Obama Adviser Defends President On Gas Prices

The rising cost of gas has prompted a public outcry in the U.S., something that the White House has looked to push back against as an adviser defended President Barack Obama over the pain at the pump argument made by the GOP, The Washington Times reported.

According to the news outlet, Obama spoke to the lack of Presidential power when it comes to energy prices in his weekly address on February 26, but Republicans attacked this notion, prompting a reply from one of the President's campaign advisers.

"There are a series of people that want [to] tell you that there are very easy magic-bullet solutions to the problems that we face. We know that’s not true," Robert Gibbs said in an interview with CNN.

Gibbs also spoke to the potential move by the White House to tap the nation's emergency oil supply, the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. This move would help to ease rising prices and was suggest by Democratic Congressmen, according to the Times.

Reuters reported that the national average cost for a gallon regular gasoline rose to $3.69, according to a survey of gas stations across the U.S.

If you folks would have listened to Obummer during his 2008 Campaign you would have heard that he was going to raise the cost of ENERGY. Hope you like the change.

    • Doc Sarvis

As individuals, we still pay a lot less than much of the world for our fuel AND we the government already subsidizes the oil industry to a very large extent.

      • Vigilant

What a comment! You think anyone gives a damn what other countries pay for gasoline? Subsidies be damned, Federal, state and local gas excise taxes add 30-50 cents per gallon.

The high and rising cost of gasoline may be the ONE thing that defeats Obama, thanks to his strangulation of the oil, coal and natural gas industries. So you keep thinking that way, Sarvis, and your darling in the White House will be out on his coattails in November.

      • Vigilant

…and I wouldn’t put it past Obama to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, in a nonemergency case, just to keep the prices down during an election year. That man’s willing to harm our strategic national security interests just to get re-elected.

Finally. We get to discuss high gas prices and Washington insanity. In this corner we have America and its _____-off millions. In the other corner is His Arrogance and Self-Anointed Incompetence, The Obummer.
First, Mr. Gibbs, no one is talking about easy solutions other than YOU and your co-criminals. However, the White House Loser will NOT get a free pass on this topic.
At the heart of this insanity is 1) a built-in lowered capacity to REFINE oil [thanks to a an America-hating
Congress and an incompetent prez] and 2) the FACT that this ‘prez’ hides behind the skirts of the Interior Department. What’s so special about the DoE?
The prez gives the DoE its marching orders, and GUESS WHO tells the DoE to halt oil production and act as though they or the prez give a damn about high gas prices. At NO time has this prez done ONE thing to make America OIL INDEPENDENT.
It seems that the prez and his false care about the working poor has at last come home to roost with his many other lies and distortions. You could say that this prez has NO plans for giving America its “fair share” of the talent it needs to remain free and safe.
In defense of GB, when he faced high gas prices, the usual chorus of slander birds went into high screech mode. Now that shoe is on the other foot. Now it’s somehow ‘different.’ Even a progressive utopian can understand HOW and WHY politicians MUST be held to the SAME standards. NO free pass for the current W H yutz. It’s in his lap, and what happens next is strictly dependent on what he DOES and what he DOESN’T do, folks. PERIOD.
