NYPD Adopts Total Surveillance

August 13, 2012 by

NYPD Adopts Total Surveillance
The “Domain Awareness System” control center.

Since the 9/11 attacks, the New York Police Department has become an increasingly creepy apparatus of nanny-Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s vision of a utopian surveillance state. Officials are proud of it, and they’re upping the ante.

Last week, the mayor’s “personal army” unveiled its newest Robocop-inspired total surveillance mechanism, a joint creation of the department and Microsoft called the “Domain Awareness System.”

Using 3,000 cameras placed throughout lower Manhattan that are capable of reading license plates, zeroing in on areas from which 911 calls are made and synching with NYPD records, the department says it will essentially be able to stop crimes that have not even happened.

“We are not your mom and pop police department anymore. We are in the next century. We are leading the pack,” Bloomberg said, according to WCBS 880.

The camera system is so complex that law enforcement officials say they could be able to track a suspect’s whereabouts several days before a crime was committed by using archived information.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said: “It’s a tool that meets the needs of the Department, one that will help protect New Yorkers and keep us safe from crime and terrorism for years to come.”

The system is expected to be picked up by other police departments throughout the Nation.

What will keep us safe from the Government Criminals and Terrorists in the years to come?

    • TIME

      Dear Dave,

Saddly NYC has been gone now for years – its only getting worse over time. Lets face it with an outright Fascist like Blumbuttburg there’s only one way to go.

Afterall Dave, you hit the nail on the head with:
“who will protect us from the real CRIMINALS,” like Blumbuttberg?

      New York is a dead state afterall they have special people like Chuckie Shoeface, who in his own words said;
“We can do anything to the people we want. We have the power they don’t.” Way to Go NY; keep on voting in that special POS!

Hey New York can we get you a mini Hitler to go with your plate of Nazis?

      Peace and Love

Do any of you actually believe a word of the above? This a test bed for nationwide control of?

“The latest Wikileaks data-dump reveals that the government now has the ability to grab video from far-flung surveillance cameras located in stores, casinos and other businesses around the country. It uses sophisticated facial recognition software to identify people of interest captured by the ubiquitous cameras numbering in the millions.

The software, Trapwire, is a significant breakthrough for the surveillance state. It was uncovered by security researcher Justin Ferguson. He delved into the massive pile of emails hacked from Stratfor – regarded as a shadow CIA – on Christmas of 2011.”

Both so-called political parties built this nightmarish federal government bureaucracy.

    • James Andrews

Small arms, as always. Fight to defeat anti gun-rights fascist politicians like Bloomberg, join the NRA, and fight as hard as you can to get gun-rights friendly politicians back into office, and overturn stupid, overly strong laws like those in New York so that the good people someday get their God-given rights back. And push for legal, concealed carry in all fifity states and every major city in the nation!

      • Brutus

The NRA isn’t interested in protecting your gun rights. They have signed off on every major law ever written. including the so called “assault weapons ban”, and the gun free school zone law. Which by the way, infringes on the states right to reciprocity. Giving money to them is like giving money to the Republican National Committee. They will thank you for your support as they leave a chalk mark on your back, and send you to the next RINO with their hand out. I pray for my grand kids sake, that America will wake up. Because the point of no return is Nov. 6, 2012. If we fail on that day, I’m afraid that all will be permanently lost. I don’t have faith that enough Americans will rise up against our out of control government, and demand that they act within the confines of United States of America’s Constitution. And lets just say my enthusiasm for the establishment picked candidate Romney to actually lead us back to the Constitution, is somewhere between nil and non-existent. Until we completely purge both houses of congress, & remove every activist judge from the bench. And return the senate to the individual states. We stand no chance of a second American revival. Since the full on civil war that begone under Bill (Depends on what the definition of is, is. & oral “sex” is not really sex) Clinton, to demoralize our nation. We have allowed ourselves to be lead down this primrose path. By means of “political correctness”, “multiculturalism”. (Hmm? I never noticed that before, another “ism” that leads to deprivation, like commun’ism’, fasc’ism’, social’ism’. Amazing how multiculturalism has become the cry from both political party’s. Anyway I have diverged from my original intent.) The force acceptance of other peoples private life styles, as everyday norms. At the same time as denying the right of traditional American values. Nov 6,2012 may already be to late for this nation. As this administration holds itself to any law. The senate under Bush gave us the un-patriot act, and who knows what else. And is now in the hands of an administration who’ actions can only lead a reasonable person to believe they wish to impose absolute power over America. Can we really put this to an end by casting our vote on Tuesday November 6, 2012AD? On November 7, 2012, what will the headlines read? And most important what happens on January 20, 2013 @12:00pm EST.

Could we not say this is a copy-cat case of what they have in London? They have been living with cameras all over the place there for years. And the Londoner’s seem not to mind. Are the people of NYC crazy enough to allow Big Brother? It appears so.

      • jeromeennis

The Federal Reserve, simply put, could not exist without the U.S. IRS which are the Bag Men for the Federal Reserve. The Fed gladly prints as much money as the Political Leaders and Bureaucrats want, and the more they print, the better for the Federal Reserve. No matter how much Red Ink the government Runs UP, the Feds Get Their Cut with Interest Payments Right off The Top of every Dime the IRS and other Bureaucracies can Confiscate from Legitimate Capital Earners who are Workers who actually earn enough to Owe Taxes and from Small Businesses and from some Large Corporations that are not in Bed with the Federal Government. Large corporations that are in bed with the Federal Government such as GE, pay no taxes while some conservative, well-run corporations, get Fleeced just like Workers who produce also get fleeced, while about 50 percent of workers pay ZERO taxes and even many Non-Workers get Tax Refunds from IRS even thought they did not pay in a single dime with the Welfare Clause of Earned Income Credits. The IRS are the Strong Arm Payment Enforcers for the Federal Reserve who get almost every dime collected in taxes as Interest or Tribute.

Governments are supposed to protect us from criminals, but what if the government commits crimes? Can we still call it a government?

An institution that commits crimes is NOT a government.

Honesty requires a more accurate label, such as “criminal gang,” though many will find that shocking due to the Stockholm Syndrome. The Stockholm Syndrome is a strange phenomenon by which victims come to sympathize with their oppressors and even seek their approval.

More appropriately we should call our criminal “government” The State. It’s technically accurate and sounds appropriately ominous.

But what is crime? If you or I assault, steal, or defraud, we are criminals. The same moral standards must apply to government. After all, it’s merely a group of people, and no group is so large or so special that it can magically turn wrong into right.

So does The State initiate violence against us? Of course it does.

Nearly everything The State does is INITIATED violence. Maybe as little as 10% of its actions can be described as defensive retaliation. This means . . .

The State is 90% criminal and only 10% governmental.

But why quibble. Round it off . . .

The State is NOT a government.

The State is an uncontrollable criminal gang.

      I think we’ve had it backwards . . .

We’ve been talking about reducing the size of “the government,” when in fact, we should have been talking about . . .Creating the FIRST true governments

What we need are governmental institutions that shun initiated violence, and only use violence defensively.

•Stop thinking of The State as a government.

•Stop calling it government. Call it “The State” instead. Describe it as “an uncontrollable criminal gang.”

•When you think you must use the word government to describe The State, put it in scare quotes — “government.”
      -borrowed from DownsizeDC Foundation

      • JeffH

The State – capital T, capital S – is a coercive monopoly. The State has monopoly control over the use of coercive violence in a given geographical area.

I suggest that where you once referred to the government you should instead refer to The State. Here’s why . . .

Not all governmental services are provided by The State. For instance, there are private police and courts, and countless other institutions that provide various forms of regulation, such as trade associations, insurance companies, and testing laboratories. Therefore . . .

Whenever you talk about “the government” you are fostering the myth that the coercive, monopoly form of government represented by The State, is the ONLY source of governmental services. This is untrue. Instead . . .

It’s more accurate to talk about voluntary government vs. coercive government. Voluntary government is represented by countless numbers of competing organizations, while coercive government is represented by only one organization, The State.

You will benefit from talking about The State rather than “the government,” for several reasons . . .

Doing so provokes questions you can use to educate your fellow citizens.
You can answer these questions by highlighting the difference between voluntary government and coercive government.
You can point to the superior performance of voluntary government vs. the inferior performance of coercive government.
You can draw attention to the monopoly nature of coercive government. For instance: you can fire your security service, but you can’t fire your corrupt and incompetent local police department.
The coercive entity known as The State should be reduced to only those functions for which a coercive monopoly is absolutely necessary. All other functions should be left to voluntary government.

Our big cities such as NY, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, Madison, Seattle, San Francisco, Detroit, Boston, Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore and others have long been criminal enterprises totally and completely controlled by the Democrat Party, The Unions, The Mafia and other assorted Thugs and Criminals. And, in all these cities, they have long had a Welfare System of Deadbeats to do their Voting and Dirty Work. Beginning in the mid 1960′s, LBJ began applying this Criminal Model to the Whole Country when he Nationalized the Welfare State and began the takeover of Public Education which would insure that the Poplulation Would Be Dumbed Down and Brainwashed to be useful idiots with no knowledge or academic skills to compete in a competitive work force thereby insuring that the Welfare State would grow. With the election of Barack Barry Soetoro Obama, the final nails were put in the USA and expanded the Welfare State and the Take Over of Public Education to insure that the Welfare Slaves remain on the Welfare Plantation for time immemorial.

      • JeffH

jeromeennis, I agree with most of what you say except that both parties are criminal…it’s not just exclusive to the Democrats.

      • Jay

Well said, JeffH. Good posts btw!

The ability to stop crimes before they happen! So they can catch those that have soda drinks that are too big, bulges that should be frisked, and illegal salters.

  • jeromeennis

What do you expect from the Nazi Bloomberg who believes himself to be a God as he tells folks where they can smoke or not smoke and even regulates the size soft drink you can willingly buy???? And, all in the guise of Liberalism and Nanny Statism, which in fact is nothing less than FASCISM=No Opposition and No Freedom Allowed, and that is why Smart NEW YORKERS who actually Pay Taxes, are fleeing like Mice Off a Sinking Ship.

  • Don Killinger

Freedom is disappearing all to quickly in America and we don’t even realize it. We as a nation are asleep at the wheel.

  • Daveh234

They brought out stop light cameras and supposedly upped our safety…and of course raised extra revenues. The cameras also take pictures of the interiors. They can see the driver and identify you so they have a good case. THe flash for the cameras go off even when no red light is being run, so what was that picture for?
The RNC Convention is coming to Tampa and they have more cameras, better ones, than New York does up at a huge cost to us taxpayers to keep the delegates safe? Who cares about the delegates? They’re just regular inconsequential types and we all have to share in the cost of invading our privacy?
I’d protest but they have blocked that for this period of time also, no protests near anything where you can be seen. 1stamendment be damned.

    • Flashy

“I’d protest but they have blocked that for this period of time also, no protests near anything where you can be seen. 1stamendment be damned.” A tradition well practiced by Bush II/Cheney, and cheered by the far Right at the time ..

      • momo

And signed into law by Obama! So much for redress of grievences on federal property.

      • Jay

Well said, momo! Flashy should be thanking you for finishing his sentence for him.

One more reason not to visit NYC. I guess that his majesty doesn’t feel that tourism is necessary. Now that the terrorists know about the system, they will simply avoid it and if they want to check out their targets, they will do it with more care regarding their looks, build models, and still do what they want. This is just smoke and mirrors making us feel more secure without real security. What they should do is get to know the neighborhoods, their people, and gain their trust. The good majority of them will turn in the terrorists as long as they can keep their privacy. This would be a log less expensive and invasive in the long run. Of course, they won’t be able to send business to their friends to overfill their pockets.

  • Bill

“stop crimes that have not even happened.”
I guess now in New York, you’ll also be able to be prosecuted and jailed for not doing a crime because a computer program and “Intelligence” said you were going to commit the crime. People with any means at all should move out of that sorry state. The scary part is when Bloomberg decides he want’s to buy the presidency

  • Mike

When you prefer security ( a euphemism) over liberty, you deserve neither!

Ben Franklin said words to that effect! And he is right–!

Just like that movie starring Tom Cruise–the difference being; you were arrested, tried, and jailed for the crime you were going to commit in the future!

Bloomberg is a disgrace to the Jewish contingency!

    My 2 cents worth!!!

It’s the ongoing process of the great disparity between wealth and the Common man. We have the wealthy elite, able to buy into elections and make them so expensive only the wealthy may participate in person or by financing candidates…and we have the Common man becoming more and more disconnected and alienated.

The upper elite begin to think they operate under a different set of rules and they are “different’ than the Common man.

Currently, they wealthy elite have an oligarchical control over the media, transportation, energy. They enjoy a monopoly in the political arena. And they believe Lincoln’s quote about “Of the People…’ speaks of three different “Peoples”.

it began when Reagan initiated the war against the Middle Class, created the welfare state for the wealthy, and began what has become the most massive redistribution of wealth ever seen in world history…from the Middle Class to the wealthy. They sold to the ignorant masses the idea of trickle down is good (you should enjoy being pis*ed on), and then played on the TP Trilogy of fear, hate, ignorance to gain control…and are using the American taliban to maintain that control.

Y’all proud of what you, the far right, have given us?

    • DaveH

No, it began with the Progressives starting with Teddy Roosevelt. Since then both political parties’ Leaders have feathered their own nests and those of their Crony Capitalists:

    • DaveH

Flashman says — “They sold to the ignorant masses the idea of trickle down is good”.
Now Flashman and his cohorts are trying to sell the idea to the ignorant masses that Trickle Up Poverty is good.

You’re sheer refusal to think rationally, twisted preferred, never ceases. No matter by what or how much you are countered with unmitigated fact, both present and historical, you’ve continually proven time after time how deeply programmed you truly are.

Sirian..when have you ever stated something true and factual?

Flashy says: Sirian..when have you ever stated something true and factual?

He just did. Reread his comment above!

    • Jay

Flashy says: Y’all proud of what you, the far right, have given us?

The far right could not have accomplished it without the help of the far left! Before you can fix a problem, Flashy, you have to rightly understand it, otherwise you’re just blowing gas!

      • Flashy

i agree. THE far left is just as abetting as the far right. But it was the right who yelled down those who said “wait a second..this doesn’t smell correct” … because dammit…they had a “right” to be safe and protected because we were attacked !

  • Bob

Bloomberg is like oreo, they are both IDIOTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • r.p.

Keep us safe! Right! Haven’t we had enough of their B.S.? We need to monitor the politicians to keep us safe. Maybe 500 cameras in the house and 150 cameras in the senate, and millions of them in the precinct HQ’s across the country. Maybe some in all of the congressional and senate offices too. If we’re gonna do it, we might as well do it right.

We must be as aware of police and paramilitary activities as they are of ours’. Kinda tit for tat. Practice situational awareness at all times. Share a camera pic. Let em know they are being watched by We the People, the people who pay their wages. Oh, and show no fear.

  • ladybug

Do they really think they are fooling people with their claims of watching out for criminals? Big Brother is alive and growing in NY and that is only the tip of the iceberg. You people in NY better start rising up and protesting this invasion of privacy. Bloomberg should be impeached for over stepping his authority.

  • Paul Uhland

Start by repealing the archaic 19th Century Sullivan Law, which prevents most NYC folks from legally and safely arming themselves.

    • jeromeennis

      Ditto Paul Uhland.

    • George Washington

People HAVE the RIGHT as the constitution DENIES government from infringement, although they have, they have nolegal basis for denial to use in court. Carry a gun, I do when I feel a need. I will NOT obey any law that denies MY right to defend MY life, when cops are ROUTINELY gunning people down. If I am assaulted by ANYBODY, and they are armed, even with a knife, I WILL use my gun to kill the attacker, then walk away. PISS ON some LAW that will be used to ASSAULT ME, while I am PAYING for it. people that bend over and obey without question should simply GIVE UP and hand over their lives to the ‘state’. I prefer to FIGHT THE BASTARDS, and use any means available to defend my life,my family’s and my property from POLICE TERRORISM! I have had ENOUGH of the feel good tree hugger talk, and it has done NOTHING to HELP MAKE US SAFE, it IS all LIES and DECDPTION by politicians to KEEP us all FEARFUL, IGNORANT and OBEDIENT TO THE BADGE OF CRIME!!

  • FWO21

The people of New York needs to vote this man out before they are all imprisoned just because someone “thought” they were gonna commit a crime. Whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty?

  • http://na Mike in NE

My city are getting the same thing or similiar. Patrol cars scanning plates to be put into database and some other crap. be able to monitor your every trip. A city of 60K or so and some smaller surronding towns close by, not a real crime hot spot you know. IA/NE/SD. The article in newspaper drew no reaction, I’ve no idea why people are not worried about the real criminals. Scary indeed.

  • Liberterian

Let us realize that so goes New York, so could the nation go. We must remain deligent in resisting this New World Order drive toward complete control of our lives. Vote out the gun control freaks and the New World Order minded politicians that see only the growth of their own selfish power on the horizon of our great nation. The glock 40 solution and our 2nd Amendment stands between us and the loss of our freedom.

  • Ranchman

Come on people! Citizens in places like New York City will NEVER get their 2nd Amendment rights restored and you know it! Rights, Freedom, and Liberty are never restored once stripped from us, never! Only the people, acting in concert, will be able to restore this Republic and it will only be done by force! YOU KNOW IT! When the day comes that the vast majority of Citizens and Patriots in this country can wrap their empty heads around that little fact, we will ALL be on the road to freedom again!
