NCO Who Doubts Obama Birth Gets Discharge

OMAHA, Aug. 19 (UPI) — The U.S. Air Force is discharging a sergeant who refused to report for duty, citing doubts about President Barack Obama’s citizenship, officials say.

Staff Sgt. Daryn Moran’s commander authorized the discharge Aug. 4 when Moran said he refused to show for duty beginning Aug. 11 in Germany, Politico reported. Moran joined the Air Force shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

He was put on leave from his post as an ophthalmology technician in Germany this year after coworkers complained about comments he made about the repeal of a ban on military service by gays and lesbians, and his belief that Obama was connected to Muslims.

Moran, a native of Omaha, has posted his doubts on Obama’s nation of birth on Web sites for groups that believe Obama was not born in the United States.

While on leave, he said he did not consider his orders valid, as he sees Obama’s presidency as invalid — and called for the arrest of the president.

“I doubt America’s future if we choose to abandon the Constitution at the moment of this battle with B. Obama’s desire for absolute authority and unwillingness to cooperate,” Moran said Wednesday in an email.

Moran’s father said he is proud of his son for taking a stand.

“Even if you don’t agree with him, you have to give him some credit. I believe he’s doing what he thinks is right,” Howard Moran said.

Daryn Moran said he is receiving an honorable discharge but Air Force officials confirm only that he is being discharged.
