Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole

August 24, 2012 by

Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole

Did you know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been spending hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get more people to sign up for food stamps?

I kid you not. One of the most absurd examples was “a 10-part series of Spanish-language ‘novelas’ that trumpeted the benefits of the food stamp program.”

In the public service announcements, several people pressure a wife and mother named Diana to sign up for assistance, even though she says she doesn’t need it.

In the fourth commercial, Diana says (in Spanish): “I don’t need help from anyone. My husband makes enough to take care of us.” That’s a great example of traditional American values, wouldn’t you say?

Apparently, it isn’t for the folks at the USDA, who produced the advertising campaign in 2008.

Diana’s friends keep badgering her to wise up and get with the program. Ultimately, they win her over. By the end of the series, Diana has her own food stamp Electronic Benefit Transfer card and has become an enthusiastic proponent of letting Uncle Sam buy her groceries.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) was just one of many Congressmen who condemned the series of messages: “It has become increasingly clear that, in recent years, the mission of the food stamp program has been converted from targeted assistance for those in need into an aggressive drive to expand enrollment, regardless of need.”

Indeed it has. In the past decade, Federal spending on the food stamp program (technically known as SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has more than quadrupled. In Fiscal 2011, more than $76 billion worth of food stamps were distributed to 45 million Americans.

But those staggering numbers aren’t enough for some people. As Sessions put it: “The program administrators take personal offense when people who technically qualify for their largesse decline to accept — and see it as an obstacle to overcome.”

In the 1970s, just one American in 50 received food-stamp benefits. Now that number is one in seven. In other words, 15 percent of the U.S. population is dependent on food stamps.

Earlier this year, House Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi said that Barack Obama should wear the title of “Food Stamp President” as a “badge of honor.” If so, he’s a very honorable man; participation in the food stamp program jumped 50 percent since he took office. During the same period, the cost to U.S. taxpayers has almost doubled.

But the Federal food stamp program is just one example of Washington’s relentless drive to get more and more Americans on the dole. For example, did you know that more Americans have started receiving disability payments under Obama than the amount of new jobs that are being created?

As hard as that may be to believe, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that although the economy has created 2.6 million new jobs since June of 2009, during that same three-year period, some 3.1 million people began receiving disability benefits. In other words, the number of new disability enrollees is rising 19 percent faster than the number of new jobs being created. Counting dependents, more than 10 million people receive a disability check each month.

In fiscal 2011, the disability insurance program paid out $119 billion. Hold onto your hat, because the Congressional Budget Office says at the rate we’re going, that number will jump to $204 billion over the next 10 years. That’s a 71 percent increase.

But let’s not worry about what happens in 10 years. The CBO says that long before we get there, the disability trust fund will be insolvent. At the rate we’re going, we’ll hit that wall in just four more years.

By the way, here’s another depressing statistic about our disability program. Once someone gets on the program, by and large the only way that person ever leaves it is by dying. According to Social Security Administration numbers, only 1 percent of disability recipients ever get healthy enough to return to work.

And finally, let me add a few words about another effort by the Obama Administration that makes it it easier to receive a welfare check.

In 1996, President Bill Clinton and Republicans in Congress agreed to make sweeping changes in this country’s welfare program. The reform bill they passed, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act, created the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and required welfare recipients to look for work to be eligible for benefits. It even specified which activities would qualify as “work.” And as the name of the program implied (note the word “Temporary” in the title), such benefits were supposed to be short-term. Of course, there is nothing so permanent as a “temporary” government program.

Nevertheless, the results of the welfare-reform legislation were startling. Throughout the Nation, welfare caseloads, which had remained unchanged for decades, dropped dramatically. Poverty numbers declined; employment among single mothers soared. And ever since, the measure has been hailed as a remarkable bipartisan success story.

Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.

Republican Congressmen are outraged at what they see as another illegal seizure of power by the Obama Administration. Senator Orin Hatch (R-Utah) declared: “Gutting welfare work requirements with the stroke of a pen and without congressional input is simply unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand. Neither the Obama Administration nor any Administration should have the power to unilaterally change the law as it sees fit.” (I wonder if he hasn’t been paying attention for the past four years.)

Add it all up and what do you get? Yes, massive new increases in Federal spending; that goes without saying. But the other result is millions more Americans on the government dole.

And now for the $16 trillion question: How do you think these new welfare recipients will vote?

A good quote — erroneously attributed at various times to both Alexis de Tocqueville and Alexander Fraser Tytler — to keep in mind is:

“A democracy… can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury.”

But it sure is accurate, isn’t it?

I’m not saying that this country has reached the point of no return. But it’s become pretty obvious that Obama and his allies are doing everything they can to get us there.

Will they succeed? You had better do everything you can to make sure the answer is no.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

The simple reason? They want us to be dependent on them so they can keep their cushy high-paid jobs forever. My son one day was amazed that I would think Leaders would purposely let their country’s economy tank. He said “Why would they do that? Wouldn’t it hurt them too if the economy sucked?”. It would, but they would still live in much higher luxury than the rest of the citizens.
    Witness Cuba, or North Korea.
In fact I read a story recently about the Venezuelan Leaders who were wearing Gucci shoes and such, while at the same time preaching to the citizens to be more frugal.

“The simple reason? They want us to be dependent on them so they can keep their cushy high-paid jobs forever.”

I believe it is more sinister and complicated. These elites are eugenics monsters, once on the dole the poor will be subjected to government control:

      Where they live
      What they eat
When and if they have children
Where and what job they will have
Where and what medical treatment if any

Once complete control has been established, the work camps will begin, filled with those poor dependent soles that take government handouts, so that they may be a productive part of the new regime. In a socialist communist regime you are either an asset to the state or an enemy.

      Enemies are elimintated.

History shows this to be true of all communist regimes, consolidate power using the poor, then purge enemies and put all to work for the state.

I’m 52 I’ve worked and Contracted for 40 years. I crushed my right ankle in 78 at 18, I’ve limped my whole adult life. Because of the pre-existing I could never get health care and had to sign off or not get hired many times.
I now have 2 broken ankles and a disc problem, I’m in the 27th week of a 48 week Kemo treatment for Hep C contracted when I crushed the ankle. I was told last year I could slide into cirrois anytime. What would you have had me do ?

Thank You again for your service, My father is also a Vet based in Germany during the Korean conflict where he busted his shoulder when as the driver the steering went out and his tank rolled down a mountain. Wild ride eh !

nobody is arguing the fact that people become disabled….. But it’s in the best interest of the disabled people to make sure that only disabled people are recieving benefits….. Or 4 years from now…. What are you going to do then? The non disabled benefit recievers will just go back to work…. Leaving the disabled with nothin and no way to get benefits. I run into these non disabled benefit recievers daily…. Where would you guess they congregate….. That’s right! The bar!

And recieving disability because your obese! That’s just straight up BS! Considering the number of obese people in America…..

      • Wes McKay

I agree with both of you completely …

They say this is the most important election of our life time …

That could not be truer …

If obama manages to ( fraudulently ) be re-elected he will continue his agenda to ..
        ‘ change America ‘

What he has accomplished so far is just a drop in the bucket.

he MUST be stopped in November …

How WE do this is for everyone to get out and ‘ VOTE ‘

progressive- socialist – communist – liberals … account for only appr. 28 – 34 % of the voting public … obama got elected by these scum-bags because they got to the polls by hook or crook … plus multiply votes, illegals, and the dead.

Voter ID is part of the answer … the othe part is … WE MUST GET OUT and VOTE !

        BUT DO OUR CHILDREN ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Romney / Ryan … will trurn this around or they will go too ! ! ! ! !

FF. thanks for clearing up that the Democrat Party is not a “socialist communist regime” The ONLY people they have put in work camps or eliminated are in the MINDS of people like you and the scare tatics of the those who live their lives in a state of paranoia!
A plan to feed children and the poor to keep them from dying in the streets of becoming health problems is wrong because it has flaws??? WE don’t call off the military aid because everyone can’t hit the bullseye!

As history teaches us neither Marxism or Islamism work and had ended up in disasters of Soviet Union, which failed because it could not feed its people, and Islamism is even worse, and had turned Muslim-majority countries into basket cases that triggered Arab spring, which is ending even in worse disasters. Now the immigrants form hunger from Muslim countries had overpopulated Europe and are coiming to Australia and Northe America demanding their medieval evil sharia incompatible with US Constitution of with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Barak Hussein Obama is both Marxist and ISlamists. He cannnot help it since he grew up in Indonesia with his Marxist Muslim stepfather and his father was a Marxist Muslim from Kanya. Why did his young white mom fall for those humanizer, Marxist Muslims is a mistery which he should explain in a new booki Dreams of My Mother, which he can write after a landslife election in Nobember changes his residence. He can do it as a guest of Saudi king whom he worships, or he can go to his half-brothers in Kenya or join his Muslim Brothers in Egypt or Pakistan.

When Barry was shipped to live with his white graondparents in Hawaii, his grandpa hirded a tutor for him who toought him from the age of 10-18. It just happens that this tutor was Frank Marshall Davis , also a member of Hawaiian Communist Party.

The communism attracted many young people because of its promisse of social justice which then turned into ruthless grabl for power and murdering their oponents in countries where it took hold. Same with Islamism, where Amin al Husseini, the Mufto of Jerusalem, a Nazi war criminal who spent WWII egging Hitler on to murder all the Jews, was a master of deception (improved under Goebbels), murdering his oponents and stealing from his people, as his disciples in the Arab world had been doing since the end of WWII.

Rarak Hussein Obama certainkly does not represent American values of freedom and respect for human rights, which he fakes, while extolling Koran and Islam and dissing Bible. He may have been born in USA, but he certainly does not represent American values. His cavorting with the Islamists of Muslm Brotherhood and Taliban, is not onlly making US soldeirs and US unsafe but the entire Western civlization, is endangered. Obama’s political correctness and Islam have no place in any civilized society which respects freedom and human righgts.

Speaking of Freedom, Thomas DiLorenzo has a new book out which exposes many of the ways Government takes advantage of the people and aides its Crony Capitalists:

From the book — “RCA was prohibited by antitrust regulators from charging royalties to American licensees, so the company licensed its products to Japanese companies instead. This led to the overwhelming dominance of the Japanese electronics industry in the American market place.”

Also from the book — from a Hermann Goering interview — “Your America is doing many things in the economic field which we found out caused us so much trouble. You are trying to control peoples’ wages and prices – peoples’ work. If you do that you must control peoples’ lives. And no country can do that part way. I tried and it failed. Nor can any country do it all the way either. I tried that too and it failed. You are no better planners than we. I should think your economists would read what happened here”.
Hermann was a military leader and a leading member of the Nazi Party who was later convicted of war crimes and sentenced to be executed but committed suicide by cyanide before the execution.
The Nazis started by nationalizing a few industries, then as that proved to be a failure did more of the same (like Government usually does) until eventually the vast majority of businesses were nationalized. So here’s a man speaking from experience.

“[G]overnment theft of private money and redistribution by a government elite is communism not democracy. … Communism has already been tried for over 70 years, and it doesn’t work because people work to support themselves, not their neighbors. When the rewards are confiscated and redistributed to others, people produce less or stop producing altogether. The quantity of “goods in common” declines until the system finally collapses and everybody is hungry, not just “the poor.” Then totalitarianism steps in to force people to produce (ask the Russians, the Poles, the Estonians).”

I thought I would share this link from Hillsdale College. They’re offering, for free, a 10 week online course titled:

“The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism”

The course covers the historical roots and principles of progressivism; its rejection of America’s founding principles and Constitution; its political successes in the New Deal, the Great Society, and in recent years; the ongoing political debate between progressives and conservatives; and the chance of a constitutional revival.

      • Jeff

Do they offer classes in cross or book burning? And must everyone talk like Mark Levin (or should I say Captain Bighamton)?

Here’s a multiple choice for you when you leave the basement:

          A) The Hillsdale course you describe represents a scholarly historic analysis of the roots of progressivism
          B) The Hillsdale course you describe is just right wing Republican political spin with a patina of input from some Ph.D. who’s actually a political hack
          C) You’d learn more balanced history from the archives of the Communist Party.
          D) You’ll never read the course material because you accidentally burned the book with all the decadent Jewish books you meant to burn.

This IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION EVER in our nation. My fear is that Obama will buy the election by bribing the poor and minorities to vote for him in sufficient numbers to elect him. If Congress had done their Constitutional duty, this man and his administration would be in jail (literally treasonous activities and decrees) for many crimes against the Republic. When I vote in November, I intend to vote Republican, so I know that a number of RINOs will get their job back, at least till next time. The only real solution for stopping this overthrow of America is PRAYER, PRAYER, PRAYER. Nothing else has ever worked, despite what the so called pundints and politicians advise us to do. America cannot survive without God’s Favor. I don’t think we have much of it right now.

Whats the different between the Obama administration trying to buy votes from the poor with food stamps and Romney trying to buy votes from the rich with tax cuts?

      • FreedomFighter

“Whats the different between the Obama administration trying to buy votes from the poor with food stamps and Romney trying to buy votes from the rich with tax cuts?”

Food stamps are from tax moneys — basically stealing money from everyone to give to a few. Reduces available cash in the private sector creates less spending and capitol investment.

Tax cuts — reduce government theft of capitol, thus keeping money in the private sector for business purposes and spending that increases jobs

The education system in Austrailia must have been taken over by commies just like here.

        Gilly has a point.
Whether they tax us now or tax us later (to pay back the borrowed money), it will still be a burden on the economy. It is just another form of vote buying and immoral too because it shifts the burden to future taxpayers who didn’t even get to vote in the matter. Of course those future taxpayers will be so heavily brainwashed that they will probably think they can’t tie their shoes without Government help, so they might not even realize that they’re being taken advantage of.

      • DaveH

FreedomFighter says — “Tax cuts — reduce government theft of capitol, thus keeping money in the private sector for business purposes and spending that increases job”.
That’s true, FF, in the short run, but somebody has to pay that money back later, and then the same damage will be done. They have only put the damage off to the future.
There is no substitute for Cutting Spending.

      • Chester

OOOOPPert EEEEpert, if the Romney tax cuts are for all, as you say, why is it that everyone who studies what he wants to do say it will COST the middle class worker twice as much in NEW taxes as it will save the rich man in cuts? I remember Reaganomics 101, and the ONLY people he helped were his friends in the upper levels. Trickle down does NOT work for those at the bottom, as most of what is supposed to trickle down winds up in some offshore account, doing absolutely NO good to our economy.

      • Chester

FF, how do you figure food stamps are taking money from the many to give to the few? Aren’t you one of those who insists the MANY pay NO taxes? If they pay NO taxes, how can anything that comes from the government be taken FROM them? To be really honest about it, why don’t you admit that the working poor pay more taxes per dollar of income than the people making millions of dollars a year? Granted, it may not be INCOME tax, but they pay taxes every day they live/

      • stopspending

Obama is trying to buy votes not only from food stamp reciepients, welfare, disability, extended unemployment, etc but also from hispanics – executive order for dream act, women – FREE birth control , young – pay off college loans and more college grants, unions – unionization of all home health workers and health care workers in Obamacare, and any other special interest he can bribe with our tax dollars.
Romney plans to keep tax rates the same for all groups but also rewrite some of the tax code to elliminate some of the special interest tax exemptions. That will affect the rich that these exemptions were set up to benefit years ago and the middle class can not take advantage of. The left never seems to talk about the changes to the tax code that Romney plans to make.

      • Old Henry

The first is taking from someone and then promising others that they will receive the “stolen” goods i.e. food. the second is letting people have what they have earned. You all see the difference? The only reason to tax more on the millionaires or any other people is so that the government can have more money to buy votes from those that benefit from the taxation. who will then vote every time for even more “benefits” that the government has to steal from even more people. You all see the difference? As soon as this is no longer available then everyone will be forced to work in order for those people to continue with the game of receiving stolen property. i.e. money. You all see the difference?

        • Jeff

So the guy who rides a bicycle and the guy who owns a fleet of limos should pay the same for the cost of building the road? Sound socialistic to you? But it’s OK if only the rich guy owns the road.

The reason the wealthy pay more in tax than do the poor is they have the money to pay and they are the stakeholders (owners) in society. If we go to war to make the world safe for financial empires, who should bear the cost of the war – the workers?

      • Daveh234

OOOOPPert EEEEpert tax cuts and trickle down have never ever worked. Period.

Without the Republican Progressives building the scaffolding for Big Government, the Democrat Progressives would have had a very difficult time taking so much of our Freedom so quickly.
The Republicans are just the other side of the same coin now — Big Government. They give just enough lip-service to Freedom to keep their minions entranced, but judging them by their actions, instead of their words, reveals a different story.

That actually sums up what the obama camp is doing. Blowing off everyone else’s money and no one is being accountable for what they are doing with it. Corruption is so thick that I hope and pray that Romney and Ryan get in and downsize, combine like programs and let programs go, get rid of the duplication as well as clean up the regulations and policies that actually are barriers to goals of each program created. This includes Education, EPA, NLB, jobs programs that government needs to hand over to the private sector because they do a lot of these better. TSA, GSA, EPA, NEA, NLB, VA all of these need either some serious cleaning up and out the corruption, abuse of funds, overreaching policies and so on. States don’t do job programs, daycare, housing, property management/selling, education …so I do believe that the private sector would be more efficient and cost effective which the obama camp is clueless or don’t care about. Maybe the objective is to flood the work place and government with so many regulations and policies and hiring so many people to fill committees and 15-member death panel that we can’t sort the stuff out and stop it before they take affect. The obama care is going to bankrupt 1 out of 6 hospitals and clinics as well as so many doctors or medical staff being cut so we need this gone. Forcing a single payer system has to be the objective to this madness by forcing doctors or medical staff out of business through reimbursements that are already too low they cannot even pay their own staff or meet their own monthly expenses. Amazing to me is that the obama camp knows this and still trying to sell it to the American People and people are still standing by him even though he hasn’t done a positive thing for this Country at all. A sad day for the Country if obama gets reelected again. (I have no respect for obama which is why I won’t put a capital on his name. He hasn’t earned his position and is attempting to strip us of our rights and freedoms. Want him gone so bad.)

Don’t hold your breath for that event, Nadine. Romney and Ryan are part of it.

Thank you Nadine, for a breath of common sense! There is so much disinformation and misunderstanding in almost all the other quotes in this thread that I fear for our future from the current products of what we laughingly call an education. BTW, the Prime Minister of Australia recently told the muslim immigrants to her country to forget sharia; to assimilate into Australian culture or go to another country more to their liking. God bless her.

America love the free lunch, the free healthcare, the free drugs
They trade theif freedom for promises that Barry cannot deliver on
This is the path to servitude.

        • Jeff

Western Europe is in servitude? Canada in servitude? We’re the ones in servitude. If you’re over 50 and have a job, you dare not say anything that could jeopardize it because you might never be able to see a doctor again. That’s what you call freedom? Sounds like the definition of servitude to me.

          • Gea

The safety net that Europe has for its citizens (universal health care, disability etc.) is nice, but it is being severely tested by an influx of 50 millions Muslims from dysfucntional corrupt countries ruled by sharia. These Muslims get all kinds of dole and at the same time preach destruction of their host countries.

US pays for health care 2-3 times that of Europe and the result in health outcome is 34th, the same as Cuba which spends 100 TIMES less than US does! We also have dole for unwed mothers who often have children in order to get more money from the government and those children are abused or left to fend for themselves. There are many young able bodied men and women who are living on the dole and are sluggards who get into trouble from boredeom since they do not work.

Functional country is based on ecnouarging creative work and independence and not corruption, laziness and favoring those who know how to game a system, be it on the top, like bankers and Wall street guys, or welfare moms and dada. The working Americans are paying for both excesses. We DO need change but a Marxist Islamist that Obama is is NOT a kind of change we need.

We need an intelligent manager whose culture promotes work and functionality and does not encouarge sluggards to reporduce.

          • Jeff

Sounds like you would create quite a model for servitude. A Bureau of Intercourse, perhaps with prison time to those who fornicate without a license?

But you have pointed out the reasons the Healthcare Law was enacted. You then revert to ad hominem attacks on Obama, so anything he does must be evil. Recognize this. The Republicans talk about “repeal and replace.” If they succeed in repealing the Affordable Care Act, they will replace it with NOTHING. We will soon be paying 20% of GDP for healthcare, double what other western democracies are paying, with worse results (at least at the low end). Clearly, you recognize this but you can’t support anything Obama supports. The hang-up is yours.

          • Gea

Obama care stinks, because it complicates already extremely complicated system even more, craeting even more intermediaries. It will benefit again large insurance/hospital/pharma complex which pushes drugs and disease as a way to create profits. The universal, single payer system managed by government “bureaucrats” who had no incentive to “manage care” to make larger prophits for their insurance companies, hospitals or pharmaceutical companies, as they also have in France or Germany may be a good solution and save US lots of money and improve health of Americans.

Health care should be totally disassociated from business, which get stranded by paying for extreme costs ot care in US, and canno compete with European companies which do not have to provide health care for their employees becaue it is funded on a national level and prevention of diseases is encouraged.

Obama is dangerous to US, not only because of OBamacare, but because of his general Marxist beliefs and extolling Islam and Koran., while dissing Bible. Islam is incompatible with either US Constitution or with the Univevesal Declaration of Human Rights and MUST REFORM and not be white washed by CAIR, OIC with the help of Obama who let Muslim Brotherhood into the Whtie house. This Muslim Brotherhood of Obama harbors genocidal supremacist ideology of Islam. He will be defeated in a landslide in November before he can inflict more damage to US and Western civlization.

          • Jeff

What “general Marxist beliefs”? Most of the wingnuts on this blog would cite “Obamacare” as exhibit A in support of their “Marxist” arguments. But you seem to be advocating, as do I, a single payer system. Isn’t that more socialistic than anything Obama has proposed? “Marxist” has become a catch-all term of derision, void of all meaning. Like calling someone a jerk.

          • Gea

The “father” of free markets said that there are 3 areas in which govenment needs to be responsible since prophit motive of free markets can not work. Those are defense, education and health care, which define a country, and which help make better citizens and free choices.

Thus having a universal health care (Medicare for ALL, before it was hijacked by drug companies under Bush) like they have in France (which is number one in health outcomes), Israel or Germany is the way to go. The payment is managed by the government, just as millitary is, but it develops markets for providers, without having intermeidaries who make profits on suffering and disease.

Obamacare is NOT socialist by dumb, since it only increases intermediaries and compells citizens to join this expensive fraudulent system where the top dogs of insurance/hospital/phamra companies make super-salqaries on pain and suffering. The providers of care (doctors, nurses, and others with direcct care) need to be directly linked by single payer system, rather then having numerous parasites such out the money from the care, as it si done now, and as Obama care will even increase more, with very little benefits to Americans.

          • Jeff

I agree with virtually everything you say in this post, Gea. What I don’t understand is, in some of your other posts, you resort, as do so many others here, to unsupported, unsupportable, ad hominem attacks on President Obama (“Marxist,” “Muslim,” etc.). You are clearly bright enough to avoid these crutches and say specifically what you mean.

If a foreign policy analyst were to lay a grid over the world and highlight countries successively according to a general classification scheme of socialist, Islamist, (petro-)dictatorship, or liberal democracy, one would find certain broad patterns emerging under the Obama administration. First, there is a tendency to favor socialist countries (including social democracies) over liberal democracies. Second, there is a tendency to favor Islamist movements over more secular dictators and even over liberal democratic Israel in the Middle East. Third, there is a tendency to favor petrodictatorships over other regimes in a given region, and even at the expense of the United States.

The truth is, the food stamp program helps Farmers more than poor people. The food stamp program was designed to give farmers a market for their goods, That was when farmers would over produce and the market would collapse. So the Federal goverment would buy the excess to keep from farmers destroying their crop due to low prices.

Besides, most Wal Mart employes who work full time still qualify for food stamps. I hear that when you apply for a job at WAl Mart, they give you an application for food stamps.

This may be the “bread and circuses”, but it keeps from having food riots. The problem is that working Americans are not making enough. We need strong Labor unions to give these working people a voice. Why did Williy Sutton rob banks? Cause thats where the money is!!!!

    • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Ruth

You are right on! I also resent Congressmen equating Food Stamps welfare benefit with Social Security Disability benefits. We EARN disability benefits . SSDI is NOT welfare. It is ludicrous for a country to expect people who do physical labor for employment to all keep their bodies fuctioning like a young person until age 65.

      • stopspending

Evidently you did not carefully read the article or can not look more deeply at the numbers. There will always be people who are not able to work and the safety net should be there for them. The question is – Why are so many more people disabled now and unable to work than there were three years ago? What has changed to make people in record numbers now be unable to work? It is either a change in requirements from the gov or a change in attitudes of those applying or both. There has not been a national health emergency or natural disaster that has changed the health of so many people.

KG, I ‘d say that the Food Stamps do more good to feed the poor and middle classes and some of the rich too I bet, than the farmers who have to do the work of risky farming, but they benefit too. In Australia I have seen some rich misers get free food and Food Vouchers from the welfare agencies and ive seen millionaires go to soup kitchens for free lunches just so they can save more money….you would be surprised how some rich dress like paupers and some poor dress like millionaires but are living on stolen or borrowed money…much like our generous governments do. However having said that…FOOD STAMPS do have their place in making sure more of the real poor are able to get food, than starve like the africans.

I dont think it would be a good look to have starving millions on American streets for all the world to see during this recession. Far better to continue the FOOD STAMP program than cut it out imo considering the big money being spent on Senators / Congressmen and various layers government administration wages and salaries.

Does anyone remember what happend during the French revolution?

    • DaveH

KG says — “This may be the “bread and circuses”, but it keeps from having food riots. The problem is that working Americans are not making enough. We need strong Labor unions to give these working people a voice. Why did Williy Sutton rob banks? Cause thats where the money is!!!!”.
We would have no problem with Food Riots, if the Government butted out of the economy and quit taking a lion’s share of future Capital Investment from the Private Sector just to be consumed. Think Greece.
Labor Unions don’t give working people a voice, they simply steal from non-Union people — both the non-Union workers who have to pay higher prices for their goods, and the companies who they directly steal money from. When Union Workers make higher wages, where do you think that money comes from? The target companies must either pay their non-Union workers lower wages, or lay people off, or charge more for their products (if they can), or give up and close shop, or move out of the country to someplace where they get a better shake. There is no Free Lunch.
It’s fitting that you equate Unions with bank robbers, KG.

American incomes declined more in the three-year expansion that started in June 2009 than during the longest recession since the Great Depression, according an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Sentier Research LLC.

Median household income fell 4.8 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis since the recession ended in June 2009, more than the 2.6 percent drop during the 18-month contraction, the research firm’s Gordon Green and John Coder wrote in a report today. Household income is 7.2 percent below the December 2007 level, the former Census Bureau economic statisticians wrote.

“Almost every group is worse off than it was three years ago, and some groups had very large declines in income,” Green, who previously directed work on the Census Bureau’s income and poverty statistics program, said in a phone interview today. “We’re in an unprecedented period of economic stagnation.”

      • Jim

If only it was that simple big easy. America is at a SERIOUS intersection. The ruling class in America has finally arrived at a place where the public has very few rights left. Look at WHO is running for office. It isn’t ordinary Americans. The majority of Citizens can not afford to run for office. Those that regularly abuse money and the influence it can buy are completely in control. There is n o longer ANY real difference between the two political parties. BOTH are out to RULE, not govern. The Constitution gives the answer so many have written to ask about, What are we to do? The Constitution and the Bill of rights explains clearly and without any “shading” That when the Government gets out of the control of the Citizens it should be replaced! The US government is arguably out of the control of the Citizen today. Factually, Americans have no real hope of voting out the violators… the rules have been “rigged” Gun control? welfare?? These are nothing more than a vision of the fear that the ruling class has about the American People. Pretty much, the ruling class has engineered things to make it almost impossible for dis satisfied Citizens to take back America for the masses rather than for the elitist ruling class. Think about it! 500 souls control the daily destiny of 300 million Americans. One of two things is going to happen… Americans are going to rebel and overthrow the current elected rulers or America will become the latest failed form of Government. We have a LOT of work to do to get our Country back

Their job is to work for the people, not for themselves and whoever has the biggest pie to give them. I hear gripes about how Obama has done this and Obama has done that, but why, pray tell, do we hear NOTHING about what the house and senate have done other than tell each other NO. This has been especially true of those of Tea Party ancestry, as NO seems to be the ONLY word they know. They may have initiated some legislation that has a snowballs chance of making it through the legislative process, but, if they have, it has made no waves for me to hear about.

Where is the outrage about our governments actions? Along these lines it’s good to read this book cause it’s Americans finally taking a stand against federal tyranny. It’s a must read nowadays cause it so real. I recommend it.

The sad part about all of this is that I am not sure there is much difference between the RINO presidential candidate and Obama or that things are so bad either candidate can hold back the recession/depression in 2013.

    • Chester

Best go check the rules and regulations on getting food stamps if you for one minute think most illegals can qualify. No social security number, no proof of income, no verifiable address, NO food stamps. Why do you think so very few of the homeless can get any help from the government. Even when you have a valid social security number, you have to have a verifiable address AND proof of income or disability, No income because you are out of a job? Guess what, no food stamps. Low income, as long as you ARE working, you are eligible for all sorts of programs, but it seems that you do have to at the very least have a verifiable address to draw even TANF. Everybody on here keeps hollering how easy it is to get all these benefits, but no one bothers to actually go out and try to get them, or find out what is needed TO get them.

      • Nancy in Nebraska

Uhhhhhh Chester, you’re wrong!!! My daughter’s biological mother had three children. The first two were either given up or taken away from her. With the third, she hit the jackpot! She got to move into the salvation army shelter which meant free private room and three meals a day. They also provided the baby with diaper, clothes, formula, everything. She also received somewhat over $200 a month from aid to dependent children. Then she also received a little over $200 a month in food stamps. Since she got all of her food for free, there was a guard at the shelter who would go with the women to the store, get the food, then pay them half it’s value. She had it made. Over $300 a month for free. At some point they even got her own apartment for free. The gravy train ended when she let her boyfriend move into the apartment with her and he beat the baby to death. Without the baby, she no longer qualified for all the free stuff. Her response was “what am I supposed to do now?”. I know for a FACT that it is EASY to abuse the system!!!

False. this is one of the latest lies and myths the Right is trying to spin. it boggles the mind the Right is against the directive. it’s indicative that no matter what the policy, what the direction, what the goal … they place politics above that of nation.

The Directive mr. Wood comments upon and casts it negatively, allows the states to take over the program and operate it without federal intervention. The one condition is that the state program and management show a 20% increase in the numbers working.

Now…how is a directive letting a state directly manage and administer as program as the state sees fit having a requirement to increase the numbers working, a negative?

        1) Hong Kong (a city)
        2) Singapore (who wants to live there? Anyone?, Population 5M)
        3) Australia (a country with the population of NYC)
        4) New Zealand ( Population of 10 million)
        5) Switzerland (Great place as long as you are white, oh and they have Gov requirements for HC too, only a country of a few million as well)
        6) Canada (Gov HC and all, population of 20 some odd million)
        7) Chile (population of 15 million, people are mandated to pay 7% of their salary to their HC by the guvmument)
        8) Mauritius (population 1M)
        9) Ireland (Gov HC and all)

#10 is the United States….the largest country economically in the world, the country that plays the part of the world police. They are number 10…

You’re getting shrill, Dave67. It’s time to take your Valium.

FOOD STAMPS are another form of currency instead of printing more money. If the FOOD STAMPS are used to buy American food produce, then local farmers are benefiting from this new currency being able to sell more produce than otherwise. Its another form of subsidy for small business and the poor middle class cant then complain they cannott afford to buy food. But I bet not all of those Food Stamps are ever used. Does anyone know what percentage are never used or traded for other products or cigarettes assuming that is possible in the USA?

    • Who Knows?

You bet ya, the going rate is fifty cents on the dollar!

      • Flashy

        and you know this how?

      • DaveH

Coming from the guy who rarely (if ever) offers any proof for his assertions.

      • Flashy

Well…since you haven’t linked anything yet, we know it’s not in any title of Mizes articles. LOL

      • DaveH

Unlike you and your Progressive cohorts, Flashman, Mises Institute is a source of reliable information.

      • Johnny

if you sell your food stamps, it is standard that you get half in cash for what you sell, 100.00 in food stamps for 50.00 in cash is the normal going rate….dave has it right there, most people sell their food stamps to pay bills or buy meds…some buy drugs, it just depends on who it is, but most people I know need every dollar they have……doesnt mean they dont work either……when you are the working poor….meaning you are in one of these great minimum wage jobs, you cant afford to pay rent, normal bills and eat…..maybe some of you republicans should get one and see how you just are able to sock all kinds of cash away for retirement and emergencies….and if you are a bracket above, say making 9 or ten an hour, you are one broken vehicle away from the same boat

      • DaveH

Does it mean anything to you, Johnny, that the US Government has grown 13 times the size of the 1900 US Government, and still those poor people are suffering? Doesn’t that make you just a little curious as to why they haven’t delivered on all those promises that allowed them to grow so large?

      • Karolyn

Johnny said “most people sell their food stamps to pay bills or buy meds…some buy drugs, it just depends on who it is,” I challenge you to prove this ridiculous accusation. Of course there are abusers, but there is also a large segment of those receiving benefits that like to eat; and I would venture to guess that they are not abusers, especially since so many more of the middle class have fallen into that bracket.

    • Chester

NO argument when it comes to admitting that some abuse the program, but will say that most of the true food stamp abusers are druggies, and this is simply another way of getting what they “NEED.” It is a little harder to let someone else use your EBT card than to hand them physical stamps, but by the same token, it is harder to catch someone using someone else’s card. All you have to do is swipe the card and punch in the proper PIN number and away you go.

      • dcjdavis

I had a guy approach me in a grocery and offer to buy my groceries on his card if I would then give him half the amount in cash. I said no and he looked at me as if he thought I was incredibly stupid. Made me feel like I really was stupid…but honest. I imagine he soon found some dishonest smart person to take his offer.

  • http://peresonallibertydigest.. gottaplenty

The over desire to get free ,,,anything,, something for nothing . This only serves to show the unethical slime bags that will accept food stamps to begin with is the very downfall of the nation. You can bet there will always be some slimey leader who will offer other peoples money to the ,,Takers, to be re-elected. That is where the people with morals will decline the offer to be a slave.

    • http://yahoo Charles Arthur Williams

So what about the freebies to the rich?

    • Paul Wells

Well, be fair…there ARE some people that are very deserving of food stamps. I quarrel however, with the idea that the vast numbers of people that are drawing them, all deserve them. I believe the procedures for getting food stamp assistance are fairly rigorous in determining need. What I also know for a fact, is the procedures to KEEP them coming are not so rigorous. always…you have some people that falsify their applications and get them that way. But there are some that need them, so don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!

    • Chester

So you consider anyone living on social security payments that, even when SSI is added in, still leave them living far below the poverty line, slime bags that are unfit to live in YOUR world simply because they gladly take those food stamps you so thoroughly despise to put food in their bellies. SIR, YOU are the slimebag who has less right to exist than the roach I stomped on as he scurried away from the sink.

      • DaveH

First of all, it is immoral to forcefully take other peoples’ money. Alas, in this day and age, morality is a rare commodity.
But economically, it just doesn’t pan out. Giving other peoples’ money away to those who didn’t earn it just creates a moral hazard. That is, those who receive the money are inclined to work less to take care of themselves, those who take the money are further emboldened to take more, and the victims of the theft are inclined to work less since they can’t keep the fruits of their own labor. Those conditions inevitably lead to the decline of the economy which hurts all of us, poor or not, except those few who are Politically Connected.
See the countries at the bottom of the list to see where we’re headed if we continue to let the Progressives smooth-talk us into increasing Socialism:

      • GALT

Since the money isn’t real, trade it for real money….or real fruit…..then you will have the “fruits of your labor”………whatever that means…….

You could also learn how not to pay taxes, which would give you nothing to complain about………not even inflation would affect you……

You would be the rugged, self reliant, individualist, producer that you claim to be and an
        example to us all……….

” To conquer, first DIVIDE!” ( and then hang separately )

      • Ted Crawford

You suggest that Social Security leaves one below the poverty line, you are right, of course, itwas never intended to be ones sole source of retirement income! It was ment to be equal to about 1/3rd of anyones retirement income! At that time people were far more personally responsible than now, it was expected that one would secure employment at a business that offered retirement benefits, and then that the individule themselves would have the commomsense to save the other 1/3rd on their own!
That’s what I did, while many of my fellow workers chose to spend their money on newer cars, bigger houses, lavish vacations, now they are in trouble and can’t understand why my Wife and I aren’t, yet that is. If Obama is re-elected, all bets are off!

      • GALT

Actually, Ted when passed in 1935, it wasn’t really intended to pay anyone anything,
because actuarial tables didn’t predict that many people actually surviving to ‘retirement age” in any numbers that would have made it necessary to have a “trust fund”, since current employment and anticipated population growth would have kept the ratio of workers to retirees in line with the pay as you go model……….

Unfortunately, unlike an insurance company, which would have caught the problem sooner
and adjusted the rates accordingly…..the idiots in government “ignored” the problem, used the funds as general revenue, and political capital, and here we are……

Be careful what you wish for……..Romney is far more dangerous to your future on almost every level………

    • Karolyn

“the unethical slime bags that will accept food stamps to begin with”
I would like to see you say that to the children who are hungry, to those who live in Appalachia and many who have had to partake of the program. Would you rather we go back to poorhouses and serious increases of people begging on the streets? Gee, would that we could all be perfect like you.

  • eddie47d

Actually the lousy economy under G Bush put most folks and welfare. Poor leadership from Obama hasn’t helped either. The rising unemployment and the loss of those benefits put more folks on welfare. The private job creators who aren’t producing enough jobs for everyone accelerate those going on welfare. How can we expect Corporates to hire when their CEOs demand and get outrageous salaries and golden parachutes. In reality there is nothing left for hiring which keeps folks on welfare. The Republicans who refuse to get jobs bills passed help keep the welfare rolls extremely high. Those businesses a few years ago who gladly sent jobs overseas increased unemployment here which eventually has lead to more folks seeking welfare. I would put the blame squarely on the shoulders of our do nothing Congress and the lack of Loyalty from American businesses who are making record profits but are also kept in limbo by Democrats and Republicans alike. Lets also not forget lazy Americans who once get on welfare won’t let go. Now take a look in the mirror and pick out your favorite culprit for there are plenty to go around.

    • DaveH

Eddie says — “The private job creators who aren’t producing enough jobs for everyone accelerate those going on welfare”.
And they can do that with what, Eddie, when the Government is taking their money and increasing the expensive regulatory hurdles they must clear?

      • eddie47d

Many regulations were canned years ago which allowed those wealthy job creators to crash the economy. Tax rates have hardly budged either and the job creators were actually given a break on that one.

      • DaveH

You’re equivocating, Eddie. Some rules have been scrapped but over all the number of regulations is bigger than ever:

  • DavidL

Obama has nothing to do with it. It is our social safety net policy and has been the law for many, many years. Here is a brief overview of what it does just for the poor.

“About 13 percent of the federal budget in 2011, or $466 billion, went to support programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship. Spending on safety programs declined in both nominal and real terms between 2010 and 2011 as the economy continued to improve and initiatives funded by the 2009 Recovery Act began to expire.

These programs include: the refundable portion of the earned-income and child tax credits, which assist low- and moderate-income working families through the tax code; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income families and individuals, including food stamps, school meals, low-income housing assistance, child-care assistance, and assistance in meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children.

Such programs keep millions of people out of poverty each year. A Center analysis shows that government safety net programs kept some 25 million people out of poverty in 2010. Without any government income assistance, either from safety net programs or other income supports like Social Security, the poverty rate would have been nearly double in 2010 (28.6 rather than 15.5 percent).”

    • DaveH

That’s it, DavidL. Keep rationalizing while our Country’s economy slips further into the Abyss.

    • Pathfinder

David : your 28% number matches the pretty close to the 35% or !00+ million people that are getting “unearned” government aid. The 35% number does not include SS and medicare which represents 15-17 %.of people who actually paid into the system that adds up to about 50% of the nation “dependent ” on government. All of this “keeping people out of poverty” doubled in the last 3 1/2 years underOBAMA.
If Obama cared about America he would not have allowed the restrictive laws that are choking business and growth, this includes his masterpiece legislation , The AHCA (Obamacare). That single law, with its complexities and Pelosi’s “we will find out what in the law after we sign it ” did more to stifle business than any other legislation. The intricacies of the AHCA will further drive up costs and taxes to unknown levels and thus provide a weak economy and further financial ruin for America and its citizens
OBAMA and his cronies have accomplished “Fundamentally Changing America’ by placing every one that lives in the USA into” financial slavery”.
……………… Welcome to democracy’s version of SOCIALISM !

  • KG

Ya know, sometimes you have to ask your self the question, “Who is the Government?” According to the Constitution, WE ARE! The right powers of government come from the consent of the Governed. Now, we are supposed to have the right to vote. However, when less than 25% of the eligible voters actually vote, it’s hard to say if the consent of the People is really being addressed. And now, with Karl Rove, Grover Norquist trying to disenfranchise as many voters as they can, how could any Americand think these idiots actually want to do what the People want? Ronals Reagan never killed one gay or stoped a single abortion. Think about that.

  • Johnny

okay, let me get this straight, OBAMA is pushing people onto food stamps with a spanish novela that was produced by the FDA in 2008????? UH……wasnt Bush president at that time……and you can say the same thing about every single act a president ever does while he is in office is pandering to some person for a vote………you just CHOOSE to demonize Obama because you dont like him……Republicans, when he was elected decided they would not work with him on ANYTHING and they haven’t… people are on food stamps because they are not making enough money working to live AND eat and pay for a roof over their head……Republicans dont want to increase the minimum wage because let’s face it….most POOR people on food stamps dont vote…..if they did, this wouldnt even be a close election, so for you to say democrats want people on food stamps so they can get votes is foolish…..I think I did see reports on the liberal media that the BLUE states SUPPORT most of the RED states…..meaning the blue states pay more in taxes than they receive in government money and red states receive more money from the government than they pay in taxes……so you should shut your trap….I think it is the RED STATES that are on the government dole

    • KQJM

      Amen to that!

    • Dave67

      Bingo Johnny!

You hit it right on the head… More of the blame Obama game when the blame lies in Reagan, Clinton, Carter, Bush1 and 2 and their Congresses.

This bad economy was not born overnight… its was created over decades…

Notice the debt of this country did not explode until Reagan got his filthy mitts on the economy.

    • DaveH

Johnny says — “okay, let me get this straight, OBAMA is pushing people onto food stamps with a spanish novela that was produced by the FDA in 2008?????”.
Yes, Johnny, let’s get it Straight. Where did Chip say that Obama was responsible for the novela?

Johnny says — “people are on food stamps because they are not making enough money working to live AND eat and pay for a roof over their head”.
So what’s your solution, Johnny? More of the same Bigger Government? Einstein’s Definition of Insanity — Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

Johnny says — “Republicans dont want to increase the minimum wage because let’s face it….most POOR people on food stamps dont vote”.
Do you have any references back up your conjecture, Johhny, that most poor people on food stamps don’t vote?
The minimum wage results in lost jobs. An employer is in the business of making money, otherwise why bother? If they can’t get a decent return on their money, then why would you expect them to put their mental and physical labor into the operation of a business? Given that and market competitive restraints, they have a limited amount of money to devote to hiring people. They hire workers who will give them a return on their investment. So if a worker can only produce, say, $7/hr worth of product but the minimum wage is $8/hr, why would any employer want to hire him/her? So they don’t, and the potential worker goes wanting for a job.
So the Progressive Leaders, in their vote-buying zeals, are really just screwing the poor people who would otherwise have a much easier time of finding a job.

      • Johnny

okay dave, let me get this straight… dont want people to get paid more money because it will affect the profit of business owners, they have a business, they cant pay more than 7.00 an hour because there wont be any profit. SO….a worker who has that job, goes and gets educated so they dont have to work for scrooge, they lift themself out of poverty to become middle class, and guess what, you have another poor sap filling the job that person just left who makes peanuts too….so THAT person needs help…..and you want to gut the programs that help these people who work at these menial jobs make some sort of living…what a great human being you must be to see through your rose colored lenses… the only thing we care about is the poor business owner who cant have an extra caddy or expedition because he has to pay his people a little more money….maybe people wouldnt mind paying a little more for things if they knew it went so people can get off the govt dole……which is how YOU people put it……what FACTS do YOU have that these programs are on ONLY so people can vote democrat…..maybe these programs are there so people are robbing the rich in their gated communities because of the vast difference between one area and another…..I am sure there are many republicans, who are too embarassed or ashamed to post here who have benefitted from these programs when their company laid them off,,,,and they have the skills or education to get another well paying job, not everyone is so fortunate and if we didnt have people who didnt get educated and made 6 figures who would be there to work in your business that pays single digits an hour

      • DaveH

Johnny says — “a worker who has that job, goes and gets educated so they dont have to work for scrooge”.
Scrooge? Johnny, what’s keeping you from starting your own company and paying workers more than they’re worth? Show us how it’s done instead of just giving us lip service.

      • DaveH

Johnny says — “and you want to gut the programs that help these people who work at these menial jobs make some sort of living…what a great human being you must be to see through your rose colored lenses”.
Actually, Johnny, I’m a much better person than you. First of all, I don’t rationalize using Government to steal other peoples’ money, like you do. Secondly, I care about the people who can’t find any kind of work thanks to pretend do-gooders like yourself who won’t educate themselves to the reality of economies. You obviously don’t care about those who can’t find work. I do.
It is you, Johnny, who looks at things through rose-colored glasses, Hoping an Dreaming that your Progressive Policies, which have been proven failures around the world, will somehow work this time.
        Educate yourself, Johnny:

      • Johnny

i guess you would be happy dave, for those who are on welfare or food stamps to work for china wages, 4.00 an hour maybe so that business owners can make a decent return on their investment…..I dont think yanking the rug out from the poor and working poor is the way to make them self sufficient…..unions got formed in the early 20th century because of the things you are promoting…..

  • Gea

Obama’s policies are Marxist Muslim, which lead to dysfunctional people who do not know how to take care of themselves but are bored and get into trouble. BO cavorting with Muslim Brotherhood and tacitly approving their genocidal supremacist ideology is not only making US soldiers unsafe, but US and indeed the entire Western civilization , which is under attack by the supremacist ideology of Islam similar to Nazi supremacist ideology, except that it also promotes dhimmitude, misogyny, pedophilia and murder for Allahu Akbar.

Both Marxism and Islamism are failed ideology which have no place in any country that respects human rights. Obama will lose in a landslide in November, because Americans are waking up to the danger to US and Western civilization that he represents. He can then to to his king in Saudi Arabia or his Muslim Brothers in Egypt or in Kenya ;-)!

    • Flashy

Other than being unable to in any way rationalize your rant…what is it about Obama that makes you believe he is a “marxist” or a ‘muslim”..other than the rotten spiel given out by the controlled TP ?

    • eddie47d

Obama may or may not win in November but he will not lose in a landslide. He is also not cavorting with the Muslim Brotherhood or deliberately making American troops unsafe. You sir are a hate monger who is emotionally unstable.

Our President, Mr. Obama, is not a muslim. He’s about as Muslim as Jimmy Carter. Please tell me one quote from the Bible he was wrong on.

  • KQJM

Look at this chart…. the blue illustrates WELFARE costs as a percentage of Public Debt!!!!

AND, this welfare category INCLUDES expenditures like police and firemen!

I have to say, reading these posts, I wonder if most of you know that WELFARE benefits for adults in most states is LIMITED to 2-5 years total for a lifetime, depending on your state. And most welfare recipients are young white woman with children.

I have never seen such hate, contempt and disdain for the poor as I do in these posts.
When the wealthy hoard money offshore, invest in cheap labor in foreign countries, it leaves more and more of our own citizens with little opportunity to earn a livable wage here…. and you blame them???? Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world, and the single largest employer in this country, suppresses wages to the point where they provide and assist their employees with public aid forms. Why not target the greedy, instead of the poor??? We are subsidizing not the poor, but the rich corporations who refuse to contribute to the society in which they operate! Who refuse to reduce PROFITS to provide livable wages (not ELIMINATE profit, just REDUCE it!)

    • Gea

I used to be a bleeding heart liberal, just like you, Sir. Then several toddlers were killed by boyfriends of their mothers who left those boyfriends to watch the kids. Also, I found out that in my county of 800,000 some 2,500 children are in foster care at any one time because their parents are incompetent to take care of them. Many foster families do it for money since they get $15/day/child so if they take in 3-4 kids they dont have to bother ever working. 75% of black and 45% of white babies are born out of Wedlock and don’t even know who their father is. It is hard enough when there are two functional parents to rise a good new human being and thos children are lucky if their mother is half-way fundtional….or if they have grandparents and aunts and uncles who are willing to take care of them.

We had created a dysfunctional society where on the bottom we have bottom freeders and on the top barakhudas, while the wmall working fish is squeezed between to work their butts off, while the bottom feeders get bored with nothing to do and end up crowding our prison system for drug and alcolchol related crimes.

      • KQJM

YOUR country is not THIS country. Our STATISTICS tell a different story. I’ve provided them. You don’t eliminate ignorance and dysfunction by pounding people deeper into poverty. You eliminate ignorance and dysfunction by providing a path UPWARD, not further DOWNWARD!!! And I am an independent, sir, not a Liberal. I am an evangelical sir, not an Ayn Rand atheist.

    • eddie47d

The thing is GEA is that the wealthy who are supposed to create jobs are not doing so. Are we to look up to these spoilers of our nations economy. Their greed has surpassed even their supporters with slick Stock Market transactions and Insider Trading.Their reckless behavior has not been kind to America either yet since they control most peoples lives in some way then the burden falls on them. When they recover from their self inflicted immoral behavior then maybe the economy can recover. I’m still baffled why more of those “money men” aren’t in prison for the damages they inflicted on our country. Aren’t you?

    • DAVE

Not only that, Walmart has built many factories in China to make the junk they sell. How American is that. I don’t want to hear it’s because of taxes and regulation in the US. It’s because of cheap labor PERIOD. Wake up folks!

  • The Gizmo51

According to Ralph Nader almost 30 million workers earn less that $10 an hour and that’s not enough to live on and wants the minimum wage raised to at least $10 an hour. No wonder so many Americans are on Food Stamps even if working.

In Australia, the minimum wage for adults is more than $10 ph …our farmers are required to pay fruit pickers a miminum wage of $19.50 per hour…. we could do with some of your underpaid workers to apply to move to Australia as we have trouble convincing our unemployed on welfare to go do some work any work even at $19.50 per hour . The rates are lower for 15- 18 year olds though working at KFC etc.

I might suggest to some of our Australian companies to set up businesses in USA if they can get good workers at $10 per hour…sounds cheap but not as cheap as in Thailand who offer workers at $1.50 per hour….and in China it must be cheaper still….might explain why you can buy a timber house from China at a much cheaper price shipped out in a Container at less than half the price you can buy and build the houses in the USA for….could explain why your unemployed are likely to remain unemployed for some many years to come..?

    • DaveH

Why are Americans on Food Stamps?
Government Spending in 1900 — 3% of GDP
Government Spending now — 40% of GDP
My mother used to tell me that money doesn’t grow on trees. Unless of course they are Federal Reserve trees.
Government is robbing us blind, and you Progressive Followers wonder why so many are on Food Stamps?
Read this Free book and unchain yourselves from the Government Propaganda:

One could equate Republican members of Congress who are not in power to be welfare recipients also, because they are being paid too much more than the poor unemployed. It could be said that the losers in an election campaign should not receive such large payments.

If a any country offers tax cuts [ie a reduction in the level of theft] but continues to spend money on various programs buy borrowing more, then I do agree with DaveH, those tax reductions will only be loans until such times as those loans have to be repaid and the taxes will have to be reintroduced at a much higher rate on those who are earning the income…the rich always end up paying. The poor dont have anything to give so those who have are the ones the the government will steal from more and more. The wealthy cant get out of paying taxes as the poor remain poor and i dont thing anyone has worked out how to get blood out of a stone.

IMO its a falacy to expect that if you save a little money on the FOOD STAMPS your offer [which IS WELFARE by another name] that the rich will pay less tax, because short of shooting the poor…someone has to pay to look after these people or do we have magicians amoungst us here today.

The rich and middle classess always end up paying one way or the other NOW or LATER. PAY NOW OR PAY LATER,,,,THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO OPTIONS.

If you feel you are being over run by mexicans, then maybe you might like to pass the burden onto the next generations, but the chances your children if still rich will have to pay with higher taxes….

    Whats the solution guys? lol

  • KQJM

According to Forbes magazine, Obama has spent less than any other President in recent history. You can see the graph comparisons here:

So ask yourself why this article is drumming up hate to target the most vulnerable of society…. while they focus your attention here, what are you NOT looking at?

This is the same tactic a magician uses….. displace attention so they don’t notice what’s going on right under their noses elsewhere.

This is not a government site that Dave refers us to, nor can I find who is behind it no about information and none of the charts identify corporate welfare specifically and this is a much bigger part of the pie than the welfare slice shown. I guess political power and corp money now trump the good of the country….

    • DaveH

What did Chip say that was dishonest, Dave67?
      Be specific please.

      • Dave67

“Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole”

That is an outright lie… Congress plays a role here not just the President #1

“Nancy Pelosis say Obama should wear the “food stamp president” as a badge of honor …

No context about how and why it was uttered…Why would a right wing hack put the words into context? Sort of like “You didn’t build it”… Pelosi was talking about the alternative in a recession that people didn’t have enough money to eat.

“Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.”

This is a loveley bit of BS.

Obama gave the Governors local control to get people back to work as long as they show measurable gains in that regard. Many GOP governors also signed off on that desire as well… Including one Willard Mitt Romney, Haley Barbour, and the head doofus from TX Rick Perry

Here is the letter if you care to read it.

        Thats for starters…

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — ““Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole”
That is an outright lie… Congress plays a role here not just the President #1″.
That doesn’t stop you when you’re talking about Bush, Dave67. Why is that? Of course, I know it’s because you’re a hypocrite.
But Obama has veto power over anything Congress passes. And if he didn’t approve of such, I sure haven’t seen that disapproval. Maybe, Dave67, you could link us to a reference of such disapproval?

      • JeffH

Dave67, you have no credibility at all posting a link to an Obama run website and railing others over mises, cato, heritage et al.

I suppose, using your argumentum ad nauseam, it can be said that your referenced source drives your thought process.

        Excuse me while I puke!

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — “No context about how and why it was uttered…Why would a right wing hack put the words into context? Sort of like “You didn’t build it”… Pelosi was talking about the alternative in a recession that people didn’t have enough money to eat.”.
The “you didn’t build it” is right here for anybody who doesn’t believe it to see. Straight from the donkey’s mouth:
I will post the long version in the following comment for those who insist that it was taken out of context.
Anyway, Dave67, feel free to provide that context to us. Since you think it was taken out of context, you obviously have seen the full version, so post a link, Dave67. You surely don’t think that any of the regular readers are going to take Your word for it?

      • DaveH

        Full version of Roanoke speech:

      • Dave67

        Sorry DaveH,

I never blamed Bush 2 for the economy, the main culprits were not Bush 2 although he helped. Stop the misinformation DaveH, of I forgot, that is what you do.

Did not read the letter did you? Thought not… Go back and stick your head in the sand and wait for further RNC instruction on what to think.

      • DaveH

Dave67 says that Chip’s statement — “Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.” — “is a loveley bit of BS”.
Yet the TANF memorandum issued by HHS says:
“HHS is encouraging states to consider new, more effective ways to meet the goals of TANF, particularly helping parents successfully prepare for, find, and retain employment. Therefore, HHS is issuing this information memorandum to notify states of the Secretary’s willingness to exercise her waiver authority under section 1115 of the Social Security Act to allow states to test alternative and innovative strategies, policies, and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families”.
Since when does the President have the ability to change laws? Only Congress can do that legally. Now we know that Dave67 is all for Dictatorship, but are you, Folks?
Those who want to do further study on this issue should also read the article that Chip linked to.

      • Dave67

        For DaveH

        Here is the speech…

“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. ”

So now here comes the part where conservatives lie…

****Somebody invested in roads and bridges.***** If you’ve got a business — *****you didn’t build that.*****Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet

If you see what I starred when Obama said “You did not build that” he was referring to the roads and bridges…

The conservatives lied clearly…. But the conservatives always lie to get more power…

        They did it here

This is nothing new… With as much research as you say you do, you should know this… But then again, you are a proven huckster.

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — “I never blamed Bush 2 for the economy, the main culprits were not Bush 2 although he helped. Stop the misinformation DaveH, of I forgot, that is what you do”.
        Misinformation? Are there 2 Dave67′s?

      • DaveH
      • DaveH

        Yet another — “″

      • DaveH
      • Dave67

Once again… DaveH is full of misinformation and disinformation… DaveH is now playing the role of Stretch Armstrong saying I want a dictatorship because Obama gave the Governors including Mitt Romney, Haley Barbour and Rick Perry the flexibility to get people back to work and if they circumvent the welfare law, they must show MEASURABLE results to do so…

DaveH, I thought you did not like the Fed Gov controlling our lives? You just proved yourself a phony yet again…

Ronald Reagan, George W Bush went around congress to change immigration law or did you forget?

Keep on going DaveH, you are showing everyone here that you distort, whine and play the poor little victim when you been caught in your BS.

        More DaveH BS exposed….

      • DaveH

And before you start your next equivocating comment, Dave67, here are my exact words — “That doesn’t stop you when you’re talking about Bush, Dave67″.
Did I say anything about economy?
The thing is, Dave67, you are a chronic liar. Apparently you can’t help yourself. That’s why you have no credibility with the regular readers.

      • DaveH

Seek help, Dave67, you are one sick puppy.

      • Dave67

LOL… All those links you gave does not attribute Bush to anything but what HE is responsible for… Bush 2 is responsible for the 3T Iraq debacle, Bush is responsible for the 1.7T tax cuts while at war, Bush 2 is responsible for the Medicare “reform to the tune of 600B.

Did I say Bush created the hosing bubble? No… Did I say Bush was responsible for the trade policies we have? No…. Did I say Bush was the starter of tax cut and spend? No….

Go back and try again Stretch….

      • DaveH

Do you really think you’re fooling anybody, Dave67?
        You have no credibility.

      • JeffH

Dave67, I had no intention of reading “the letter”, that has nothing to do with the point I was making. Of course I do realize that is a little to complicated for someone who relies on information provided by Obama and his minions to understand.

      • Dave67

Of Course you won’t read the RGA letter because it runs off message of your GOP masters…

Like I said, you go back home and wait for further RNC instruction….

      • JeffH

Dave67, like I said before…you missed the point of my comment…your attempt to re-direct is futile.

Perhaps you’d have better luck spreading your bile on the Newsvine, Daily Kos or the Democratic Underground blogs. I’m quite sure they’d be more receptive to you progressive trolls over there.

      • Dave67

Yes, stay in the bubble… Don’t ever leave the bubble…Even though I provided a link to disprove the BS in the article that is germane to to discussion..

Don’t leave the bubble… The world is a scary place and it is clear that conservatives are the most frieghtened group in this country. You actually may have to challenge your belief system if you did… and that is super scary for people like you.

  • mark

The federal money spent on the poor and unemployed working class and middle class is a drop in the bucket compared to the massive corporate welfare and tax subsidies for the mega-capitalists. Romney and his country club buddies will massively increase these advantages for the rich, the corporate pigs, and the military killing machine, while he cuts social programs, education, infrastructure, etc. Get ready for massive increase in unemployment if Romney wins 14% in the official unemployment rate up from the current 8% rate and 25% poverty up from the current 16% official rate.

    • Dave67

The poor and middle class’s solution is simple… create an army of lobbyists on K street and go to $1000 a plate dinners for the politicians… The bottom 50% that own 2% of this country’s wealth can surely do that can’t they? Thats how the wealthy get their policy passed…

Israel has new friends in the “Tea Party” after they paid people like Ben Quayle and the rest of the freshman GOP clown posse to come to Israel on a vaca… I mean “fact finding” mission.

Conservatism as practiced in this country is a mental disorder.

The Conservatrons also want the bottom 50% to pay more income tax if you listen to their BS, because they have the money…

      • DaveH

You’re not talking about Conservatives, Dave67. You’re talking about NeoConservatives.
For those not familiar with the disinformation tactics that are used by Progressive shills like Dave67:

At any rate, instead of making blanket accusations, how about being more specific, Dave67?

      • Dave67

Note DaveH uses the tern Necon because conservatives are NEVER responsible for anything…

Why does DaveH and the rest of the conservative Cabal ever use the term neoliberal?

Conservatism… it means never having to be responsible for anything.

      • DaveH

More adolescent manipulative attempts by Dave67.
Seek Help, Dave67, you need it badly.

      • Dave67

        Truth hurts doesn’t DaveH?

I never hear you say one bad thing about conservatives… You say people like Bush 2 simply are not conservatives to sidestep reponsibility or a person is a Neocon once they gain real power and the true nature of conservatives in this country is exposed.

Once of these days you will learn to think critically, but obviously that day is not today.

    • eddie47d

We have been subservient to Israel for decades. We have become a complete patsy in the Middle East to all nations involved.

      • Gea

Israel is the ONLY functional democracy in the Middloe East, surrounded by dysfunctional Muslim majority countires that blame all their problems on Jews and America, refusing to take responsibility for their own lives, just ,like many welfare people do.

With Islam staging war against Western civlization (there are already 50 millions of Muslims in Europe who had replaced 6 millions of Jews that Nazi murdered with the help of local anti-semitic populations, Israel had become the first line of defense of the Western civliztaion against this supremacist ideology of Islam, very similar to supremacist Nazi ideology, in addition to dhimmitude, misogyny, pedophlia, and murder for Allahu Akbar. America also sends billions of oil to Saudi Arabia, which finances Islamic terrorism around the world, preaching hatred of Americans and Jews in mosques around the world.

      • Dave67

Ask the Muslims in Israel how well that democracy is working out for them?

        • Gea

As long as those Muslims in Israel respect the law and do not try to murder Jews and Christians, they do OK, and for most part would never move to ANY Muslim majority country in the neighborhood. The Muslims in East Jerusalem are terrifies that they may be ruled by Fatah or Hamas if Israel give up this part of Jerusalem for “peace with Palestinians”. Israel is the only true democracy where the rights of ALL are respected. The Bahai’i supreme council is in Haifa, even thgough Bahaiu’i religion comes from Iran, where they are persecuted. There was no wall between Israel and West Bank when I lived in Israel from 1971-1976, and the wall is a consequence of terrorist attacks by Arabs on Jewish cafes and buses.

Arabs had attacked Israel in order to annihilate it in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 wars in numerous intifadas and rockets are still falling almost daily from Gaza on Israeli towns. Israel has a right to defend itself from terrorism coming from Muslims surrrounding it, especially when Egypt is ruled by Jihadeists who again are beating war drums. In addition there is Ahmedinijad who want to “wipe Israel from the map of the world”.

When 9/11 happened those “poor Palestinians” were on the roof tops celebrating “greatness” of AL-Quada. Koran and Hadith teach Muslim kids to hate Jews and Christians and kill infidels.

Some of the wealthy accept or seek welfare as a means of getting back some of their taxes…is that fair? Could it be said it was fair for a taxpayer whose income is stolen by big government to steal some of it back?

Then we have many large corporations who live on government contracts paid for by the taxes paid for by the middle classes…Is that not coroporate welfare too?

    Any opinions guys?

    • DaveH

There is nothing “fair” about Big Government redistributing other peoples’ wealth, whether to the rich or the poor. It is just Theft.

  • uvuvuv

they keep saying obama has been fomenting a racial divide. well now we have whites repeat whites signing up for food stamps, breaking down one barrier between them and the blacks and hispanics. y’all, y’all brother, y’all! they sit there for 99 weeks on the u/e dole while in years gone by they were scanning the want ads within hours of being laid off. the food stamp program would be an excellent way to teach nutrition by the usda, an opportunity wasted. the food stamps should only be acceptable for potatoes, split dried peas, oatmeal, frozen ground beef, corn flakes, margarine, flour, sugar and shortening, rice and powdered milk. if they don’t like this diet they can go to the many food pantries where they can even get chocolate eclairs, pizza and lasagna. you should see the suv’s outside the pantry here. if mr respectable white can’t swing the $600 truck payment, why, he can get his groceries free and the miracle can happen. another point, they should designate certain check-out lines for food stamps only, with a big sign.

    • Chester

Funny thing is, WHITES have been using food stamps and commodity programs every bit as long as the blacks and hispanics. Oh, and you think a white man, or a black man,for that matter, that just got laid off from a decent paying job isn’t scanning the want ads almost as soon as he has that pink slip in hand, you have another think coming. Would YOU rather live on three hundred a week, that MIGHT meet mortgage and utility payments, or be out and WORKING for twice what unemployment pays, if not more? Oh, and to KEEP that unemployment money coming, you have to demonstrate, continuously, a good faith effort to find work, including places contacted, names and phone numbers of who you talked to and what you learned. Being unemployed and drawing unemployment checks is no stroll through the park, by any means. Apparently you have never been unemployed, or else have never, ever applied for any payments.

    • eddie47d

The Conservative continually say no one can tell anyone else what to eat or what is nutritious. So even those on welfare demand junk food and high quality products at the supermarket for nutrition and common sense can’t be taught.

    • uvuvuv

i stand corrected but i do wish you could see that food pantry parking lot. i used to donate to them until the cars i was parking by started looking better than my own. also i still maintain that the food stamps should be redeemable for basic commodities only. i admit there is one kickback to the hammock approach to the 99 week vacations, and that is social security averages your 35 best income years, and if you have a couple big zeros there you either get a smaller benefit or you work two more years to make it up. yes, someone at age 26 would never factor this into his leisure plans, that would be 40 years into the future, but the years will go by in any case and he will be short shrifted sooner than he thinks. for example, my first full working year was 1972 and i made $5600. who would guess back then that this would tick away in that 35 year average, and finally emerge in 2008? why, i even wondered if there would be a 2008.

    • uvuvuv

oh and i should have qualified that, illegal hispanics. and in a backhanded way i was trying to say, don’t point any fingers at the blacks if your oh so hardworking whites are butting their way first in line for the handouts. that’s the trouble with these postings, you have to be so specific and painstakingly precise if you don’t want to be misunderstood.

  • Chris

How about contacting our reps, senators, and president to get a bill passed stating that if the people do not agree with what one in office is doing after being elected, then they can be kicked out of office………..we should NOT have to wait until an “election” to “vote in” just “another” one who does not care. The only way we are going to get into office those who are going to do “right” is to kick out those who are doing wrong. I guess they will all vote against such a bill, but how else can we get them kicked out without having to wait for an election? We can’t just let them continue to run amok making matters worse for the duration of their term……..this has got to stop. “They” are working for “us”…….. taxpayers are paying their salaries so we should be able to say whether they stay or go……….after a warning, of course. And……the “taxpayer” should have the final word in “how” our tax dollars are used…….”we” should be the ones voting on where our money goes so it STOPS BEING WASTED………..or maybe “they” will listen to us if we complain enough, but everyone complains to each other instead of contacting their congresspeople and the president………..people need to be more proactive and put their complaints in writing so look up the addresses for your representative and senators today, keep it handy, and start writing………’s Obama’s:

    email –

Of course it’s always better to put it on paper and mail it if one has the time:

    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20500

emailing the president and advisors: )

    • nw

Are you kidding? What makes you think Congress will even consider something like this? They don’t even abide by the laws they do make and they most certainly will not pass a law to put themselves out of office. They make the laws to benefit themselves only, serve one term and get retirement benefits for life, they are exempt from obamacare, they are allowed inside trading, enter service as middle income, come out a millionaire. They are only there to line their own pockets and you think they would even consider putting a stop to their meal train?
Wake Up, check out Paul Ryan’s record. He voted for TARP, the bailout, the stimulus, you name it and he was there with his Yea vote. It’s just a revolving turnstile. Reform has to be at the State level, it’s too late at Federal, but getting involved locally will make the difference. Go to and just do something!!!

    • Dave67

      Yes Wes,

We must allow the banks to consolidate their power in this country’s government on the backs of the poor and middle class…

      Bush/Cheney 2012!!! Thats who is running right? I can’t tell the difference….

      • DaveH

After all the time you’ve been here, Dave67, you should know better. That leads me to suspect that you are just lying.
Yes, the bankers have been running our country for a very long time for their own benefit. But they are equal opportunity employers. They use Democrats as well as Republicans to feather their nests.
        Here, Murray Rothbard names names:,%20Banks,%20and%20American%20Foreign%20Policy.pdf

      • Dave67

I already showed you who all the banks are behind in a major way this election. I know both are doing the banks bidding, but Romney will be their rubber stamp just like the GOP always are.

      • Jay

Dave67 knows better, DaveH. He’s just being his usual self; a-hole!

      • Dave67

        Sticks and stone little boy…

I have given you blind conservative followers who is donating to who… Romney is bankrolled by the people that screwed this country.

You vote for Romney, you vote for more of the same crap that sunk the economy in 2007.

      • Dave67

        Hi Jay,

I apologize, I misread your post… the “a-hole” is meant for DaveH. He can’t help himself… He needs to feel important among the the least educated. He seems to think is fact when it is not. It is theory.

He is looking extra foolish today… More than usual.

I am still looking for the country that matches the ideal… One day he may find it…

        On mars….

      • Dave67

Obama is not the Teddy Roosevelt we needed for sure but lets not forget Congress plays a huge role in banking regulation and their attempt to do “SOMETHING” Dodd-Frank is not being funded by the GOP so that leaves?

Thats right, nothing is being done…

Romney will be a rubber stamp to the banks exactly like Bush was.

The banks should be broken up and highly regulated to stop the shenanigans they have engaged in that played a big part in our economy tanking.

We need new parties that will hold corporations to what is good for the country, not theirt bottom lines only.

      • DaveH

Pay attention to Dave67′s posts, Folks. He is a good example of the kind of “compassionate” Progressives who want to run your personal lives.

      • DaveH

Thanks for posting, Dave67, I couldn’t wake people up to Progressive thinking without your help.

  • KG

If obama manages to ( fraudulently ) be re-elected he will continue his agenda to ..
    ‘ change America ‘
Sorta like what Bush did in 2000?

  • Raymond Carl Hardie

After reading the posts on this site, it becomes apparent that this article is highly controversial. I have not seen any of the food stamp commercials mentioned, but I have seen family and friends who would not be able to eat regulary without food stamps. I personaly do not have any food stamps, but I see our national problem of too many people out of work, and available jobs which pay wages too meager for sustaining basic necessities and housing. Part of the problem appears to be Americas economic decline which is contributed to by globalization. The recent statistics from the IMF in May of 2012, give a startling picture of how the US is doing compared to all industrialized Nations. The original assessment of Chinas economic rise by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in 2009, estimated that China would surpass the US by Jan 2016 as the Worlds monetary leader, but this year 2012 in late march they revised that estimate and said that China now leads the US with a stronger currency. They sighted the following statistics, as of the end of fiscal year 2011 : Even with the world wide slowdown industrial output was , US= 1.7%, China= 9.2%, Unemployment was, US= 8.5%, China= 3.0%, Economic strengths are, US= 15 Trillion in debt, little recognizable reserves, China= no registered debt with 3.2 Trillion in cash reserves and they called into notice that more countries are moving away from the US greenback in trade as American debt spending continues, and our markets are foreign driven through global ventures by US corporations, while China currently operates at over 6 Trillion dollars of assets in world markets everyday. Add to this mix the fact that the trade alliance called the BRICS now has a growing membership of the wealthiest industrialized nations including Japan, and Hong Kong, not to forget that Russia as of June 2011 surpassed Saudia Arabia in daily oil production and they are still drilling for more. These are open record facts from the International Monetary Fund on world economies. I believe that the US should return to isolationism until we can reassert ourselves economically. We must as a nation decide to let the countries of the world manage their own affairs without our assistance, and we need to bring the factories back here along with the technologies they are giving to these foreign entities who in hindsight are now using what we have given , to the undermining of our National Sovereignty and outright threat to our National Defense.

This is another Republican Drived Lie Letter to the Public! The entire mechanism would have come to a screeching halt if Mc Cain and Palin had have won in 2008! I actually wish they had so the world Bush had created by letting his buddies loot the Riches Clinton created could have spiralled out of control! I wish you would just be honest about your Racism it’s so much more appealing to be Honest!

    • Shelia

      amen Brigitte

    • deerinwater

I’ve thought along those same lines before. That the GOP’s economic track record could actually be worse, is hard to imagine. They seems to be able to keep a straight face and ignore their current track record , if it was any worse I’m not sure it would matter and they could ignore it just as easily. They find a way to blame it on someone other then a GOP administration. They will go back in history to 1913 now!

      • Jay

Well, you know the game deer, or at least you should by now. Someone has to play the bad-cop if you want the charade to work. It could have been the other way around, i suppose, but it doesn’t really matter. The fact is, both are laughing all the way to the bank, while we sit here scratching our heads trying to figure out why is it that, no matter what we do, say, or vote, nothing changes.

  • JCfromDC

This is appalling. I was on/off this program when I really needed it. Remained on it AFTER I “needed” it. Became involved in scams turning it into cash for Bus fares and pocket money. I have not been involved for several years now. But, there are an outrageous number of “mom & pop” convenience stores who regularly “convert” SNAP, or EBT card bennies into cash at 30-50% on the dollar and get away with it. Up to and over $100 a month for INVIVIDUALS. Millions a day are being converted for drug, alcohol and “other” abuse money by small businesses and “consumers.”. The whole program has become a vast government-sponsored criminal enterprise, subsidized by taxpayers. The flagrant abuse of this in Lee County/Ft. Myers, Florida area, is enough to blow anybody’s mind, and this is only a very small town. I can’t imagine how this is buried in big cities.

    • http://Yahoo Brigitte

criminals always find ways to use legitimate programs! It’s not new!! Selling EBT is to them like scalping concert or sporting event tickets!

    • Chris

Good one JC……….I’ll be forwarding your words to Obama!

    • Flashy

Hokayyyy…you say you were ‘in” the program and took advantage of the scam for cash. now you have remorse and are stating you’re outing the abuse.

hmmm….never went and reported the scammers eh?

After decades of neoconned policies, that allowed our homes, retirement, productivity and tax base to be gambled off shore, off budget WAR fronts and record ob$truction to sustainably Made in the US and tax base, again, by the free to privatize & monopolize profiteers…they love it when we fight amongst ourselves over the crumbs, while they socialize the unfolding costs/casualties of their toxic assets, with global, generational ripple affects. Unconscionable!

    • DAVE

Yep! And it’s all by design. Remember, many Nazis came here with Prescott Bush after WWII. You can see their tactics at work and it’s pretty amazing. First, they convinced way too many people that the media is “Liberally biased” which is hog wash. Then, they created their own “Media”. The sad thing is, most of the pure [expletive deleted] thew spew can be easily disproved with a little research (and I don’t mean research on Newsmax or drudge) and or thought. Thinking is now verboten though. People have their thoughts and ideas fed to them by Rush, Beck, et al. Why do goons like that make the kind of money they do? They’re useful to the oligarchs that are really controlling our lives.

Under orders of the creditor (the Federal Reserve System and its private owners) on April 5, 1933 President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Presidential order 6102, which required all Americans to deliver all gold coins, gold bullion, and gold certificates to their local Federal Reserve Bank on or before April 28, 1933.

Any violators would be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned up to ten years, or both for knowingly violating this order. This gold was then offered by the Fed owners to any foreign, non-U.S. citizen, at $35.00 per ounce. Over the entire previous 100 years, gold had remained at a stable value, increasing only from $18.93 per ounce to $20.69 per ounce.

Since then, every U.S. citizen (by virtue of their birth certificate) has become an asset of the government, pledged at a specific dollar amount to pay this debt through future taxation. Thus, every American citizen is in debt from birth (via future taxation), and is, for all practical purposes, property of the creditors, the privately owned Federal Reserve System.

Presently, the United States Government (which again, is completely owned and controlled by the international bankers) continues to forfeit its sovereignty by entering into international monetary and trade agreements which abolish almost all forms of trade tariffs that previously protected not only the value of American commercial productivity and workforce labor, but which were also a substantial source of revenue for the government.

The loss of this revenue, as well as the expanding deficits created by recent massive reduction in taxation for large corporations and the very wealthiest citizens, insures continued borrowing by the government. This self-perpetuating cycle of borrowing is made possible only by the ability of the government to guarantee repayment (of only the interest, never the principal) through future taxation on the earnings of every American citizen.

Due to our banking history of deception, fraud and counterfeiting, which only benefits the purported elite bankers and their underlings, the borrowed principal itself is being used to make the payments on our debt at interest, thus, it is mathematically impossible to pay off.

We are, therefore, obligated to continue this cycle of borrowing indefinitely, causing complete money slavery for life. The amount owed will expand endlessly, until our monthly payments exceed our income, we are bankrupt, and all we have acquired in this lifetime is pillaged from us. Or, until the privately owned Federal Reserve System is ended and all debts are terminated.

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers…..
In a nutshell – I’m not even sure who to believe anymore no matter what side of the fence they sit on.
I have nothing against the man as a person; just as a president….he’s not fit to hold office. He was elected on face value and promises of ‘We Are The World’ hope and change– no one bothered to do a little research (I know, it would have taken away from tweeting or facebooking). He’s not a statesman, he’s not a leader, and he’s even a worse politician – and in the world of politics that’s saying something.
If any other president came close to the crap he’s gotten away with he would have been burned at the stake long ago.
I cannot fathom another term with him – give Romney a chance and if he doesn’t get it right then vote his butt out too. The president’s job, his ONLY job, is to uphold and defend the US Constitution – everything else is politics.

    • Shelia

the economy and everything else will be awful if Romney if elected

      • Pathfinder

Sheila; Are you really saying things can get worse? You must be very well off and enjoy a level of comfort enjoyed only by the Imperial class of politicians that we elect to office.

Everything you posted above agreed with the liberal and democratic viewpoint and disagreed with conservative and liberties viewpoint. Your a Liberal! own it and move on. We all know your a liberal, “WE CAN READ YOUR POSTS”.

  • Chuck

I think that any government program is sort of justified when it starts, but then it always wants to grow. They may try NOT to fix the original situation, because that would end their jobs. They may not fix it anyway, because they’re the government and they’re inefficient and ineffective, although they seem effective doing the wrong thing. In any event, they want to grow, so they take on more activities, each generally less justified than the last. Even harmful.

Also, the more things the government is doing, the harder it is for the people to know what’s happening.

At the very least, the government shouldn’t be pushing for more people to get on programs, like advertising.

I thought the advertising for food stamps in spanish is in Mexico. If so, they’re also inviting more illegal immigrants.

Maybe we need to adopt the British idea of being able to call elections at any time.

    • Chuck

I should expand – if Obama gets reelected, he could REALLY get power-crazy. If we could call for a new election, he’d be less dictatorial, and if he was dictatorial we could get rid of him, hopefully before it’s too late.

      • DAK

And if and if and if… If Romney gets elected he could go to war with Iran, Syria, Korea and Mexico all at the same time. Romney could reduce taxes for anyone making over 1 mil a year to zero and raise everyone else’s by 80% to make up for the shortfall. Romney could do anything… same as Obama. So lets not go to the “what if” game. Like Newt said “Obama hasn’t, but he might” and you play right into that line of reasoning.

Instead of telling us why we should all hate Obama and vote against him, wouldn’t it be better to tell us why to vote for Romney? Or don’t you know either?

“The Department of Agriculture moved Friday to “cease future production” of advertisements that encourage people to go on food stamps, has learned, following criticism over what was described as an “aggressive” campaign to grow enrollment.”

“The department had come under fire for a 10-part series of Spanish-language “novelas” that trumpeted the benefits of the food stamp program.”

“The radio ads were produced in 2008, but continued to be available for use.”

    Read more:

So Chip , it’s looking like this program of 10 “novelas” were inspired, approved, crafted and funded sometime in 2008 under the W Bush administration as strange as it may seem according your own link.

Let me see if I can’t find out more.

“Food stamp enrollment certainly shot up during the Great Recession, though it had been rising for more than a decade.

President Bush launched a recruitment campaign, which pushed average participation up by 63% during his eight years in office.

The USDA began airing paid radio spots in 2004.
President Obama’s stimulus act made it easier for childless, jobless adults to qualify for the program and increased the monthly benefit by about 15% through 2013.”

I’d offer you the link, it;s CNN but it would throw my posting into moderation and delay posting.

Oh! we’re free alright, but you must undrsand the definition of free. Freedom merely means “status”, like serfdom. Liberty on the other hand is a gift of God, the freedom to a moral people. You can lose it by acting immorally and that’s what Americans are experiencing.

  • Larry D. Miller

I thought providing for poor children was a Christian virtue.

    • The Christian American

Socialism is the way a society operates. America practiced voluntary socialism. A system wher fthe people took care of each other, without government involvment. It was the Christian way. Now were practicing involuntary socialism. A system where the government uses coercive force to take the wealth of the nation from the producers and doles it out to people living by their rules. It postures itself so that those on the dole will out number the producers in the voting box. It always leads to a tyrannical form of government. Divide and conquer.

      • cawmun cents

You do know that trying to explain logic to a progressive liberal is like teaching an earthworm to read, right?

  • DAK

    From Politifact:
    Our ruling

Romney’s ad says, “Under Obama’s plan (for welfare), you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check.”

That’s a drastic distortion of the planned changes to Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. By granting waivers to states, the Obama administration is seeking to make welfare-to-work efforts more successful, not end them. What’s more, the waivers would apply to individually evaluated pilot programs — HHS is not proposing a blanket, national change to welfare law.

The ad tries to connect the dots to reach this zinger: “They just send you your welfare check.” The HHS memo in no way advocates that practice. In fact, it says the new policy is “designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families.”

The ad’s claim is not accurate, and it inflames old resentments about able-bodied adults sitting around collecting public assistance. Pants on Fire!

So, like the site said yesterday… “What would happen if the Media told the truth?”

  • Thinking About

For those opposed to abortion, this is what you get, babies are born to those unable to care for them. What needs to happen now is the anti-abortion group should get together and provide for those children. Even Mitt claimed there was programs to take care of those who fall through the floor.

    • Karolyn

Good point. Can you imagine what it would be like if all those aborted babies had been born? Actually, in doing some research for a project a while back I found info about how the crime rate dropped about 10 years after abortion became legal. Sorry I can’t provide the info now – just don’t have tine to find it.

  • Linda Turner

Perhaps someone has made this comment before, as I’m late to the discussion. But has it occurred to anyone that more people on food stamps or welfare might be connected to the fact that millions of Americans have fallen into poverty since Wall Street crashed the economy? A recent study showed that 20% of Americans have had at least one time (most many more) when they could not put food on the table. Is following Jesus’ admonition to feed the hungry is some Obama plot to get votes, I think it’s a much more civil way than to have 17 billionaires buy the election for Romney. Go to to validate accusations before you post them and they get taken as fact by some other person who doesn’t bother to make sure that what they’re saying is true.

    • Raymond Carl Hardie

You are right Linda, earlier I left a post with the statistics from the IMF, and international Petroleum Institute as stated by the World Bank, it appears that there are people really struggling to make ends meet. I see people everyday who work but need this assistance to feed their families. It is sad that there are some who abuse this, but the overall good must be realized by all of us. American business corporations have been out sourcing jobs and moving factories to foreign country’s over 30 years and it has caused much hurt. Our monetary system is in a dilema with debt, but this is one program that should not be scuttled because of some fraud and our National debt as a reason. American agriculture is still mostly American owned, according to the USDA less than 30% of agriculture production is foreign owned or operated, so when the government makes any debt thru food stamps, it at least is debt made to ourselves since the purchases are over 70% in agriculture products from American farmers or corporations here. I am not justifying the food stamp program, I am just trying to see the good side of it from more than one angle. Your point is good and I thank you for saying something positive in the midst of all the apparent hate I see here at times.

    The False Attack

This is a common sense reform to give governors—including some of Romney’s supporters—flexibility to live up to the goals of the welfare reform law. Romney should know: He used to support these kinds of waivers. In 2005, he joined other Republican governors in a letter to Senator Frist, urging the Senate to move quickly on “increased waiver authority” for the welfare program.

•Politifact: “By granting waivers to states, the Obama administration is seeking to make welfare-to-work efforts more successful, not end them. What’s more, the waivers would apply to individually evaluated pilot programs—HHS is not proposing a blanket, national change to welfare law.”

•NBC: “But does the memo do what the Romney campaign charges—that it guts welfare reform, gets rid of work requirements entirely, and would ‘just send you your welfare check’? Not exactly … The administration’s HHS memo certainly does not make it so the federal government will now “just send you your welfare check,” as the Romney campaign’s television ad asserts.”

•ABC: “The claim appears to be an exaggeration … another exaggeration … a bit hypocritical … As the Obama campaign has pointed out, Romney signed a 2005 letter to Sen. Bill Frist (along with Rick Perry, Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, etc.), when welfare programs were being reauthorized under Bush. As the governors lobbied Frist on the bill, they praised ‘state flexibility.’”

•Salon: “As has already been widely noted, the line of attack is complicated by a few problems. First of all, it’s not true, or at least wildly misleading. Obama’s plan doesn’t end work requirements … Secondly, it’s a little tricky to slam Obama for handing out waivers when Romney himself supported the exact same proposal as governor of Massachusetts in 2005.”

•Time’s Joe Klein: “How incompetent is the Romney campaign? They keep coming up with these stupid gambits—the last was the lie that Obama opposed early voting for members of the military in Ohio—that are shot down instantaneously (everywhere but in Fox-Rush land) … But there is a larger question here: How stupid does he think we are? Every day brings a mind-boggling act of untruth-telling.”

Ultimately, President Obama reached across the aisle and put in place a new policy that will make welfare to work stronger. By joining some in his party to falsely criticize a policy that empowers states to implement welfare reform, Romney has made it clear that he is far more interested in another political attack against the President than he is in actually finding solutions.

    • http://na js

In 1996, Congress passed and President Clinton signed a welfare reform law which included work requirements for welfare recipients. Recently, President Obama announced that he wants to drop this work requirement. Disappointing, but not surprising, President Obama wants to increase reliance on welfare and other government programs, rather than helping recipients get back to work. At a time when we are running trillion-dollar deficits, welfare programs should ‘incentivize’ participants to find a job, not keep them on welfare. Contrary to what liberals think, economic growth, personal responsibility and freedom do not come from the federal government.

      • DAK

Do you not know how to read or are facts too much for you? What didn’t you understand about what I posted, that Obama didn’t “gut welfare” but rather made it more a state ran affair (which means LESS Federal Government involvement, not more.)

      • http://na js

I never suggested he gutted welfare…in fact, quite the opposite.
In fact, being poor is a bigger investment then gold these days. In its quest to promote taxpayer-funded entitlement programs, the Obama Administration has actually rewarded Oregon with a $5 million bonus for its efficiency in adding food-stamp recipients to already bulging rolls.* Govt wants you to depend on them, in turn you get all the Nanny State freebies you can handle – all you have to do is keep electing them to office. You scratch my back………

  • The Christian American

In Russia they called it the reds and whites. The whites were a working people while the reds bought into living on the dole as sold them by the Communist infulltraders, Eventually there was a revolution but by that time the reds out numbered whites and the rest is history. In America we call them the blue collars and white collars. The blue collars buy into “freedom and democracy”, to very contradictive words. Freedom is merely stating status, like serfdom. Democracy means who has the most power, not the most numbers. Obama’s father was a died in wool communist and he’s governing out of “Das Kapital” and the “communist manifesto”. None of this is news. It’s showing just how far Obama’s gotten in his work, converting America into a communist country. America took a turn under FDR, another devout communist, and Obama wants to finish the job. He’s building his army out of people on the dole.

    • deerinwater

I’m sorry, TCA, it doesn’t show anything of the kind, ~ Red, white blue, pink, ~ this attempt to simplify people and historical event and assign them a color is quite cleave I must confess, ~ and so original too or did you pick it up somewhere?

Then there is this, ~ guilt by association to address. The sins of the father passes to the child like it might be a genetic trait.

I don’t see anyone defending the father, so let us save ourselves a lot of fuss and bother and transfer this fathers uncontested action and activities to the off spring as well!

And you claim before the whole world that you are a Christian? Well Sir, if you are, you really need to study more and work harder at being one.

      • Pathfinder

DeerN H20; Please help with your first paragraph,( i.e. The ” creative colors” reference).
The Bolshevik revolution had two factions that were indeed called Red and White.
The RED faction won so the reference to “creative colors” reference is not clear.

TCA’s reference to blue and white collars was creative and an analogy that explained his opinion. So what if he illustrated his point with the reference, at least it was understandable

Your “assignment’ of the father (and for that matter the mother) as a devout communist to the son doesn’t quite play as well either. We do not have to judge Obama by his parents (although the genetic reference may have a degree of merit) . Taking into account that Obama was blessed with a muslim education and 20 years of Black liberation Theology, under the auspice of Rev Wright, given Obamas self-proclaimed “foreign relations” experience (Kenya), his nefarious Chicago connections, and his performance in office, there is more than ample information to judge this man on his own merits.

However, in BOB’s case, apparently the fruit did not fall far from the tree.

(PS; DeerNH2O, Have a great weekend and I am glad you made it thru Katrina, especially being 50 miles out at sea, that had to be an experience.)

      • Deerinwater

Hmm? Yes, it was a ride of a lifetime in a study ship with able Captain and crew. Not being the Sea Witch, first rodeo and a wet ship by design. We fared well with only 1 months frozen provisions rolling about with the microwave in the galley floor when a freezer door latch failed to hold while the rest of cargo and sea doors held with constant 30 minute adjustments over a 10 hour ride. Fortunately the coffee pot stayed nailed down and those twin donkeys kept singing their one note duet as Cap kept her nosed into incoming walls of water as her steel backbone keel vibrated, singing out like a spring saw blade when it unloaded as she broke over and crest every wave. It was a surreal come to Jesus week, I will not be forgetting.

In regard to the notorious Rev. Wright, allow me to say, ~ He has no defense and there is little that I can offer him except to say, the devil loves to take down a holy man and seems to work on them double-time. Temptations are strong that comes with the position of leadership and obedient followers. Both you and I have seen it play out many times through out our adult years. The list is long of religious leaders that have fallen from grace, drunk with power, righteousness and purpose. Where it is the message that gets blurred or the com-hither looks from the women that take favor with their pastor.

But, we need to understand you don’t have 20 years of it, it takes 20 years for it to happen. There is a good reason to believe that the last 5 years, it was clear to church leadership that there was a problem in direction which creates a lot of in-fighting among leadership, the elders and deacon as they come to terms. Some liked it and some didn’t while abandoning their church home seen as the last option on the table.

Now where this was taking place, we will never truly know, does it matter? probably not. That Obama was not in the circle of church leadership? probably not.

As for myself, I hate church anyway, I would not have put up with it. Two sermons of that kind of crap and I’m gone. But I’m glad everybody is not like me ~ slow to judge others for the burdens they make the decision to carry.

I’m not one to put up with much nonsense long, ~ but I do not believe the world would be a better place with more people like myself.

  • Jay

The American culture of today is being assaulted along the same lines that Caesar and Hitler used long ago, and Americans are falling prey to such tactics in growing numbers with every passing hour. We are truly a divided people, who agree or disagree along party, ethnic, racial and religious lines. Much like the priests of centuries past, no decision can be made without first consulting our appointed political or social leader. We take sides with differing factions within our country, arguing about single issues that are presented to us and whose sole purpose is to divide us into isolated groups. Instead of meaningful debate about the future of our nation, we receive only distractions. We thirst for truth, meaning, and freedom, but instead find ourselves wandering through the desert of distraction and confusion. We seek leaders, but only receive figureheads. We have ceased being Americans. We are conservatives or liberals. We are environmentalists or corporate interests, Catholics or Protestants, hawks or doves, black or white. The people of America are divided among many lines, ultimately under the confines of a system of right and left. Much like the German people of the 1930s, we are isolated from clear
perspective. Much like the beleaguered Celts, we are so distracted by civil war of right and left, we aren’t aware of our country vanishing before our eyes. The truth is, there is no right or left. There is only right and wrong.

    • DAK

Hear! Hear! You said what I’ve been thinking and lacked the words to convey although I would add there are Americans and those who wish to do us harm. That should be all that matters and the rest are just labels and serve no purpose other than to divide.

    • Karolyn

Why is it then, Jay, that you continue to use this forum to further divide us by your own devisive words? Why can’t we concentrate on those things that we agree on rather than what we disagree on?

      • Jay

Karolyn, my attempts to unite people on this forum are highly misunderstood. I have been more than specific in my critiquing of both political parties, having stated on many occasions that both, work hand in glove for the money-masters, ie. “the Corporatocracy”. I’ll admit that i have been involved in more than a few fire-fights. But the fact that i choose to respond harshly to a personal attack, or an ignorance statement, should not be construed as an attempt for the purpose to divide. A strong or forceful disagreement is just that, a strong and forceful disagreement! However, I do realize that at times, my bed-side-manners leave much to be desired. For what its worth, i am making a considerable effort to address the issue.

      • Karolyn

Glad to hear that Jay! :-)

You need to do your research better. This article is not how it is,

  • chuckb

dak, you read too much from the left, the waiver barry issued to the states can be interpreted as a easement of the original law.

Obama administration announced it would grant waivers authorizing states to evade Section 407’s “definitions of work activities and engagement, specified limitations, verification procedures, and the calculation of participation rates.”

lf, as its backers contend, the Obama administration were truly interested in increasing work participation among welfare recipients, it wouldn’t need to issue a single waiver.
Nothing in the law prevents states from exceeding the minimum requirements.

The only possible purpose for waivers is to undermine work requirements, and the administration’s memorandum basically concedes as much. It calls on states to weaken or abandon work requirements in favor of fuzzy metrics that do not actually require welfare recipients to “work,” in a way that word is normally understood, grossman wash times.

what is it the bolshevik press says: it is “dubious” what romney or ryan claim, you have to read every thing they write twice and then divide it by two. the politico and the left wing web are nothing but shills for barry, factcheck, lol

one thing that stands out is the “verification procedure” is this also relating to illegal aliens on welfare? nevada is one of the chief states asking for the waiver, also has a large mexican population, illegal mainly, and many will be registered by seiu to vote

    • DAK

In other words, I should not trust ABC, NBC, Time, Politifact, Salon, or any of them and I should trust what you say because…? You say I read too much from the left yet perhaps it is you who reads too much from the right and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I don’t know and I cannot say with 100% accuracy that Obama did or did not “gut” welfare… but I am more inclined to believe ABC, NBC, Time and other news outlets than I am some person on-line whom I do not know.

      • chuckb

dak, rather than listen to the media who without doubt are very left leaning, read the waiver, then if you agree with the media criticism of romney and ryan, then that’s your prerogative. the word “dubious” the left uses means “they think ” not that , what romney said is an outright lie.

the article i used from the wash.times, makes reference to the fact the states do not need this waiver to make the changes they want, the waiver, gives them more than what they are asking for, it does give them a way to make changes that is derogatory to the law.

      • Pathfinder

DAK” You say:”I should not trust ABC, NBC, Time, Politifact, Salon, or any of them and I should trust what you say because …….”

You need not listen to anyone and indeed you should research beyond the mass media. The mass media is corrupt. 85 to 90 % of the media writers are self-proclaimed to be Liberal or “leaning left” . All journalists are educated liberal universities by liberal professors so they come to the field being liberally indoctrinated.
Now, let us strike to the core of the problem…. The New York Times (NYT). In the 1960′s “new family blood” took over this 150+ year old family BUSINESS referred to as “The Grey Lady” and acknowledged as the “Document of Record” (DOR) for the USA. NYT is still family owned only and locks out non-family ownership. In 1960 the NYT went from a news reporting agenda (opinions on the editorial page only) to an agenda driven instrument. The NYT now makes news where previously there was none; their agenda and opinions are now reflected in the headlines.
Given that the NYT is considered the DOR, every news agency looks pick up on NYT reporting as gospel and share in the distribution of information. Investigative journalism for all practical purposed is a lost art. Along with your current resources, consider reading “Journalistic Fraud” (How the NYT distorts the news and why it no longer can be trusted), by Bob Kohn, Understanding his research and fraudulent journalistic examples will allow you to filter out the bias of “LIBERAL MASS MEDIA SPEAK ….Good Luck.

To Pathfinder and Chuckb (plus all the others who give a civil response)

Thanks first and foremost for the civility. I am almost ashamed to admit it, but I didn’t really pay any attention to politics untill 2000 and then I let it go until 2008, and at my age that is unexcusable no matter how many other Americans do it (don’t pay attention.) With that being said, I have had many different jobs for all kinds of people (mostly in the military, but if nothing else that has exposed me to different cultures) and still I have my own thoughts and experiences. I have lived thru the recent history of our country and perhaps because I didn’t pay attention to politics I have a slightly different view than most on here seem to have. Not debating if my view is more correct or less, I try and learn from other people’s experiences as well as my own. Even a fool can teach you something, even if it is only how NOT to do something, you know what I mean?

I do try and research things when I hear two different versions of the same event as there are always 2 sides to every story. Trouble is, with all the blogs, news sites that only say “News” in the title with no news in their reporting, the people that only look out for themselves and if you don’t/can’t that’s your problem plus the “instant news” of the internet age… Well, there is so much to sift through that sometimes it is just a matter of not having enough hours in the day to actually do any research. No matter how trivial.

That’s why I am here, on this site. I agree this is an important election but I would go further and say EVERY election is important and voters should always try and research the candidates and their positions as much as possible BEFORE getting in the booth and pulling a lever.

So why do you work so hard to find ways to distract and divide us Jay? Not to mention the many unsolicited inflammatory comments that suggest you are more interested in condescending, debasing, and demonizing in some effort to elevate your position at the cost of others with zero interest in resolve or resolution?

Just wondering, but your summary does well to explain you Jay.

“The truth is, there is no right or left. There is only right and wrong.”

I suppose that was your idea of an attempt span some divide? ~ So who is it that going to be judging all this Right or Wrong? You, ~ I’m left to believe.

I have worked for 45 years. I have NEVER drawn any welfare, food stamps or medicad. I paid into social security every pay check,I paid into medicare every pay check. Now because my doctor told me I could NOT work anymore and I draw disability I am lumped in with welfare and food stamp reciepents. Really people your mind set isn’t any different than the goverment with their entitlement programs. In case you don’t know this we paid into this disability/social security fund all our working lives. it is NOT welfare!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we are entitled to the repayment.Social Security is no different than an insurance or annunity you puchase other than the goverment determines what you get with no interest paid on your investment and you don’t have a choice weather you pay it or not. I can’t believe that you Chip at you age would lump us all together. Shame on you!

      Hello MOMPLAYER;
I share your frustration and do not accept lumping folks that paid into the system with folks on the dole; People who contribute to SS and Medicare have “EARNED BENEFITS” Folks on the dole get “UNEARNED ENTITLEMENTS” . It is very irritating to have “government speak” lump these together but it serves their purpose.

For the record, 100 million (35%) of US residents are now on the dole for whatever reasons that they have qualified. Only 15 to 17 % are getting Earned Benefits (i.e.SS and medicare). So, never accept the ‘lumped together entitlement jargon” that distorts fact.

In only 3 1/2 years of Obama’s administration, the unearned handouts have doubled from roughly 50 million folks to the 100 + million as cited above. So, that speaks to how well Obama’s administration has cured the ills of the economy.

Add the numbers together and in “government speak” you have the 47 to 50 % of “residents” (one can no longer use the term “Americans” in this subject matter)
      that are getting government “entitlements”.

Words have meaning and the government has mastered the art of “deceptive language” as well as pandering for votes.

O can claim that he has put people to work, the jobs created for the lower middle class clerks who process the applicants for food stamps.

Big talk! I’d like to see you living where I live and find a job! Well, since you’re a man, you MIGHT find something, but for women there is nothing. Not everyone is resourceful enough to work for him or herself. I know there are ways – I live it, but I can’t fault those who aren’t capable or don’t have the intelligence to create their own money. I’ve been a hustler most of my life and have many talents. Not everyone is that fortunate.

What about the companies that will not hire when people retire or get a job elsewhere? There are numerous companies that pile more work on other employees when someone leaves. This year, there have been 3 people leave and they were not replaced. Their jobs were absorbed by other employees that are already stressed, myself included. After 47 years, my last day is this coming Friday, and I am eager to get out. I have always enjoyed my work, and I KNOW I have been a good employee. However, enough is enough. I certainly don’t want to die at my desk from a heart attack. Time to move on and enjoy my home and my dogs.

It’s one of the reasons there used to be organizations called unions that protected workers from the arbitrary decisions of management. Management is there to make a profit. Unions are there to make sure that that profit is not made at the expense of workers’ health.

I am a vet, I was disaled with a seious back injury at work. I WAS a hard working man in the “upper middle class” but now I am 68 on a fixed income. All my savings was ued up when my son got brain cancer. I had some insurance but not enough to cover all expenses so now I am on SS. I have seen my expenses go up in many areas OVER 400 PERCENT!!!! No increase in my SS for three years and just a very small increase this year but the increase all went towards medical expenses. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD STEAK YET THIS YEAR! So I applied for food stamps. WOW got a whapping $16. per month! What a scam! I really need assistance and they just slap me in the face! I guess they just want to show another person on food assistance!!!! but all the real money goes to all those lard aresas that never worked
I am not living very well on $1,158. per month to cover house payment, car and gas and insurance expenses, I WOULD LOVETO WORK BUT I AM NOW 69 and I don’t have the stamana I had when i was younger. The insurance for my house has now gone up so it is double what my house payment is! It is a shame that I am forced to pay more than 4 times what my house is actually worth. THE HIGH INSURANCE RATES ARE THE GREATEST CAUSE WHY SO MANY ARE LOOSING THEIR HOMES.

    • DAK

Brother, I can relate and although I have never gone through what you have (my child getting cancer) I have had similiar experiences when my father got cancer. My mom came close to loosing her home and would of but she managed to sell some stuff and borrow money from her sister as well (money she couldn’t pay back so she left the house to my aunt as payment.) Same as you, my parents had insurance but it wasn’t enough to cover the expenses and everything my parents had worked for over 50 years was gone and although my mom didn’t die in poverty, it was mighty close.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and as a fellow vet I wish you all the best. Know there is a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how long the tunnel might be.

For one thing, the major reason that there are more people on food stamps is that, with economy as bad as it is, there are more people with a low enough inacome the need them.

The TANF program that States are able to take part in does not, in any way, loosen the work requirements. In fact, they strengthen it. In order to participate, they have to come up with a program that will put 20% more TANF recpients to work. That is not, in any way, loosening the requirements.

One must destroy the value and purpose of capital to denigrate and destroy a free nation. What better way than near zero FED & T-bill rates in an environment that rewards consumption and scorns, regulates, and taxes the savings that generates “consumptables”?

And, the many oppressed monopolist controlled countries that will reward capital above the zero mentality, will get the capital, and create the infrastructure that produces the “consumptables” this sorry nation is delighted to mortgage what resources we have to consume on credit!

Subversive activity to destroy this nation is treason… punishable by death if convicted in a court of law… but the monopolists own the media and thus the politicians who rely on media disinformation to get elected…….. Afraid to call rats, rats?

People have no shame now days. Personally, I would rather die than recieve a government hand. To become dependent on government is like throwing your life away. No self-dignity, no respect, no responsiblity, no self worth and no freedom!! You live and die at their every whim. Do this, get that, kind of mentallity. Government programs are ok if some one really has a need but that need should be short term (disability not included).

Here we go……….attacking “each other” when we SHOULD be attacking those running this country………that’s exactly what they want because they are not DOING anything to fix the problems! There is regular welfare (which I’m not against if really needed), and there is “white coat” welfare which is a waste of taxdollars. They are letting corporations go overseas with penalties that are not enough (if ANY) as far as I’m concerned, they are allowing more products “in” and not enough “out”, they are letting in too many people when there are not enough jobs for those already here; I’d like to know what’s going to happen when there are no businesses left………..will we all be living in huts on dirt roads?

    • Jeff

How can you simultaneously criticize Obama for saving the auto industry and accuse him of destroying business? Look at the W stock market vs. where it is now. Look at the market’s performance under democrats vs. republicans over the past 100 years. Look at Republicans’ record on fiscal responsibility – it’s horrible. Romney will be a disaster and with Ryan he’ll be a right wing disaster.

I read stuff like this but then in the real world I can’t get assistance because I’m too poor and have been out of work for too long. I’m 58 and just got turned down for disability because I haven’t worked ‘on the books’ since 2004. My recent medical bills total over $90,000 and since I don’t have proof of ‘low income’ I can’t get any help.

All the money I’ve paid into unemployment is out of reach, same as SSI because I’ve been surviving on odd jobs, selling personal possessions, borrowing from friends & family the last 8 years.

I had emergency surgery 3 years ago and couldn’t walk for at least 8 months, have nerve damage down both legs, bulging & collapsed discs, Hep-C and no ‘verifiable’ income. I’m constantly harassed for the $100k+ debt I ran up after losing my full time job and losing my savings on a failed small business.

I’d rather just work and be left alone but those days are long gone for me. And it’s not that I’m looking for handouts, just some of the money that was taken from me that’s supposed to help me through times like this. Like the commercial says: It’s my money and I want it now!
