New York Senate Rejects Same-sex Marriage Bill By Wide Margin

December 9, 2009 by

New York Senate rejects same-sex marriage bill by wide margin After months of delays, the New York State Senate finally voted on a piece of legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage. Last Wednesday, lawmakers overwhelmingly rejected the bill by a margin of 32 votes against and 24 in favor.

The Democrats, who hold a one-seat majority in the Senate, needed GOP support to pass the bill, but not a single Republican state senator voted for the measure, the New York Times reports.

"This is an enormous victory," said Maggie Gallagher, the leader of the National Organization for Marriage, which mobilizes the fight against same-sex marriage. "What you saw was the will of the people. … The culture really hasn’t shifted on gay marriage," she added, as quoted by Reuters.

After the vote, supporters of the proposed bill were somber, yet remained optimistic.

"We will not accept defeat and we will not stop fighting until all New Yorkers are treated equally," declared council speaker Christine Quinn, who is gay.

Before the debate, Democratic Senator Ruben Diaz stated that in all 31 states where same-sex marriage was put to a vote, it was rejected by the people. He proposed that the Senate should let New Yorkers decide the fate of gay marriage rather than leaving it in the hands of lawmakers, according to LifeSiteNews.com.

Meanwhile, Richard Socarides, who was former President Bill Clinton’s senior adviser on gay rights issues, called New York the "biggest prize" in the debate over the legalization of gay marriage. He referred to the state as a "bellwether" for the entire country on account of its importance as a financial, cultural and artistic center of the nation, the Associated Press reports.

I was so happy to hear of this! Homosexuality is an abomination of GOD and shouldn’t be recognized.

Isn’t it funny how people with that sickness (sin) feel they need to let every one know what they do in the bedroom. they need to stay in the closet and keep it to there selfs. this sexual pervertion only will get worst like a drug, the next thing will be animals.
And whats the deal with that fag act, do they go to a special school for that.

This is an issue that sits like a bomb in the foundations of Obamanism. Consistantly, pro-homosexual measures are being voted down in both red and blue states… and by Republicans and Democrats alike. Indeed- morality aside- what is the logic of having 1-2% of the population legally forcing their deviant lifestyle on us and our children? If the GOP leadership has any political sense- or sense of moral obligation to the country- they should be pressing this point as fervently as that of the liberal attack on the Constitution itself. The bomb still sits there. It’s past time to light the fuse.

Sexual sin is sexual sin whether you are Tiger Woods
or Elton John, Paris Hilton or Perez Hilton. Thank GOD
we are beginning to return to our senses by opposing
so-called “gay” marriage. Now we NEED to FIX HETEROSEXUAL
marriage by getting rid of no fault, quicky divorces and
equal rights/benefits for non-commital straight couples
who want to “shack up” without the benefit of LEGAL
marriage. In other words, repeal “common law” marriages.
People can call themselves a “family” all they want. Just
don’t let them do it with legal, moral or religious recognition.

Dale, how do you feel about our Senators like Ensign and Viter remaining in office after having affairs? Do you feel that after lying to their wives that they have the integrity to represent us?

  • Don

Any politician who have affairs should resign and if they don’t the fellow politicians should expell them from office, and I don’t care what the political party is, being imoral and unethical does not have party affiliations. What does this kind of ethics and morals tell our young people what is acceptable. To me if a politician will engage in this type of activity, what favors will they give for money, which is just as unethical as affairs.

The Liberals have made a political issue of this They have pandered to the gays just as they have pandered to the unions. 50 years thr typical Democrat was blue collar, redneck, high school educated. They hated homosexuals. The republicans were typically college educated, white collar upper class. They were the gays at the time. It was all closeted at that time. Then the Liberals found out there were a lot of gay votes if they would only pander to them. Well it worked, hense thousands of votes. The republicans blew it, no pun intended.
