NRA To Celebrate ‘American Values’ This Weekend

May 14, 2010 by

NRA to celebrate 'American values' this weekendThe National Rifle Association (NRA) will be holding this year’s Annual Meetings and Exhibits, which it calls "a celebration of American values" at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C. from May 14-16.

The organization estimates that some 70,000 visitors will attend the event, which it says will "provide a safe and fun atmosphere the whole family can enjoy."

Leading firearm manufacturers will be on hand to display the industry’s latest products. There will be hunting and shooting accessories, and an extensive private collection displayed by NRA-affiliated gun collector clubs will cover acres of convention space, for a total of 400 exhibits.

On May 14, the NRA will hold its Celebration of American Values Leadership Forum that will feature prominent speakers from across the country, including Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour; former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton; former Governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin as well as television and film actor Chuck Norris.

The event comes just weeks after the release of a new Violence Policy Center study that says the NRA and other members of the gun lobby "are embracing and validating anti-government rhetoric." ADNFCR-1961-ID-19774155-ADNFCR

Before this event happens, Steele and his chums at the RNC should be told to STAY AWAY. This concerns CORE VALUES (something they very little about). So far, the RNC is still taking its daily dose of high-strength, pc-contaminated lsd. The RNC is NOT NEEDED and it is NOT WANTED.
In effect, the RNC is about as useful as a sterile stallion at a horse ranch. Until Steele and his cohorts get brain transplants, they can go away, stay away and GET LOST.

    • Claire

s c— I agree with you–Steele and co-horts should stay away. Their presence will not give much credibility and I think they would know this.

Your 2nd amendment rights are safe…. And will remain safe…. Let’s Sarah and Glenn Beck scare you If that’s what you want…. The republicans have done more to take away your right to keep your weapons than president Obamas has…. Sarah and Glenn Beck make their living keeping the rightys that worship them afraid….remember when the rightys put out the rumor that president Obama was going to limit ammo?… The rightys ran out in a panic to buy ammo….samething with Guns… And I own guns…you went out and bought guns because the gun sellers wanted to make more money off your fear…. This president is not going to take your guns or mine… Relax…

  • Dr. J.

Please cite your evidence for such a statement about what “the president” will do. It sounds as though you believe you have ‘inside information’ about his intentions and those of the government. Knowledge of the future is quite the gift. Does the president confide in you? You also seem to be confused about cause and effect.

Read this eloquent and profound letter and pay close attention to the last paragraph of the letter.

    The Gun is Civilization
by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat–it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

By Maj. L. Caudill USM C (Ret)

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced.

KRISTOPHER BAUMANN, Chairman of the D.C. Fraternal Order of Police – in the Washington Post, Sunday, April 18, 2010; A15:
“For more than three decades, the District [of Columbia’s] government has relied on the city’s gun ban as an excuse to avoid developing true crime-fighting strategies. While the gun ban was in place, there were more than 30,000 registered firearms in the city. Neither the police department nor the U.S. Attorney’s office has any record of a registered gun having been used in the commission of a crime. The problem is not individuals who legally own guns; the problem is criminals….”

This topic dates back to May 14 of ’10. Is there a good reason to post it again? I can’t think of a good reason. It makes me curious, but not THAT curious.
By the way, ‘American Liberal,’ if you’re still on this planet, from me to you, chum, please go and thoroughly #^*+ yourself. And take your W H ‘gods’ with you. Did you get that brain transplant?

Americam Liberal, I don’t share your confidence in the so-called leaders in Washington. NRA Life Endowment. Only free nations have guns.If you want to keep the 2nd amendment, you gotta fight for it every day. Back to the re-loading bench.
