Number Of People Receiving Food Stamps Has Risen Nearly 70 Percent Under Obama
SPECIAL
The number of people who rely on the government is growing at a staggering pace.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced that 45 million people received food stamps in 2011. That’s about a 70 percent increase from 2007.

The CBO suspects that the number will only get higher.

The report showed that spending has increased by $42 billion in the past four years. In 2007, $30 billion was spent; in 2011, $72 billion was used on the program.

The increase, according to CBO, can be attributed in part to the 2009 stimulus.

The CBO forecasts that the economy will improve after 2014 and the number of people using food stamps will decrease. Yet it predicts that $73 billion will be used to fund the program in 2022.

It is estimated that one in seven U.S. citizens received food stamps in 2011.
