North Korea Blames U.S. Military Build-up For Regional Tensions

PYONGYANG, North Korea (UPI) — North Korea warned of war with the United States Tuesday, accusing Washington of threatening the communist country by building up U.S. forces in the region.
In a commentary in a publication of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, Pyongyang termed as ridiculous Washington’s claim the build-up was necessary because of threats by North Korea, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported.
Yonhap reported North Korea said it did not want political tensions with other countries because it was committed to building the country’s economy and improving the lives of its citizens.
The United States was raising tensions, the North claimed, by trying to forge alliances with South Korea and Japan.
While North Korea is prepared to talk with the United States, Pyongyang said it is also ready for war.
“The country is keeping close tabs on military actions taken by Washington and is ready to respond to any unexpected developments,” the article said.
Joint military exercises planned by South Korea and the United States in 2014 can only be viewed as serious provocations, the North’s Korean Central News Agency said.
