Obama Draws Criticism For Lack Of Specifics On Immigration In State Of The Union Address

February 2, 2010 by

Obama draws criticism for lack of specifics on immigration in State of the Union address Last Wednesday’s State of the Union speech was more than an hour long, but President Obama devoted only one sentence to immigration, promising to fix a "broken" system by securing borders and enforcing the laws. For both opponents and proponents of immigration, this was not nearly enough.

In a commentary written for CNN, Ruben Navarrette Jr. stated that he was "disappointed" that Obama did not lay a more detailed plan for a comprehensive immigration reform that would give illegal immigrants a chance to regulate their status and would define the role of guest workers.

However, Navarette acknowledged that immigration reform "was always going to be an especially tough issue for Democrats since it splits the liberal coalition with Latinos on one side and organized labor on the other."

Meanwhile, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a conservative group, has attacked the president for putting emphasis on the need to create jobs while disregarding the fact that some 8 million jobs are currently held by illegal immigrants that could go to U.S. citizens.

"These jobs could be immediately transferred to American workers if the administration were to vigorously enforce laws against employers who hire illegal aliens and remove those workers from the country," said Dan Stein, president of FAIR.

Stein also chastised the government for allegedly abandoning worksite enforcement efforts.

We needs to have Immigration Reform, We have 1.5 million illegal in this country, provide them a path for legal status or deport them, But need the solution right now, Only then our Country economy condition get stabilized. Broken immigration, People are waiting for 15-20 years for there application dose not make any sence. You accept the application only if you guaranty to process within 6 month or don’t accept any application, USCIS or any agency in US have right to hold people and there family member on hold for 15 to 20 years just for there answer yes or no. We have more then 10 percent unemployment rate in these country, so why we need guest worker in this country. The problem is not in H1b visa or any other foreign workers visa, it is the problem in American greedy businesses how higher talented people from different countries, and screw there family member life on backlog. So either deport all the legal immigrants, But I will request all of you, the people who follow the rules, and come in this country legally, they are not taking no body jobs, so don’t put them there life on backlog.

    • Harold Olsen

I’m in favor of granting illegal immigrants citizenship. You say there are 1.5 million. I’ve heard it is as much as 12 million. However, the number doesn’t matter. I say grant them all citizenship after first deporting them so they can return to this country and do it legally. The main arguments about illegals is that they are not criminals and should not be treated as criminals. Well, guess what? If they are here illegally then they are breaking the law. And if you break the law you are a criminal. It’s that simple. So, let’s round up all of these criminals and throw them out of our country. We have enough criminals running our government and don’t need more of them invading our country. My grandparents on both sides came to this country legally at the turn of the twentieth century. There is no reason why these people can’t do it as well. We do not need new immigration laws to solve our immigration problems, we just need our corrupt government to enforce the ones we already have. In not doing so they are violating their oaths of office, especially our fuhrer Barack Hussein Obama and that alone should be grounds to impeach this Nazi SOB.

  • Robert

Hey Navarette. What do you think Obama’s going to do with all those combat military units he plans on pulling out of Iraq by July? He’s pushing a jobs stimulus package and guess what? I think they all will be offered a job somewhere near the Mexican boarders. Makes sense to me. We shouldn’t waste such fine talent. No need to read them Maranda rights, they’re not Muslims. Just lock and load and let God sort out the good from the bad.

    • DaveH

I don’t think so Robert. He will outfit them with Brown Shirts and have them stomp all of us Domestic Terrorists.

    • Harold Olsen

Once he brings our troops home he’ll probably decide he doesn’t need them and discharge most of them. I’m sure he’ll weed out those members of the military who are his supporters and turn them into his personal SS, loyal to and answering only to him. If he can’t get Congress to do what he wants he’ll have his own private army to help him push through his agenda and make him dictator for life. He will do anything necessary to get power and to keep it.

      • Joe H.

We already have 11 to 12 % unemployment in this country. Could you imagine the rate if you discharge say 500 thousand troops all at once? I’m sure o-man can and knows that it would be his political demise if he did it!

  • http://cotteronimmigration brian cotter

If 10 million undocumented aliens in the USA were permitted under CIR to pay the $5,000.00 proposed penalty, that would raise $5 billion dollars and these immigrants would wipe out the deficit for us.

    • Robert

The deficit is in the trillions not billions. But you made a point. Only problem is if the government collected $5 Billion from them, the democrats would pass a bill giving them $25 billion a year in handouts for the rest of their lives.

  • DEC

Obama knows immigration is a powder keg for Americans and he has no political capital left to try. Americans are dead set against another amnesty. I will never understand how politicians can condone giving the ultimate prize of citizenship to law breakers. How many laws do illegals have to break (criminal entry, stealing ID’s and working fraudulently, welfare fraud, etc) before we get serious about enforcing our immigration laws? Americans have to obey our laws so how come illegals don’t? The need to be deported. These are not the types of people we want in this country anway. Illegals give all Mexicans a bad name and they will continue to get no respect as long as the illegals think they are above the law. Politicians need to realize the people will vote them out of office for supporting for criminals.

    • Robert

To answer your question about politicans condoning this illegal activity. Well they all condoned the Arab/Muslims terrorists acts of 911. Didn’t you get the memo from your representative.? 911 was America’s fault perpetrated by Bush and Cheney. We stupid Americans just don’t get it. That’s why the government has to take control and tell us how to live our lives, what we can eat, when to take a crap and when to die (after they have picked our pockets and nothings left).

  • s c

This prez attracts criticism like a lightning rod. For someone who’s SUPPOSEDLY ‘so intelligent,’ he comes across like a pampered brat who’s never had to have either foot in the real world.
Obama is living proof that not everyone should be allowed to have access to higher education at a university. He should have gone into journalism, where he could be on TV in the Chicago area, and America never would have heard of him or his half-, social engineering agendas.

  • Kolosochek

We, the immigrants need to boycott the census. Everybody who supports the immigration reform should boycott the census. Everybody who has a family member in immigration limbo should boycott the census. For those Republicans and Democrats who are up for the reelection this November, it will mean than there might be no seat for them to run for. Even if Republicans will get the majority it will be very bad for Obama who promised a “change”. Republicans don’t want “change”. Republican majority will automatically mean that Obama is “done as a president and a political figure”. He will go in the history as a lamest president of them all and a lair. I am sure that Obama doesn’t want that. It will push him to the action.
Immigrants, we have only one vote every 10 years. Use it wisely. Don’t listen those who is telling you that if you don’t get counted your community will not get enough findings. If you boycott the census your community will get less funding to terrorize immigrants and their children. And keep in mind that if you participate in census you might be deported and not be a part of the community that got funding.

    • Harold Olsen

Boycott the census? Is there really a census in this country or is it just a fiction? I’m 60 and have never once participated in a census. I have never received a census survey in the mail; no census taker has ever visited me, nor have I been called on the phone by anyone from the Census Bureau. And I’m not hard to find. My last apartment, I lived there for 20 years, and my current apartment I have lived in for 15 years, and I have had the same telephone number for 35 years. Also, I do not know anyone else who has ever participated in a census. So, is the census real or not? Do they just fake the data and create the voting districts so they will be favorable to the left? It sounds like it to me.

      • Robert

They fake the data. It’s run by the government. They are masters of fuzzy numbers

      • libertytrain

Harold, I live in the mountains, a little off the beaten track. For whatever reason, I didn’t see or fill in the census form in 2000. I was shocked when some nicely dressed, yet really crabby, lady came to my door, annoyed that I hadn’t filled in the form, and wouldn’t leave until I answered all the census form questions.

        • s c

Libertytrain, here’s hoping that the crabby lady who invaded your privacy won’t return. I see no reason to make it easy for them, especially since they are uninvited invaders who are data miners for a big goverment that does not deserve to govern.
The census crowd isn’t any better than phone callers who can’t or won’t carry on an intelligent phone conversation. A horse’s asset is a horse’s asset. Why should I make it easy for them? If there was any easy way for me to do it, I’d show up at their front door, and inflict on them the same kind of bureaucratic punishment that they want to dish out in my direction. Fair is fair, and turnabout is a wonderful thing [it should be a national sport].

          • libertytrain

It did strike me as quite odd when she showed up – things have changed in the last 10 years and I think I will be much more suspect – than just surprised that she was miffed at me – in this next go around.

Will the politicians that we elect ever carry out the interests of the American people? I read today on the AMERICAN PATROL website that President Obama is in a discussion to cap government money such as cutting back on NASA appropriations the sending men back to the moon in 1020? Yet we are still spending–BILLIONS–on illegal immigrants who have managed to settle here? If we cannot afford to go back to the moon, how can we afford to pay for illegal immigration? Obama can find billions to Prop-up States like Sanctuary California to pay for illegal immigrants, but he cannot find the cash to pay for space exploration. How can we allow millions of poor people to continue to cross our borders? So why are taxpayers forced by pariah lawmakers to pay for education, health care and even now anticipating BILLIONS more dollars to enact a ominous Comprehensive Immigration Reform? We all know by now, that this is a very crafty way to pass another AMNESTY. These people who have entered this country without permission? Every time a new immigration enforcement is passed, the open border Liberal-Democrats-Republicans use their influence to water the law down. How many of us know, that the controversial border fence is by law supposed to be–TWO SEPARATE–FENCES? Senator Obama voted for it. more than three years ago, but only 35 miles of double-layered fencing is in place and much of the remaining 360 miles of the border fencing is badly constructed–without real barriers. The Truth is the government is lying to us.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 (Pub.L. 109-367) was enacted October 26, 2006 in the United States. The act allows for over 700 miles (1,100 km) of double-reinforced fence to be built along the border with Mexico across cities and deserts alike, in the U.S. states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas in areas that have experienced illegal drug trafficking, human slavery, gun peddling, illegal immigration and the threat of terrorism. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California who was the originator of the double fence, has not seen this happen, nor the complete wall that is just open areas, with the old barbed wire strands. Underfunded from its inception, the border fence was compromised by the open border organization, that includes American business consortium’s. As in Washington today, a team of intelligence operatives stated to Speaker Pelosi that a El Queda attack was imminent within the next 6 months. This is the time to enforce our borders with the National Guard fully armed and obviously apparent along the whole 2000 feet length. The majority of our State economies are broke–with California leading the pack. Arizona lawmakers realizing the main cause of their financial dilemma, the support of illegal workers and their families.

E-Verify is one of the most successful mechanisms to remove illegal workers, but as yet it is not mandatory. It costs nothing to use it and it has been demonized by every pro-illegal immigrant group, along with corrupt politicians and their financial clients in the business consortium’s. E-Verify must be national, with no exclusions. THIS SHOULD BECOME THE No.1 PRIORITY FOR EVERY SMALL AND LARGE COMPANY, THAT KNOWINGLY HIRING A FOREIGN WORKERS CARRIES PENALTIES SUCH AS HARSH FINES AND PRISON SENTENCES. THERE SHOULD BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE?

Our GOVERNMENT HAS SOLD ITSELF TO WALL STREET AND BOTH WALL STREET AND THE UNITED STATES ARE DEBTORS TO COMMUNIST CHINA. We cannot afford to subsidize every illegal family member, every Mother with a child who becomes an instant citizen, when 15 million Americans and residents are jobless, when our own people live in poverty. Yes! We always need exceptional highly skilled engineers and scientists, but not the indigent and desperate that we must endlessly financially support. Not semi-skilled labor that will take less wages, than our own people, who themselves will end up in the unemployment benefits line. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to your Senator and Congressman and use the voting power of THE PEOPLE. Go to NUMBERSUSA AND JUDICIAL WATCH for more information about this catastrophe that could overwhelm this country in the coming months.
Latest Immigration news: President cuts border security budget
While telling the American people that national security is a priority in his administration, President Barack Obama submitted a 2011 budget proposal that includes cuts to U.S. border security. — The proposed budget cuts include a reduction in Border Patrol agents and a cut in the amount of money allocated for the so-called “virtual fence” on the U.S.-Mexico border..

    • Joe H.

There is one tiny flaw in your post. The Fence was never underfunded, it was completely funded from the start. the government, in its infinite wisdom, just decided to withhold funds and now it is,indeed underfunded due to inflation. Had the job been done as schedualed, it would have had sufficient funding including overruns!!!!

In effect, we have the ‘best government that MONEY can buy.’ However, MONEY can’t buy good government. MONEY buys you nothing but scum who make prostitutes look like pillars of the community.
The basic key to solving this problem is to tell ALL political party hacks to get lost, NEVER donate money for an election and NEVER waste your vote by letting a politician have consecutive terms.
Either we take control of the situation, or we can sit back and weep while America goes the way of old Rome. If America falls, the whole world falls.
Politicians are not to be trusted. Are we better than these slimers, or are we a willing part of the problem?

“Obama Draws Criticism For Lack Of Specifics”.
Isn’t this his mo? Speak often and long, but say nothing.

    • Joe H.

Isn’t that the empty suit syndrome every one talks about???

    From an ER doctor:
I live and work in a border state overrun with illegals; they make more money having kids than we earn working fulltime; today I had a 25 year old with 8 kids that’s right 8; all illegal anchor babies and she had the nicest nails;cell phone;hand bag; clothing etc; she makes about 1500monthly for each; do the math. I used to say “we are the dumbest nation on earth” now I must say and sadly admit: YOU are the dumbest people on earth (that includes me) for we elected the idiot idealogues who have passed the bills that allow this; sorry; we need a revolution; Vote em all out in 2010
This is an insult and a kick in the butt to all of us…
Get mad and pass it on – I don’t know how, but maybe some good will come of this travesty.
Ifthe immigrant is over 65, they can apply for SSI and Medicaid and get more than a woman on Social Security, who worked from 1944 until 2004.

    born in 1924 and there’s a ‘catch 22.’
It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890. Each can also obtain an additional $580 in social assistance, for a total of $2,470 a month.
This compares to a single pensioner, who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years, can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.
Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!
Consider sending this to all your American friends, so we can all be ticked off and maybe get the refugees cut back to $1,012 and the pensioners up to $2,470. Then we can enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 or 60 years. And not to receive a increase for 2010 Vote them all out of office…….
Please forward to every American to expose what our elected politicians
have been doing the past 11 years to over-taxed Americans.
