. We are in trouble, unless we wake up!

Jeff, I say to you one thing. BRILLIANT!

      • keith

        damn that was good!!!!!!!

    • http://Google Francis

I like reading your article a lot and for different reasons. A time in every nations history, serves that time’s purpose good or bad. And so can be said of Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

To compare the Canadian Health Care system to socialism is absurd and ignorant. There are provinces in the west of Canada, (just like the other person has said), that like to behave like American Right Wing but dare talk about taking away their health care and you’re in for a bloodied fight. with them. Right now, Canadians have a conservative government who will not talk about abolishing the health care system that they have. Are you suggesting that the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada a socialist party?

There should be a serious debate about a first rate country like the US, with the first rate medical technology, with a third world health system. This, I think is a national shame.

Canadians have an enviable, strong regulatory financial system in place which is the world which may be misinterpreted by Americans as a government takeover or control. The benefit of that is the opposite of the meltdown we have seen in the US.

For the US to come from the Clinton era with a budgetary surplus to become a beggar nation, needs some honest soul-searching.

And all this nonsense talk about socialists taking over; the US under eight years of conservative government started borrowing money from the communists. People need to wake-up and smell the coffee. You sold the country the day you borrowed money from China. By the way, that was not last year, and that was not by Obama either.

      FunF

If you think we had a budgetary surplus with Clinton, you need to look again. I mean, if you want to consider in the ramifications that he cut our military in half and intelligence in thirds, thus leading directly to 9-11, the next admin having to spend to bring the military and intelligence back up to snuff. The collapse of the banks, due to Bill Clintons so called American dream that everyone should have a house, even if the government has to back the bad bank loans to people who didnt have a prayer in the world of paying it back. If you believe in smoke and mirrors, you can buy that. But Ive studing this stuff, and really took a look at it, and this guy is still costing us today. Dont you be fooled by slick Willy for a moment. He made it appear to be balanced, but I assure you, it was far from it. Its called cooking the books. He mastered it, while at the same time trying to steal the furniture from the White House. Amazing isnt it.

Years ago, American Opinion magazine had an article on how Canada became communist. It is worth reading again today.

  • Jean-Marie Bergman

I an a happy Canadian, Pierre Elliot Trudeau has been a very effective moderniser of our country, notably by freeing the strong entrepreneurial spirit that emerges when people are free of health care expenses worries, or of quitting their jobs. We shoud soon be moving towards a guaranteed minimu icome and thus free an army of social workers to make some real money for us all. I free capitalism is to survive and all true liberals wish it to succeed, it must provide decent shock absorbers. This is someting which is understood in Canada, Western Europe Japan etc but apparently not by the Tea Parrty fringe in the great USA.

    • JC

You’re “French” Canadian aren’t you? A noticably socialist group at any rate. Western Canadians are a great deal different than Eastern. Like night and day as a matter of fact. Western Canadians still despise Trudeau to this day…
I know, I’m married to a girl from Alberta and have in laws there.
They are more conservative in nature than most Americans.

      • perry

Alberta is a fairy land with no army and thousands of miles of fortress America to protect its flanks. You don’t have the weight of war and armies. You are free to live in peace.

Your world view is a fantasy.

        • DaveH

          Talk about a simplistic statement.

        • JC

Now there’s a prize winning statement of simplicity, that makes no valid point whatever.

        • Lindy

Perry? Alberta doesn’t have an army? Like US states, Canadian provinces don’t have armies either. Canada has an army… and Hillary Clinton was just in Canada begging their army to stay in Afghanistan. Alberta is a “fairy land”? You sound pretty ungrateful considering “Fortress America” gets 50% of its oil from a “fairy land”.

          • JC

            Thank You Lindy.

      • Mike

        JC:

If you think that most Albertans are more conservative than most Americans, with all due respect buddy, you have no idea what you’re talking about! I live in Alberta and I don’t think based on your comment you’ve ever been to Canada, even though you’re married to a Canadian. The distortion on this website is unbelievable! The reason why the United States is bankrupt is the billions of dollars it spent and continues to spend in Iraq. That includes hiring private contractors for laundry, escorting their empty trucks up and down Iraq and charging them $25 a plate for food when the supply division of the Army could have done all of it for less than half the price. Dick Cheney is now spending the billions of dollars he made in his blind trust while he was VP with his interest in Halliburton/KBR. If anyone thinks that Obama is a socialist, they obviously haven’t read his books. Watch Canada recover faster and watch our dollar stay at par for the next year at minimum

        • JC

Mike I spent a few years living in Calgary before it became the dumping ground for Canada’s eastern provinces. How bad has it gotten now? I still go to Alberta to Hunt and Fish, so maybe I’m just familiar with a different part of Alberta society?

          • denniso

Mike…hi to Canada. You’re right, most of these people are so warped
in their political views it’s mind boggling. Obama is trying to save capitalism and bailing out the banks and they think he’s a socialist.
They make up all sorts of negative fantasies about Canada so that people who live there don’t even recognise it…they don’t know that Canada is doing better than we are because the banks there are highly controlled and regulated…our rightwing zealots have essentially lost their minds in their hatred for our black President. Are they all racist? No, but some definitely are and they can’t stand the idea
of Obama being our leader. Sad….

          • DaveH

What is mind boggling, Denniso, is that a person as ignorant as you feigns intelligence. We have a considerably higher per capita purchasing power than Canadians:
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

And I don’t think Mike wants you on his side with your caustic remarks. His comments are relatively factual, whether right or wrong, not the typical personal attacks we can expect from you.

          • JC

DaveH, just a head’s up – the Canadian dollar surpassed the greenback yesterday for a while and is maintainnig near parity. That doesn’t mean the Canadian dollar is stronger, but that it is losing the race to the bottom.

          • DaveH

            JC,
I had a co-worker who was on loan to a division in Canada. He was very Liberal, so he certainly wasn’t making a political statement, but he remarked that hardly anybody up there went out to eat (one of his favorite activities). Is it because they need to pinch pennies?

          • http://aol Don

I see the socialist countries have the highest per capita purchasing power.

          • JC

DaveH, Can’t say for sure on the penny pinching aspect. I do know that the cost of living is higher. It’s all relative somehow I’m sure.
On another note…Its pretty cold up there a good part of the year so perhaps people just don’t want to go out in the cold so much. I called winter there “caving season”. You get up in the dark, leave the cave to go to work, work all day (miss the sun) and then go home (back to your cave) in the dark. I know I didn’t feel like warming up the car again to go out anywhere.

          • Meteorlady

DaveH is right to an extent. I have very good friends in BC and Alberta. They hate the health care system if they have anything major. Two of my friends come here for treatment. I have talked with them about their economy and they say it is getting more and more expensive. They also say that they are paying more taxes and their wages are starting to go down. They were about 10 years ahead of us on the path to socialization but we are catching up and going over the top according to them.

Dave H, where did your co-workers get placed? Restaurants in the city I live in are packed! I eat in them, way too many times, I’m trying to save a bit of cash, but the girlfriend & I get bored easily

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Mike! The people on this website make me sick! Finally there is a voice of reason. Why is it that the rest of the world sees the light and not the conservative Republicans and tea party people. The Bush/Cheney administration were a self-gratifying, self-serving bunch of egotistical idiots. They were willing to put the security of the U.S. at risk to make a name for themselves in history as “protecting” . Their fabrication of the WMD facts to ellicit support for the Iraq war was a violation of implicit trust that any population would place in their president. I am glad that the Canadians and the rest of the world see President Obama as a valuable asset to our government.

          • denniso

DeeC…hey, don’t I get some thanks too? I’ve been arguing w/ these ranters off and on for 4 months or so…late at night, early A.M….putting work and family on hold to try and straighten these rightwingers out and speak some sanity.

          • JC

Depends who you talk to I guess. The Canadians I talk to are in lock and load mode as they wait and watch America imploding. The Canucks I talk too are stockpiling food, guns and ammunition…and see Obama as merely a passing curiosity who might take us all down.
But like I said….depends on who you talk to.

          • Greg M.

So why are you on a conservative web site if you don’t like the people who will more than likely be conservative? Why don’t you stay out of this web site and try the huffington post. I for one am tired of reading rants from ignorant people. It is, however, somewhat entertainging to read the thoughts of loons.

          • DaveH

If you think like I do, that conservatives advocate the kind of Freedom our forefathers did, than I am indeed conservative. But typically, people consider right-wingers, who may or may not advocate Freedom, as conservative. I am definitely not a right-winger.
And I agree with a previous commenter, Dee. Why are you hanging around here? Most of us believe in Freedom, which certainly isn’t a belief shared by Liberals who want to steal the hard-earned money of others and force their hair-brained schemes on others. Liberals are not nice people. You can see that in their comments, if your aren’t blinded by Liberal Zealotry.
We don’t talk about Bush because Bush is not the President. Get it? I would like nothing better than for you and your Liberal kind to go elsewhere, so the rest of us could carry on civil discussions.

        • Swansong

O good grief, Mike: Obama’s not Socialist, he’s a Marxist.

I think TOLERANCE for all people and all views of politics to peacefully co-exist with any race, creed or color is the best way to live. You are definitely missing the point when you say dissenting voices do not belong on this website. OUR country’s laws and

DaveH,Greg and DMP…What a bunch of crying babies…can’t handle a little debate? I think this site is run by Bob Livingston and he can decide who is allowed here or not. If we left you people here alone all you would do is have a big, hollow echo chamber w/ the same childish ranting and whining…we hate Obama,Obama is enslaving us,Obama is a fascist, communist, nazi, socialist,Kenyan…we hat liberals,we hate gays, we hate women w/ power,we hate France,we hate Canada,we love our big guns,we love Beck,we love Limbaugh…we hate everyone who doesn’t think exactly like us.

      • DaveH

And the best way to help those who deserve help is at the local level by people who know the needy and help the deserving ones voluntarily. Nobody I know would let a good person starve to death. But the antisocial people might have a tough time getting that help. Government Largesse allows those who don’t treat their fellow humans respectfully to thumb their noses at their unwilling benefactors (the taxpayers).

Socialist are splendid with other people money. They are ruining this country. People died every day to get in this country nobody wants to go to Cuba. That tells something. Never subestimate the stupidity of the people. This goverment is creating a Parasite population. It’s taking us to the cleaners. The out of control expending is not mainly Irag as must of the people think. What about the over 346 BILLIONS that taxpayers pay annually for Illegal Aliens. It’s hard to believe what’s going on in this country. What a nightmare.

          • TIME

            Mary,
Very good points, I have yet to find anyone who wants to leave and rush off to Cuba, or even China.
At best China is holding ground now only due to the “MONEY” factors at this point, but if that money stops – I fear for the people of China as they have had a taste of what its like again after near 70 years of repression, that by the way “failed.”

Keep in mind that the “hard line Marxist” still run China and are just waiting on an excuse to shoot down millions of people.

Also keep in mind that in China familys are alowed to have only one child.

This is also telling; A person making good money in China is someone making $45,000.00 + per year thats like someone here in the US making a half a million per year.

The average worker in China makes about $3900.00 per year, that equals someone in the US making around $55K+.

If your in the above average grouping making $6500.00 – $7500.00 plus per year, that equals a person in the US making $150K + per year.

We have so many fools on this sight that have never been out of their mommies basement or had a job, that is other than being a full time bone head its gets confusing to onlookers who are not clear about whats going on in the REAL world – outside clan BarryO’s shills.

Lets face it your sure not going to get any real info or news on MSN, MSNBC, or CBS, NBC, ABC, or CNN, HLN.
Why; they are all “CULT” followers of the special Clan BarryO.

Just look at the worthless excuses of alledged journalist who can’t ask BarryO any hard questions, or if they ask a question that BarryO avoids with spaz rhetoric, they let it pass like BarryO’s words fall from on high.

I love it when after one of the Buffoons from the DC Belt way speaks we have to have someone like Katie Q, (who if you ever met her would know she is a Nano Witt,) – tell us what was just said; as we are all so dam stupid we can’t figure it out.

You are so obviously a plant by Moveon.org or some other billionaire George Soros inspired anti-American, but you seem to have come to believe your own propaganda. You may be “Enlightened” in your own mind but you only show the shallowness of your thinking when like the Nazi’s in Germany you attack your opponents by accusing them of what you yourself are guilty of! Stooping to calling those who support the dumb ideas of people like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and John Adams (and such like riff-raff according to you) and saying that they are anti-American because they didn’t graduate from some elitist Eastern University shows you up for what you really are, not just a hypocrite, and an elitist, but a Fabian, and someone who doesn’t really like the United States of America because it isn’t truly Socialist. In the days of Lincoln you would have been imprisoned but anything goes nowadays and anyone can say anything, true of not.
Who was that radical who said, “Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called ‘the children of God’?” You would probably look down on him too. Americans are not so stupid as you and your ilk think and you are surely not attempting to create peace!

By the way, if you really view the likes of Gore, Biden and Jean-Marie as ‘intelligent,’ I’d like to know the name and address of your street vendor ‘pharmaceutical entreprenuer.’

At least we’re smart enough to KNOW that our country is being taken over by radical Progressives & are standing up expressing our rights of free speech (while we have them) & trying to prevent it. The Canadians evidently allowed it to happen. I have no concern how Canadians want to live, but this is NOT Canada. If you want to live in Socialism, you just go right ahead & move there & leave free Capitalist USA alone.

    • DaveH

      Sure Jean,
Socialism has worked so well for Cuba, USSR, China, Argentina, and Venezuela.
That’s a good one – People freed from healthcare worries are going to work harder and if you artificially raise their wages through the force of Government, they are going to work harder. Sure. I know of nobody personally, who has not milked any benefits such as unemployment benefits to the very end. People work less when guaranteed sustenance. That is a fact that has been proven throughout history. Only people who base their logic on Hopes and Dreams can think otherwise.

          • DaveH

There you go showing your Liberal ignorance Denniso. The GDP of China is about $7.1 trillion. The GDP of the United States is about $13.8 trillion. The population of China is 1330 million. The population of the United States is about 310 million. So with more than 4 times our population China creates about 1/2 of the gross domestic product that the US creates. Hardly comparable.

          • DaveH

Of course, if the ignorant Liberals lead us down the path that they desire, China may very well catch up with us.

      JMB,

I spent Easter with 4 couples from former Communist Poland, and they laugh at your nonsense. It’s a wonder they didn’t stay, based on your unfounded contrived statements! Come, again! I’m friends with a Dr. from Canada, and there is no doubt why he came here to practice brain surgery at UCLA! Seems there’s a shortage of brains where he’s from!

Enlightened, you are not! Being from a family that values hard work and no free lunch, I’m not following you! I’ve worked since I was 12, and have never taken Social programs by the hand! They work great for the vast 60% that would sit on their lazy arse, and the Facists that use it to grow their power! You are a pawn and an embarrassment to American values! Go back to where your ancestors once came, and enjoy the desperation they once felt! No one deserves it more than you!

I’m sure there are a few co opting this site! Why would you come here to debate, yet to try “divide and conquer” tactics! It’s becoming clearer by the day! Because, you are as unAmerican as fishsauce!

I don’t know who taught you to spell, but try using spell check next time. I don’t know how it is in Canada, but here this health care bill will be a disaster. $95.00 a month to opt out of it and pay up to $1200.00 a month to be on it, not having as good a coverage either. Did you know that it also hires another 16,000 new IRS agents to enforce the paying of these fees? There is also another section that covers creating a “Health Corps”. This will be sort of like a civilian paramilitary group designed to force people to do things on the program or force them to join. If the program in Canada is so good, as you say, why do so many of you come to the U.S. for medical treatments? Why is your government practically bankrupt because of its implimentation? If you can give me some good answers, along with sources to back it up, I would be amazed.

      • Lindy

Honest debate requires honesty. Both the Canadian and American systems offer excellent treatment and care and both systems have obvious short-comings. However, this debate isn’t about healthcare it’s about politics. That being said, there are two statements that that I don’t think are true…
        1. “…why do so many of you (Canadians)come to the U.S. for medical treatments?

“Unfortunately, this persuasive image of Canadian refugees survives in a virtual vacuum of evidence. How many Canadians actually head to the United States to seek medical care that they cannot obtain, or are unwilling to wait for, in Canada? What kinds of services do they receive? Where do they get these services, and how do they pay for them?”

“U.S. ambulatory facilities survey. Almost 40 percent of the facilities we surveyed reported treating no Canadians, while an additional 40 percent had seen fewer than ten patients (Exhibit 1 ). Fifteen percent of respondent sites reported treating 10–25 Canadian patients, and only about 5 percent reported seeing more than 25 during the previous year (generally 25–75 patients; none reported more than 100).”

        For the entire report… http://content.healthaffairs.org/cgi/content/long/21/3/19

Oh, by the way, one of my teammates got a pretty deep cut while playing in a hockey tournament in Hallock, Mn. He drove back to Canada for “free” stitches. Sure it’s anecdotal evidence, but it is contrary to your original statement.

I doubt you’ll “be amazed” but it is the information you’re looking for.

        2. The Canadian government might be running a deficit, but it’s NOT just because of Universal Healthcare.

Hey… the systems are different. But if you want my neighbourly view… I think Mr. Obama’s cure for whatever problems you have are worse than the sickness. Whatever the case… best of luck!

        • http://naver samurai

Well, if you don’t mind waiting for months just for something that is supposedly free ($95.00 to opt out and up to $1200.00 for coverage). I remember my father serving 32 years for this country and he always tols me the best way to get things is by earning them. This healthcare is unconstitutional and is a direct violation of the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. When are you goning to wake up and realize that it is illegal? There are more states filing with courts to stop it. I think Minnesota may file also. Just because some of you would rather get handouts and not be a good American. Remember we were built and preserved by people who refused things like this. We have to teach our younger people that they have to earn their right to be called an American and this means by hard work and paying for what you need. I hope that you realize that sometimes the best things aren’t free.

I will put our free market and our business success up against yours anyday pal. Anyday. Kind of like the Montreal Expos in baseball. They fared real well, as long as other teams were feeding them money to stay alive. Kind of like Obama care before the fact wasnt it. Your way of living pales in comparision to ours. Oh yeah, and if your medical is so great, Im just curious as one can be to know, just why people that live up there, come down here and pay out of their own pocket to have surgical procedures here, when its all free up there. Just exactly what is up with that? If it is so great, why does this happen again and again and again. Ive yet to have someone adequately explain to me that how something up there that is free is so great like SOME of you claim, yet thousands come down here and willingly pay for it. Someone is fooling themselves, is all I can see.

      • Yemez

Barbaroni you are one uniformed individual….for one thing, bringing the Montreal expos in on this proves you are daft when it comes to learning the world outside yours…as for rich canadians going south for treatment, well if you can afford it, why not?! But, what would you say to Americans who can’t afford healthcare or get denied coverage due to “pre-existing” conditions, try and get treatment in Canada? Sadly though, they get turned away because they don’t have a healthcard. As far as living standards go, well, I have a house with a mortgage, 2 vehicles, a blue pickett fence ( although I’m thinking of repinting, maybe a nice earthtone, but I digress) anyway, the Montreal expos lost fan support, it is too bad, they were a good team.

Why the confusion? Obummer is combining elements of Adolf, Fidel, Benito, Joseph, Mao, Karl, Woody Wilson and every other self-destructive, proven failure you care to name. That way, it’s not easy to pin down Obummer’s circus to just one single approach. His boldest supporters want us to believe that because he doesn’t claim to be a Nazi, a Socialist or a Communist, his plans must be as pure or innocent as the driven snow.
The great flaw in this is in his all-consuming obsession to make himself appear ‘innocent.’ If you’re the prez, innocent has nothing to do with it. Everything that happens when you’re in the White House will always be attached to YOU. Even HST had the presence of mind to proclaim that ‘the buck stops here.’ In Obummer’s paranoid world, he’ll take all the credit he can, but he utterly refuses to accept any blame (that’s why he relies on czars). That, in a nutshell, is how you properly define classic paranoid schizophrenia.
Who could possibly try to deny that Adolf, Fidel, Benito, Joseph, Mao, Karl, Woodhead Wilson and many other ‘special people’ would be so PROUD of Obummer and his schemes? Kinda brings a revolutionary tear to your eyes, doesn’t it?

    • Trensky

I think you really need to go back to school and reread your history books. If you feel that healthcare is more important than jobs, so be it. If you don’t mind paying money to the government just to stay off this program, so be it. If you don’t mind the IRS sending agents to your door or having this new “Health Corps” come banging on your door, so be it. I believe these programs are unconstitutional and are a direct violation of the 10th Amendment. Get a job and then you can get your own insurance with what you choose to be covered. Freedom of Choice? Ah, yes. Another right taken from us by “Osama” Obama!

RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE -STIMULUS SERMON

I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia a hug and a high five.
This guy is obviously a leader and not one of the sheep.
Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is….. It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it’s always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning,
and so eager to get into God’s Word. Turn with me in your Bibles,
if you will to the 47th chapter of Genesis, we’ll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?
….(reading)…Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray… So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt ,
and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them.
And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase,
and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock, their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey – to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year..

But the famine wasn’t over, was it? So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. “There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.” So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain. What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery?
    Yes.
That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

    Yes.

But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen…And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.” God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn’t end up giving all their possessions to possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one.

We see the same thing happening today – the government today wants to “share the wealth “once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago – as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama’s government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh’s government did then, and it will end the same.

And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a “Messiah,” don’t they?

    Is he a Messiah?

    A savior?

Didn’t the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh”?

Well, I tell you this, I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.

Bow with me in prayer, if you will.

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone.

We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be.

We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says “And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.

Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh’s government.

    In God We Trust…

You may consider sharing this with others.

If you don’t agree … just delete.

    Have a nice day.

      Very Good James.
But I don’t have to believe there is a God to know that respecting a person’s right to retain his/her own hard earned wealth is the correct road to prosperity. To do otherwise not only diminishes our morality, it also just doesn’t work.

I have seen this sermon show up on several sites over the past couple of weeks or so, and I agree with every word of it. Obama is worse than Trudeau ever thought about being. He is a would be dictator in the vein of Hitler and Stalin. All you have to do is look at his friends, associates, and all of his appointees. Take a further look at the legislation that has passed, and that which he wants to pass. He trashes the constitution every day he is in office.

    • DaveH

And, if given enough rope, those “beneficial” leaders would hang us with impugnity.

    • marvin

Jack well said YOU ARE KNOWN BY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP like putting union lawyers and union backer on the the dept of labor and a nut case as head of home land that said it is not illegal to be here undocumented

  • Glen

Pierre Eliot Trudeau was an educated, capable man who modernized Canada, a country now significantly ahead of the United States in health care and the management of its financial institutions (Canadian banks did not need one cent of federal money during the recent AMERICAN/WORLD financial collapse). However, as things stand, it will take generations, if ever, for the United States to gain equality with Canada in these important social activities. Indeed, Americans, on the average, have become less educated and less intelligent over the past decade or two, so our local prospects are not exactly sunny.

    • Richard Pawley

If that is true then why do Canadians still come to the USA for medical treatment (if they can afford it)? Otherwise they have to wait for months for treatment. Natasha Richardson, the late wife of actor Liam Neeson (who lives about 20 miles from here) would likely be alive today if she had had her minor accident last year in the USA where medical helicopters and CAT-SCANS are common, but where they are controlled and paid for by the government they are scarce. Of course in Canada where CAT-SCANS are rare for humans and take many weeks or months to get, a dog or cat can get one within 24 hours because customers pay for those! Evil capitalism will keep your pets alive but not your citizens! Why do so many Canadians along the border cross it into the USA when they really need a doctor? Will this new Marxist Health No-Care bill that just passed stop that and as a result some Canadians will just have to take their chances or die? I don’t know but I don’t want to count on layers and layers of bureautcrats for anything. My grandfather left Canada and moved to the US long ago as a child and while there are many wonderful people in Canada I for one am thankful that he did. The scenery in Canada is incredible but that doesn’t mean I want to emulate you in any way in regards to health. The proof that the Canadian peole are not all socialists is their renouncement of Code 51 in 2008, the UN mandated law which would have eliminated the freedom of a Canadian mother to choose vitamins and supplements to help her children unless the were approved by useless UN standards, with fines of $5 MILLION DOLLARS!
Sorry, but I like our freedoms here, and have no desire to copy what my Canadian cousins have to put up with. God save the Queen and all that!

      • Lindy

Dear Mr.Pawley… respectfully, your comment is totally without merit. Natasha Richardson died because she REFUSED medical attention. The paramedics that arrived on the scene were told they were not needed. It’s quite common with this type of injury, the victim feels fine, but is totally unaware of the extremely dangerous epidural hematoma that is occurring. By the time she started to feel the effects of her injury some three hours later and the fact she was over an hour away from Montreal complicated her situation, which eventually led to her death. Sadly, had she accepted the medical assistance when it was first offered, things may have turned out differently. The Canadian Healthcare system, whether it suits your politics or not, was NOT why Ms. Richardson’s died… she died because she wasn’t wearing a helmet.

By the way its “O Canada” not “God Save the Queen”.

        • libertytrain

You are right about her thinking she didn’t need assistance — she did what most of us would have done -

        • JC

You’re right about Natasha, Lindy. But Mr Pawley does make a good point….pets get quicker more efficient medical treatment in Canada because it is a private industry.

          • Landcruiser

            wrong again JC,

          • JC

            No I’m not.
See how that works…it’s automatic gamesaying.

          • Landcruiser

I haven’t run into a problem with our healthcare system that would compare to the vet’s office I bring my pets to…only the bill at the end, but you can’t put a price on healthcare, can you? WHich is all the more reason insurance companies in the States can jack the rates to unsustainable levels, or just blatenly deny coverage to them.

    • Cy Mallinson

      April 7, 2010

      Dear Glen -

Thank you for your comments on Prime Minister Trudeau. They bring up a couple questions that maybe you can answer.

First, you state that Canada is now “…. significantly ahead of the United States in health care ….” My understanding is that many Canadians come to the United States for various medical procedures. Do you have a body count on the number of Canadians who have come to the U.S. for medical care during the last 3 or 4 years? How about the number of Americans who have gone to Canada for treatment? Please let me know how to obtain these statistics.

Second, I understand that a senior Canadian political official, I believe the Prime Minister of Nova Soctia, recently went to Miami, Florida for medical treatment on his heart. Is my understanding correct? If I have this wrong please let me know.

With respect to your comment on United States “… management of its financial institutions …”. In 1977 the U.S. Congress passed the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). It was under this CRA umbrella that Congressman Barney Frank from Massachussets, Senator Christopher Dodd from Connecticut and others were believed to “strong arm” banks and other financial institutions into making home loans to people who did not meet the financial industry credit standards. Having been built into the financial system over more than a decade, these weak loans brought on the financial collapse. Do you know if any of this is true? Please bring me up to date.

One final point. You stated that “… Americans, on the average, have become less educated and less intelligent over the past decade …”. This can not possibly be true.

For decades now the vast majority of American school children have been educated through public school systems. Anybody who has studied the public school systems in America, especially in inner cities, knows the unsurpassed success they have had in preparing students for the requirements of life. If you have any information that conflicts with this, please let me know.

Best of luck to you Glen. cmallinson@aol.com

        Cy Mallinson
As I agree with most points you made I had to add…
Education in a whole has gone down. On a side note more females now attend than ever.
Japan and others are about to pass us in terms of education.
We put more people in prison today than we have college graduates.

        • DaveH

          AJ,
I think that was Cy’s point. Our educational standards have declined due to Public Schools.

          • Hugh Jordin

Our educational system has NOT declined because of public schools. Public schools have declined because our citizens have voted not to support them with adequate taxation and to keep teacher pay so low that many leave the profession after a few years. We are experiencing a cultural shift where education is not valued as it should be. This starts in the home with parental attitudes.

The culture of the worship of celebrity is another problem. The media spends more time focusing on celebrity scandals than on great scientific and cultural achievements.

Vouchers for private religious schools are not the answer. They will drain even more resources out of the public schools. If people choose to send their children to religious schools to study mythology, that is their decision and should not be paid for by tax dollars. Thomas Jefferson, one of our most brilliant founding fathers, believed that his greatest achievement was getting separation of church and state as one of the pillars of American society. (perhaps that is why the Taliban-like Texas school board is trying to write him out of text books and replace him with non-American fundamentalists like John Calvin).

Immigration reform is also critical to improve education. In some parts of Southern California class room sizes are over 40 students with an astonishingly high percentage of illegals. It drains the teachers and US students.

Great education is important for every member of society, whether you have kids or not. The US IS slipping behind in some areas and we have to be willing to put our wallets where our mouths are.

If one is TRULY conservative one should want to conserve what is most important to our country… our children. We need to create an environment and a system where their minds can grow and flourish and regain American leadership in creative innovation in all fields.

We hear a lot of talk about “an armed populace is a free populace.” Some truth here, but even more important, an educated populous is a free populace. It’s difficult for any government or group to pull the wool over people’s eyes if they know the difference between Shinola and the proverbial substance.

          • DaveH

Teacher pay is low? You could have fooled me.
            http://dcjobsource.com/teachersalaries.html
Keep in mind that they only work about 9 months each year.

The job is so popular that without teacher unions and other artificial market-defeating mechanisms their pay would indeed be low. But that is because there is more to any job than just the base salary. In a free market the applicants make the decision as to what is more important to them, big salaries or other benefits (both financial and mental). In an unfree market, they get both, thanks to the meddling of Government, and the taxpayer foots the bill. Personally, I would rather have my kids taught by somebody who just enjoys the job and isn’t focused on the money.

          • DaveH

And I don’t care if the religious schools teach mythology or not. It is a known fact that the private schools provide a better education than the public schools for less money.

Dear Mr. Mallinson… for the record I don’t agree with the tone of Glen’s post nor most of the facts in his post.

To answer your first question… please see my post earlier today at 6:05p.

About the Premier of Newfoundland, Danny Williams going to Miami for heart surgery… it’s all how you look at it. Have you ever been to Canada in February? Where would YOU rather be in February… on a rocky, cold, windswept island in the Atlantic Ocean or in Miami, Florida?

My guess is Premier Williams decision was based more on the ‘weather’, not ‘whether’ he could get better or faster service. (Wordplay intentional!)

        Visit the link…
        http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/02/23/canadian-health-care-survives-danny-williams-surgery/

As for the rest of the your questions about Glen’s post, I don’t share Glen’s “superiority complex” about US education standards or intelligence so I can’t (or won’t) go there.

        • http://naver samurai

I don’t see what does warmer weather have to do with having heart surgery? If he need an operation, why go to Florida? Probably because there was an available doctor who didn’t meet his monthly quotas of heart operations.

          • Lindy

Hey Samurai here’s a couple of points (for the whole article go to…

            http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/canada/100302/health-care-danny-williams?page=0,1

Williams was suffering from a leaky heart valve. He did not want a sternotomy, which would have required breaking bones to access the valve. For a less invasive procedure with a quicker recovery time, Williams sought out Dr. Joseph Lamelas at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.

Williams says Lamelas accessed his heart valve through an incision under his arm, a procedure known as the “Miami method.” The procedure is available in Canada, which has its share of world-renowned heart surgeons. But no one has done it anywhere near as often as Lamelas.
            Williams is rich.

Before entering politics, he sold his cable company for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Samurai… Danny Williams is a very rich Canadian, who can afford to travel to Miami to see the best surgeon in the world. Danny Williams also happens to own a condo in Sarasota. So he gets the best doctor in the world and gets to stay in his condo in Florida in February, avoiding the coldest part of a Canadian winter. Most Canadians take a winter vacation… he just happened to have surgery from the best doctor in the world (for that procedure) while he took his vacation. If you just want to ignore the big picture and just take a few facts out of context to make a political point… that’s fine with me, but you’re not fooling anyone.

      • Landcruiser

Well, one reason Americans don’t come to Canada for medical treatment is they don’t have a Healthcard that would enable them to get treatment. Another reason could be that the U.S has all there is for medical treatments, if you can afford it, if your insurance company covers it.

    • DaveH

Why, Glen, would we want to gain equality (whatever that is) with a country that lags significantly behind the United States in Per Capita Wealth? There is nothing Free about Socialism. The costs are just hidden from view:

There is nothing “FREE” anywhere on the planet earth.
That is unless you make {slaves} out of the persons who live in the place you get something FREE at.

The Middle class – thats low to high or persons who make between $100K – $1 Million per year, “they have been made slaves” of the state to support the entitlement crew’s.

You can’t be that stupid to believe anything else,
just as we all pay a TAX on our electric bills for people that are on that ENTITLEMENT crew,
We pay a TAX on our Phone bills for that same persons,
WE pay a TAX on our Water Bills for them,
For you that have Cable TV, You pay a TAX for these people too.
On your internet service you pay a TAX for them as well.

And on your Auto insurance you pay a TAX for them again!
And on your home owners insurance you pay a TAX for them yet again!
And on your property TAX your paying for them again!
And you pay a TAX if you buy gas for your car for them again.

And our special Government’s new HCR bill has a special TAX for them too.
And your state Income TAX has a special TAX that goes to pay for EBT cards.

Ok as my fingers get tired of the word TAX, the point is there is “nothing FREE,” the Middle class’s are paying for it all!

Oh and that VAT Tax that will also be to pay for as was stated by our Government a way of paying for all the “entitlement’s.” Thats their words not mine.

Ignorance is curable, Stupidity is fostered.

I have to hold on to what the word says, (HAVE I NOT COMMANDED THEE TO BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE, FOR THE LORD IS WITH THEE.) These events that are taking place can become very over whelming, but I, myself, have to focus on the Lord, and know that HE will not forsake his own. These events are truly the signs of the end of time as we see it. WE must pray and seek the Lords direction in these trouble times.

  • Richard Pawley

Early this morning I received an email from a distraught retired teacher in the Western part of the United States. In part she said, “The Commies who helped pass Health No-care have signed the death certificates for their grandparents. I guess useless, non-productive elderly are too big a drain on the national budget. Of course, the fact that it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL seems not to matter….no one can stop him and his gangster politicians. However…I have a tremendous, unwavering faith in God…” I encouraged her not to lose hope and reminded her that God was doing something to allow all this to happen. Perhaps He is reminding us that in a Republic we have the right to vote and to get rid of the deadwood and those who misrepresent us in the tarnished halls of Congress in the District of Corruption. I know some have compared Obama to Hitler and even I thought that was unfair but as I pointed out in one of my books Hitler called retired people, “useless eaters” and as an early progressive George Bernard Shaw believed that every five years or so each American should appear before a committee and justify their existence, prove that they were a plus to society and not a drain OR ELSE they would be exterminated, so we can only imagine the evil lurking in the dark hearts of those who Obama has surrounded himself with on the Hill. I understand Obama’s frustration with the insurance companies that dropped him mother when it got to expensive for them and there are some good parts to the bill that just passed but giving a healthy natural vitamin with a little bit of arsenic is not the way to go. I’d rather have nothing than be forced to take that. Are we like the Israelites in the desert who longed to go back to the slavery of Egypt in that we just want to do what they do in Germany, and the UK and Greece? Are we tired of being Americans and just want some benevolent dictator to take over for us and do what is right? I hope not? I do know that forcing those to buy insurance or any product from a business of any kind is un-American. I do not know the answer but I do know that every American who does not register and vote for November’s election will have silently agreed with the those who want to replace the Constitution with the ideas of the New World Order run by the owners of the Federal Reserve Banks of the world. “DESTROY THE DOLLAR, THEN ESTABLISH A ONE WORLD MONEY SYSTEM, THAN A ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. IMAGINE THE PROFIT!” seems to be their credo! Must we follow Ancient Rome to our doom, repeating all the mistakes she made, becoming so corrupt that we would rather fight foreign wars than protect our own country back home. Congress will not listen to us so they must be replaced come November or when government starts to seize more and more of what we earn there will be a tax revolt that will make the original tea party in Boston look like a Sunday picnic. If Congress is not replaced in November then it won’t make any difference who is elected in 2012, the damage will be done. Some believe it already has been as the 111th Congress has virtually bankrupted us. February’s deficit alone was more than the deficit from George Washington’s day until the end of World War II. Additionally, is anyone preparing for the Great Earthquake in Los Angeles in the next few months or will it be another Katrina times twenty! I do not believe that the God of Love wants to see the United States devolve into the dustbin of history, but we cannot continue to spit in his face, ignore his laws (which are for our own good) and then expect His help when we are being destroyed from within. May God bless the citizens of the United States. No one else is going to do so!

    • annnort

Good post and I agree. A few good people have fought him on the Hill. The rest must go. Be sure this time we know for whom we vote!

    • usmadgirl

      Richard Pawley,

Once again, you have hit the nail on the head, but what I’ve mentioned in many comments, I’m so concerned that we are NOT going to have the opportunity to vote or at the least have a legitimate vote in the November election. ACORN is still alive & well by another name! SEIU thugs will be out in full force along with Obama’s paid radicals & by then, maybe his well-funded, well-armed “National Security Force”. I don’t put ANYTHING past this criminal administration!

I know that amnesty for the illegal immigrants (burglars) is close at hand & unless we conservatives allow our pets to register to vote, I’m so afraid we don’t have a snowball’s change in Hades in ridding this country of the Progressive, America-destroying vermin in Congress – Democrats & Progressive Republicans. Look how far Scott Brown’s win got us! The win that was SUPPOSED to put a stop to the health care ruse!

I hate to sound like “Eeyore” or “Chicken Little”, but I figure if I’m pessimistic & things work out better than I expected, I’ll be happy & thankful, but if I’m optimistic & overly confident & things go to hell in a hand basket (as I see them now), I’ll be unprepared & devastated!

Everyone new what they where getting themselfs into when they elected Obama into ofiice now everyone get to live a life under a dictatership

    • Richard Pawley

But they weren’t listening. The media were so anti-Bush that they would have supported Castro or Chevez if they were running in 2008! Obama is just one man. I’m sure he loves his kids as much as you love yours, even if he is ruining their future. Don’t forget that he could not do a thing unless the 111th Congress went along with it. Of course Obama’s legacy in history will be a sad one but without the complicity of congress he could do nothing. No man is an angel or a devil – though some come close – and this republic hasn’t devolved into a terminal democracy so far. Without our non-representing representatives in congress Obama could no nothing. Someone in his administration wants the trials of terrorists in NYC and it is believed by some that this is wanted to inspire another attack on NYC so the administration can declare martial law. Obama has surrounded himself with Marxists, socialists, and communists and they have long affected his thinking. Americans seem to be waking up but if they don’t vote in November then they will be just as complicit as if they supported the Marxist take over of health care. Replacing Obama is a given, but unless the Progressives in congress are replaced nothing will change except the horrible inflation (MORE than 200%) that is coming as a result of congressional trashing of the dollar and spending of money we can’t even borrow anymore. The ancient Chinese curse was, “May you live in interesting times” and the next few years are going to be among the most interesting in the history of the United States! DUM SPIRO SPERO!

      • American Citizen

That’s what I’ve been saying, the real power lies with Congress. The present Congress, though, is implementing everything Obama wants. Our only recourse is to vote them all out come November.

        • Richard Pawley

Yes! November is our big chance and perhaps even our last one, to save our sinking ship of state. Was it Mark Twain or Will Ropers who said, “No man’s purse is safe while Congress is in session!” By the way, I have many sources and the vast majority all seem to be saying that everyone needs to have at least a month or more supply of food, water, and everything else you use, on hand at all times. Of course, this is only sound thinking and with food prices continuing to climb and the government insisting that there is no inflation, well, just remember, that money is only worth what you can buy with it and there is no telling what fast ones the 111th Congress is going to try to put over on us in the last seven months of their tenure.

I don’t believe that everyone who voted for Obama knew what they were getting. Far too many voted for him because of his “CHANGE” mantra and the color of his skin. They didn’t ask what he meant by change, but those of us who have a little wisdom and really listened to everything he said and saw the people he associated with, knew him for what he is and didn’t vote for him. Hopefully, a lot of them are waking up and will vote the incumbents out this November as well as Obama in ’12.

“The NEP was set up to remedy spiraling oil costs for Canadians by forcing oil companies operating in Western Canada to sell their petroleum at a discount to the Eastern provinces”.

Isn’t it just like Government to first create inflation with their loose monetary policies and then point the finger at Oil Companies or other businesses. Quite a cushy arrangement Government has, given that most voters are ignorant on the subject of economics.

Price inflation is not the oil companies’ faults or any other producer’s fault. It is simply a monetary matter. Too many dollars created to chase too few goods.

As Milton Freidman said “Only government can take perfectly good paper, cover it with perfectly good ink and make the combination worthless”

Big Government is the Problem, Not the Solution!

    • JC

I’m surprised at the accuracy of your observation as regards the NEP in Canada Dave. It was a socialist wealth redistribution scheme.

      • Normal Guy

        JC

Again commenting on things you clearly know nothing about. The NEP was a complete injustice but it had nothing to do with socialism.

The eastern provinces where the majority of the Canadian population is had for years` refused to buy Alberta oil as the price to build the pipelines would have made the cost higher than the cost of buying cheap foreign oil. When the oil crisis hit Alberta said no problem we will just start charging international prices and reap the rewards of having world prices rise. The federal government decided that it was in the national interests of Canad to nationalize a large portion of the industry and force Alberta subsidize Quebec and Ontario who would not support the industry before the crisis.

This had nothing to do with socialism, if anything it was about supporting big business interests but more likely just about politicians taking care of the interests that get them elected.

        • JC

I see. A socialist is describing a socialist who implemented a socialist policy…but nothing socialist was going on and if there was, it was the fault of greedy capitalists.
And the “eastern provinces” REFUSED to buy Alberta Oil? Really? Alberta then as now sells oil at competitive world rates so where did the eastern provices get the oil they refused to buy from Alberta?
I call BULL! Prove that on any level.
Trudeau was an avowed communist who saw dollars for government and expanded that Federal government into Provincial Government jurisdiction in order to “share the wealth”.
It set something of a precedent in canada as mineral wealth had always been the purview of the Provinces. It was an outrage.
It was also hugely unfriendly to US interests who had come in and developed the oil fields, they were sent packing and it took years to rebuild the economy of Alberta. You won’t find an oil or cattleman over 40 in Alberta that doesn’t spit at the very mention of the playboy communist.

          From Wikipedia:

The NEP was introduced in the wake of the energy crises of the 1970s. Because of high oil prices, several economic problems that were beginning to manifest themselves through the 1970s were accelerated and magnified. Inflation was out of control and interest rates were through the roof. Unemployment was epidemic in the eastern provinces where the Trudeau government had much of its political support.[1] The NEP was designed to promote oil self-sufficiency for Canada, maintain the oil supply, particularly for the industrial base in eastern Canada, promote Canadian ownership of the energy industry, promote lower prices, promote exploration for oil in Canada, promote alternative energy sources, and increase government revenues from oil sales through a variety of taxes and agreements.[2] The NEP’s Petroleum Gas Revenue Tax (PGRT) instituted a double-taxation mechanism that did not apply to other commodities, such as gold and copper (see “Program details” item (c), below). The program would “… redistribute revenue from the [oil] industry and lessen the cost of oil for Eastern Canada…” in an attempt to insulate the Canadian economy from the shock of rising global oil prices[3] (see “Program details” item (a), below). By keeping domestic oil prices below world market prices, the NEP was essentially mandating provincial generosity and subsidizing all Canadian consumers of fuel, primarily at Alberta’s expense.[4]

ERGO: Trudeau needed political support and money for his voting bloc.

Well done Normal Mouthpiece you’re a proven reactionary once again.

          • Normal Guy

            JC

Your attachment proves my point – oil prices and politics? can’t you read or is it just a comprehension issue?

As I said, it is not about Socialism it is about the eastern Canadian production base having access to cheap oil, about the Liberals getting re-elected and about taking Control of strategic resources at the federal level.

The NEP had nothing to do with socialism, everything to do with business and politics. Like I said. It was also a blow to the US as we had always had open access to Alberta oil. When Trudeau made it a strategic asset access was restricted, still a big issue, China now wants to buy all the Tar Sands production and are in fact in the process of contracting so that a pipeline can be built to Kitimatt BC to ship oil to Asia.

For decades Alberta had pushed for a pipeline to the Ontario and Quebec Markets. They refused to do this because the cost of the pipeline would drive costs above what they paid to Venezuela, the middle east etc. When the NEP was brought in Albertans said about the eastern Canadians, “let them freeze in the dark” I agreed with that statement and still do. If the eastern Canadians had created access to the resource it was available, they chose not to and instead taxed Alberta to reduce the cost across the nation. Again JC you dope this has absolutely nothing to do with socialism, it was all about business and politics in eastern Canada.

I live here in Washington state pretty close to the Canadian border and have seen Canadians coming here since the late 70′s .Just as an example they came here to buy milk( among many other things ) milk in Canada in the 80′s was as much as $6.00 a gallon, give or take depending on where you lived. They’ve been coming here for everything from food to health care. We ain’t seen nothing yet people it’s only going to get worse and worse.

And a word to all you marxist, social libs, if this free health care, obama and his GANG has introduced is so DARN GOOD then why do people who live in Canada with the same kind of FREE health care come here, because it really ain’t free and it really ain’t good.

  • USED TO BE A LIBERAL

Obama cannot be compared to Trudeau, although there are some similarities in background, it ends there. This so-called Health Care Bill in the U S has very little to do with health care, and far more to do with the subjugation, and control of the American people. This U S health care bill with suffocate business, and the entrepreneur, it will take control of every aspect of American life, rights, and freedoms. It will be used to circumvent the constitution, and has already been used in end run plays around the constitution, since being signed by his Highness, The great Messiah, Obama, the boom box.

This so-called Health Care Bill, if it were anything like what Canada has, wouldn’t have been put together in secret, passage would not have to be forced, bribes would not have been needed, a few thousand pages it would not have taken, illegals would not have been covered, etc, etc, etc.

No health care system is perfect, there are horror stories that can be found in every system. In Canada for every single horror story a person can find 10 good ones, and since the U S population is 10 times greater then Canada’s, well do the math.

The only thing that can really be called “socialism” in Canada, is their health care, other then that, take the time make the effort, and look at the very close similarities, as to laws and social programs that were in place before Obama. Obama has gone way overboard, and needs to be stopped. He will, if allowed to continue, make Canada look like a safe haven for non socialists, non commies, non Marxists, non fascists. He will make European style socialism, look like capitalism.

Obama’s style of “rule” can better be compared to that of Stalin, Castro, Chavez, and a few other despot dictators, and I won’t leave out Hitler, because if you look closely at the health care system of Nazi Germany, you will unfortunately find far more similarities with that one then with any other.

Look it up, before you “bash” me, it is there, in print, compare. As a matter of fact look up all the programs and policies. Leave out the war, and the genocide, but look hard at everything else that was under the Nazi regime, and remember the Nazi Party was a left wing party, it was The National Socialist Democratic Party of Germany.

Here you will find the likes of Acorn, the use of Unions, until he outlawed them, the take over of education, environmental laws, and programs, the famous peoples car, and government control over bussiness/the economy, etc. Oh by the way, he was the first world leader to condemn smoking, he wouldn’t allow it in his presence, and he wanted to outlaw it, but believe it or not the only reason he didn’t was because he thought it might push people over the edge, besides, the income was too good, and it also kept health care costs down, as there was no treatment for cancer patients, they just were given some pills for pain, and were allowed to die. The mentally ill just disappeared, as did the physically disabled from birth on up.

The only agenda these rightwingers have is to finish the Job of destroying America that George W.Bush didn’t finish….of course in the name of Jesus…. I remember Bush ran as a fiscally conservative Christian republican… and we know how that workedout …These are the same people that fell allover themselves supporting Bush..As the economy keeps improving watch the rightwing hate rise…anything good for America is bad for the rightwing.. These are also the same people who never let out a peep when Bush was trashing the constitution and bill of rights… These are the same people who thought outting a Cia agent was good… These people also support waterboarding prisoners which is aginst our law as well as international law.. When Bush broke the FISA law on wiretaps… Not a word from them about tyranny or socialism… The rightwing is morally corrupt…

The pot calling the kettle black. Do you think your sweeping generalizations carry any weight with intelligent readers? I am not real fond of Republicans, but the Democrats make them look like Saints. Talk about lack of morality, the Democrats think nothing of stealing the hard-earned money of the real workers in the US. And they think nothing of forcing their ill-conceived policies down the throats of good people. There is nothing even remotely moral about the Democrat Leadership.
While I vote for Libertarians, the only party that champions free choice and voluntary contracts, I would not vote for a Democrat if somebody put a gun to my head. And no doubt, someday that will come true if the freedom-hating Democrats succeed in their takeover of our country.

To all you people asking about Canadians going to America for medical reasons, I can tell you right now that this is one Canadian that you don’t have to worry about. You guys make it sound like we have very sub par care in Canada. But it’s really not that bad. I mean just think about it, you go into the hospital with a broken arm and you don’t have to pay $ 10 000 to get it fixed, in fact it’s free. Pretty sweet eh? Look Obama’s plan is probably gonna bankrupt you guys and that sucks but don’t start pointing fingers at us because your plan won’t work. I have an idea ; get rid of the government and lobbyists and insurance company menage a trois ( that’s french for threesome ) and let capitalism and the free markets take care of your health care debacle and you will be way better off.

    • laura

People don’t cross the boarder because they have a broken arm, they cross because they need life saving surgery that they can not get in Canada. And that is a fact,I’ve seen it myself. The only reason more Canadians do not come over is because they can’t afford it. So they wait in their lines for their heart surgeries and transplants hoping they’ll make it before it’s to late. We don’t “point” fingers at Canadians we sympathize with them.

      GOD BLESS
      laura

      • Kay

Laura, please do some research and know the facts before you spout off about Canadian healthcare. There is no waiting list for life threatening conditions. yes, people do wait for surgery like hip or knee replacement but not for life threatening things like hreat or cancer. and just as many Americians get their healthcare in Canada as Canadians in the US. I worked in a border city hospital for 25 years and saw Americans everyday.

        • laura

Really hip replacement isn’t serious, well tell that to a person who’s bed ridden and uses a wheel chair for their second mode of transportation AND HAS TO WAIT FOR SURGERY or is on so many pain killers they can’t eat, so they lose 35 lbs. The only reason Americans where using your doctors and or hospitals was because they were on your side of the boarder.
          GOD BLESS

    • DaveH

No Chris, your broken arm is not repaired for free. You just don’t see the costs. But I forgive you because your last sentence is Spot On!

“one” . . . . PET rode his motorcycle through the streets of Montreal during WWII wearing a German Helmet and clutching his Communist Party membership card. PET was certainly intelligent, no question, but like the Bumster a confirmed marxist. He brought masive deficit spending to Canada in the 70′s,rolled out the army for 8 or 10 terrorists in 71, gave us “multiculturalism” and massive 3rd world immigration to de-anglicise Canada. I disliked the man when I first met him in 68 . . . felt the same way when I watched the Bumster a few years ago.

If we want out Constitutional form of government to survive, it’s time the American people wake up before it’s too late. Liberals and Democrats think we get our news and views from Beck, Hannity and limbaugh, when in actuality, all we have to do is listen to Obama, Reid and Pelosi to know what is going on. Obama lies every time he open his mouth, Pelosi is good at calling names and Reid is a jack—. It just takes an open mind and the wisdom of years to see where this country is headed.

Ironic that the first reply should mention nazi-socialism. Known fact that during the second world war, Trudeau rode around on his motorcycle wearing nazi regalia. This during a time when stalwart young Canadians were giving their all fighting the nazis in Europe. Even with this Canadians were made to feel guilty for the demise of french in North America that they embrassed Trudeau and Quebec to their sorrow. Canada it seems will never recover from the Trudeaumania for the nanny state is in full bloom except for Alberta where exists a well established movement for independence.

    • http://www.chandostransport@eastlink.ca Graeme B

Hey Bob, even the Pope was a Hitler Youth and look where that has got him today.!! Trudeau gave Canadians a sense of pride for being Canadian and it wasn’t him who introduced health care in Canada, it was Tommy Douglas, a Baptist minister, who brought it in Saskatchewan.
I’m absolutely flabbergasted by the comments here. Most people who live in Albeta are right wing and do not represent the vast majority of Canadians regarding social issues.
Can you imagine what it is like to pay a sales tax ( as most people do) and not have to worry about $1000 to 1400 per month premiums. Can you imagine what it is like to get essential health care coverage and not have to worry that someone is going to tell you that a pre-condition precludes them from coverage. That what socialism does for you.
Don’t forget that Trudeau also opened the doors of diplomacy with China and Nixon followed suit a year later. Trudeau brought strong controls in the banking sector which has Canada currently having a GDP of 4%. Australia, another socialist state is in even better fiscal shape with unemployment at 5%. The current government under Harper (from Alberta) has sucessfully spent Canada from 10 years of surpluses to the largest deficits in Canadian history. He is trying to outdo his hero, GWB. Hasn’t suceeded yet as GWB has left the US in one terrible fiscal mess.

If all you watch is Fox you have an incredibly warped view of what reality is in the world. When I watch that channel, I sit there in total disbelief at the lies and BS that is spouted as truth and fact. An ad for the American Gas Assoc. says that we have all the gas we need in North America. What the ad didn’t say was that 50% of the gas in the US is imported from socialist Canada.

You will notice, or maybe you haven’t, that the call for repeal of the Healthcare act hasn’t mentioned repealing the death panels??? I wonder where they disappeared to, where have the party of “Hell No” gone with all fearmongering and lies??

      • JC

So which is worse? A system of government / insurance company cronyism or system of straight up socialism? The government does not have any business whatever in the medical business…none! And none of my relatives in Alberta have a one good thing about Trudeau except “good riddance”.

        • Landcruiser

Did you know that Trudeau once passing through Alberta on a train gave the finger to some demonstrators? And their response was throwing eggs & tomatoes at his car, that was brilliant! Trudeau’s agenda was to illegitemise English Canada, with multiculturalism & bilignualism except for ‘le belle province’ it all stems back to the 1700′s when the English beat the French on the Plains of Abraham, and hence the Quebec lic.plate “je me souviens”–”I remember”. that’s my 2 cents on Trudeau, truthfully though, I was too young to understand politics during the Trudeau years.

          • Normal Guy

            Land

You are right about the finger but it was in BC, Salmon Arm, not Alberta. He also said “fuddle Duddle” in the House of Commons, a very arrogant man.

Trudeau was certainly not my favorite but he was a powerful personality. Grew the bureaucracy in Canada tremendously – pandered to Quebec and alienated the west. I think that he was a dreadful Prime Minister, but a brilliant politician.

          • JC

Wow, Normal…that was actually a reasonable observation. Had something different for breakfast?

    • JC

Bob, Aklberta is notable for it history of complete upsets of existing governments. Always opting for the new, more conservative government. Presently they have an up and coming party known as the Wild Rose Alliance that is advocating a more pro-business smaller government. Never in Alberta’s history has anew party grown so quickly. Sign of the times?

I have been told that it is a good idea to not let my children have a social security number. I was told that they could decide when they turn 18 if they want one. They are 10 and 8 now and I have not had any trouble with them not having one yet. Is this a good thing? Tell me your thoughts on it.

    • JeffH

Scotty M., get them their SS number and cards. There is still a lot of great things about this country to look forward to. We are just in the midst of a social revolution and a corrupt government leadership that needs to be reined in quite a bit. Outside influences, evil regimes and Americas own corruption from within and around the world have put Americans in somewhat of a catch 22 position.
It isn’t the end of the world or America yet. There is still time to save her. History will prove that.

  • Yvan

It’s simply amazing what ignorance does to people. What about my cousins that lost his house in Atlanta due to the American Way. Yes $180,000 for a treatment of back problem. After the first operation his insurance was cancelled due to what they call an omission on the application. They will find any excuses not to pay. In the States You believe so much in your free enterprises that you can’t no longer see the forest for the trees. Reagan was the ultimate puppet for the Multi Nationals. He basically destroyed everything that was good about the USA. As far are Canadians going in your Country for health treatment, this is pure propaganda and totally exaggerated by your Medias. There is more and more middle class Americans moving in our Country because of the fairness of our systems. That is totally camouflage and nobody would dare talking about it. Now you are blaming Obama for the Republican mistakes. Iraq has basically bankrupted the good old USA. Your beautiful free enterprises have killed all the jobs and you seem so proud of that. Good luck to you and God bless. Watch Canada for the next ten years.

    • JeffH

Thanks so much for your well thought out rant about America. Hope all is well in the north country. There are quite a few things in Canada I would like to experience before I die. Living there isn’t one of them though, no offense meant to Canadians or Canada.

No worries JeffH… I love the States, nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there. (Actually just visited the States a couple of weekends ago. It was the American way that got your cousin a house in the first place it was the communist way that made him lose it,and for that I’m very sorry. Now as far as emigrating is concerned I checked into the laws of emigration there in Canada they don’t just let any joe-smoe in ,because there’s no money in it. You have to be very well educated, like they said a bachelors degree in the arts or a doctor, lawyer something of that nature.
Oh and one more thing there are no mistakes about defending your country.
What’s gonna happen in Canada in the next ten years, milk will be $12.00 a gallon and cigarettes will be $20’00 a pack to pay for that FREE health care you have.

          • laura

I believe it’s a systematic seizure of our rights. And someday that might include the right to own a home. Fraud is right-Claire.
            GOD BLESS

          • JC

Damned straight it’s systematic. And your right to own a home is fine until the government or one of it’s buddies takes an interest in your property. Then you’ll see just what your rights really are.

          • http://Don'thaveone Sally

JC you are so correct. Don’t pay your property taxes and see what happens – don’t pay your federal taxes and see what happens with your property – and what about eminant domain!!!!!! A friend of mine was a layer on an eminant domain case in Lousianne. A farmer had many many acres of land and on that land was a special sand that is wonderful for levies. After Katrina the state wanted to buy the land so they would have plenty of that particular sand, the farmer said, I will sell you the sand at the going rate of whatever it was, the State said no, we will only pay x which was about 10% of what it was worth, well it went to court – the State won, and then went to appeals that is where my friend the attorney came into play, during the appeal process, the State sent in surveyors to survey the land that the State was taking over, love this farmer, the farmer ran them off with his shot gun – the attorney handling the appeals said he could no longer represent the farmer because if the farmer taking the law into his own hands. What a country!!!!!!!!

      • Landcruiser

errr, Laura I don’t see your point….milk costing $12 a gallon? I don’t think so, we don’t import milk. for cigarettes, well why not $20 a pack? Cigarettes are proven that it causes cancer & death, healthcare isn’t free, we pay in taxes, so if you’re gonna smoke, you’re gonna pay….that’s not a trample on freedom of choice, that’s consequences.

        • JC

So do you force fat people onto a diet too?
          Mandatory exercise for loafers?
Do Canadians generally feel it their duty to make choices for others?
Is that why your country is so openly socialist? Because you all work together in your task of social engineering?

Just curious based on your rationalle.

          • Landcruiser

not really a sense of “duty” more along the lines of using the healthcare system because your irresponsiblity to smoke in the first place….maybe we’ll call it ‘accountability’ but in a universal healthcare system, it isn’t free….I pay enough taxes, into a system that I support. Obesity, although is in a lot of cases, heriditary, may be difficult to force a diet on, (we’re not mean spirited up here)

          • Landcruiser

come to think of it, what’s it called if you’re denied coverage because you’re fat, a sense of duty to wean off the weak?

Yvan…. Very honest and accurate post..Keep in mind that these rightwing radicals hate every country on the planet including America so don’t be offended… The radical right is a small minority here…. They just make a lot of noise , like children having a tantrum because they didn’t get their way in our last election..

      • JeffH

        Eo, just a couple of comments I disagree with;
        1. Yvan’s comments may have been honest, but not accurate
        2. ” The radical right is a small minority here” correct, but the conservatives are right and they are the “majority here”
Your enlightenment come from a book, who’s author was a Radical Marxist known as Saul Alinsky aka Uncle Saul

      • DaveH

Accurate? Somebody else should pay his medical bills? Somebody who may be struggling even more, but you want them to carry his weight as well as their own? You have no idea how hard any individual works and what burdens they carry, yet you callously want to share the fruits of their labor without their permission.
To give your own money is charitable. To give someone else’s money is theft, that is all.
And above all, Socialism doesn’t even work, as absent rewards for hard work, people slack off and produce less (much less). Then everybody suffers, like in Cuba. But the Liberal thieves are so narrowly focused on sharing the money of others that they can’t take the blindfold off long enough to see reality.

      • JC

Wrong. Conservatives just hate communists like you who want to control everyone and everything. Evil creatures that you are.

In Canada, it wouldn’t have made any difference. He would have been covered. Can you imagine not having to wonder if you are covered after paying out $16000 in premiums per year?/

        • JC

And his choices would be A) Wait in line until it’s too late or B) Go to another country for treatment. Which is what many Canadians do.

          • Landcruiser

Actually there JC, not that many Canadians opt to get treatment in another country, only when there is a specialist available for their condition that there is no specialist for, mostly because it’s so rare that the odds of having a specialized specialist isn’t necessary, Canada is a small country, don’t forget.

          • JC

Canada is a huge country with a relatively small poulation.
My uinderstanding is that linue ups for MRI’s, Joint Replacements, Cataract Surgeries are 6 to 8 months long. And that the occurrences of misdiagnosis are quite high. I understand there is quite a market in Pakistan for Canadians needing kidney replacements and same in Mexico for Dentistry.
This is just off the top of my head…with a little research I’m sure I can back it up.

My point LC is that it’s just not up to the government to be involved in my health care choices nor force me to pay for someone else’s.
If you disagree, that’s your privelege. In the US we’ve traditionally held dear something we call Liberty, the ability tpo guide your own life…something I believe is worth fighting for.

          • Landcruiser

I got your point JC, still though, doesn’t convince me that healthcare should be put into the hands of rich CEO’s…insurance companies are not in the business of insuring you, they gamble on you not getting sick. Just like car insurance, it’s a gamble that you don’t get into an accident, and look at how they pick a claim apart. As far as waiting lists for simple things like that, I’d like to see something that states that as fact. My niece was born with her hip not connected properly in the socket, and upon obersvation by a hip specialist, recommended wait til she’s past 6 months old to see if it does develop, well it did, but not 100% so she got surgery to correct it, and is fine to this day….and they didn’t put her on a waiting list. One of my mother’s friends had been diagnosed with cataracts, and was operated on almost immediatly…..I got an MRI done within a week.

          • Landcruiser

What’s more JC, is you never hear about 3rd world children coming to Canada for major surgery, like separating cojoined twins, or one story of a Phillipino boy who had a goyter the size of “15 tire on the side of his neck that was brought to Canada for its removal. Kidney replacement in Pakistan? I don’t think so….Dental work isn’t covered in Canada by universal healthcare, you need employer benefits for that, or pay out of pocket. My brother is a self employed contractor, he had to get Blue Cross coverage for stuff like dental, vision & LTI for him & his family, all not covered by Canadian Healthcare. Not everything is covered, certainly abortions are not covered.

Good posts. I just have one comment to make about education.

Before liberals took over education in America, we had the highest achievement in the world. Everyone was literate. Bright students from all over the world wanted to come here and get their education. Being intelligent and excellence in performance was encouraged and admired.

When the liberals got control, the dumbing down began. Achievers were ridiculed and the “cool” kids were the slackers. Mediocrity became the rule of the day, and standards were set at the lowest common denominator. Can’t have “smart” kis making the low-achievers feel bad.

Intelligence and achievement are no longer valued, nor are morals, ethics, honor, truth…or even life. Communism (disguised as liberalism) has derailed our system that once stood for excellence, and gave us, instead, a decaying, entitlement-minded, pleasure-seeking, covetous, deceitful and disrespectful mob.

  • kate8

The left never ceases to spew their hateful rants, calling the right the hateful ones.

It boils down to one thing. Conservatives want to be left alone by government, to be able to live their lives as they see fit. They are happy to let others do the same. They are also generous and charitable, and always willing to give a leg up to someone willing to work. They value goodness, excellence, honor and achievement, and believe everyone should be allowed to reach their highest potential.

Liberals, on the other hand, always seek to control everyone in every way, force their ways on everyone through legislation, confiscation
and any other means of oppression they can think of. They want to limit speech, ideas and all forms of expression that differ from their own, and ultimately seek to eliminate all opposition to them.
They do not believe in freedom, accountability or human sovereignty.
They seek to bring about a perverse “fairness” by pushing those who
excel, limiting achievement, and controlling society through endless laws and regulations which control every aspect of life. In essence,
    slavery.

One is for liberty, the other, tyranny. It’s that simple.

The mining disaster this country just witnessed is a good example of the way these rightwing anti goverment, anti union , anti regulation mindset has for America…the mines Ceo was fined over and over for unsafe conditions, he didn’t care, he called the people”greenies ” that fought for regulations… This was a Non union mine.. He ( Blakenship) called the fines” the cost of doing business”…this is just more proof the right has no value for human life…. It’s all about the mighty dollar to the rich on the right….and they use people like these on this site to promote their anti worker agenda…Blankenship should be charged with murder…and ever mine in America should be subject to regulation and if not they should be closed…. The samething happened to our economy…. Deregulation , greed killed our economy…they’re aginst abortion?… It’s an act… Just like their morality and patriotism is an act…

    • JeffH

Eo, why wasn’t the mine shut down until it was safe? You know very well that there are government rules and regulations to deal with the kind of excessive violations that have been commonplace with this mine and this company.
Hmmmm, maybe somebody in a government agency was paid a little extra to ignore the violations? Hmmm, maybe it was some whiney liberal that made the decision? Hmmmm maybe it was an overly educated Alinsky student that was too stupid to realize the excessivness of violations that seemed commonplace for this mine? Hmmm, maybe it was a left leaning Democrat that determined the mine should continue to stay open and operate? Hmmm, maybe it was a RINO.
Hmmm, maybe the Emlightened one isn’t so enlightened afterall!

Jeff… I realize you aren’t very bright….. But Blankenship paid the fines , then just went back to business and called the fines ” the cost of doing business”.. It may be over your head to comprehend …and Jeff, most the fines went back in time during the last administration….

        • JeffH

Thanks for the brilliant clarification. A corrupt government is a corrupt government no matter which administration it is, socialist Democrats or socialist Republican. You ignorance just surrounds your comments, no matter what twist you put on it. Wrong is stil spelled w-r-o-n-g!

          • JeffH

            You, meaning your, meaning Eo.

        • DaveH

And you are bright, Enlightened One? I’m sorry, but your self-assessment of intelligence isn’t supported by your comments. An intelligent person can just state the facts without engaging in personal attacks.

And the facts in the mining incident are that nobody put a gun to those miners’ heads to force them to work in unsafe conditions. On the other hand, you Liberals do want to force people to do things they don’t want to do, as well as taking away their hard-earned money.

There is nothing noble or intelligent about stealing other peoples’ money or forcing them to do things they don’t want to do.

    • JeffH

Eo, this one is just for you. Guess who penned it?

“If your(liberal)organization is too tiny even for noise, stink up the place.”
Sounds like a stinkin’ liberal to me!

    • Grizz

EO, enlighten your self with a copy of the MSHA rules and regulations by getting a copy of Title 30 and read throuh it. Every mine in America is goverened by this.
Arrest the CEO and charge him with murder …. I don’t agree. Have you ever spent any time around a mine, I think not! You have no clue!

    • angel-wanna-be

Enlightened One, Just how safe do you want a mining job to be?___ain’t no guarantees on anything bud!!!__ If your not smart enough to know that a mining job is quite a risky, dangerous job, then you need your head examined. You can only drill ungeround for so long before something will eventually happen, it’s just a matter of time. Miners and theirfamilies know the dangers of it. You Liberals want it regulated to the point of closing the the mines period. Then when all mining shut down, you’ll simply move on and regulate something else to death you thinks a risk!

  • kate8

Interesting…a lefty lecturing on the value of human life. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And morality. LOL.

Brings to mind things like being forced to fund abortions, mandatory abortions, partial-birth abortions, euthanasia, death panels…..

Accidents are tragic, and horrifying. But to blame this on the right
is absurd. Leftists are responsible for the genocide of millions and millions in the name of idiology, systematic murder for the “sake of
    the collective”.

    Please, spare me.

    • DaveH

      Kate,
Your comments are so clear-headed. Glad to have you on the site.

  • Enlightened one

Kate…. Of course your anti education…. You want bible education taught in public schools… But of course you don’t want to pay taxes to fund public schools so why should anyone care what you think should be taught in school….education goes aginst being an ignorant rightwinger.. So naturally you hate teachers… Unless they teach about talking snakes and magic apples…. Give your silly religious education at home…. It doesn’t belong in public schools

    • annnort

You are sick, EO. Either an Acorn or an Seiu. Making money sitting home posting!

    • DaveH

For one who has the nerve to criticize the spelling of others, you sure could use some spell-checking and grammar-checking, Unenlightened One.

    • http://naver samurai

“Morals, ethics, and religion shall be taught in American schools now and forever more.” The Northwest Ordinance of 1789. Signed by President Washington. Look it up! You may learn that your wrong in your assessment.

    • JC

You really are a piece of work EO. I have a thought for you…”Public Schools” don’t belong in public schools. They are just little liberal factories anymore and turn out control freak morons like you.

    • angel-wanna-be

Enlightened One, Our religion worked fine for us in schools until your kind came along?!?

  • Enlightened one

Like you rightys really cared about all those Iraqi children you had murdered… Don’t even waste that rightwing anti abortion nonsense on me…. Your neither moral or patriotic … That’s why you sit in these rightwing sites trying to convince eachother you have a moral highground… It’s hogwash..

    • http://naver samurai

Have you been to Iraq or at least had the BALLS to enlist in the military? Take it from someone who spent 2 years there, its not pretty at times. What you said about us taking out Iraqi children is a very ignorant statement. My platoon and I (I was an E7) would go out and we may have to fire at people, but we were recognized by the division commander at the time, for not having any collateral damage statistics. We killed no innocent ones. I made sure of it. You understand, traitor? Coward?

    • libertytrain

Englightened One —Your comment was sick. Not too bright —-

    • JC

Yep, a new low even for EO.

    • angel-wanna-be

Enlightened One, by whom were you enlightened????

  • Enlightened one

You want to teach that religious nonsense then fund your own schools and stay away from public schools that you despise funding …

    • JeffH

Shame on you, ut what can we expect from the Enlightened one, a dedicated and stout student of the Alinsky teachings. Just for the record and to help understand why Enlightened one would make such a statement, you have to delve into his study of Alinsky’s teachings.

Alinsky made a dedication in his Rules for Radicals opening page- Dedication

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history… the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”

      • American Citizen

The kingdom Lucifer won is called “Hell” and that’s what it will be here if the so-called progressives get total control of this country.

    • DaveH

The facts are Ignorant One, that they do pay for Public Schools through their taxes and then, if they want to send their kids to a religious school, they have to pay again.
And religious schools teach the children better and for less money:
      http://www.mackinac.org/article.aspx?ID=1118

    • JC

Fine. And can the working people stop paying for the Liberal loafers and their kids to get their indoctrination too?

  • Rusty

Just so we’re clear. Canada is not under martial law. Quebec was for a very, very brief period. That act forced the FLQ to move from using violence to politics. Quite the success.

Incidentally, a the Herritage Foundation, a conservative think tank recently claimed that Canada is more free than the US. And that’s after Trudeau, AND we have universal healthcare.

    http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking.aspx

    Go figure.

Oh yeah, and if you haven’t read the paper lately, our dollar is currently at par the the greenback.

    • DaveH

      Yep,
We’re sinking fast. Soon Chile will surpass us.

      • Landcruiser

commodities have quite a bit to the loonie’s increase in value rather than the devaluing of the greenback

        • JC

So trading is more active in Toronto than New York…it’s a false barometer and is a true indication of nothing …nothing real that is.

  • kate8

Wow. EO, now you’re psychic! And all I know about you is what you put on display! Enlightened? LOL.

You, I suppose, think the elimination of basic academics and the pushing of the leftist social engineering is the right way to go.

You leftists are the ONLY ones I ever see talking hate. I don’t hate anyone. I disagree with some, but hate is a tool of the left. In America we once had the right to our own opinions. Before you guys took over.

Here’s an idea. Why don’t you guys who love communism all get together and pool your OWN resources and do your OWN thing, and leave the rest of us the heck alone. Your viscious attacks only show you for what you are.

We are on to your Alinski tactics, so give it a rest.

    • JeffH

God, I love it when a plan comes together.

  • kate8

And btw, EO, I never once mentioned religion, but you couldn’t resist
the opportunity to spew your intolerance of Christians. My, my, my.

You leftists are a joke. Or you would be, if you weren’t so dangerous.

    • annnort

It shows that alot of the leftiests are muslims. Guess you could include atheists. They are about the only 2 groups that hate Christians and Jews.

      • DaveH

        Annort,
Please spare me the generalizations. I am athiest, and I don’t hate Christians. In fact, I allow them much more Freedom than many of them would allow me. I respect the fact that most religious people are making an honest effort to respect their fellow human beings, but I do think it would be better if they could just let others make their own mistakes with their own bodies and property.
Lecture them, Yes. Control them, No.

For those who love Freedom, Responsibility, Free Markets, and Limited Government there is the Libertarian Party:
        http://libertarianparty.org/platform

      • MikeC

As an Athiest and former Christian, I take note! You lost me with Lefties being muslims. Stick to the facts! Morality goes beyond religous borders, as humanity reigns! Do remember, I do have the unalienable right to choose my beliefs, and for that, I defend the Constitution! As for this false Left/Right paradigm, I ain’t buyin’! Both are puppets, and it seems as though you’re a few elections behind in figuring this out! So, keep fighting each other, and the awaken will clean up your mess!

  • kate8

I’m sure EO, AmLib, and the rest are all on the Osurper’s payroll.
They probably work from the same office. Acorn, SEIU.

The left obviously finds these websites a threat. Too much truth and
    reason.

    • JC

I’m sure that’s right Kate. But they are mildly amusing and they give us the opportunity to make them look like what they are…idiots.
I say bring it on and give em hell kate! :)

      • JeffH

You can go to other blogs and the leftist liberal mantra is so scripted and similar it becomes obvious where they get their “talking points” from. I’m so glad that I can make my own comments without being told what I have to say. Then again, I’m(we)aren’t part of any flock.

  • Enlightened one

The Death panels?… Don’t you know?.. The Death panels are only for Christians and rightwingers…right now the rightys are taking up way to much space and air…

    • MikeC

Enlightened, you’re not! You’re no more enlightened than a snake realizing it’s eating it’s own tail. Eat away!

    • DaveH

There you go! Honesty from a Liberal!
I guess we don’t need the One to tell us that (given the reality of the history of socialist purges), but it is refreshing to see him admit that Liberals would like to eliminate all who disagree with them.

    • laura

YEP, THERE’S YOUR TRUE COLORS. Like most of your cronies.

      GOD BLESS

      • laura

Dont ferget to spel chekk mee !!!!!!!

    • JC

Keep waving your Obama button and smiling like a good commie. We’ll want to know who all of you when we renact the Constitution. We’ll be giving away free tickets to Kenya for you and your messiah. And not taking them won’t be an option. Smile and wave EO smile and wave…

  • kate8

    EO, your hatred is showing.

  • Enlightened one

It makes sense .. Anybody that believes in talking snakes and magic apples must believe in death panels too..

    • JC

Hitting the bong extra hard today?

  • kate8

That is exactly the kind of rhetoric that has always ended in genocide.

You are so concerned about the deaths of Iraqis, but work toward the killing of your own countrymen.

I do not believe in the murder of anyone. Not even you, EO.

  • Enlightened one

I’m laughing that their are people so stupid as to believe the healthcare bill has death panels…. To believe that takes some major stupidity….

    • DaveH

And I’m laughing at the Ignorant One who takes the phrase “death panels” literally. Of course the Healthcare Bill does not call them “death panels”, but it does set up procedures whereby government officials determine who gets precious health resources. And those decisions can very well result in the death of the patient. Oh, but Liberals care about people. Sure! EO gave up that fascade in an earlier comment.

      • Enlightened one

Dave…. Let’s try this… Email, Rush, Hannity,Beck….and ask them what section of the bill contains anything that calls for anyones death before their natural life ends…. …… My God how can people be so dumb….aren’t you capable of being embarressed by the crazy things you believe?…if it doesn’t say ” Death panels” then what does it say?…. Here’s a better question::Who told you the healthcare bill had Death panels or any panel that decides when your time to die is?…….. Give me a name..

        • DaveH

You’re arguing semantics, Unenlightened One. There is no portion of the bill that calls for anyone’s death. But they do have the power to withhold treatment. What happens if you withhold food from a dependant person? Duh. The argument could go that you aren’t actively killing them, but the result is the same.

That very thing happened in the Ukraine when the USSR took over:
          http://www.rense.com/general11/holo.htm

          • DaveH

And remember, Obama assured us that his administration was going to be a ‘Transparent’ administration. We see how that went.

    • Claire

Enlightened One– You may be laughing now, but what are you going to do when you are faced with the reality of this so-called death panel? Do you really know the real truth about all this? If you do, explain it to me. I want to hear.

    • JC

It has government bureaucracy. That’s close enough to a death panel.
Hitler’s Health Care Plan….called the old people of Germany who could no longer work…”Gobblers of Bread”. What do you suppose Maobama will call pensioners here?

  • kate8

Methinks thou dost protest too much…..

  • Julian

For your edification I think you guys should ask a Canadian if they would like to get rid of their socialist heath care system in favour of the American system (the old one or the new one). I would be stunned if you had anyone say they were in favour of that proposition.

    • DaveH

I talked to a pair of Canadians last summer while camping. They told me a story about how a company was attempting to set up a pay-for-care clinic in their province. The Socialists were trying to get it stopped, because they didn’t think it right that some people would be able to pay for better care than others. Ah, the wonderful politics of envy.

      • JC

Exactly Dave. It’s a childishness that we all saw in the sandbox…”It’s not Fair”. Grow up and work to accomplish your goals.
Get off your childish government loving dependant ass and do something with yourself besides whining….(yes we can yes we can)

    • JC

Great choices…both are non functional. How about a system with ZERO government involvement?

  • kate8

Liberals only “care for” people to the extent that those “cared for” are useful to furthering their agenda.

Those who are a hindrance to them are targeted for ridicule and marginalization and, ultimately, elimination. And when a group is
no longer politically useful, they get the same fate.

For liberals, it’s all about power – theirs. They are tools of evil
    and are incapable of compassion.

    • denniso

kate…you’re out of your mind and apparently totally hopeless when it comes to reasoning above the 6th grade level…pathetic.

    • JC

Absolutely correct Kate. That’s how Communist bureaucracy works.

  • Palin12

“You Picked a Fine Time to Lead Us, Barack”….

QUESTION::…To anybody with enough backbone to answer…. WHO TOLD YOU THE HEALTHCARE BILL HAS A SECTION THAT HAS A PROVISION THAT CALLS FOR ANYONE TO BE PUT TO DEATH BEFORE YOUR NATURAL LIFE ENDS…….and where is it in the bill…. Let’s findout who the liars are.. Ok…Kate , how about you answering the question too…. Let’s get this settled… I want to expose just how stupid you rightwing conservatives are….

    • American Citizen

The bill doesn’t specifically say you would be put to death deliberately (unless you’re in your mother’s womb). What will happen is rationed care and doctors not taking Medicare patients. If you’re elderly, you may or may not get the care you need as the bureaucrats can say you’re too old for the knee replacement or heart stents, etc., as they need the money to take care of the young who are more productive.

      • denniso

        You’re utterly wrong….

        • American Citizen

I’m glad you trust bureaucrats to decide if you need care or not instead of your doctor.

          • JC

A horrifying thought isn’t it? And it’s coming to a hospital near you…

    • American Citizen

As they say unenlightened one, the devil is in the details. Those 166,000 bureaucrats will interpret the bill any way they please.

    • DaveH

Oh, Unintelligent One, ask yourself this: Who controls the purse strings under the Healthcare Bill? This is an easy one, even you and Denniso can figure it out. And what happens when the purse runs short? And it will, as with all Government programs. Who will decide how the limited financial resources will get spent? It wouldn’t be Government Panels would it? No, it will be the tooth fairy!
You Liberals are nauseatingly ignorant. Which explains why you need to lust after other peoples’ money.

      • laura

        Dave ,
enlightened one has been renamed “DIM BULB” by a wise veteran…..
        gotta luv it!!!!!!!!!!!
        GOD BLESS

        • DaveH

          Laura,
Pardon my frustration, but I have tried every which way to explain why there would be “Government Death Panels”, but still EO just didn’t get it. The only thing these guys seem to get is when I talk to them on their level (name-calling, ridicule, condescension). It’s like debating with 8th graders.

          • laura

            Dave-
the only reason EO(DIM BULB)and others like him even come on these sights, is to start fights. They love it because they can say big words and act like big shots(their 30 seconds of fame).Trying to reason with them is useless and time consuming, although sometimes entertaining because they’re so laughable. I like coming on this sight in particular because MOST of the people are intelligent and easy to talk to, such as yourself.

GOD BLESS- will you spell check me-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

          • denniso

No Laura,we come here to see firsthand how far off the edge you people are. We also think there is a snowballs chance in hell of getting a few of the less insane to listen to logic and maybe start thinking on their own.

DaveH thinks there will be death panels w/ the new bill…why haven’t there been death panels for medicaid and medicare yet? Those programs have been around for decades, run by the gov’t, we’re in a huge recession and we still don’t see death panels…what gives DaveH??
Where are the death panels? A figment of your sad imagination…

          • DaveH

There goes Denniso, trying to give another pathetic comment. Sorry, unlike you, Denniso, when I see a car coming while I’m crossing the street, I don’t assume it will stop for me. I think ahead. Unlike you, Denniso, I read between the lines.

            Lines
            Denniso is an ignorant Liberal

    • JC

“Older people might have to deal with end of life issues” ~ BHO

What a compassionate guy…suggesting that you might be better off dying even though you could live a few more years.
Makes sense though…can’t pay taxes? costing us money? Bye Bye and thanks for coming out…

  • kate8

I believe DaveH answered this question very well in a previous post, EO.

Pay attention. You might learn something.

  • kate8

And BTW, EO, this is the very last time I’m going to respond to your rude and demeaning posts.

I realize that your tactic is to put us on the defensive. The truth
is, I couldn’t care less what you think. Liberals, as a rule, don’t
think rationally, so any attempt at conversation is a waste of time.
Your extreme immaturity and decidedly unenlightened, disrespectful
approach are not worthy of attention, let alone a response.

    Have a nice day.

    • denniso

Liberals don’t think rationally??? Wow! Palin screams ‘death panels’ and all of you echo it immediately w/o thinking once about the issue.
The bill would only pay doctors to consult w/ aging patients about end of life issues, when previously they weren’t reimbursed.
The rightwing is nothing if not simplistic and reactionary..simple.

      • American Citizen

Maybe because we know what’s in the bill. Have you read all 2700 pages? Mind boggling.

      • DaveH

        Denniso,
History is littered with the bodies of civilizations that, after achieving greatness, became lazy and decadent. The same direction that you ignorant Liberals are heading us.
And your people know that several European countries are on the verge of collapse right now, which explains why the big rush to implement the policies before people can witness firsthand where Socialism leads.
There are only two classes of people that could embrace such obviously flawed and immoral policies: Those feeding at the trough, and those whose Hopes and Dreams have clouded their judgement to the point of total ignorance.

        • denniso

Am Cit…so you’re reactionary and simplistic because you’ve read the entire healthcare bill? You’ve never read 2700 pages of anything, let alone the bill…you’re fibbing.

      • JC

Actually she pointed out an ugly truth and I don’t think she was screaming. Maybe take a more rational look at it. ;)

  • American Citizen

Enlightened One, do you read the replies to your posts? If you do, you’re not learning much.

  • Enlightened one

American… Sure I read your replys…. You remind of children with an unlimited supply of sugar….

    • American Citizen

Actually, EO, you liberals have a hard lesson to learn.

& 4% tax on home sales.
    & 159 new agencies

  • Enlightened one

Do you know what I foundout today?.. The owner of the mine that had the horrible disaster is a member of the tea Party and donated a million dollars to the radical anti American , anti Goverment domestic terrorist organization…. His name is Blankenship…. He was fined but never made the mine safe… The workers say that the owner of Massy mines knew the mines wernt safe….. Blankenship said ” fines are just part of doing business “…he should be arrested… And since he was warned numerous time about unsafe conditions he deserves life behind bars…

    • denniso

Just another good Repub American…money before life and family. I agree, he should go to jail for life for murder. These rightwingers will probably want to crown him as a tea party leader.

      • denniso

What a callous and asinine remark…people have died a horrible death in that mine and you call them stupid. Coal miners typically come from multi generational lines of miners in communities where those are the best jobs to provide for their families…sometimes the only jobs. I guess we can see now how lacking in any human compassion you are and if that’s typical for your libertarian party,I think you can count a lot of people out…shame on you!!!

        • JeffH

Oh dennisso, you can drop your “holier than thou” charade anytime. We ain’t buyin into your stupidity anymore.
You and your buddies are the most callous and insensitive individuals on here!

          • denniso

I am apparently holier than you and DaveH,if you think it’s OK to call dead miners ‘stupid’…miners who slave away at one of the hardest jobs there is to provide you fatheads w/ electricity to run your laptops so you can call people names and demonize others…you guys are both sick people.

          • JeffH

I think both of you like minded idiots should start a petition and ask Bob Livingston to toss DaveH right off this site. This is the old coal miner. What Dave said was not only cold bloodied and it shows no human qualities at all.Denniso,I think Bob Livinston should remove this low life from the thread and tell him his comments are no longer welcome. All decent left wing and people from the right should ask Mr.Livingston to remove DaveH from the thread. If they had a good union, those men would have been alive.450 violations,I didn’t see how it kept going, with out a major calamity. You see what happens when Scabs like Cheney and George night crawler Bush left in charge. You got 30 innocent hard working men dead.A tragedy that could have been avoided. What DaveH said makes no sense at all.If no one works in the mines, who is going to supply the energy we need.Unions are needed now.People’s rights and safety comes first.

          • denniso

Coal…hey there. I agree that Livingston should either scold and warn DaveH or ban him outright from the site…he’s pathetic and I encourage all here w/ any civility at all to join in the effort to ban him and anyone else who shows such inhuman coldness…I hope someone is paying attention.

          • JC

So you don’t think charges of criminal negligence causing death are in order? You feel that a “union” is the answer…you tell em Kamrade…you tell the world. Me, I’d rather see a system of justice and moral responsibility in place.

          • denniso

Of course the owners of the mine should be charged w/ the deaths of the miners, but it doesn’t happen and it won’t again…w/o a strong union to advocate for the workers and gov’t safety regs, the miners are at the mercy of the owners. The only other option would be if there were other good jobs that could out compete for the miners
            employment. That also seldom occurs.

          • Claire

JVC– I believe the owners of this coal mine should be held accountable for the deaths of these men, union or no union. It is the principle of the situation. This massacre was totally uncalled for. They prefered to pay the fines instead of providing safe working conditions for these men. As far as I am concerned they killed these men. Now these families are without fathers, husbands, and sons, etc. This company should pay the ultimate price for causing these deaths or be closed down. There is no excuse for this tragedy.

          • Claire

This post was for JC — somehow I got a “V” in there.

          • libertytrain

You’re right let’s have Bob start a list to censor folks we don’t agree with and then we can start burning books -

          • coal miner

            Coal miner,

            I meant blooded.

        • JC

Exactly. They chose to work in an unsafe environment, sad but true.

          • Claire

If they chose to work in unsafe conditions, it was no doubt because they needed the job!! They needed the money to support their families. Somestimes a person does what they have to do to earn a living. It does not make this tragedy acceptable. In this situation I hold the owners responsible — totally.

          • JC

Agreed Claire, the owners are responsible for the conditions. But no matter how badly I need a job, I won’t risk leaving my family alone by taking risky work. Move or whatever you have to do…but keep yourself safe.

  • Lindy

Mr. Myers obviously dislikes Pierre Trudeau, and his bias has lead to a very obvious distortion of the facts.

Mr. Meyers wrote “When Trudeau took office in 1968 the Canadian dollar was selling at par with its U.S. counterpart. By the time Trudeau left office in 1984 the Canadian dollar was selling for just 70 cents U.S. That was the Canadian dollar’s first significant devaluation in a century.
In fact, during the Trudeau years the Canadian dollar lost more than half of its purchasing power. Canadians got healthcare, but not one of them could say it was free.”

To be historically truthful, the Canadian Dollar was trading at par or slightly above par in the mid-70s, long after Canada got its healthcare. If you want to try to peg the “dollar’s first significant devaluation in a century” to a single factor, it would be the 1977 election of a separatist party in the Province of Quebec. The markets tend to get squeamish when a country looks like it might break apart. The possibility of a country losing a large part of its population and possibly a civil war will devaluate any currency in a hurry. Canada’s economy has always been based on its resources and losing Quebec which represents over half a million square miles (or one-sixth of Canada) and all of that province’s natural resources would be why the Canadian dollar was devalued… Pierre Trudeau’s healthcare system had very little to do with it. By the way, Canada was also in a recession in 1984… something else Mr. Meyers forgot to mention.

    • denniso

Thanks for the smart and factual comment…these rightwingers are infamous for distorting history for their own devious purposes. Not
surprisingly,we can’t believe anything at all they ever say or ‘quote’…

    • http://www.chandostransport@eastlink.ca Graeme B

Lindy, you are 100% correct. It’s amazing how you can take facts and make them fit your bias. Canada also has recognized Cuba, thanks to Trudeau, and Canada does trade with that country.
Trudeau was also not understood by his own people, he was always 10 to 15 years ahead of the thinking in the country. He was appreciated and respected in the rest of the world as a progressive and forward thinking leader. And he was a leader, unlike some other politicians.

I’m still waiting though for the “Hell No” party the ask for the repeal of the death panels!!

  • kate8

Just one thing, JLC. I don’t think they teach civics in high school
anymore. And it would be too dangerous to the liberal agenda to have
    kids reading the Constitution.

These kids have no idea what it actually means to be an American.
They, in their extreme ignorance, call US anti-American. And, of
course, anti-government. They are right about one thing. Most of us
are anti this anti-American government. It desecrates everything
this nation ever stood for, and many shed blood for.

Our founders are surely rolling in their graves.

    • JLC

Hi Kate8 — Is that why we are having so many earthquakes lately? Our ancestors rolling in their graves? I had Civics in the eighth grade, and had to pass a test on the constitution as a requirement for graduation. And this, in California, of all places. How things have changed!!!!

  • Jose

CANADA is one of the best country in the World…USA is not the best country in the World.

    • American Citizen

You’re free to move up there.

    • JC

I’d pick Canada over Mexico for sure…but until the last hope is gone…I’ll work to better the US and return to the Constituion. Oh and Jose? If you’re on your way to Canada…don’t forget to bring the long underwear. You’ll need them while standing in line to see a Doctor if you can find one.

      • Landcruiser

Nah, that’s bullcarp. I have access to my doctor on a day’s notice…or a walk in clinic around the corner from my place…actually within a 5 minute drive perimeter, 4 clinics AND my doctor’s office…but long underwear IS a must, if you’re planning on working outdoors, it can get a tad chilly

        • JC

I have family in Calgary that can not find a family Doctor…at all. And there are line ups at the community clinics where the Doctors degrees are often from banana republics.

          • Landcruiser

I moved to Calgary 8 years ago, and found a family physician right away. The doctors at walk in clinics are doctors, whether they’re from Angola or the Congo, they’re still doctors…they can’t practice until they get their (whatever it is, degree or doctorate, or..) they don’t just get off the boat & start practicing.

  • kate8

Yes, California has definitely changed, JLC. I studied both history
and civics all the way through high school. We also studied what
brought about the demise of other cultures, and how despots rose to
power. Valuable information, as history unlearned is history repeated.

We also had to be literate in order to graduate. That, apparently, is also no longer a requirement.

Communists began targeting our youth in the ’60′s, and those are the
leftists wreaking havoc on our counry today. And today, schools are
turning out kids who are undereducated, indoctrinated and without
the ability to understand all sides of an issue. Basically, their
humanity has been degraded, and they have been used to undermine us
from within. It’s very much like Stockholm’s syndrome.

  • Normal Guy

My god you right wingers on this site must all be completely incapable of prospering in the real world. All this irrational garbage about death panels, about communist plots against our youth, chips inserted. You people can’t be this naive. You can’t think that this country is on a path to some totalitarian or communist state. Get out and interact with normal Americans, we are a great people, this Millenial generation is brilliant, informed, powerful communicators and somewhat idealistic. Our future is in good hands, do you really hate our children?

There are huge opportunities, the USA has taken a big hit, the country needs to adapt to the realities of the global marketplace and we have to get off our butts and compete. The 16% of GDP spent on healthcare (that is $2,4 trillion) is way out of line, it should be about 11% thats $1.6 trillion

The idea that care can be suspended – that the elderly would be denied care is completely ridiculous. First doctors are required under the Hippocratic Oath ask any doctor if they would provide care – they would never deny care unless there is a DNR request from the patient. If a non life threatening procedure is required the patient always has the option of paying for the service, this is a component of the USA system that is better than Canada’s. In Canada you have a single tier system, which is in my opinion less than ideal, everyone is covered and that is good, but I think if the patient wants to pay for additional services they should have that option, in the US they do.

Anyhow, all you extreme right wingers should get over the paranoid rhetoric and get into reality. The US is a great nation, Obama is not a problem, and he is not a Marxist, a Nazi, Socialist etc.

He was chosen by the people of America, in the process – an election – that was created by our founding fathers. The federal system that, Madison, Jefferson established and which Alexander Hamilton interpreted – writing half of the federalist papers – has worked brilliantly. Since the start of this nation there has been controversy. There are countless options to participate in the process, stop whimning and work within this great structure to effect the changes you want, if you are not successful, get over it!

Obama is doing what he said he would do, the US is just catching up to the rest of the world in regard to infrastructure, if health care costs come into alignment with the rest of the world at about 11% of GDP or lower we will save $800 billion a year.

    • Tom

      Normal Guy,
I think everyone here can agree theres much wrong with America.
One problem in particular is the way people REACT to news without bothering to think things through.

A favorite tactic of both the left and the right, is to use labels.

Socialist, communist, racist, terrorist, ect. Once the enemy is labeled, the intent is to discredit.

President Obama has been labeled a socialist for this exact reason. Whether he is, or he isn’t I do not really know, nor is that my point.
My point is labels are used as a way to discredit.

Glenn Beck, as much as I love the guy, just came out with a list, “Proving” pres Obama is a socialist. And although Obama is obviously a left leaning idealist, I am not convinced he is a socialist.

Reasons given are Obama’s health care plan. It was supposed to be a reform. I see no reforms. What I do see is a massive expansion of not only government, but of those covered by health plans. I see a wider market for doctors and Pharma. I also see new definitions of what constitutes high blood pressure and cholesteral, also expanding the market for big pharma, allowing more and more people to become eligible for medication.

Is this socialist? No, I think its corruption.

Another reason, President Obama’s “Government Takeover” of GM and Chrysler. This one pisses me off. The federal government did not go out and seize these companies. The Bozo’s who ran those companies into the ground came hat in hand to the federal government looking for a massive WELFARE HANDOUT.
Not saying the government knows how to run a car company better than the car companies, but considering how these clowns ran their companies….
The fed had every right to insist on some changes if they granted the bailout.

Example: If my brother came to me, hat in hand and said, “Tom, my finances are in ruins, I need, $30,000., promise I’ll pay you back”
Would it be a smart idea to hand him the 30k and leave it at that? I want my 30 grand back, and my brother has shown to be untrustworthy with money. But he’s my brother, so I want to help.
I lend the 30k, but I take control of his finances until he’s straight, and has repaid me.
      Is that not reasonable?

Thats whats going on with Obama’s so called government takeover. And the fed is due to receive 600 billion back this year alone.

There is a very real problem when we allow left or right wing tv and radio talk show hosts to do our thinking for us. They too are idealists.
Much of what happens is misinterpreted.
Many times, something is NOT what it seems. The so called FEMA death camps are one such example. Things are not always what they seem.

Read everything, listen to everything, draw your own conclusions. Thats all I’m saying. As far as Obama being a socialist….I don’t know. He’s definitely very left leaning. But these reasons given to us to show proof…Not always what they look like.

Undoubtedly, some will write to correct, or enlighten me. I do understand once a rigid belief system is in place, its very difficult to remain objective.

Stop listening to Rush, or Sean Hannity, these ministers of propaganda will only blind your eyes in the very same way the left does it.

Question the source if information. Especially if you plan to allow it to form the basis of your belief system.

      • DaveH

The Government screwed the bondholders of GM who bought those bonds thinking they were a safe investment. That is why they willingly accepted the low rate of return given by those bonds. So, the government screwed the bondholders and rewarded the Unions (the very people who led GM to its destruction). Talk about Injustice! And since when has government been able to run any business effectively?

    • DaveH

      Normal Liberal,
You would have been rationalizing Hitler’s policies had you been alive then. Keep those Blinders on.

      • Normal Guy

        DaveH

Another non-response, another non addressing of any issues raised by MR. Davey Libertarian all things Cato and Mise. No unbiased and open research of any kind.

Regarding some of your Wikipedia links about the Canadian US economic comparisons, as usual poor data with incorrect conclusions on your part. Here are a couple of links that show once again that you misunderstand most of the issues that you comment on.

As people have been saying Canada’s economy has weathered this storm much better than the US, stronger bank regulations and less leverage on mortgages –

        http://www.clevelandfed.org/research/commentary/2009/0909.cfm

and the relevant per capita income numbers are not based on GDP (as in your earlier posts), the numbers should be based on family income and the median number is more important than the average as it tells you the most common number. Combine this with the mean and it gives you the bias on income up or down.

        http://www4.hrsdc.gc.ca/.3ndic.1t.4r@-eng.jsp?iid=21 The Canadian Stats
        http://www.davemanuel.com/median-household-income.php The US Stats

In the last ten years the Canadian Dollar has gone from under 65 cents on the US dollar to parity. And by the way this after tax number also means that it includes the cost of healthcare in Canada where the US citizens still need to factor in the cost of their families healthcare.

Canada has fared better than the US over the last thirty years, good steady growth a fiscally responsible federal government and rising prosperity with good regulations on their financial institutions that averted the disaster in US financial markets.

      • denniso

That’s a stupid comment, even for you. If any administration came close to Hitler’s tatics,it was Cheny/Bush… demonizing, manipulating, lying, fearmongering, warmongering…even you know that if you’re just a little honest.

        • DaveH

Not stupid at all. Normal is a Big Government sycophant and I believe he likely would have supported Hitler. Even Hitler had to hide what he really was when he was campaigning.
Your remark, however, was the kind of lame comment I can expect from a Liberal zealot like yourself. Have you ever tried to think critically, Dumniso?

          • Normal Guy

            DaveH

Wrong again Dave. I am not a Nazi, or a Marxist or any of the other fear generated fantasies that you and your right wing and Libertarian fear mongers are convinced are conspiracies in our great nation.

You and your Chicken Little friends should have been around in the fifties for McCarthy and friends. I am very involved in my community and in local and national politics. I am not afraid for our nation with the exception of ignorance and TeaBaggers, I am absolutely opposed to fringe freaks who think that this country requires revolution, terror, etc.

I love America I work hard every day to make her stronger, the issues that I disagree with I will happily work to change. The system works. Al you people should spend a little time learning what Communism, Nazism, Socialism means you have your concept but they are incorrect, Nazi’s are not Socialists or liberals. Don’t look now but your ignorance is showing…Again

  • Annie Ladysmith

Nixon called Trudeau “that asshole”,and it’s true it takes one to know one. I assure you Obama is a much more diabolical personality with a psychopathic murderous bent to it than Trudeau ever dreamed of.

There will never be another free US election, i fear we are stuck with this thing AND Marshall law. How could Marxism triumph in America? We let the government educate the kids and they all voted for a leftist idol, as superficial and as stupid as the kids themselves. But, i would never underestimate stupidity, especially of dictators in power of nations. One day soon Obama will make Saddam look like Ghandi. Now that his popularity is waning he will only get worst.

I hope the people that cried tears of joy (like that complete loser Jesse Jackson) when their guy got elected are enjoying their new cars, big college loans, free apartments, and government paid credit cards, because IT AIN”T GONNA LAST FOREVER and the piper will want to get paid with what every Marxist icon desires: the blood, sweat, and tears of the people as they get trampled to dust.

    • denniso

Once again, slowly, anyone who supported Cheny/Bush in their warmongering and surveiling of Americans and budget busting, has absolutely no credibility for attacking Obama…The collapse began after 8yrs of the 2 criminals and Obama is trying everything he can to save the economy and capitalism itself…you traitors have no clue about the economy and our political system and it would be nice if you would do some real reading and thinking before you rant w/ your un American idiocies…wake up man!!!!

      • DaveH

Uh, I think Annie is a woman. Take off those blinders, Denniso!
How do you know she supported Bush/Cheny? Clairvoyant? Or is it just the typical Liberal nonsense comment?

        • denniso

I know that some people are too clueless to be able to understand another’s politics from the words they use or the tone of their language, but w/ a little study and effort even you could eventually do it.
I hope that the sane people on this site read your disgusting comment further up where you called the dead miners in VA stupid, and they must therefore be liberals, because they continued to work in a dangerous setting…I hope others here will ignore you from now on like I will and see through your phoney ‘libertarian’ views. You’re
only a callous, cold, selfish and egotistical person who shouldn’t be called a man.

    • laura

      Good post Annie!!!
      Couldn’t agree more!!!
Obama doesn’t really want to be president he wants to be KING!!!

      GOD BLESS

  • Tom

The word socialist in America is used to produce the very same knee jerk reactions that the word terrorist produces.

Stop listening to your favorite news sources or talking heads and start thinking for yourselves.

I want to be clear….I do not favor socialism at all.

I also no not favor our corrupt form of capitalism either. Its Mafia style capitalism. The large companies merge and corner the markets, or else engage in price fixing, and Washington politicians are all bought off through a very open form of corruption and bribery know as campaign contributions. One does not bite the hand that feeds…

    I ask these simple questions:

Why do we bother to build societies?

    Why bother with government?

The answer,… is that we build societies to improve our lives. Our lives are much improved living within a society, rather than each one of us trying to produce everything we need on our own.

Is that not the original goal? There are many ways we can tweak our society and retain our freedom, and improve our lives.

Can anyone see how far off we have come from our goals of government for the people, by the people? How our quality of life has in fact diminished? And how we live in a world of illusion, to the point that we don’t even know how badly things have deteriorated?

I found this, and thought everyone should read it. Its kinda long, but worth a read.

    America: The Grim Truth

    lancefreeman76
    americathegrimtruth.wordpress.com
    Mon, 05 Apr 2010 17:49 EDT

(April 5, 2010) Americans, I have some bad news for you:

You have the worst quality of life in the developed world – by a wide margin.

If you had any idea of how people really lived in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many parts of Asia, you’d be rioting in the streets calling for a better life. In fact, the average Australian or Singaporean taxi driver has a much better standard of living than the typical American white-collar worker.

I know this because I am an American, and I escaped from the prison you call home.

I have lived all around the world, in wealthy countries and poor ones, and there is only one country I would never consider living in again: The United States of America. The mere thought of it fills me with dread.

Consider this: you are the only people in the developed world without a single-payer health system. Everyone in Western Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand has a single-payer system. If they get sick, they can devote all their energies to getting well.

If you get sick, you have to battle two things at once: your illness and the fear of financial ruin. Millions of Americans go bankrupt every year due to medical bills, and tens of thousands die each year because they have no insurance or insufficient insurance. And don’t believe for a second that rot about America having the world’s best medical care or the shortest waiting lists: I’ve been to hospitals in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Singapore, and Thailand, and every one was better than the “good” hospital I used to go to back home. The waits were shorter, the facilities more comfortable, and the doctors just as good.

This is ironic, because you need a good health system more than anyone else in the world. Why? Because your lifestyle is almost designed to make you sick.

Let’s start with your diet: Much of the beef you eat has been exposed to fecal matter in processing. Your chicken is contaminated with salmonella. Your stock animals and poultry are pumped full of growth hormones and antibiotics. In most other countries, the government would act to protect consumers from this sort of thing; in the United States, the government is bought off by industry to prevent any effective regulations or inspections. In a few years, the majority of all the produce for sale in the United States will be from genetically modified crops, thanks to the cozy relationship between Monsanto Corporation and the United States government. Worse still, due to the vast quantities of high-fructose corn syrup Americans consume, fully one-third of children born in the United States today will be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at some point in their lives.

Of course, it’s not just the food that’s killing you, it’s the drugs. If you show any sign of life when you’re young, they’ll put you on Ritalin. Then, when you get old enough to take a good look around, you’ll get depressed, so they’ll give you Prozac. If you’re a man, this will render you chemically impotent, so you’ll need Viagra to get it up. Meanwhile, your steady diet of trans-fat-laden food is guaranteed to give you high cholesterol, so you’ll get a prescription for Lipitor. Finally, at the end of the day, you’ll lay awake at night worrying about losing your health plan, so you’ll need Lunesta to go to sleep.

With a diet guaranteed to make you sick and a health system designed to make sure you stay that way, what you really need is a long vacation somewhere. Unfortunately, you probably can’t take one. I’ll let you in on little secret: if you go to the beaches of Thailand, the mountains of Nepal, or the coral reefs of Australia, you’ll probably be the only American in sight. And you’ll be surrounded crowds of happy Germans, French, Italians, Israelis, Scandinavians and wealthy Asians. Why? Because they’re paid well enough to afford to visit these places AND they can take vacations long enough to do so. Even if you could scrape together enough money to go to one of these incredible places, by the time you recovered from your jetlag, it would be time to get on a plane and rush back to your job.

If you think I’m making this up, check the stats on average annual vacation days by country:

    Finland: 44
    Italy: 42
    France: 39
    Germany: 35
    UK: 25
    Japan: 18
    USA: 12

The fact is, they work you like dogs in the United States. This should come as no surprise: the United States never got away from the plantation/sweat shop labor model and any real labor movement was brutally suppressed. Unless you happen to be a member of the ownership class, your options are pretty much limited to barely surviving on service-sector wages or playing musical chairs for a spot in a cubicle (a spot that will be outsourced to India next week anyway). The very best you can hope for is to get a professional degree and then milk the system for a slice of the middle-class pie. And even those who claw their way into the middle class are but one illness or job loss away from poverty. Your jobs aren’t secure. Your company has no loyalty to you. They’ll play you off against your coworkers for as long as it suits them, then they’ll get rid of you.

Of course, you don’t have any choice in the matter: the system is designed this way. In most countries in the developed world, higher education is either free or heavily subsidized; in the United States, a university degree can set you back over US$100,000. Thus, you enter the working world with a crushing debt. Forget about taking a year off to travel the world and find yourself – you’ve got to start working or watch your credit rating plummet.

If you’re “lucky,” you might even land a job good enough to qualify you for a home loan. And then you’ll spend half your working life just paying the interest on the loan – welcome to the world of American debt slavery. America has the illusion of great wealth because there’s a lot of “stuff” around, but who really owns it? In real terms, the average American is poorer than the poorest ghetto dweller in Manila, because at least they have no debts. If they want to pack up and leave, they can; if you want to leave, you can’t, because you’ve got debts to pay.

All this begs the question: Why would anyone put up with this? Ask any American and you’ll get the same answer: because America is the freest country on earth. If you believe this, I’ve got some more bad news for you: America is actually among the least free countries on earth. Your piss is tested, your emails and phone calls are monitored, your medical records are gathered, and you are never more than one stray comment away from writhing on the ground with two Taser prongs in your ass.

And that’s just physical freedom. Mentally, you are truly imprisoned. You don’t even know the degree to which you are tormented by fears of medical bankruptcy, job loss, homelessness and violent crime because you’ve never lived in a country where there is no need to worry about such things.

But it goes much deeper than mere surveillance and anxiety. The fact is, you are not free because your country has been taken over and occupied by another government. Fully 70% of your tax dollars go to the Pentagon, and the Pentagon is the real government of the United States. You are required under pain of death to pay taxes to this occupying government. If you’re from the less fortunate classes, you are also required to serve and die in their endless wars, or send your sons and daughters to do so. You have no choice in the matter: there is a socio-economic draft system in the United States that provides a steady stream of cannon fodder for the military.

If you call a life of surveillance, anxiety and ceaseless toil in the service of a government you didn’t elect “freedom,” then you and I have a very different idea of what that word means.

If there was some chance that the country could be changed, there might be reason for hope. But can you honestly look around and conclude that anything is going to change? Where would the change come from? The people? Take a good look at your compatriots: the working class in the United States has been brutally propagandized by jackals like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. Members of the working class have been taught to lick the boots of their masters and then bend over for another kick in the ass. They’ve got these people so well trained that they’ll take up arms against the other half of the working class as soon as their masters give the word.

If the people cannot make a change, how about the media? Not a chance. From Fox News to the New York Times, the mass media in the United States is nothing but the public relations wing of the corporatocracy, primarily the military industrial complex. At least the citizens of the former Soviet Union knew that their news was bullshit. In America, you grow up thinking you’ve got a free media, which makes the propaganda doubly effective. If you don’t think American media is mere corporate propaganda, ask yourself the following question: have you ever heard a major American news outlet suggest that the country could fund a single-payer health system by cutting military spending?

If change can’t come from the people or the media, the only other potential source of change would be the politicians. Unfortunately, the American political process is among the most corrupt in the world. In every country on earth, one expects politicians to take bribes from the rich. But this generally happens in secret, behind the closed doors of their elite clubs. In the United States, this sort of political corruption is done in broad daylight, as part of legal, accepted, standard operating procedure. In the United States, they merely call these bribes campaign donations, political action committees and lobbyists. One can no more expect the politicians to change this system than one can expect a man to take an axe and chop his own legs out from underneath him.

No, the United States of America is not going to change for the better. The only change will be for the worse. And when I say worse, I mean much worse. As we speak, the economic system that sustained the country during the post-war years is collapsing. The United States maxed out its “credit card” sometime in 2008 and now its lenders, starting with China, are in the process of laying the foundations for a new monetary system to replace the Anglo-American “petro-dollar” system. As soon as there is a viable alternative to the US dollar, the greenback will sink like a stone.

While the United States was running up crushing levels of debt, it was also busy shipping its manufacturing jobs and white-collar jobs overseas, and letting its infrastructure fall to pieces. Meanwhile, Asian and European countries were investing in education, infrastructure and raw materials. Even if the United States tried to rebuild a real economy (as opposed to a service/financial economy) do you think American workers would ever be able to compete with the workers of China or Europe? Have you ever seen a Japanese or German factory? Have you ever met a Singaporean or Chinese worker?

There are only two possible futures facing the United States, and neither one is pretty. The best case is a slow but orderly decline – essentially a continuation of what’s been happening for the last two decades. Wages will drop, unemployment will rise, Medicare and Social Security benefits will be slashed, the currency will decline in value, and the disparity of wealth will spiral out of control until the United States starts to resemble Mexico or the Philippines – tiny islands of wealth surrounded by great poverty (the country is already halfway there).

Equally likely is a sudden collapse, perhaps brought about by a rapid flight from the US dollar by creditor nations like China, Japan, Korea and the OPEC nations. A related possibility would be a default by the United States government on its vast debt. One look at the financial balance sheet of the US government should convince you how likely this is: governmental spending is skyrocketing and tax receipts are plummeting – something has to give. If either of these scenarios plays out, the resulting depression will make the present recession look like a walk in the park.

Whether the collapse is gradual or gut-wrenchingly sudden, the results will be chaos, civil strife and fascism. Let’s face it: the United States is like the former Yugoslavia – a collection of mutually antagonistic cultures united in name only. You’ve got your own version of the Taliban: right-wing Christian fundamentalists who actively loathe the idea of secular Constitutional government. You’ve got a vast intellectual underclass that has spent the last few decades soaking up Fox News and talk radio propaganda, eager to blame the collapse on Democrats, gays and immigrants. You’ve got a ruthless ownership class that will use all the means at its disposal to protect its wealth from the starving masses.

On top of all that you’ve got vast factory farms, sprawling suburbs and a truck-based shipping system, all of it entirely dependent on oil that is about to become completely unaffordable. And you’ve got guns. Lots of guns. In short: the United States is about to become a very unwholesome place to be.

Right now, the government is building fences and walls along its northern and southern borders. Right now, the government is working on a national ID system (soon to be fitted with biometric features). Right now, the government is building a surveillance state so extensive that they will be able to follow your every move, online, in the street and across borders. If you think this is just to protect you from “terrorists,” then you’re sadly mistaken. Once the shit really hits the fan, do you really think you’ll just be able to jump into the old station wagon, drive across the Canadian border and spend the rest of your days fishing and drinking Molson? No, the government is going to lock the place down. They don’t want their tax base escaping. They don’t want their “recruits” escaping. They don’t want YOU escaping.

I am not writing this to scare you. I write this to you as a friend. If you are able to read and understand what I’ve written here, then you are a member of a small minority in the United States. You are a minority in a country that has no place for you.

    So what should you do?

You should leave the United States of America.

If you’re young, you’ve got plenty of choices: you can teach English in the Middle East, Asia or Europe. Or you can go to university or graduate school abroad and start building skills that will qualify you for a work visa. If you’ve already got some real work skills, you can apply to emigrate to any number of countries as a skilled immigrant. If you are older and you’ve got some savings, you can retire to a place like Costa Rica or the Philippines. If you can’t qualify for a work, student or retirement visa, don’t let that stop you – travel on a tourist visa to a country that appeals to you and talk to the expats you meet there. Whatever you do, go speak to an immigration lawyer as soon as you can. Find out exactly how to get on a path that will lead to permanent residence and eventually citizenship in the country of your choice.

You will not be alone. There are millions of Americans just like me living outside the United States. Living lives much more fulfilling, peaceful, free and abundant than we ever could have attained back home. Some of us happened upon these lives by accident – we tried a year abroad and found that we liked it – others made a conscious decision to pack up and leave for good. You’ll find us in Canada, all over Europe, in many parts of Asia, in Australia and New Zealand, and in most other countries of the globe. Do we miss our friends and family? Yes. Do we occasionally miss aspects of our former country? Yes. Do we plan on ever living again in the United States? Never. And those of us with permanent residence or citizenship can sponsor family members from back home for long-term visas in our adopted countries.

In closing, I want to remind you of something: unless you are an American Indian or a descendant of slaves, at some point your ancestors chose to leave their homeland in search of a better life. They weren’t traitors and they weren’t bad people, they just wanted a better life for themselves and their families. Isn’t it time that you continue their journey?

    • dave

For a while now I have been thinking about leaving here. I have never been out side of the United States and until not too long ago I had never really thought about it. But like I said recently I have been thinking about it. I am of Indian decent, but not enough to be able to claim rights. I have not worked in over 33 months due to a work injury. I have learned allot since this happened. I found out all these work mans comp laws can be circumvented. I have found out that even though you have doctors saying it is all over our wonderfull Social Security system which was supposed to help keep an injured or retired person out of destitution tells you no way and you have to fight to get the very funds that you have paid into for many years. I found out that even trying to get help from the county for your family is nothing but a sham, because they are out of funds or your spouce makes a few dollars more than the max allowed. I am now 54 years old and hurt and tired. I am tired of having to cower and beg for some thing that almost any illegal can recieve. I only want to able to make sure my family is covered until I can get my pension which is 9 mos. away. If I could leave today where would I go? I asked my wife this just a few days ago. Is there any where on this earth where a person can live with out someone ripping you off or a government worker intruding into your personal buisness? At this age I should have been starting to think more about retirement in a possitive light not just to get some sort of financial relief. I think the bottom line is that I hope god will help us, for the government will not!

      • denniso

Tom…you make some good points and thanks for the civil and well written comment. But, you say you don’t like ‘socialism’ yet the countries you list are all more ‘socilaistic’ than we are. They all have a more controlled economy and social benefits and health care. The people demand a month or more of vacation time and the gov’t helps by leading the way. All industrial western countries have a much wider social benefit system than we do,from cradle to grave…
they all have longer life spans than we do,less violence, lower child mortality rate, lower poverty rate, etc, and generally happier people than us.
Our extreme rightwingers here whine about ‘socialism’ when they don’t even know what it is and can’t even compare our system to others…they’re terrified of labels put out by the corporate class shouting through mouthpieces like Limbaugh and Beck, for the sole purpose of maintaining their grip on our country and it’s wealth.

You sound smart and reasonable,so I hope you didn’t really mean you
‘love Beck’…he’s become a clown and demagogue and is actively hurting the economy and our ability to rationally discuss politics here.

        • Claire

denniso– I suggest you read Tom’s post again. And quit worrying about Glenn Beck.

      • American Citizen

Most countries will not let you emigrate to them unless you have a job waiting as they are all in the same boat we are. Have you contacted your congressperson about your situation, especially your rep?

      • angel-wanna-be

Dave, my husband was on comp for a while too, several years ago__You have to fight for everything, even for the money you paid in, unless your an illegal alien or own nothing.__The Government won’t help you keep what you have__I too said I’d like to sell lock-stock and barrel and move somewhere, where we can, work, live out the rest of our lives, away from a Government who is trying to get every last bit of what we are, and what we have to make someones else life better, I give to charity on my own, the Government has no right to take without even asking__good luck & God bless

    • Claire

Tom– I read your post several times and much of what you say is true and very thought-provoking. It is ironic since I have friends/relatives that live abroad in various countries and they have also said some of the same things that you have just written. None of them want to move back to America. I used to always think they were stupid for feeling this way, but as the years have gone by, I have realized that maybe they weren’t so stupid after all.

    • DaveH

I lived in America before the Government grew to its current Leviathan size. So I know what it’s like to not live in a Nanny State. I liked it much better before.
Yes, we have Crony-Capitalism, but that isn’t going to change with Bigger Government. As Government Grows, Corruption Flows.
Now you want us to imitate Europe where several countries are on the brink and have even more government then we do. I also don’t approve of the military state, or the war on drugs, but I sure don’t want to swap one evil for the evil that you propose, Tom.
There are no free lunches, no free medical care. Look at all those ‘happy’ people in Greece. The European countries are living on debt and the piper will be coming. It’s just a matter of time.

Big Government is the Problem, Not the Solution.

Of course, those working in Government with their average $70,000 a year salaries would dispute that.

      • denniso

So you don’t think that the gov’t of Nixon that used the FBI and CIA to go after anti war Americans was ‘big gov’t?? You don’t think that the gov’t that waged a futile and tragic war in Vietnam for 10 freaking yrs, sending a couple of million kids there and having 500,000 on the ground at one time was ‘big gov’t’??? We’ve had ‘big gov’t’ for over a hundred yrs…you’re a little late in you crying over it.

Dave: do you not think that Ameica is also on the brink thanks to unfetered greed and Wall Street corruption?
Tom: You are bang on the button. What you have said is that you like the “socialist” form of government, for those are the governments that you mentioned. They are also a lot safer to live in, you do not have gun toting Tea Party to worry about. You can see that US is on the brink of some major crimes being committed by loons listening to the GOP leadership and Fox. These people are bordering on “sedicious” acts, you just have to listen to Michele Bauchman and Sarah half term.

        • JC

Are you completely unaware that every administration since the inception of the Fed has bought and paid for every politician in the the Federal government no matter their party? Do you have any idea how comlpetely irrelevant it is to argue left vs. right? Do you realize just how well trained you are to do exactly what it is that you are doing…which is to completely miss the point? To be completely misdirected from the real problem?
NONE of those “greedy” Wall Street people could do what they are doing under a sytem of justice or without the cronyism of the government.
Arguing that it was this Republican or that Democrat is a total waste of time and so are most of your comments.

            JC in fantasy

Wow who would have thought Ron Paul bought and paid for by the Fed.

Every federal politician bought and paid for – amazing how they keep it out of the media, must be all cash deals and cloning the dissenters and stuff huh????

You can’t believe the things you write. If you do watch out because your intestines will reach up and throttle your brain to attenmpt an escape. WOW!

          • JC

That is simply rhetorical and without substance. Ron Paul and a few others seem to be above that sort of corruptuion but they are exceptions and the point stands.
Read some books for background on the Fed and its owners.
Or just keep pounding bananas…whatever suits you.

Rightwing conspiracy boy. I need to educate myself so that I can share your delusions. Sorry I’ll pass on that particular waste of time. The advantage of actually having some education is that weak theories that are baseless can be easily dismissed once you find the holes in the logic. Your theories are basically just big holes with threads of the real world here and there, just ridiculous.

Wake up get involved actually work with and meet some of the people that you spew fears about. The world is not entangled in one big global conspiracy, go do something useful.

And, Tom, you’ve been to “hospitals in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Singapore, and Thailand, and every one was better than the “good” hospital I used to go to back home”? Funny, I’m sixty, and I’ve been to one hospital in my life. And that was for a minor operation which should have been done on an out-patient basis. You’ve made my point that given anything “free”, usage increases dramatically. Who do you think pays for all that “free” care? Santa Claus?
And why is it that you Liberals insist on writing books on this website? Do you think that quantity outweighs quality?

      • DaveH

By the way, Tom, I hope you do convince the Liberals to leave the US. I would applaud you for that.

  • dave

I for one have always relied on some thing my mom tld me when I was young. Go with what your gut tells you. I did not vote for Obama as every time I see this guy the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up. My gut tells me that he is not good. He spoke of a new era and for the most part we have the Clinton administration again. Ya I woked pretty steady all those years and all I did was pay income taxes. And for all that hell that we were put through paying that tax rate was to watch him give raises for all in government at the end of his administration. I have seen the Great Bill Clinton on U tube admitting to being the cause of our problem that we have now. I know George Bush was no prize but just think back to when John Kerry ran for pres. and spoke about giving Iran Nuclear fuel and just wait and see if they fire it back at us then we will know. well I am glad he did not get in and I think allot of people would agree with me on that one. Now comes this guy and said change is coming. Well for any one who makes the kind of money and is supported by a whole bunch of rich people, I tend to find some thing real wrong with statements like I am going to raise taxes on the rich. It just does not make sense. Now for this Health care thing. You need to read it and I mean read page 1312 or 22 where it talks about a private army to be funded by this monster. Can any one spell SS, Gestapo, Republican guard, Revolutionary guard? It is here right now, and we are in severe trouble as a nation. I wonder if all those who voted for this will have the courage to say I was miss lead when it all hits.I also suggest you read NONE DARE CALL IT CONSPIRACY by Gary Allen. It spells it out in great detail. What will come next suspend elections with marshal law? Lets wake up America! By the way I have not worked for 33 months and have to fight for my disability. MOre money paid into a stop gap system. Thanks F.D.R for nothing. My son has nothing short of having to get in line with us to beg for enough to eat on. And thats a fight! By the way have a nice day all!

    • denniso

You don’t like Obama because when you see him the hair on your neck stands up?? Now that’s very acute and logical reasoning…You decry the Clinton yrs and yet his 8 yrs were one of the best for the economy and wealth generation. During those 8yrs of Clinton we had the lowest number of dead service men and women and almost uninterrupted peace. Sure, the rich got richer, but isn’t that what you diehard capitalists want? You’re blindly partisan and you should wonder whether race is playing a part in your neck hairs standing up.

      • JeffH

…always gotta slip in a comment about racism, when none is mentioned. Hmmm, I know who the real racist is, YOU!

DaveH…have you noticed that it is so common for them to start their rants with: “So you don’t think…”, ” Do you mean …”,”But, you say you don’t like ’socialism”…when it was never mentioned in the other person’s comments, “Cheny/Bush in their warmongering”…”8 years”.
The talking points are so Alinsky it’s almost as if one person could post all of the confused liberal rants under a half dozen differant names. You can actually anticipate how they respond to the word…

Rule#7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag. Man can sustain militant interest in any issue for only a limited time….”

The liberal hacks aren’t fooling anybody anymore, only themselves!

Andrew Brietbart has a great website you might find interesting that specifically expose all of the shenanigans the left uses, with video and audio and great commentary and news.
            http://biggovernment.com/

        • JeffH

          DaveH…I pulled this from http://www.floppingaces.net/

The real racism is being directed at black conservatives!
It is a great referance site that provides not only great info on the libs/Alinsky/Obama but backs up what is said with a lot of clear video/audio.
duh!nisso and the other liberals are nothing but the racists they oh so badly want everyone else to be.

Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN)went on radio recently calling the Tea Partiers a “clone of George Wallace” comparing them to the Ku Klux Klan without the “robes and hoods” he was actually describing the Democrat practice of intimidating, even lynching black conservatives who dare to speak out against Obama.

I suppose we should be thankful that Democrats aren’t donning white sheets and hoods and burning crosses in the lawns of black conservative as they did in the old days when they targeted blacks and Republicans in the South. But now they have their union goons in purple SEIU shirts beating a black conservative outside a town hall and actually using the “n” word. And for that event we actually have video proof!

And just as liberals feign outrage over phony charges that Tea Partiers shouted the “n” word at black Congressman before the vote on health care, these same people were silent when Condoleezza Rice, Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, Judge Janice Rogers Brown, Michael Steele and any number of black Republicans and conservatives have been called every racial epithet in the book and more.

So, when the lovers of tolerance and diversity started calling the Tea Partiers a whites only bunch of racists it was just par for the course.

      • American Citizen

What is happening to our country has been planned and ongoing for
the past century, spoken and written about at length and in detail
for decades. Anyone who doesn’t believe all this has been systematically implemented and orchestrated has simply not been paying attention. And that includes the vast majority.

Things have followed the plan to a tee. This has all been set up to come crashing down hard, all the while keeping us thinking our government cares about us. The next move will be some catastrophic
event, probably staged to implicate some “right-wing terrorist group”,
and then all bets are off. Half of our population will find themselves suddenly targeted as enemies of the state. Our people will
    turn on one another.

History shows that this is always the pattern. This is why schools no longer teach real history. “There is nothing new under the sun. What
is has been before, and will be again.”

Most will scoff and mock, but not for long. There are many of us who see what’s on the horizon.

    God help us.

    • Curtis S

HAHAHA… American schools NEVER taught real history. That’s why most of you think the World War One started in 1917 and World War Two started in 1941. You think Lewis & Clark were great explorers when a number of British explorers had been to the west coast by sea and overland before Lewis & Clark. American history has always been about America. You think the Wright Brothers were the first to fly… basically you think you invented everything and did everything first. You lament the way American History is taught now???? The rest of the world has always lamented how you taught history. HAHAHA….

      • DaveH

No doubt that any History is questionable, given that every beholder of events has a different perspective. But the funny thing is that you expect us to believe a guy that makes statements like:
“The rest of the world has always lamented how you taught history”

And now that the libs have rammed this health care fiasco through, let me tell you all how it will turn out. As you know they allready hired a bunch of IRS guys to enforce payments and such, but this is how it will grow on the government payroll. Back in the Carter administration, they formed the Department of Energy. This was formed to lessen our dependance on foreign oil. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Problem is, some 32 years later, we are still dependant as we were then, and the budget for this “Necessary” department is at 24.2 billion a year. They have 16,000 federal employees and 100,000 contract employees. And we the tax payer are paying for this. Thirty two years ago, 30 percent of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today it is over 70 percent. Fine job the government does making up these organizations to run things. Now they are going to manage our health system. How many hundred thousands of employees are they going to place under our payroll now? This is the liberal programs, where they grow government and we all pay for it. Not a good idea.

Both my husband and I sold product in Canada for a number of years. The Canadians are great people! Most in BC and Alberta would tell us they would have liked to be part of the US, not anymore. They believe that we are heading down the same path as they did and that it was not for the betterment of their country. They believe our path is even more over the top than theirs. Recently, after the health care bill passage, my husband and I looked into immigrating to Canada but it is too expensive, in property, good and services, and taxes. Some of our friends in Canada are asking if Obama is so great why is our dollar now worth about the same as theirs?

If this spending spree and money printing by the Federal Reserve continue we will be leaving this country for somewhere a lot more friendly and economically stable than the US is right now. If we don’t get the people out of office this November this is our priority. I will not stay in a country that demands I give my money to someone that had all the same opportunities as I did but didn’t work for it. What will all the poor liberal, government dependent , people do when all the money is gone from this country? They will have to find jobs – jobs that are low paying because we have allowed legal and illegal immigration in this country to get out of control, we have allowed waste and fraud in our social services systems, we have people able to work but won’t, we have people collecting unemployment benefits for two years or more. How long do you think this can go on when 47% of the people in this country pay NO INCOME TAXES at all?

      hi Meteorlady,

I have to agree with you….only partially. It is true that Alberta & B.C’ers sometime wish to be part of the U.S but mostly on the basis that the grass will be greener….also motivated by sheer & utter hatred for Ontario and other points Eastward in Canada. I moved to Alberta from Ontario a few years back, and left my Ontario plates on my car for as long as possible, even though most people told me to change them quick….I loved the dirty looks, getting cut off in traffic, people shaking their heads, I aboslutley loved it!

But getting back to my point, most Alberta & BC would quickly change their tune if they ever became part of the States, their beloved health coverage would be gone, the cities would have an even uglier inner core, much higher crimes, etc…although Canada may look like a socialist nation from an American perspective, our lifestyles are very similar to yours however, our crime rates are low because we have programs in place to catch those who fall thru the cracks…make no mistake, there are neighbourhoods in Toronto that I would never venture into, but nowhere near as dangerous as a similar sized city in the States.

Universal healthcare is not any more social than police & fire protection….does it not faze America at all that they are the only nation left in the G20 that doesn’t have a healthcare plan for its citizens? There is no utopian system in place, anywhere, no healthcare plan is perfect. Before you attempt to correct me, think for a second…what is a better scenerio, being put on a waiting list for major surgery or being denied coverage by your “healthcare provider”…a “provider” who you pay money into, that is supposed to “provide” for you. Insurance companies are not in the business to insure you. Americans should embrace the new healthcare bill, for a nation of beliefs that entitlments are endless and a God given right, this should be a no-brainer.

    • denniso

Land…good comment, now watch the ‘crazies’ go after you for it,because in their idea of free speech you don’t get to talk w/o being demonized and trashed and called communist for your opinion…here it comes,watch..

    • JeffH

Only the no-brainers consider the HCB to be the no-brainer…for the Marxist/socialists anti-capitalist Alinsky-ites.

      • Landcruiser

you must be a Healthcare CEO who stands to lose a ton of cash, otherwise why would you be so against the HCB?

        • JeffH

Nope, just an American patriot that is truthful and doesn’t much care for Marxist/socialist ideology and forced government control over the masses.

          • Landcruiser

so, what’s your take on police services, and fire protection….would that not be on the socalist/marxist idealisms? What about public education, should all those services be billed accordingly? Would you support $25 postage stamps to cover wages of postal workers?

          • denniso

The rightwingers are utterly inconsistent, not surprising maybe…
they love our socialized military, our socialized police and firefighters, our socialized road systems, our gov’t subsidized airline industry, our gov’t subsidized farmers and ranchers, etc, etc…but they somehow believe that vitally important healthcare shouldn’t be a right to all Americans regardless of income…nonsense.

          • Landcruiser

Nothing would change, really….the hospitals would still be there, the doctors would still get paid as much, the only thing that would change is the Healthcare Insurance companies would have to insure you regardless of pre-conditions, what’s the problem?

        • Landcruiser

to be honest, I don’t know what leftism & rightism is to begin with….right though does sound Fascist, but…..

        • JC

How about forced compliance? Is that not a good enough reason to be offended?

          • denniso

I’m a liberal…I’m in favor of affordable access to healthcare for every American…but I’m not in favor of forcing people to buy anything from a private corporation. Healthcare should be paid for through taxes that we pay in to the feds, the feds would then pay private doctors and hospitals for care…we would take the fat corporations and their multi million dollar salaries out of the health business entirely. It would cost about 1/2 of what the present system does and everyone would be guaranteed care. We would all share in paying for it w/ the progressive tax system we already have. Corporations would still sell life, auto, home, etc…It would work and be much more effective.
We already mostly accept paying taxes so this wouldn’t be any more socialistic than what we have now. People who have ins now would get a pay increase to reflect their co’s current ins payments.

          • Landcruiser

I’m not a Liberal nor a Conservative, I don’t believe in big government, but I also don’t believe in insurance companies holding your healthcard. The Healthcare system in Canada isn’t perfect, the big problem is abuse. I’ve been in a clinic in the States, not too much different from one in Canada, except for a candy machine in the lobby, a rather odd thing to have in a health facility….but the U.S clinic was empty….a clinic in Canada would have 2 to 20 people waiting, usually for something mundane like a sore throat or headache…that’s a huge draw on the resources. Another problem I can think of is our doctors and nurses get lured to the States for the promise of big bucks! But you have to compromise your morals, sorry folks I know the eyes are rolling here, but if I were in the healthcare industry, I’d have one hard time turning someone away that doesn’t have coverage.

  • Landcruiser

I’m sure they’re on the way Denniso, this should be good!

JeffH; That talking point and video clip of FOX propaganda is so far fetched I really do’nt see how they could convince anyone that there is any truth to their claims.Rupert’s puppets sure can fool some people by interjecting their own twist on issues.Read the HCB in it’s entirity like I did and you will see the beauty of it and it’s potential when the public option and end of life counseling are restored.Since President Obama was elected the sun even seems to be shining brighter the air much tastier and the American people are walking around with a proud look on their faces.God has shed his grace on thee truly.

We voted in a man who has voted on women the right to execute their babies on the third trimester of pregnacy. You sir, have zero understanding of the wisdom of God. You sir, have a very serious misconception of what God does to countries that “kick him to the curb”. You sir are in for a rude awakening, along with the rest of us, very soon when God intercedes “like never before in the history of mankind” when THE WARNING happens to all. The Bible says, “In the end every man shall know my face”. Get your souls ready for your “mini-judgements” that all will face. Time is running out, and you actually think God is happy with Obama? Wow. Scary.

Oh my gosh dude, are you freeking nuts? America has a dark cloud over it since the inception of this lying scoundrel. He cannot produce a birth certificate. He cannot produce his so called college papers. He is tied deeply to a racist preacher, 20 years worth. To a common criminal, Anthony Rezko since he was young. To a domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, who started his political career in his Ayers house, to other Chicago foul mouthed thugs like Rham Emmanuel. He cares not what the American people want, as the majority, even in his own party, were totally against them going into a back room and forcing this socialist health care plan down our throats, so that I can pay a little more money into it, so that the poor, poor crack dealer on the corner can now have free health care. He apologizes to terrorists who are trying to kill us, and wont stop trying until they are dead. He is releasing them to come try to kill us again, and they are. He is providing them with lawyers, while imprisoning our own guys for trying to kill them to keep them from killing us. He is taxing business’s causing them to lay people off. He has balooned food stamps and welfare and unemployment, so that those who are too lazy to work can live on the public dole for longer. And then there are blind, dumb and stupid people like you, that see all this going on, and you THINK this to be good for America? Come on man. Get off the sauce or off the pipe. Something is convoluting your mind. Anyone thinking straight would see what these guys are doing, and not only be appalled, but should be getting really ticked off at what they are doing to our country. You like someone selling you down the road like this? Do you work, or are you one of those standing around with your hand out, dependant on the government? I myself, well Im a man. I dont need no government to wipe my butt for me and clean me up. I will never be dependant on them, and shame on those of you who are living handout to handout. Shame on you for supporting this mentality in this country. And so you will know, as it is obvious you think anyone with money is evil, I was born poor, and didnt realize it until I grew up. I never went to college because we couldnt afford it. I worked two jobs for 5 years. Im in the 50 grand range at my job down, and I consider myself blessed. I am in want of nothing. God takes care of me and provides, and I truly know from who my blessings flow. If I can work and have all I need, and give away 10 percent of my earnings right off the top, I guess I need to know why others cant work, instead of sponging off of others. And you support this mentality. Sorry, I dont.

I don’t follow American politics, but didn’t this whole schmozle with the economy tanking and therefore EI benefits being extended start during the Bush/Cheney years or was that propaganda? I’m so confused

      • Mary T.

I pray one day our grandkids will be free..from this awful time we are having…I know politics is awful at times but this is so sad.
All the programs the government did was to help…but just like teens when the want the family car and never put gas in it…we are doing the same thing. Wanting all kinds of stuff and not to pay for it…Insurance is that…thing right now, we don’t have the freedom to go get it for free while someone will pay…sad so sad…I am sorry…I don’t have anything fancy in my home…I want the freedom from worry about all the stuff we Americans think we need…insurance is good if you have pride in yourself to buy it…insurance companies shame on you for not doing your part to make it affordible…for all who need it…well that is all I have to say…Mr. Trudeau made a mess out of Canadians medical system so we have to jump over to doing the same, yippie…oh well…signing out … God Bless America…

You kept on intruding in my computer with all bullshit I do not need. Never thought of stopping. I do not belif in your political phylosophy, whether dr. or not. I could care less. Your ideas a wicked to human race. Stop thinking about bombs, the end of life and sos and so. You are just putting fear in people. Republicans are the most unreasonable group in America, trying to imppose their believes on others. Refusing to understand that a country has to have standards on it own to be governed. And those standard should be reasonable for bearability or flexible enough for human consumption, since we are not perfect. Most republicans/Libertarians are very stiff, brittle in their thoughts, which is to say they are perfect. Checking their life, they are the worse with past record hard to swallow. Their recist past should talk to them for much more human thinking.

  • JPW-

Bereroni; If your only in the fifty grand range you have nothing to fear from President Obama. He only wants to restore the tax on the wealthy $250,ooo on up. Not our measley salaries of 50 -250.Some day you may lose that job and benefits and and say thank god for Obama.

  • Joe

Yeah typical Republican bull@#$% that the working man is only alive to keep rich CEO’s and corporations living the high life why we do the scrimping, saving, fighting and dying for this country is misguided.

  • WhisperingWillow

I am a Canadian who has lived in Canada for 33 years and the US for the last 23 years. Canada has prospered, made many corrections to the systems they have and is the envy of the world’s financial systems. Canadians LOVE their health care. They have peace of mind, good educations and their economy is much more stable than all other industrialized nations.

Living in the US has turned into an absolute NIGHTMARE! This country is NOT a nation. It is a college of corporations who run EVERYTHING. America is a tiny group od elitists who are abusing and bankrupting the other 95% of it’s people. Americans are selfish, rude, greedy and suffer from abuse in the work place and everywhere else. You cannot trust anything or anybody in this society. If they were real patriots they would pay more taxes for the betterment of their society. They think only of their pocket books. Their God is money. Nothing else. They lost 13 TRILLION dollars of net worth in 2009 and still applaud the republicans who caused it. They are about to lose another 20 TRILLION dollars as they continue down a path to destroy their own country.

Canada is a nation. America is a degenerate pissing contest. The most amazing thing about Americans is how they cheer on the elite as the elite steal their underwear. Americans on average are as dumb as dirt. If you are in Canada kneel down and kiss the snow and stay there.
