North Korea Vows Stronger, More Nuclear Military

Despite condemnations and expanded sanctions from the U.N. Security Council following a December rocket launch, North Korea has vowed to expand its nuclear and military capabilities.

The Security Council expanded existing sanctions against North Korea this week, unanimously passing a resolution proposed by the United States and even backed by North Korean ally China. The resolution tightens sanctions on North Korea’s space agency, a bank and a number of trading companies and individuals in the country.

“This resolution demonstrates to North Korea that there are unanimous and significant consequences for its flagrant violation” of previous resolutions, said U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice.

The resolution promises that the U.N. will take significant action against the nation if a third nuclear test is carried out.

The Hermit Kingdom responded swiftly to the new U.N. resolution, vowing that it would not back down from its nuclear ambitions.

“We will take measures to boost and strengthen our defensive military power including nuclear deterrence,” its Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency KCNA.

“There can be talks for peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the region in the future, but no talks for the denuclearisation of the peninsula,” the statement went on.

U.S. officials fear that, given the opportunity to test nuclear devices, North Korea will effectively develop a long-range nuclear missile that could potentially strike the West Coast of the United States.

Sounds like north korea has upgraded their stockpile to include “scud II’s”. I wonder, will the un get them to contribute to the “climate change” fund?

  • Steve E

North Korea knows it can do what it wants and nobody is really going to do anything. Why shouldn’t they think that?

  • Ranchman

And this administration is powerless to stop them. We concentrate on homosexuals “marrying” each other, women in combat which further weakens our military, wind power which cannot power our economy, and more efforts to bring us down while ignoring potentially devastating actions against us by our enemies. Obama’s inaugural speech equated homo “marriage” with the end of slavery, for cryin’ out loud! How much lower can America fall before the rest of her people wake up and come together to save her?

Remember 1776 & Keep Your Powder Dry!

      “…come together to save her”
The opportunity to do that, in any peaceful manner, within the life times of any of us, or in fact the lifetimes of our children or grandchildren, passed on November 6, 2012! Petulant Idealists and Religious Bigots, reinforced by an army of the Apathetic and Lazy Americans insured the victory of Obama!
I fail to see any mechanism available that could possibly retard or restrict the unsustainable Fiscal Policy’s of Obama and the Progressives! That being the case, is it reasonable to assume that the UN, OPEC,the IMF and the G-20 will just sit back and do nothing?
It seems more likely to me that as soon as the other World Leaders can structure their respective Economies to withstand it they will, necessarily, implement their, often threatened SDR’s, or whatever name they finally decide on!

Could this be another Pearl Harbor, lumining in the future??

In the past, when North Korea rattled its nuclear sabre, other countries would bribe them with aide to stop.
The North must need more aide money again.
I wonder what the UN means by “significant action”? Threaten them with another resolution? Not a threat.

    • eddie47d

That may be true but what do you suggest to be done with that “significant action” in taking away their weapons? Should they Stand Their Ground or compromise?

      • JimH

Hi eddie, The UN can’t do anything. They don’t have a military. They can try to get members nations to stand against North Korea, but that is all.
The member nations can try to deter the North Koreans with a warning that we will retaliate with a superior force if they try anything, but they must be willing to back that up.
It would be up to the North Koreans if they heed the warning or not.
I just pray cooler heads prevail.

You hit the nail on the head, JimH
This is about the money. Junior learned from his dad that all you have to do is rattle some sabers and the west gives you money.

Clinton did it, Bush did it, now Obama will do it too. This is called “Wheel of Fortune, North Korean style”

  • 45caliber

I saw this morning that NK has promised to proceed with their third test – and they are threatening to conduct it on American soil.

    • JimH

DC during the State of the Union Address, would be a great test site.
Then we could make it so South Korea won’t need light bulbs. The glow from the north should shed enough light.

  • TML

I am wondering what gives the U.N. the power and authority to order a country that is not part of the NPT to stop nuclear advancements of any kind, and then sanction them for not obeying. Pursuing the development of nuclear weapons is exactly why the country withdrew from the treaty. I don’t see the U.N. bullying Pakistan or India for doing the same kind of tests.

  • ibcamn

just remember that N. Korea has other communist countries behind it!they’re getting military grade equipment in every day to stockpile for war!some things are just a simple distraction to keep our noses in other places while something else is going on!they will do what they want and we can’t say sheet about it!he’s a power hungry mad man like Obama!…and the UN is just as crooked as a NHPD or NYPD or BPD or CHP you get the picture!
