N.H. Considers Proof Of Citizenship Requirements For Presidential Candidates

March 14, 2011 by

N.H. considers proof of citizenship requirements for Presidential candidatesLawmakers in New Hampshire have introduced an amendment that would require Presidential candidates to present birth certificates when filing their candidacy application for the State-run primary election.

The New Hampshire primary is significant because it is traditionally the first of the Presidential election season. The bill, if approved, would not take effect until January 2013. It was originally scheduled to become law 60 days after passage, but legislators pushed back the start date to diffuse any perception that the amendment was aimed at President Barack Obama, whose citizenship has been questioned by some conservative activists.

"We recognize the potential problems," State Representative David Bates (R-Rockingham) told the New Hampshire Union Leader. "It created the appearance that it was all centered on putting barriers in the way of President Obama."

According to CNN, lawmakers in at least 10 States have introduced bills that would require Presidential candidates to prove that they were born in the United States. The controversy was ignited when many grass-roots conservatives began questioning Obama's eligibility for the nation's highest office. Obama's supporters say newspaper clippings from the time and a short form birth certificate that has been released prove he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Among the claims made by supporters of the "birther" movement are that the commander-in-chief was born in Kenya, he had dual American-British citizenship at birth because of his father's Kenyan heritage and the long form of his birth certificate — the original document of record — has not been proven to exist.

One thing that always comes to my mind when I hear of matters of citizenship of the President is where the issue started or with what person or group. At some point did someone researching the candidates for president in 2008 find they could not obtain or find uncontestable proof of President Obamas birth in the United States even after exhaustive research. What would prompt one to cnduct such research in the first place. At what point and for what reason did some one feel the need to question the birth place of President Obama at all. To the best of my knowledge no serious or publicized controversy has ever sparked over the citizenship of any other other president in any other election in our countries history.

    • Dan

President Arthur residency was questioned. It was rumored that he was born in Canada. Also several Presidential candidates citizenship was questioned including John Mccain and Barry Goldwater. I think there was one other President whose residency was also questioned but can’t recall who it was.

      • http://gunner689 gunner689

Possibly Andrew Jackson. There was considerable thought that he may have been born onboard a ship bringing his parents to America.

    • 702bdr

It’s about time someone stood up for enforcing the Constitutional requirements for the Presidency. Thank you New Hampshire.

      • Elena T

The problem with Obama is that he is not a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN as required by Article 2 Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution to be a president! That is the Supreme Law of the Land and will remain so until the legislature makes an amendment to the Constitution. But that is where the other problem lays!

The United States of America at this time has 435 members of congress who swear oath the serve and protect the U.S. Constitution that are acting as if they are Constitutionally Illiterate!

The United States of America today has 100 members of the senate who swear oath to serve and protect the U.S. Constitution which are also acting as if they are Constitutionally Illiterate!

America has an Illegal President who claims to be some sort of Harvard Professor of the U.S. Constitution who is acting like he is Constitutionally Illiterate!
No Hawaii birth record exists for Barack Obama. A Hawaii birth record for Maya Soetoro, his half sister born in Indonesia, does exist. Obama will be unseated, and he will go down as the biggest fraud in the history of the world. He must be unseated and tried for high crimes and treason against the U.S.

        • pk

          Wow, you sure nailed it!

        • Ben

          Elena T.,
I agree with you. I like to add that those in Congress should be held responsible for aid and abetting Obama, by turning the other cheek. Letting it happen, and not taking much of an action.

NH has definately taken a step in the right direction!!! now let’s see this in ALL states!!

Great post! I hope they start this requirement in Indiana also. I hope to keep reading your posts. Keep up the good fight, fellow patriots! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • JUKEBOX

I still want to see the paperwork for when Barry Soetoro’s mother brought him from Indonesia to Hawaii, that would tell “THE REST OF THE STORY”. I believe that the FBI & the Secret Service were very remiss in vetting this fraud.

        • flyguy

As far as N.H., their eligibility requirement is a joke. Putting it off until after the 2012 election is a pure cop out. If the man is a citizen and meets the constitutional requirements, let him prove it NOW, not after he’s had another 4 year term to totally take away our freedoms, wreck the country and established the New World Order. (And, oh yes, don’t kid yourself, he will be reelected).

Better be prepared for a Civil War. I believe it could happen before the citizens of the U.S.A. will accept continuous dictatorial ruling by the NWO..

    • Allan Halbert

What would prompt Americans to investigate the citizenship of the President? Simple. Millions of people feel his actions threaten the American way of life. They do not feel the threat from potential candidates such as Herman Cain or Col. Allen West. It is not about race, it is about actions. With P.J. Crowley gone, we now have one less America hater on the payroll.

      • Jeremy Leochner

But Allan if his actions threaten the American way of life why is his citizenship the neccessary argument to use. Why should he have to be declared an unlawful or fraudulant president. If you disagree, however strongly, with someone that dose not make them illegitimate. Are you saying the questioning of his citizenship happened because of mistakes he made. How do mistakes and his citizenship have anything to do with each other. Finally for the sake of argument evidence in the form of Newspaper articles saying he was born in Hawaii and a short form birth certificate have been presented as the article mentions. Are people declaring these frauds, or forgeries. With all due respect it seems like evidence of President Obamas birth was presented after demands for it. My simple wish is to understand how anger over his policies could be grounds for questioning his citizenship, especially after he has won the election. Afterall he stated his beliefs long before he became president- why didnt the clamor start than. And again why should disagreements over policy prompt one to question his legitimacy if one could simply make the convincing argument that his policies are going to fail. If hes a bad president than prove hes a bad president. You dont have to prove him illegitimate to do that.

        • JUKEBOX

He may be illegitimate in more than where he was born. Many people were under the false impression that people were too smart to fall for a pretty talking done nothing.

        • Newsy

The clamor did start before he was elected but the Democratic party squashed it and the Republican party squealed a little bit but then gave up, as usual.

In my humble opinion, if he were born in America he wouldn’t have a problem producing the evidence. He hasn’t produced the evidence so everyong squabbles, frets, moans, and groans but no one does anything about it.

What happened to out safeguards in the Senate and House for this type of thing did they just disappear, or are they all just a bunch of bumbleheads?

          • Jeremy Leochner

Well maybe then the issue Newsy is what evidence is there that he was not born in the United States. Though evidence supporting his birth in the U.S. seems limited I have yet to see or hear anyone produce a Kenyan Birth Certificate or some paper or photo or recording or any sort of evidence of his being born abroad. Though perhaps evidence supporting him seems limited the evidence against him seems nonexsistant. Hard to follow an argument that I have not heard any real evidence in support of.

        • Allan Halbert

Yes, I am saying that the once millions of Americans saw just antithetical Obama was to their values, they perceived him as a threat. Notice that people are also hoping for impeachment, but any legal method is on the table. You may not perceive his politices to be a threat to your existence, and that of your country as you knew it, but others do, and their response is no mystery. I’m sure Obama doesn’t think of his policies as mistakes. I don’t either. To me, a mistake is something you think you should have done differently, and I see no evidence Obama questions himself. Doesn’t matter what you call his policies if they are considered threats. What keeps him from providing the birth certificate instead of the certificate of live birth? Is it pride or something else? I think if he felt it was to his political advantage, he would provide it. Recently when I had to reinstate my expired car registration in Oregon, my certificate of live birth was questioned, and I had to find my actual birth certificate. Yes, Obama won the election, and yes he did reveal a lot of his thinking prior to that. People wanted a change to the point that they overlooked the lack of experience and did not question the candidate as they should have. That is what the press had done in the past, and what the people must do for themselves now. Being hired for a job doesn’t mean you can be any kind of leader you please. The burden is on a leader to prove he is a good leader, not the other way around.

    • Mike

In N.Y.State, you need to show at least 5 forms of proof (ex. elec bill, phone bill, birth cert, etc) just to get a drivers license.

    • Bill

No other president in history has tried to conceal his records by spending millions to keep them sealed either.

  • s c

There’s a first time for everything. An old expression says that there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. New Hampshire’s move may be one such idea.
Besides, it couldn’t hurt anything – other than bruised egos and horse’s assets who think Americans work for them. Up the rebels!

    • Bus

Why not make it applicable for the 2012 election. Since the press has abdicated its responsibility to vet the candidates then its up to the state governments.

I agree why 2012? and why are they afraid of offended obama if he’s legal he’s legal if he’s not he’s not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • bohemian

I agree also! Why not 2012? What are the ‘potential problems’ state rep Bates ‘recognizes’? Maybe it ‘created the appearance’ of putting barriers in the way of Ø because that’s exactly what it is meant to do. What is wrong with that? And this guy is a Republican? Why do all these R’s tip-toe around this issue and this illegitimate president? That’s how we got where we are today. Nobody had any qualms about questioning anything in GWB’s background – heck, they even fabricated stories when they found nothing. Even Slick Willie had to answer questions about things like dodging the draft. With Republicans like this guy Bates, who needs enemies? Any elected official who does not demand answers re: eligibility is guilty of violating their oath to uphold the Constitution.
Also – how do the media (print and TV, including FOX) expect to be taken seriously from now on by not giving this Page 1 coverage until it is resolved? Where is all their in-depth analysis and hard questions? When Ø is exposed as illegitimate, what excuses will they give? Watergate was like taking an apple from a fruit cart compared to everything involving Ø, from eligibility questions to his many unconstitutional/illegal actions (e.g. GM takeover, having corporate execs fired, sticking his nose in the affairs of States, etc.). Even previously serious reporting (FOX) is silent, preferring now to tell us about Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. They have all rendered themselves irrelevant.

      • Jana

They should have it take effect 60 days after the bill passed, but no, they don’t want to offend Obama.
Today Obama announced that he wanted the school children to know he was concentrating on education now. Hmmm, like he has been concentrating on jobs? Like he has been concentrating on the economy?
His concentration doesn’t last longer than 5 minutes. He stated it, so now we can forget it and he can go play.

Very good question Jim, very good question indeed ?

      • WTH

Why not require a psychological examination as well? That way we will know we are not getting a psychopath in office. Of course the examination will have to be given by a Washington outsider to ensure credibility. And also require, during the “swearing in,” process the President to say: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All.” That way, he will know (and we will know) who he works for. It would be nice if, at every campaign stop, the Presidential candidates would voluntarily start out by saying the Pledge of Allegiance as well because it is through repetition that we remember.

        • JUKEBOX

Maybe we could get Charlie Sheen to perform the psychological exam.

      Damned straight Jim!

How can USA President Obama be impeached when he was not eligible to run in the first place?

    • Ben

      Fly By Night,
Since Obama is recognized as a President of USA, impeachment is possible.
What’s done is done regarding eligible to run for President.

    • Vigilant

My best guess would be that, if he fraudulently posed as a natural born citizen and was not, he thereby violated the Constitution the moment he took office. To take on the job illegally would, in my mind, be nothing short of a “high crime.”

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

My kids just doing sports had to produce a birth certificate! I don’t think it is asking to much for the person who has the power that is given to the president to be required to do the same!

  • jopa

Robin from Indonesia: Even being a foreigner going school in the USA you shouldn’t have to show a birth certificate to play sports. How many foreigners in major league baseball? Our kids never had to meet that requirement.

    • Dan

Foreign ball players in any sport must have at a minimum a work permit and a visa and are here legally. An yes they do have to show their papers and I’m sure each pro team has copies. Illegal immigrants of course don’t have any documentation and maybe the school system is not going to pay for them to participate in sports. It’s bad enough they are forced to educate them.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      ever heard of Indiana???
Every kid that plays sports has to verify AGE to play a sport! Do you remember a few years ago when there was a big stink raised about a kids elegibility to play little league as it was determined they lied about his age???

    • http://naver samurai

Another moron has come to play. When I was enlisting in the army, I needed a birth certificate. When I enrolled at Jimtown Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, you needed a copy of your birth certificate on your record to enroll, play sports, etc. When I was petitioning my wife for marriage through the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, she needed to show a birth certificate. If we had to produce a birth certificate for all these things, then why can’t Obama bin Laden do the same thing? FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

It is the duty of the Attorney General of the US and the AG of each State to ivestigate this issue and act on it. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit that BO was foreign born and the Dem. There is so much evidence that Obummer is not American besides a lack of a valid birth certificate. One fact is certain, he is not American in action. To wait until 2013, after an enemy of the people has damaged our nation four more years, is, itself, wrong. The opposition knows the liklihood that he cannot produce a standard birth certificate is about 99%.

Plus if she is divorced, whe must roduce the divorce decress, each time she has been married, wheather she was 18-80. When I got my CDL therte was several older woman who had lost husmands in wars and old age, and each time they must produce the death certificates and marriage name changes. A copy of Obummer’s long official form birth certificate can be viewed and downloaded from (wasobammaborninkenya DOT com). Read how it was obtained, etc. This imposter, Mr. Obummer, must be removed from the Oval Office, and brought to justice for what he as done. I also pray for his salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Regardless of his actions, he is still a lost soul in desperate need of Jesus. May God have mercy on him, and us all!

Regarding those showing an interest in running for President of the USA in 2012, Ron Paul looks best to me. He iis for cutting the size of government, and leading us back to a US Constitutional government.

Just an idea for a promising presidential candidate to get an advantage is by pushing the issue of legitimacy of his citizen ship, the sooner the more votes his going to get.

    Interesting article….

regarding the birthc certificate..Yes it should have never gotten to this point, our leaders in congress have failed us…no surprise there. The only documents that have been proven to be found of Obamas so far are newspaper clippings of his birth in the vault in Hawaii and that proves nothing. My daughters birth was announced in Brooklyn, NY and here in Tenn. at the exact time of birth due to the fact that her family in NY wanted to have her announcement there as well. And guess what, it states that she was born in NY……she was not, she was born here in Tenn. So, until the original LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE w/RAISED STAMP and doctors signature is posted, people can not justify by saying they saw proof. lol

I am delighted to see New Hampshire is going to have a common sense requirement to have a candidate appear on their state’s ballot. • The ‘American’

C’mon folks, this is a no brainer. Proof of who and what you are via a birth certificate must be provided for a multitude of reasons, why not have it made mandatory as unquestionable proof of being eligible to run or be POTUS? From what I have been able to read, the amount of money supposedly spent by him on keeping his current identity and life a total secret, and his refusal to produce anything concrete to clear up the matter, brings up some serious doubts about his eligibility to hold the office of POTUS. Even his relatives, and a high Kenyan official say he was born in Kenya. The laws in Indonesia to attend school, his blood fathers citizenship, as well as many other facts brought to light surely raise some red flags. My belief is, ‘where there is smoke, there is fire’. To me, the logical thing that should take place ‘ASAP’ is to suspend him from office until he proves he is elegible to be, or not be POTUS. We have a VP that could step in until the matter is settled.
The law pertaining to ‘eleigibility’ exists within the Constitution, and should ALREADY have been in place, and enforced from the beginning of the election process. It is the law that outlined and demanded the criteria for anyone’s elegibility to be running for, or holding the office of POTUS. I applaude N.H. for trying to get such an extended, perfectly clear, law passed about proving ‘eligibility’. The law to prove elegibility most certainly, unquestionably, without a doubt, should be in place by, and for, the 2012 elections, — NOT BY 2013!!. ‘The horse has already gone from the barn by then’. It makes no sense to me to have someone in any political office who refuses to provide any documents demanded by the people, especially for an office of such high importance. It makes NO difference what your political party preference is. Who knows, possibly the very laws that are being signed by him that effect you and me and our great nation, might just might be signed by someone who is not only ineligible to hold the office, but in fact is a total fraud. That makes the laws he signs irrelevent, and not worth the paper they are written on.
If he does not meet or comply with the Constitutional reqirements, and in addition ‘sidesteps’ Congress to get what he wants, that is not only unethical, but unlawful. Is HE above the law of the land, or truthful with the people he was elected to ‘serve’? He is not a ‘King’, or ‘wannabe dictator’ — yet. If the person holding the highest office in the land refuses too, and does not comply with the laws of the land, isn’t it hypocritical to enforce ANY law in the land? Think about it.

    • usmadgirl

      The ‘American’,

You are so right, especially about “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”! I can’t believe we didn’t investigate a presidential candidate BEFORE he took office. As I’ve said before, people applying at Walmart or McDonalds would’ve been investigated more than O’Dumbo was. They gave Bush, McCain & Sarah the third degree. Did they think it would be “racist” if they investigated the first half white, half black candidate? Political correctness is destroying us.

If someone has to spend millions to “hide their past”, you can bet they have millions of dollars worth of shady things to cover up. And how could he take an oath to “protect & defend” a constitution that he thinks is “flawed” & “doesn’t go far enough”…blah, blah, blah? That in itself should have eliminated him as a CANDIDATE, let alone hold the office of the most powerful person in the world. The stupidity in this country amazes me!

      • Vigilant

And lest we forget, Obama is the Commander in Chief over military personnel and other federal workers that had to have FBI background checks to qualify for security clearances.

Given Obama’s shady past associations (primarily Bill Ayers), he would not even pass said background check.

        • http://gunner689 gunner689

Clinton couldn’t pass a security clearance either because of his traitorous past.

  • 45caliber

I’d like to see a requirement for proof of meeting all requirements for ANY political office in EVERY state. And there should be no exceptions for any reason as was done in the case of Chicago’s new mayor.

  • The ‘American’

Did you ever consider the possible fact that ONE of the reasons our current supposed POTUS has not been impeached is the fact that no one wanted to chance ‘offending’ a certain ethnic group?? Remember WATTS ???!! So, while our nation is being destroyed by an ‘suspected outsider’, it suffers in silence while no attempt is made to correct the so very obvious problem — what a shame.
Next, lets get down to mainly how people like him or any politician gets elected. As one really looks within the majority of his ranks of liberal supporters, one can’t help thinking that there is something terribly wrong with the way our officials are elected. Going beyond any other issues, the big problem is ‘WHO or WHAT’ is voting and WHY.
We have a welfare and entitlement system in our county that can’t help but elect progressive/liberal politions that have to place excessive burdens on the American takepayer. It supports the welfare recipients way of life, and buys political votes in the process. Thus, it eventually come down to ‘buying’ the control of the masses. Nice huh?? Pure and simple, without a doubt, our welfare system needs to be adjusted or overhauled, and given ONLY to the people who are really qualified to recieve it. The totally disableled, and the Handicapped-unable to work, should be the only qualified to receive it, not career generations of welfare recipients able to work at ANY job. They shouldn’t receive it. In my own personal opinion, the way our system functions currently, it should be be adjusted to where if anyone besides the recipients mentioned above are on a welfare program, and living off of the American taxpayer, during that time that they are on such a program, their voting rights should be suspended until such time they are off of any government type support program. NOTE;– That does NOT include SSI, as the tax paying worker has bought and paid into that system with his own dollars from years of hard work. They are owed every penny they receive. It was not, and is not free to the retirees, and no one else should receive it.
That may seem a little ‘harsh’, but it is only common sense. Look at it logically. If someone is ‘kickin’ back’ and perpetually living off of YOUR hard work and Tax dollars for FREE, why in the world would they want it to change it for any reason. Most of those kind of people make sure they vote in every election. The reasons are obvious. The situation with their vote, and your tax dollars is directly proportionate, and is a living catch 22. The ‘Welfare’ situation in our nation has become the malignant sickness in our society that will continue to forever fester in our nation and never heal until the welfare program is redesigned. Until then, it will only get worse, and so will the ‘socialist’ effects be on your wallet, politics and our economy. It’s very function is nothing but ‘creeping’ progressive/socialism at it’s finest.

    • Jay

why all the discussion about barrys birth certificate, shouldn’t he in a civil manner put a stop to all the rumor and present actual evidence.
maybe he is saving this little matter until just before election time and dump it on the media in order to make fools out of people who claim otherwise.
any way you look at it, he’s an arrogant ass.

chuckb, of course! The fact that he refuses produce it, should be considered the same, as one who refuses a breathalyzer, guilty!

    Article II
    Section 1.

The Congress may determine the time of choosing the electors, and the day on which they shall give their votes; which day shall be the same throughout the United States.

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.

tomcat: Now your going to start asking George Washington for a birth certificate. You are goofier than Orly Tates.

Several years ago a guy from my home town disappeared. His family was searching for the souvenir birth certificate the hospital gave with his newborn foot prints. The police said that foot prints, like finger prints, do not change & the souvenir birth cert could help in identification of a body.

If the birth certificate shown on is authentic then a comparison on Obama’s footprint NOW to the one on the birth cert should be done.

Another question that should be asked is on what country’s Passport did Obama make his trip to Pakistan when he was college age.

Maybe BO will dissapear and nobody will be able to find him.

  • Palin12

Newly-elected Gov. Neil Abercromie (D-HI) stated during the campaign that if he were elected, he would show Obummer’s longform birth certificate to the world, in order to dispel once and for all any birther rumors. Funny thing, now he can’t find it.

It is reprehensible that Ø has not shown his birth certificate or many other seemingly routine documents (school records, medical records, passports, etc.) that every other candidate has had to produce.
HOWEVER – no matter where he was born – HE IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
If you notice, everyone in the media, left and right, including O’Reilly, Beck, etc., always gloss-over this, saying they believe he is a ‘citizen’.
The whole natural-born citizen topic is never mentioned.
Natural-born = born on US soil, WITH 2 US CITIZEN PARENTS :
    * nobody disputes the fact that his father was either a British or Kenyan national – NEVER a US citizen
    * in order for a mother to convey citizenship, she has to have lived in the US for 10 years, 5 years of which have to have been after the age of 14. She was only 18 when Ø was born, if the birth date he gave is actually true.
END OF DISCUSSION OF ELIGIBILITY, if his parents are who he says they are. HE IS NOT ELIGIBLE.
HOWEVER – IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE that neither of the 2 ( BØ Sr., or Anne / Anna / Stanley Ann Dunham ) are his parents.
If they are not, then the natural-born issue would have to be looked at with the real parents’ citizenship status.
Of course, that would prove Ø to be the liar that he is, having passed off those 2 as his parents to the American people.
    So what’s worse -
    * having people question where you were born, or
    * prove where you were born, and at the same time admit to massive lies?
Remember, in his book “Dreams From My Father”, in the introduction, Ø acknowledged his use of pseudonyms, composite characters, approximated dialogue and events out of chronological order.
Composite characters? Pseudonyms? So, really – his book is useless – tells us nothing – yet that’s what has been used to provide his whole background.
And our ‘vigilant citizenry’ (as per Judge James Robertson), media included, took it as gospel, and has so far been upheld in the courts.
The USA is in deep trouble, folks.

We,as citizens must produce a Birth Certificate when applying for a Passport. All candidates running for any Government office, should be required to do the same. The bill N.H. is introducing, will only go into affect in 2013, which will not apply to our next presidential election in 2012!! Not soon enough. It should be mandatory that
All candidates running for office in 2012, produce a valid birth certificate!!
